2 : Rustboro City

May's POV

Today was the day, and I was not looking forward to it. Rain was pouring outside and thunder clouds were forming. I sighed as I watched the water droplets fall onto the window and slide down straight after. What a great way to start the morning. I looked at my watch and groaned with realisation. I woke up too early.

I gazed out the window and watched as lightning cracked the sky open and thunder followed it. I squealed a bit when the thunder struck although it was quite mesmerising to watch. After a little bit, I drifted off into a deep sleep but not without troubled thoughts.

"May, you're going to be late." A voice snapped at me causing me to shoot up in panic and bang my head on someone else's.

"What is it?" I spoke frantically rubbing my head as my brother groaned in pain.

Max pointed at his watch, then continued to rub his head. I looked at my own watch and checked the time. My eyes widened and I shot straight out of bed and almost jumped into my brother who stepped aside, allowing me to grab my clothes. The storm had subsided and it was now sunny overhead. I rushed into the bathroom and began changing.

"Have fun being late on your first day." I heard Max call to me from outside the bathroom with a teasing tone.

"It's not my fault you didn't wake me up earlier!" I snapped back as I continued to rush fixing my hair in my wig.

"It's not my fault you didn't set your own alarm!" He retorted.

"Will you two be quiet? I'm trying to read the newspaper." Brock yelled from the dining room making the both of us shut our mouths.

"Next time, set an alarm." Max whispered through the door and I nodded before realising he couldn't see me.

"Alright." I agreed while putting on my fake green eye contacts and glasses. "How does it look?"

Max examined my face closely then grinned. "I think I did pretty well." He responded proudly.

"It's average." I shrugged while adjusting my glasses which felt unfamiliar resting on my nose and ears.

"Average my foot. I think it's a good disguise." He glared while I just walked passed him and into the dining room to where Brock is.

"Who are you?" He asked suddenly jumping out of his seat defensively. "Intruder!" He yelled afterwards.

"Woah woah woah! Wait up. It's just me, May." I calmed him down and he soon relaxed and laid back in his seat.

"You gave me a fright there May." He said while putting a hand over his heart.

I rubbed the back of my head and felt the unfamiliar locks of dark brown hair between my fingers. I frowned at how long it was and began to tie it up into a ponytail.

"It's time I go. I'll skip breakfast since I'm already late." I informed them as I finished tying my hair up.

"Don't crash the car, this is an expensive one." Brock warned teasingly.

"It was one time." I groaned while picking up the keys to my car and heading out of the house.

I didn't want to go to the Rustboro Highschool. After the tragic accident that happened two years ago, I didn't want to see my former friends. It hurt too much for me to see their faces again, knowing that there was no recognition. They have already forgotten me.

"Hey Maple!" My friend yelled from nearby my car. "Nice disguise by the way."

"Amethyst." I greeted her.

"You ready for school?" She asked me and I nodded in response. "I'll drive you there instead."

"What! But I can drive myself you know?" I refused while she rolled her purple eyes.

"No way. After what happened last time, I don't trust you driving the both of us." She shook her head as I protested.

"Who said you were coming anyway." I put my hands on my hips.

"I did." She smirked at me and now it was my turn to roll my eyes. "Get in the car."

I tossed her my keys and she put it in the engine.

"So, how's Drew?" I asked my friend who was also Drew's twin sister.

"He's doing fine. I'm sorry but he does not remember you at all after I showed him that group photo from the beach. He assumed I photoshopped some random girl into the photo." She informed me as she drove down the familiar rode of my neighbourhood.

I looked down at my feet in hurt and then sighed.

"When did you get to my place this morning?" I asked her trying to distract myself from the subject.

Amethyst actually lived pretty far from here. In fact, the Hayden's lived in the eco-friendly city of LaRousse. Amethyst told me that she had arrived in Petalburg yesterday morning to visit Drew who currently had his own dorm with the other boys in the highschool.

"This morning, I left the hotel quite early just to get here. Then Max told me you were still asleep so you made me wait longer." Amethyst explained and I apologised straight after.

"It's not problem. I was playing a game on my phone anyway." She grinned but still kept her eyes on the road ahead.

The rest of the ride to Rustboro was in a comfortable silence. That was broken when someone called my phone and my ringtone sounded throughout the whole car.

"Hello?" I asked the caller as I pressed the phone to my ear.

"May, the school has just now been informed of your arrival this morning. You've got your disguise and everything right?" The familiar voice of Steven Stone asked through the phone.

"Yep. That's all covered thanks to Max. What's the update on the enemy? Are they really targeting them?" I questioned the champion.

"We are not entirely sure whether they are targeting your former friends or if they are targeting the whole city itself. But Rustboro seems to be more of a target then anywhere else in Hoenn." Steven informed me.

"Alright. Is Gladion at the school yet?"

"He should be there by now. I'll check with him as soon as possible. I'll update you later." He said before ending the call.

"Steven?" Amethyst asked me as we were approaching the entrance of the city.

"Yeah." I nodded my head. "Remember Gladion?"

"How could I forget." Amethyst scowled at the road ahead. "I can't believe he beat me in a battle. No one beats my pokemon and gets away with it."

"He's one of the best agents the champions hired so there was no surprise there." I shrugged.

"You mean out of the both of you. The champions only hired you two." She corrected me.

"Whatever."

"I'll beat that french fry this time!" Amethyst growled and for a second she sped up the car.

"Calm down Amethyst! You're going to make us crash like that." I scolded her while she grinned at me sheepishly.

After a few more minutes, we finally arrived outside the highschool. I started becoming extremely nervous.

"You ready?" Amethyst asked me with a hand on my shoulder in reassurance.

"Yeah." I responded while taking a deep breath.

I walked out of the car park and to the entrance of the school. It was a pretty big school since there were also the dorm rooms and there were quite a lot of classrooms.

"Madeline!" A voice shouted my cover name.

I spun around to face my best friend Gladion. He was not required to wear any disguise since no one really knew who he was.

"Morning Gladion." I greeted him as we walked through the entrance of school together, leaving Amethyst behind to glare at the back of Gladion's head.

"See you Amethyst." Gladion called from behind his back while I heard my other friend huff in response.

I turned my head so she could see my face and I mouthed a small goodbye and she replied with a smirk. I rolled my eyes. Hayden's and their smirking. We walked to where the office was and requested our timetables and lockers. After a few short moments of waiting, the receptionist handed over our timetables and locker codes.

"Well, this is where we part ways, my friend." I said looking at Gladion with fake sadness. He rolled his eyes.

"Stop being so over dramatic. My locker is only two lockers away from yours." He told me.

"Whatever." I huffed as I approached my own locker.

Using the given code, I unlocked it and stuffed all the textbooks I had received from Steven inside. As soon as I shut my locker door, I spun around to walk to homeroom only to crash right into someone.

"I'm so sorry!" I apologised frantically while offering a hand out to the person who was now on the floor.

"It's alright. We all do this around school sometimes." They said reassuringly and gratefully took my hand.

I adjusted my fake glasses slightly as they had been moved from the collision. Then I looked to who I had crashed into. It took everything in me to not gasp and wrap the person in a bear hug. Leaf.

"You must be new!" She exclaimed as she looked at me. "My name is Leaf." She introduced herself although I already knew that.

"Hello Leaf. My name is Madeline. Madeline Cooper." I introduced myself not once mistaking my name.

"Nice to meet you. Can I check your timetable real quick?" She asked me and I reached out and handed her my timetable. "History, Geography, Maths.....Homeroom!"

"Hm?" I questioned.

"Those are the classes we share together. Here. I'll show you to our homeroom." She said while handing back my timetable.

Leaf still hadn't changed that much except for the fact that she had grown to look more mature. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if that happened to everyone else.

"Hey wait up!" A voice called me from behind. Then I realised. I had forgotten about Gladion altogether.

Gladion ran up to us and then looked at Leaf with a raised eyebrow.

"Who are you?" He asked Leaf curiously.

"I'm Leaf Green. I guess you're new as well?" She asked him and he nodded in response.

Leaf then smiled at the both of us before leading us to a classroom at the end of the school. I read the room number and repeated it over and over in my head so I could remember where to go every morning.

We entered the classroom and I almost died from a heart attack. My breathing quickened as I stared at the six pair of eyes looking in my direction, curiously.

"Hello there! You must be Madeline and Gladion." The teacher said bringing the attention of the whole class. "Leaf, please take a seat now." She instructed my former best friend.

"Hello Miss." I greeted with a dip of my head towards the teacher who smiled sweetly at me.

"You can just call me Solidad." She said with a warm smile. "You both can take your seat next to those seven girls and boys over there."

She pointed to where I didn't want to go to. All seven of them stared at myself and Gladion as we made our way over to them. As soon as I found a seat near them, I looked down at the table and Gladion sat with the others. I heard them whispering some things but I didn't pay attention as I was listening to what Solidad was saying.

"Hey you there!" I heard someone whisper to me followed by a poke in my arm.

"Leave her alone Gary." I heard Leaf scold him. "She's probably not comfortable with us just yet."

"No it's fine." I whispered back and turned to face my former friends who all looked at me, minus Gladion who was too busy looking at the window to care.

"So Madeline right?" Dawn asked me with curious eyes. I nodded and she introduced herself.

Everyone else introduced themselves besides Paul who was silent. I looked at him expectantly and everyone just sweatdropped.

"Sorry about him, he doesn't like socialising that much." Leaf informed me, however I already knew that.

"My name's Paul." He spoke in another language which I recognised as Spanish.

I smiled at that. Maybe there was some recognition in him that he was able to speak to me.

"Nice to meet you, Paul." I replied in Spanish and everyone was just gaping at the two of us.

"What did you guys say?" Ash asked with wide eyes.

I grinned at them until I felt a certain pair of eyes staring into my head. I angled my head in the direction of the eyes and raised an eyebrow. Drew was looking at me but he immediately directed his gaze back to Solidad who was speaking about something that we hadn't paid attention to.

I was about to focus my attention back to the teacher only to look at the electric mouse on the table in front of me. Then I remembered. Pikachu never lost his memory. But I was in my disguise so that should be alright.

He sniffed me once, then twice, until I realised he was starting to recognise me. I looked at him with sad eyes and he gave me a knowing look. I felt like I was communicating with him somehow. Instead of giving him back to Ash, I pet him which made him smile happily. I smiled at this and felt the eyes of eight people on me. I looked at the corner of my eye to see them staring at me with wonder.

But that brings me back to reality. They won't ever remember me again.

If you don't know who Amethyst is, she's one of my own characters who I created for the sake of Drew having a twin sister. I think it's fun to give him a sibling to be honest.

That's an end to Chapter 2. I hope you enjoyed this chapter, and let me know if you actually like this story. It means a lot of people say their opinions so I can learn to improve my writing.

Thanks so much for reading and byeeeeee!
