Chapter Twenty-Nine: "Family Secrets"

Sean continued to watch the TV, until he finally drifted off to sleep. It was hard to resist Mark's warm body heat and his scent was smoothing to his nose. The combination seemed to give him the most pleasant dreams he had in a while. He dreamed of simply walking around in a dense forest in the fall. Taking in all the sights and sounds before finding a cave to curl up in to watch the rain. He could have stayed within the dream for hours watching the orange streaks rise across a deep blue sky. However, the loud rattling of a cart woke him. Opening his eyes, Sean whined a little in surprise. His face was buried against Mark's chest and Mark's arm was wrapped more protectively around him. Hearing his whine, Mark lifted his arm off Sean's shoulder and purred into his ear. "You ok? Did I crush you?" Sean blushed, snuggling into Mark's chest more to hide his face, but shook his head. He could feel the cold air touching him where Mark's arm left, prompting him to stay where it was warm. He'd just been a little surprised that he'd gotten into this position. Mark's hand ran through his hair, whispering to him in a deep loving voice. "Good morning, Sean."

Sean just hummed to him, trying to go back to sleep. While a gentle voice told Mark. "Good morning, Mr. Fischbach. Ready for some breakfast?" Mark growled a little, grumbling out. "I'd rather order out." The person chuckled, telling him lightly. "I know but this stuff is good for you." Mark huffed, shooting back. "Drugged, you mean." Sean contained his laugh, hiding his grin. The person's voice was a bit dry when he told him. "It's not drugged. It's just... It's easy to chew and keep down." Mark picked something up and sniffed it, then dropped it back on a tray to growl out. "Smells like it was made in a plastic jug and has no flavor. Pass." The person sighed heavily, before retorting. "You need to eat. It's the only way to get your strength back." Mark huffed, telling the person a bit snippy. "I won't get my strength back eating chalk. Give me flavors! Give me stuff that makes me WANT to eat, damn it! What you give me tastes like nothing and goes down like air! I'd rather have stale bread!" The person set a tray down on something, snapping back sternly. "Eat something! I'm not going to have your parents baring down on my neck because you are picky!"

Mark growled, prompting a growl from the other man. Finally sitting up, Sean slipped in coolly. "I'll make sure he eats." The young Alpha nurse snorted, grumbling out. "He better." Mark growled a bit more as the man pushed his cart out. Sean looked at the little tray of food that sat on a small table attached to the bed. Pulling the table over Mark's lap, Sean sniffed it for himself and gagged. It smelled like bland paste with bits of bland oatmeal made as Mark said... it a plastic container. Mark chuckled, gesturing to the food as he smugly told him. "Go on. Eat it." Sean locked eyes with Mark, before taking the tray and slipping from the bed. Walking to the window, he tossed the food out and told Mark flatly. "I wouldn't bury that shit. That's bird food." Mark laughed as Sean returned the tray. Smirking, Sean told him without looking into his eyes. "I can make you some soup. But I'm rusty... it will still be better than this stuff though. You'll be able to keep it down and get your strength back. You still like chicken and dumplings?" Mark's hand reached out to take his wrist, saying a little surprised. "Rusty? Didn't you love to cook for your family?"

Sean looked down at Mark's hand, mumbling out. "I did... but I stopped." Mark's thumb rubbed the back of Sean's hand, when he said softly. "I really did a number on you, didn't I...? Sean, I'm so sorry." Sean shook his head, smiling just a little when he told him in a wispy voice still without looking at him. "You were my first love. You were bound to leave the most scars..." Mark tried to lighten the mood by asking sweetly. "First? There were others?" Sean chuckled, his cheeks burning when he shyly mumbled out. "Well... I had my TV crushes. A few book crushes. They helped me recover in pieces. It's a slow process to figure out what I love and hate about people. What I'd do for them..." Mark very cautiously pulled his hand a little and Sean moved closer. Finally looking up at him, Mark told him with fragile eyes. "If I could go back... I'd change everything I said to you..." Sean sighed, leaning over Mark to brace his hands over his shoulders. Bringing his face close to his, Sean told him in a relaxed and loving voice. "As much as it hurt... I'm glad you did. What you did... It brought me closer to my parents. It showed me that I can endure heartache. It taught me that I don't NEED you. I can survive without you. I just choice not to, because I love you. I have nothing to prove to you and you have nothing to prove to me. We are just... good together. I miss us. I miss my best friend..."

Mark's hand moved over Sean's cheek, bringing him closer as he told him in a deep sincere voice. "Sean... I-" Sean kissed him briefly to silence him, then whispered over his lips. "Shush. Don't say it. Show me." Sean placed his lips back to his, letting Mark take over the kiss. The way he kissed him so tenderly and with such passion pulled Sean in. The world just fell away as Mark's kiss said more than his words could ever vocalize. Mark's hands moved up Sean's arms, wrapping around his neck to pull him down over him. His touch was so warm and so gentle. He held him as if he was a masterpiece made of glass. It made Sean shiver to be touched like that. Though he knew he wasn't fragile on the outside, it brought tears to his eyes to think that Mark wasn't just touching his skin... but something deeper. Something so fragile inside him that he knew light touches is what he needed. His touch and his kiss were so good that Sean didn't want to stop. However, as Mark's hands moved up from his hips and under his shirt to glide up his burned back, Sean had to break the kiss to inhale deeply. Taking a minute, Sean lowered his head down to Mark's shoulder panting heavily as he tried to catch his breath. Mark's hands moved to a spot without bandages before rubbing his back gently, while whispering into his ear. "Are you ok? What is this?" Sean could only nod in response.

When he finally caught his breath, Sean lifted his head and whispered to him with a warm smile. "Ya. I'm good. Just a burn. I'm fine. I'm... happy." Realizing how silly it sounded, he chuckled and blushed as he started to laugh. Mark's hands pushed Sean's bangs back off his face, his smile so bright when he told him. "I love hearing you laugh." Sean smiled, laying down over Mark only to hear him tense and try to suppress a groan. Springing up on all fours over him, Sean's smile faded as he rushed out. "Mark? I'm so sorry. I forgot... I..." Sean drifted off when he saw Mark smiling at him. Rubbing his chest a little, Mark sweetly told him. "It was worth it... My Luna." Sean blushed, looking away as he mumbled out. "That's not official, until you..." Sean's hand went up to his neck to rub the smooth skin there. The thought of Mark biting him was a bit intimidating. Mark's hands rubbed Sean's thighs, cooing out to him sweetly. "I won't hurt you." Sean smirked, dropping his hand as he told him honestly. "I know. I just... You need to recover first." Mark nodded, then asked him curiously. "Have you seen Nathan?" Sean shook his head, saying a bit worried. "No. They said he had a broken arm... but they weren't releasing him. The Elders... They were grilling him for his side of the story."

Mark shook his head, saying softly. "I hope our stories all match... but... Well..." Sean nodded, finishing for him grimly. "It all hinges on why I went out there with him. What did you say?" Mark sighed heavily, answering truthfully. "I told them what I knew. Nate drove off with you and I followed. You ran into some trouble. I stepped in. I didn't say more than that. My parents weren't happy with my answer. I think they suspect what you and Nathan were doing..." Sean lowered his head in shame. He wanted to tell him why they were taking it so seriously, but he couldn't bring himself to mention that he was pregnant. Forcing himself to nod, Mark sat up a little, telling him seriously. "Nathan may not have joined the Valley Wolves... but I'm not kicking you out because you..." Mark didn't finish, prompting Sean to lock timid eyes with him. Giving him a small warm smile, Mark finished. "He saved us both. You saved us both. I think that makes the transgression a moot point." Sean wanted to add that it was true, unless the puppies were Nate's. Swallowing the words down, he simply nodded in the hopes of letting the conversation die.

Leaning forward, Sean kissed Mark briefly. Upon pulling away, he told him sweetly. "I should go make your soup and see if I can find Nathan." Sean started to climb off the bed, when Mark took a hold of his arm. Sean froze, watching Mark lean closer to sniff his neck. Biting his lip, he asked him nervously. "Something wrong?" Leaning back, Mark told him a little confused. "It's just... Have you always smelled like that?" Sean blinked, asking perplexed. "Smelled like what?" Mark shrugged, laying back as he said casually. "Maybe it's just me. You're scent smells... sweeter than usual. I like it." Sean raised an eyebrow, starting to chuckle out. "I think those tubes up your nose is messing with your sense of smell." Sean's chuckle died shortly after when he recalled something about an Omega's scent changing during pregnancy. Their scents having a sweet milky underlay. That tended to make Alphas and Betas more protective and clingier. Backing away from Mark, trying to make a retreat before the scent really affected him. Just as he reached the door, Mark called his name in a pleasant voice. Turning slightly, Mark told him with big puppy brown eyes. "Be careful." Sean flashed him a warm smile, telling him with his chin held high. "Of course. Get some rest. We need you."

Slipping from the room, he walked up to the front counter and asked a female attendant now. "Is the Outsider, Nathan, still here? He came in with a broken arm." The Beta woman typed on her computer, then winced as she told him. "He is still here. It says he's waiting to be moved by the Elders." Sean tried to remain calm as he lied out. "Ya, I know. My mom wanted me to tell him something. Can I go see him?" The woman narrowed her eyes on him, asking curiously. "Your name is?" Sean grinned out smugly. "Sean. Sean McLoughlin. Laura McLoughlin's son." The woman tensed, then quickly pointed to the other side of the hallway, answering swiftly. "Release room three." Sean waved to her, then quickly rushed off before she could call anyone. Reaching the door, he burst into it and gawked at what he saw. Nathan was laying on a hospital bed with one arm in a cast and his other one was handcuffed to the bed rail. He had expected Nate to be mad and losing his mind by now. Instead, Nathan was distracted with a male nurse that was feeding him breakfast... that had clearly been snuck in. Unless Suzy Q snacks were being withheld from Mark.

Sean raised an eyebrow, watching the male Omega hand feed pieces of the Suzy Q snack to Nathan. The both of them were trying not to laugh about it as the Omega asked Nathan. "Are you serious? You've never had a S'more?" Sean had seen the Omega around but knew nothing about him. Much like himself, the guy kept to himself mostly. He didn't even know that he worked here. Crossing his arms, he waited for either of them to notice him. Nate's eyes were only on the Omega, when he told the Omega with a bright smile that showed off his dimples. "It's not something they have in the City, I guess. Or whatever that is..." The Omega perked up, leaning a bit closer to Nathan to chipperly reply. "It's a Suzy Q. My favorite snack. Although... I do prefer S'more ice cream the most. It's just harder to take to work. You know, cause it melts." Nathan leaned closer to the Omega teasing out. "Shame. I would have liked to of tasted it." The Omega blushed a deep red, turning away to let out an embarrassed squeal of a laugh. It made Sean bit his lip, when the first thing his laugh reminded him of was a laughing dolphin. The Omega's hand pushed Nathan back a bit, when he giggled out. "You... you are... I have no words to describe you."

Nathan tilted his head a little, flashing the Omega a beautiful grin as he told him openly. "I can think of a few to describe you." The Omega scooted a little down the bed away from Nathan, mumbling out with playful innocence in his voice. "I don't think I want to hear what you think of me. You've only just met me." Nathan nodded, then purred out to the Omega as he leaned as close as he could get. "True... but how am I supposed to get to know you better. When as you've said... You don't go outside much. Why is that?" The Omega didn't answer, he just stared at Nathan. Nathan extended out his arm that was in a cast, brushing his fingers down the Omega's cheek, prompting the Omega to whisper out breathlessly. "I don't know... I just feel safer there. The other Omegas... They... They scare me. People like you scare me." Nathan hooked a finger in the Omega's shirt, gently pulling him closer as he told him sweetly. "You wouldn't have sat down to chat with me if you were really afraid of me." Nathan sniffed the air, then said with a smirk. "In fact... I think you like me. But you're afraid of..." Nathan's eyes darted to Sean, finally acknowledging that he was there.

The Omega followed Nathan's eyes, then leapt up from the bed when he saw Sean. Clearing his throat, the Omega backed up from the bed and stammered out. "Sean! I didn't hear you... I... We were... I'm just gonna go." Nathan tensed up, asking as the Omega tried to rush out the door. "Wait! What's your name?" The Omega stopped in his tracks, his eyes timidly meeting Sean's like he was terrified to answer. Sean blinked; he'd never met someone that was afraid of him. Had he done something to him? The Omega swallowed, turning slightly to answer Nathan. "Matthew. My name is Matthew Patrick." Matthew then rushed from the room without looking Sean in the eyes. Raising an eyebrow, Sean asked Nathan curiously. "Secret admirer?" Nathan relaxed on the bed, chuckling out casually. "Seems so. Does that upset you? You could always challenge him for me." Sean chuckled, taking a seat on the bed as he told him honestly. "It's fine. I... I've decided to become Mark's Luna." Nathan sat up more comfortably, replying a little shocked. "Really? Are you sure that is what you want?" Sean licked his dry lips, then inhaled deeply before answering confidently. "Ya. It's what I want. Does that upset you?"

Nathan slumped down a bit, exhaling out under his breath. "I'd be lying if I said it didn't... I was hoping you'd pick me. But I get it. You two have history. And despite what I think about the guy... He did almost die to save you. I didn't even have to explain anything to him. I just had to tell him that you needed help and he told me to lead the way. And seeing the way you reacted when he went down... I had a feeling." Sean bowed his head, feeling a little guilty. Nathan leaned closer to him them, sniffing his shoulder before telling him with a sly smirk. "Your scent is different. Has a strange hint of banana milk now. Did you drink some?" Sean swallowed, locking eyes with Nathan, who suddenly realized and purred out. "Oh. Wait. Is it because you are...?" Sean nodded subtly, then shifted on the bed to change the subject. "Nathan, I need to know. What is it that the Elders want with you? What did you tell them?" Nathan snorted, grumbling out. "I told them that you were unhappy after being fired. So, I took you to the City to get away for a while. I told them that I didn't know that Omegas would attract so much attention in the City. Which got us into a conflict with Zedekiah. I told them about fleeing here and that is it."

Sean glanced at the closed door, then asked Nate curiously. "When they told you that I was pregnant. Why did you deny giving them a blood test? We have nothing to hide." Nathan cleared his throat, avoiding his eyes now as he suddenly shifted a bit uncomfortably. Sean froze, his voice growing with concern as he asked. "Or are you hiding something from them?" Nathan exhaled, avoiding his eyes, when he mumbled out. "If the puppies aren't Mark's, then they are mine. We don't need a blood test to confirm that." Sean grabbed Nathan's cuffed wrist, asking with more command behind it now. "Nathan. What are you hiding?" When Nathan didn't look at him or say anything. Sean took a minute to try and think of a reason that he won't want to get the test done. There could only be one reason he didn't want a blood test and based on everything he knew about Nathan's family... Sean gasped and removed his hand from him. Slowly sitting back, Sean asked him in a low tone of voice. "Nathan... Do you know who your father is?" Nathan slowly met his eyes, before answering quietly. "Yes. You've met him." To Be Continued...
