Twenty Three

The next chapter is the last one.

Dedicated to those who were terribly injured and lost their lives in Orlando. We love you.
🌈❤️💛💚💙💜🌈

Also, this chapter is short. You'll see why.

I released a new book too! If you like Final Destination, you're in luck.;)

Anyway...

WARNING: death

When Scott woke up, he was surrounded by light.

It temporarily blinded him, making him groan as he sat up. He hissed in pain, putting his hand on his head to lessen the pain as he looked at his surroundings.

From the looks of it, he was in a hospital.

And he didn't know why.

"Scott?"

Scott looked up, Mitch standing by the doorway with a shorter man. He was buff and had a mustache that for him perfectly. Scott couldn't help but realize that Mike and Mitch look alike, making him widen his eyes.

"Y-you are Mi-Mitch's father? His real one?"

"Literally in the flesh," Mike confirmed, hugging Mitch close to him. Mitch was still wearing the jumpsuit he was put in, embarrassed and humiliated by the fact. "Connie died, uh?"

"Six years ago," Scott chocked out, smiling at Mitch. Mitch ran over, hugging him tightly. "I'm sorry, Mitchy. I'm so sorry."

Mitch shook his head, pointing towards his still-broken cochlear implant. Scott widened his eyes, not knowing how to respond. He swallowed the growing lump in his throat, signing once more.

*It's my fault. I'm so sorry, Mitch.*

*I could never blame you* Mitch signed back, kissing Scott's temple sweetly. *I forgive you. It was bound to break someday. Maybe this surgery wasn't right for me.*

*I love you, Mitchy.*

*I love you, Scott.*

"Oh, Scott! You're awake," a woman exclaimed, adjusting her glasses slightly. "I am Esther Koop, Avi's older sister."

"On my gosh," Scott mumbled, remembering Esther from anywhere. "You-you were the one who told me about my parents...oh my gosh."

Esther looked confused for a second, but when she realized what Scott meant she gasped. Tears gathered in her eyes, once more preparing herself for news.

News that no one should ever have to hear.

"Mitch, sit down. You need to," Esther began, her voice shaking as she looked at the brothers. Mitch read her lips, sitting down next to his injured brother. "The person that hit Kevin and Avi's car was near critical condition when she arrived. She is in a coma and it might take her a little while to wake up. We have to check to make sure she doesn't have brain damage."

Scott nodded, signing this to Mitch the entire time. Mike walked in, standing by his son so he could feel protected. Scott looked at his lap, wondering who it could be.

"What is her name?"

Esther looked at her clipboard, adjusting her glasses once more before looking back at Scott. She cleared her throat, hoping to fight the tears back.

"Melanie Martinez."

Scott and Mitch gasped, tears gathering in their eyes as Mike dropped his jaw open. Melanie just signed a contract that will make her a famous singer! Why is this happening to her?!

"The passenger did not have much luck," Esther replied softly, beginning to cry now. The brothers were crying loudly, unable to take anymore. "She was brain dead when she came here. There was no wa-"

"NOOOO!"

Mitch screamed, falling to his knees as he sobbed loudly. He was gasping for air, shaking his head as he hugged his knees. Mike was quick to hug him as Scott became confused. He looked at Esther, tears in his blue eyes.

"Who died?!"

Esther sniffed, her voice shaking as she answered.

"Kirstie.

"No, no!"

Three became two in one day.

~~~
It was the day of Kirstie's cremation and after it was finished, Scott and Mitch each received a box that contained them. Her plaque was placed near her parents, her name in gold with her birthdate.
And her death.
Kevin and Avi walked up to Scott and Mitch, the brothers unable to talk as they looked at the plaques that belonged to their parents and sister. Mitch sniffed, walking up to Kirstie's plaque. He kissed it gently, running his hands over it as he felt Gus squeeze his hand.
"I'll miss you, Kirst," Mitch whispered, refusing to leave. "Say hi to Mommy and Dad for me."
Gus let go of Mitch's hand, knowing that they were rushing this relationship. Besides, Mike was there and he was giving Gus the stink eye. Alex held Scott's hand, kissing it gently before looking at him.
"I'm so sorry, Scott. I'm so sorry."
Scott shrugged, unable to talk as he thought about the accident. Kevin and Avi were talking when Scott murmured some words. Avi looked confused, putting a hand on Scott's back.
"What was that, Scott?"
"Me."
"What?"
"Should've."
Kevin and Avi shared a look, not knowing what was going on. Gus and Mitch shared a look, not knowing what was going on themselves. Mike walked over cautiously, purposely standing in between Gus and Mitch. Scott sniffed, his booze shaking as he spoke.
"Should've been me."
Mitch shook his head, crying as he hugged his brother. He was sobbing, holding onto him tightly. Alex was crying too, unable to handle himself at the words Scott said.
"Scott, no. I don't want to lose you either," Mitch sobbed, making Scott cry himself. Scott suddenly became angry, releasing himself from Mitch's grip as he pulled at his hair.
"I-I was in the car that rolled down a hill! Her car went upside down! Our car catches on fire, her's didn't! She was wearing a seatbelt, I wasn't! I'M THE ONE WHO IS SUPPOSED TO DIE, I'M SUPPOSED TO BE ON THAT WALL, I'M SUPPOSED TO BE THE ASHES, I'M SUPPOSED TO BE SEEING MOM AND DAD AGAIN, I'M THE ONE WHO DESERVED TO DIE BECAUSE I TOLD I WISHED YOU WERE NEVER BORN! I deserve to di-die."
Scott fell to his knees, sobbing loudly as everyone stared at him with tears rolling down their cheeks. The only sounds were the waterfall and Scott's sons, the watery duo mixing well with each other. Mitch sat in front of his brother, shaking his head as he wiped away his tears.
"No one deserves to die, Scott. I know you want to see Mom and Dad again, but there was one person up there that Kirstie needed and that's why she went."
"Who?"
"Ariana," Mitch whispered, kissing his brother's cheek. He ran his hand over his new cochlear implant, sighing sadly. "We lost our parents and sister, Kirstie lost her parents and love. She's happy now."
Scott nodded, Mitch helping him up as Kevin and Avi smiled sadly at them. Mike patted Mitch's back, telling him he was going somewhere. Mitch nodded, waving goodbye to both his dad and Gus as they left. Alex kissed Scott longer than usual, letting go reluctantly. The three men and teenager stayed quiet until Kevin spoke up.
"Well, this bond is beautiful," Kevin pointed up, everyone nodding in agreement as the eldest man looked up. "Too bad that we're not all here."
"She's watching over us," Avi confirmed, smiling at the boys who became family to him. "Let's go, my boys."
And the four walked off together.
Remembering Kirstie forever.
A/N: Well...this is an emotional roller coaster ride.😂 It's all going to be over, but that's okay because I have other books to write!:D Anyways, I hope that you all enjoyed this chapter and remember that I love you all.:)
