8 : May is gone.

Drew's POV

I barely even got a wink of sleep last night. My thoughts were clouded with worrying images of May in her unconscious state. I don't understand why. I barely even knew her. But something deep within me said I did. Possibly even knew her more than I do now.

It was school today but I felt like skipping out. I pretended to be sick so that the boys let me stay inside our dorm. But in reality, I just wanted to sleep. I needed to sleep. I was currently laying on my bed, staring at the ceiling with a blank look on my face. I couldn't sleep at all.

Then all of a sudden, something within me snapped. A blurry vision that was filled with colour and shapes that looked familiar. Before I knew it, I was no longer in the comfort of my room. Then I realised. It was a beach I was seeing instead.

I could feel the familiarity of sand underneath my feet. But I do not recall the last time I went to the beach. I saw figures dancing around me, giggles sounding from each direction. I blinked once. Then twice. My vision was slowly fuzzing out into a clear sight. It seemed so real. Not distant like any normal dream.

But what shocked me was who was standing right in front of me. It was May. She had a mischievous glint in her eyes as she threw a pink frisbee which hit Gary in the face. But I do not recall this ever happening. Yet it felt so vivid, so real. It felt like it has happened before in my life. But this is a memory that I do not remember. The image stayed engraved deep into my mind for a long time as I lay in bed thinking long and hard.

Before I knew it, there was a knocking on the door to our dorm room. I jolted out of bed and dragged my feet towards the door, my body feeling heavy with exhaustion. The knocking got faster and louder as though there was more than one person knocking on the door. Then the knocking became more rapid and thunderous. I twitched an eyebrow in irritation and yelled at the door.

"Do you not have a key or something?"

"Come out Drew! It's important." I heard Gary's voice respond to me and I heard the panic in his tone.

I scratched my head with annoyance and opened the door only slightly so that my eye was peering outside to see six pairs of eyes staring at me.

"What do you guys want." I croaked and stared at them drowsily.

"Just come!" Ash exclaimed and flung the door open fully before rummaging through my wardrobe and throwing me my clothing.

"What is happening?" I questioned with crossed arms as everyone stood outside the door with anxious looks on their faces.

"It's May. We got news from Steven that she's in critical condition and that we should visit her in the hospital. He somehow knows that we know her." Leaf informed me as she strolled into my room with a worried expression on her face.

Gary pat her back and dragged her back out the door as Ash slammed the door shut so I could get changed. Worry immediately flooded through me as I realised the situation. I immediately got changed while Ash tapped his foot nervously.

"We may not have known her for long, but if she's in critical condition, it's still bad." Ash said and I just nodded as I already knew the extent of how awful the situation was.

"Come on." I ushered Ash out the door with me following close behind.

I immediately shut the door and locked it in one swift motion before hurrying down the hallway. We all travelled close together as we walked quickly towards the exit of the school.

"Let's go!" I yelled and dashed out of the dormitory.

Everyone followed closely behind as we sprinted towards the hospital which was not that far from our school. We pushed passed people on the streets who stared at us weirdly as we dashed towards the hospital building. As soon as we arrived, I flung open the doors to the hospital causing a few nurses and doctors to stop what they were doing and turn to look our way. They then continued what they had been doing before while the rest of the group barged into the hospital behind me.

"Sir I need you to calm down." A nurse obstructed the path with her arms outstretched as she glared at me.

Everyone halted behind me and stared at the nurse but I could feel their urgency.

"We need to go see a friend who's in critical condition." I informed the nurse calmly who stared at me with a raised eyebrow before lowering her arms.

"What's her name?" She asked and I responded by telling her May's name and she nodded. "You seven must be the friends that I was informed about. It seems I should take you there then."

"Where's Amethyst?" I whispered to Gary who shrugged.

I frowned as I thought that my sister would have at least come here as well to visit May but instead she was not here at all. It was as though she didn't care about May at all. The nurse led us through the hallway of the hospital and took us to one of the rooms.

"She's currently unconscious right now but she is not open to visitors unfortunately." The nurse informed us and we nodded as she walked inside May's room and opened the curtains which revealed a window in the hallway where we could see May lying on her hospital bed peacefully.

Her wounds still looked fresh and she wasn't breathing much at all. Her eyes seemed to flicker for a moment before they shut once more. I felt a pang in my chest as I stared at her frail and beaten body lying helplessly on the bed. My throat felt dry as I gulped down a breath of air. I knew everyone else was as shocked as I was. She looked terrible.

"Would you kids like to stay overnight to see her status tomorrow or would you like to go home?" The nurse asked as politely and we all glanced at one another.

"We have school tomorrow so we should head back to the dorms." Misty told the nurse who nodded and went to close the curtains o May's room.

"I'm staying here." I told the rest of them who looked at me in surprise. "Someone's got to know what happens to her overnight. So I'll stay."

Everyone looked at each other before glancing back at me.

"You might just miss another day of school." Gary said but I just shook my head.

"I'll come back next week." I smiled at them and they just shook their heads in disapproval.

"Whatever you want man." Gary said.

I never went to school the week after that. I felt too much pain in me. Because the day after, May had died.

Um this is yet another short chapter.
Sorry guys for the extremely late update. I've been so busy writing my other book that I completely neglected this one and I promised not to discontinue it.

Let's see, so that's the end of this chapter. I'm sorry to anyone who has been waiting for the update of this book, and that this chapter is really bad though. Sorry again. I promise I'll try to update better.

There was initially supposed to be a second part to this chapter but it felt right to end it like that. It would have been longer as well but instead I'm going to leave that part for next chapter.

This was a terrible chapter I'm so sorry.

Anyways, bye.
