Chapter Twenty-Seven: "Omega Jamboree"

Sean smiled, locking up the house before joining his dad in his car. The way his mom drove was so different from how his dad drove. His dad rolled the windows down and leaned casually against the door with the music loud enough to hear over the engine and wind. His mom never liked doing stuff like that... or did she? He never realized how much he didn't know about his parents. He'd lived with them for almost his whole life and was still learning things about them. Singing softly to the song that was playing, he smirked as he watched his dad wave to people along their block. His dad knew almost every member that was around his age. Waving to a woman that was mowing her lawn, his dad slowed the car to a stop and called out to her. "Saundra, what are you doing?" She gestured to the mower, chuckling out. "You're looking at it." His dad shook his head, teasing out. "I left you four messages." Saundra fixed her yellow bandana around her long braided blonde hair, shrugging out grimly. "I've been doing yard work today. I'm hoping to finish mowing before it gets too late... Why? What's going on?"

His dad flashed her a bright grin, telling her excitedly. "Us old dogs are heading up to the campground for an Omega Jamboree. Wanna come?" Saundra blinked, saying a little stunned. "But... I thought we aren't allowed to that anymore..." His dad looked at Sean briefly, before looking to her to say a bit wickedly. "Who's gonna stop us? Come on. Luke is bringing his grill and Jackie is bringing her mate's speaker truck." Saundra bit her lip, then yanked off her bandana and rushed toward the car, excitedly howling out. "Fuck it! Suzie can finish this shit!" His dad laughed, rolling down the back window to let her dive into the backseat. Sean blushed, trying to hide his anxiousness. He'd never interacted with the older Omegas. His dad began driving again and Saundra leaned out the window to call out to the Omega's that she knew about the Omega Jamboree. One Omega dashed for his car, leaving his confused mate holding the groceries. When his mate called out to him, his mate just blew him a kiss and told him that he'd be back late. Saundra laughed, asking his dad curiously. "Did you see Tony's face? That's fucking hilarious! He has no idea what going on."

Sean couldn't believe how fast word was spreading around. By the time they drove back up to the campground, it looked so different from the festival set up. They could hear the blasting music before they even got to the dirt parking lot. His dad pointed to a woman dancing on a tailgate of a large truck that had large speakers blaring. Saundra leaned forward from the backseat, chuckling out. "I'm surprised those damn things still work after all these years." As they parked, Sean stepped out and gawked at the older Omegas. He couldn't believe these were Omegas in his Pack. They were so different from the ones his age. They were laughing and helping each other set up things quickly. A good share were building a large bonfire, while others were dancing to the music. Even the ones that were helping with the grill were swaying their hips to the music and laughing like kids. As Omega's arrived, the others welcomed them with open arms and told them who needed help to finish setting up. Sean hid behind his dad, trying to become invisible. This was so overwhelming compared to what he was used too. When one of them saw him, they gently pulled him out from behind his dad, chuckling out with a warm smile. "So, you're Noah's puppy. You're so cute. Don't be so shy. We don't bite."

Sean blushed a little, then relaxed as his dad leaned on him and told the women sweetly. "No. But give us enough to drink and we bark your ear off." The woman laughed, rustling Noah's hair playfully as she shot back. "True! I'm glad you brought him. I tried to bring my boy... couldn't get him off his game." His dad patted her shoulder, telling her swiftly. "His loss. More fun for us." When she walked off to greet someone else, Sean nervously told his dad. "I can't drink..." His dad kissed his temple, telling him openly. "A lot of us can't drink. There is plenty of soda and nonalcoholic stuff. We're here to play, not to drink. You want anything?" Sean shook his head. He was too nervous to drink or eat. His dad looked away for a minute, then took his wrist and pulled him through the crowd of dancing Omegas. Reaching someone who was leaning against a tree and reading a book, his dad jumped out at him and yelled out. "HEY WALLY!" Sean bit his lip as Mr. Alten jumped and tossed his book into the air. His dad caught it, closing it as he laughed out to Mr. Alten. "Leave it to you bring a fucking book to a party. What am I going to do with you?"

Mr. Alten snatched his book back, playfully snapping out as he shoved his dad back. "Scare me to death, apparently! Damn it, Noah! I was just getting to the good part!" His dad waved a dismissive hand at him, chuckling out. "You always say that. You've been so busy that I rarely see you. Glad you came." Mr. Alten pulled his dad into a hug, chuckling out over his shoulder. "Of course. Someone has to keep you from getting into trouble." Sean stood watching them, feeling a little awkward until his dad told him sweetly. "I'm sure you know, Wally. He's the smartest werewolf that I know." Wally rolled his eyes, mumbling out. "Out of the few you know..." His dad playfully punched Wally in the chest, before adding affectionately. "This is my best friend and biggest tattle-tail of my youth. He was the one that told your mother where I was going. Then told my parents after we pinky sweared!" Wally rolled his eyes, hugging the book to his chest as he retorted coolly. "We've talked about this. Danger overrides a pinky swear. As your friend and because I care about what happened to you... I risked it. That's what good friends do." His dad leaned into Wally, giggling out. "Ya, well... It did turn out to be the right thing. I'm just too proud to admit it."

Sean blinked, pointing between them as he said softly. "Then... you two..." His dad nodded to Wally, who told him discreetly. "Ya. I know. I did tell you that you were a different breed of Omega..." Sean shook his head, mumbling out. "You did... I... I didn't get the hint. I thought..." His dad huffed, cutting in teasingly. "Oh? THAT he heard but years of Omega training just... poof." Sean lowered his eyes with submissive guilt, mumbling out. "Well... If it's any comfort... Mr. Alten was my favorite teacher." Mr. Alten blushed at Sean's words, before telling his father bluntly. "You copied my notes all the time. At least, he did the work." His dad rolled his eyes. Mr. Alten leaned closer to Sean, starting to say with a wicked smirk. "I'm glad you got your mother's work ethic, because if you had ended up like Noah. You be in detention-" His dad quickly covered his mouth to cut him off, leaning on him as he quickly finished out with a grin. "Teaching naughty pups the joys of studying. I was a good student." Mr. Alten shook his head, prying his dad's hand off to rush out. "That's where he met your Mother! Class clown!" His dad tackled Mr. Alten to the ground and the two started rolling around as they got into a playful fight that resulted in tickling.

Sean chuckled as he saw another side to his dad. He could almost see the playful pup that his dad had been and not the responsible loving father that he'd grown up with. Turning around to look at the other Omegas, he saw the same thing. They were just older versions of the puppies they'd always been. Any issues they might have had as puppies was gone. They had mates and puppies of their own. Some were even becoming grandparents. Yet, here they were having a good time. When the bonfire grew up into a roaring fire, the Omegas gathered up in a circle to dance around it. They called to everyone to do a dance that they had learned in school, and everyone rushed in and giggled at the thought of trying to remember it. His dad and Mr. Alten got up to join them, but his dad hung back to try coaxing him to join in with them. Sean shook his head, saying anxiously. "I don't know it..." His dad pulled him to into the line, telling him warmly. "Doesn't matter. Just have fun in trying!" Sean blushed the brightest red that he'd ever been. He wasn't a dancer. The Omegas twirled, bounced, and swayed around the bonfire. No one was in synch and no one was judging anyone else on their dance moves. They just laughed and moved to the music that was blaring.

Closing his eyes for a bit, he tried not to think about the people around him and kept his focus on the sky or ground as he danced. The more he got lost to the music, the more he lost any sense of embarrassment and just enjoyed the rush of being apart of the group. Having Mr. Alten on one side and his dad on the other made it easier too. When he started to feel subconscious, he just had to look at them to see how much fun they were having to keep him going. Every song they danced too made Sean forget how his day had started and all he wanted was more! Eventually, he got to where he was dancing in synch with Mr. Alten and his dad. Which went a long way to making others laugh and try to copy them. Swaying his hips like he had tail to show off, Sean giggled. He'd never danced like this in his life, but it was fun to feel loose enough to do it, just to see if he could do it. When they were too tired to continue, they took a break to drink some ice cold water and shared stories about the strangest gifts they got during their Nesting Periods. They even shared dirty stories of places that they'd tempted their mates to mount them in and didn't get caught. He thought that hearing about his dad's sex life would be gross, but he found it quite funny. It was more comforting to know that mistakes he'd made were pretty common among the Omegas in their youth.

After a little down time, they began to play games that Sean was eager to play. They played flag football, volleyball, and soccer. They raced each other and sang karaoke. They even had places for card games and board games. Sean wanted to do it all and more. Every Omega he talked to was so nice. He hadn't laughed so hard in a long time. Especially when Mr. Alten took a Volleyball to the chest and fell onto his ass. Only to yelp and whine about landing on his car keys, prompting his dad to blurt out. "Well, I ain't kissing your ass." Mr. Alten laughed, rolling over to wag his butt, causing his dad to smack his ass before yelping out. "OW! Your keys!" The hours passed with more Omegas showing up as the night went on. Even some younger Omegas showed up to see what was causing such a stir in town with the Betas and Alphas. Taking another breather to let some younger Omegas play with the older Omegas, Sean hugged his dad. His dad held him close, asking sweetly. "Are you having fun?" Sean nodded, then released him to go get a drink. Opening the cooler, he pulled out a water, when a gentle voice addressed him. "Sean? Can I have a word with you?"

Straightening up, Sean stared at Mark's mother. She looked exhausted but calm. Nodding, he slipped off to follow her into a quieter part of the woods. Discreetly checking for his phone, he tried not to let himself worry too much. He'd only met Mark's mom a handful of times, but she was the Luna and commanded as much respect as the lead Alpha. Standing in a nice moonlit area, she turned and asked him directly. "Is it true. Are you pregnant?" Sean's voice stopped working. He wasn't ready to tell anyone outside of family yet. She looked him over, then crossed her arms. Her expression was a stern one, when she told him openly. "We just heard from the doctor. My mate is... not happy with this turn of events. Breaking a tradition that is centuries old. Running off outside the Valley walls to piss off an old rival. And to top it off... My baby is sitting sedated in a hospital ward from internal bleeding... While you are partying." Sean bowed his head in shame, softly uttering out. "I'm sorry..." She shook her head with disappointment, then told him in a guarded voice. "I haven't told Mark because... I have my doubts that they are HIS. An issue that could have been avoided at the festival. But now, my son is going to have this hanging over his head until the puppies are born."

She started to circle him in a defensive way, growling out to him. "I understand if you are trying to hide the parentage because you fear being removed from the Pack... but I'm not going to have you drag my son into this. So, I'm going to ask you this just once. Have you slept with OTHER mates?" Sean swallowed, trying to avoid the question by saying gently aloud. "They are his." She moved up behind him, growling over his shoulder in the most intimidating way. "For your sake. They better be. Because if I find out that this is some sort of sick game you're playing... I'll throw you to those City wolves myself. Your bastard pups too." Sean clenched his fists to keep his hands from shaking, before telling her as docilly as he could. "They are his." She snorted at him, grabbing the neckline of his shirt before snarling by his ear. "Then where is the collar my son gave you? Why is that filthy Outsider refusing to answer WHY you were half naked when you were brought in?! Why is HE refusing to get a blood test done to compare against YOUR pups?" Sean shrugged. She was asking too much at once and he didn't know how to answer any of them.

Releasing him, she moved to stand in front of him and growled out darkly like a fearsome mother protecting her pup. "If I find out that those pups belong to Zedekiah. I'll drown them and rip out your tongue through your throat!" Sean tried not to show fear or aggression. He understood why she was upset. Exhaling through her nose, then told him in a lower and only slightly calmer tone of voice. "But I have a feeling that I know EXACTLY who's they are and why you went out there. Just like daddy... You have a taste for... Outsider." The way she said it, pulled a growl from Sean. He could have people say whatever about him, but not family. She stared him down without fear, further upsetting him. The only thing that calmed them both was his dad's voice bellowing out. "Sean. Come here." Looking over his shoulder to see his dad casually leaning on a tree, Sean stopped growling and obeyed. Walking past his dad, he heard him tell Mark's mother calmly. "You mistake my reasoning for putting this together, Mrs. Fischbach. This isn't a party. I'm proving a point." She stared at his dad confused, allowing him to continue. "Happy Omegas in turn make happy Alphas and Betas. Something we are going to need in this possible fight. You're worried about Mark. Fine. But someone has to tell the Omegas what is coming. We need to be ready. The more unified the Omegas are... the stronger our mates will be on the battlefield. This is just the first step. Getting them together."

Mrs. Fischbach moved closer to his dad, growling out. "You've never stepped up as my second. Why now? Feeling guilty?" Sean tensed, glancing between them. His dad showed no emotion, when he told her gently. "I'm going to let that slid because I know how worried you are. You've never had need of me until now. That's all." Mrs. Fischbach sniffled a little, her eyes filling with tears when she told his dad sternly. "I've never had anything against your son... but this... Noah, THIS hurts. I won't have my son paying for your sins with Daire... or those of your son." Sniffling she clipped his dad's shoulder in passing. His dad took the hit without any resistance, staring off into the open glen. Inching closer, Sean asked him curiously. "What did she mean? Who's Daire?" His dad didn't look at him, when he answered under his breath. "Daire was your mother's rival. Her best friend... and Zedekiah's younger brother." To Be Continued...
