Chapter Three: "When Packs Collide"

Sean stayed by the window, watching the group of City Wolves start to shove each other playfully as they raced each other toward the door of the school. He couldn't tell the Alphas and Betas from the Omegas. They all looked so wild, and their clothes made their physical appearances deceiving. When they slipped out of his sight, Sean whined softly to himself with eagerness to go see them. Mr. Atlen tapped his shoulder, chuckling out sweetly. "Come on now. Take your seat, Sean. You'll see them soon enough." Sean reluctantly made his way back to his seat. The other Omegas gave him concerned looks, prompting Sean to flip his hood back up to block out their stares. Mr. Atlen continued with his lesson but Sean was having trouble falling it. He didn't know what was wrong with him. Was he so desperate to meet new people? Was it because their Omegas appeared to be more... fun? Butterflies fluttered in his stomach, until he was watching the clock as it ticked down. By the time the bell rang, Sean was the first to bolt up to his feet and tried to rush out the door. Just as he reached the door, Mr. Atlen called out nicely. "Sean? Stay. Everyone else is dismissed." Sean hugged his textbook to his chest as the other Omegas passed him and giggled.

Sean exhaled heavily, dragging his feet as he turned and returned to his desk. Mr. Atlen closed the door after the last Omega left, before walking back toward his teacher desk as he started in. "I'm worried about you, Sean. You are a good Pup... but I know the others are... ostracizing you." Sean sat his textbook down, mumbling out as nicely as he could. "I don't care what they think. I didn't ask to be what I am. I don't belong with Omegas." Mr. Atlen chuckled, sitting on the edge of his desk as he told him openly. "You're just a different breed of Omega." Sean pushed his hood back to let Mr. Atlen read his expressions better as he asked him grimly. "If I'm different. Then why am I supposed to act like THEM. No offence..." Giving him a little smirk, Mr. Atlen replied sweetly. "You're still an Omega. You learn the same things, but the difference is how YOU choose to use the information. They choose to be submissive and are content with their place. While you... you're scared of being submissive." Sean tensed, but Mr. Atlen quickly slipped in. "I was scared too. Omegas put a lot of trust in their mate and their pack to protect them. It's scary. Especially, when you are young. You feel used and you feel like you have no say anything... but it's not true."

Sean snorted, causing Mr. Atlen to add lightly. "I'm serious. There is a lot of pressure on Alphas and Betas to be tough and strong. They are told to band together and die for each other against threats from other packs. They are told to fight for the mates they want. They are told that to be good leaders they have to work harder and stand out amongst the others. It's at its worst when the pack is getting ready for a new leader. No one knows what they will be doing or who will be in charge. It's stressful and emotional." Sean gestured to the hall, snapping out. "Is that any excuse for them to treat me the way they do?!" Mr. Atlen wasn't fazed by Sean's outburst. Instead, he calmly told him. "No. But I can tell you that they treat you like that because WE don't go through that kind of stress. We don't have to impress anyone. They seek us out for the company and peace." Sean shrugged, asking a bit defensive. "So, why are you telling me this?" Mr. Atlen inhaled slowly before answering clearly. "I just want you to be careful. I know your generation is different from mine. Your pack makes you unhappy right now... but things will change. Just give it a chance." Sean nodded, but didn't completely feel the weight of his words. He had no respect for the spoiled members of his pack.

Mr. Atlen gave him a hopeful smile, telling him nicely. "You can go to lunch now." Collecting his book, Sean started for the door. Reaching the door, he stopped to tell Mr. Atlen over his shoulder. "Thank you. For everything, Mr. Atlen." Mr. Atlen smiled brightly, telling him warmly. "If you ever need someone to talk to. My door is always open to you. Good luck, Sean." Sean genuinely smiled back at him, then slipped out of the classroom. He was going to miss Mr. Atlen's classes. Jogging down the hallway, Sean reached his locker to put his textbook away and then ran off toward the cafeteria. He was one of the last ones to enter and slowed to a stop to see how the new werewolves were integrating. The cafeteria was surrounded in large glass windows that overlooked the track and football field. There were bar tables against the windows and then rows of long tables down the center. Against the wall closest to the door he'd come into was the kitchen, where the staff was loading trays like an assembly line. Usually, the place was pretty quiet with soft conversations. It was an unspoken thing that Alphas and Betas sat at one end and Omegas at the other. It wasn't a rule. It was just something that happened as scents came in and no one broke that... until now.

Now the Valley Alphas and Betas were sitting much closer to the Omega tables. They had made room for the City Wolves but seemed to be keeping them from the Valley Omegas. The Omegas giggled and chatted with the Alphas and Betas like this was normal behavior, but it wasn't. It made the Valley Wolves look selfish. Heading to the lunch line, Sean pulled out his school ID to show one of the staff members. The staff member scanned his ID, then waved him on to look at the food options that were on display behind a glass. Sean selected a few options and moved down the line, when he noticed a man leaning against the wall at the end by the cashier. The Valley Wolves finished getting their lunches charged to their IDs, then would avoid him like the plague. Sean looked him over without fear of him. He was dressed like the others he'd seen. He had a black leather jacket, torn black jeans that showed off bits of his strong legs. He wore black biker boots with steel chains on them. He had a chain hanging down one of his legs that appeared to be attached to his belt loop and something in his back pocket. His hands were covered in fingerless gloves and his shirt hung loose on him and had a band that Sean didn't recognize. His exposed arms were covered in dark colored tattoos and his ears were pierced with thick black discs. Yet, the part Sean wanted to see was his eyes.

The man's features were mostly hidden behind large sunglasses and his loose long dark bangs though. The lunch lady cleared her throat to get his attention, asking what he wanted again. Sean cringed and answered, then glanced back at the man. When the man caught him looking at him, his lips curled into a small smile and Sean turned away with a blush burning across his cheeks. How long had he been staring at him? He felt so embarrassed. Moving up to the last section to order his drink, he overheard one of the staff tell the man coolly. "I talked to the principal. And I'm sorry. But if your parents didn't sign the forms, then you don't get lunch." The man turned to face the staff man better, stating out coolly. "And you won't let us just pay for it... because?" The staff man straightened up, telling him seriously. "That's not how we do things in the Valley." The man raised his hand, telling the staff man as nicely as he could. "Look. We just drove eight hours to get here. We are hungry. We are thirsty and you are refusing to serve us?" The staff man gave him a sad shrug, telling him honestly. "I'm sorry. But without confirmation that your group is supposed to be here-" The man scoffed, snapping back a bit loudly. "How many City Wolves drive all the way out here to crash your preppy parties? Our Zeta couldn't give two fucks about what we are doing here. And our generation follows HER."

Sean turned to see a woman dressed in leather with fur lining step up to him. Her long red hair was braided down one of her shoulders and she was muscular even for an Alpha. Her whole body was practically muscles, and she was covered in scars. Her bright emerald eyes reflected in the light as she asked the man in a stern voice. "What's the hold up, Nathan? The boys are hungry." Nate gestured to the staff, answering bluntly. "They want our Zeta Alpha's permission to be here. They don't seem to get that unlike THEM, our Zetas make us fend for ourselves." The Alpha nodded, smirking as she told the staff with a smug smirk. "Well, then... Looks like we'll fend for ourselves then." Sean watched her turn on her heel, before growling at a passing Valley Beta. The Beta jumped back from her, and she snatched his pudding. The second the others saw her do that; the other City Wolves rushed in to stalk the tables. The City Wolves growled as they snatched sandwiches and drinks from lesser Valley Wolves. The Valley Alphas got up to snarl and defend the Omegas that the City Wolves snatched stuff from. Despite all the snarling and growling though, no fights broke out. The City Wolves only took what they planned to eat or drink. Retreating into their pack to gulp and munch down the food like they hadn't eaten in days.

The lunch lady finished ringing Sean up and handed him his tray. Sean took it and jumped as a sharp screaming yelp broke out. Among the City Wolves, two were fighting over a piece of BBQ chicken. One of the men had slammed the other to the floor and was snarling at him as he yelped until he gave up the chicken. Taking it, the man let the other one go and ate it fast before any others tried to take it from him. Sean could see why they were called savages now. Didn't they have pack laws to keep them from fighting over such things? The City Alpha female, laughed at the fight, then scooped out pudding with her hand to eat it. Sean started to move toward his usual Omega table, when Nathan put a hand out in front of him to stop him. It wasn't an aggressive gesture, but Sean tensed for a possible fight after what he just saw. Stepping out in front of him, Nathan asked him in a warm voice. "What's your name?" Sean puffed himself up, answering casually. "Sean." Nathan smiled, looking him over as he told him in a genuine tone. "You've got very pretty eyes, Sean. Do you mind? I can pay." Nathan removed his wallet from his back pocket, opening it to remove a few twenty-dollar bills to show him. Sean looked over the money, before extending out his tray to him as he said openly. "Keep your money. Take it. I can get more."

Nathan narrowed his eyes on him suspiciously but asked sweetly. "Are you sure?" Sean nodded, gesturing to the two that had been fighting, upon saying to him lightly. "Ya. You seem to need it more than I do at the moment." Nathan put his wallet away and removed the drink off the tray. Taking the tray, he whistled over his shoulder and the man that had been yelping rushed over. Nate handed him the tray, then pushed him away playfully. The young Beta laughed and the others in the City pack teased him, but they let him eat in peace. Sean was so confused by their sudden kindness to each other. Nathan opened the cold coffee, asking him with a smirk. "You Valley pups don't spat much?" Sean raised an eyebrow and Nathan chuckled out more clearly. "You don't play fight?" Sean shook his head. The idea of fighting for fun was... weird. Nathan suddenly leaned closer to sniff him, and Sean cringed. Did he smell bad? No one had ever sniffed him before. Having him so close though, Sean couldn't help sniffing him in return. He smelled like leather and oil... but under that was a strange sweet musky smell that reminded him of warm sweet smelling coffee.

He'd never smelled anyone with a scent like that. It was addictive. Without meaning to, he stepped closer to sniff his neck a bit more to see if the scent was all in his head. It wasn't. He liked how balanced his scent was. Nathan had to be a Beta with a such a balanced scent like that. Alphas had much stronger scents that usually were of a darker muskier variety. Nathan's lips drew closer to his ear as he whispered a little surprised. "You're an Omega?" Sean stepped back from him, covering his neck in shame. Avoiding his eyes, he growled out. "Ya...? So what?" Nathan reached out to touch his wrist to coax his hand down away from his neck. Sean met his eyes with his defensive ones. He waited for Nathan to say something snarky or mean. Instead, Nathan told him with fascination. "Nothing. I've just... I've never seen or smelled an Omega before." Sean lowered his hand, blinking as he stated out in shock. "What? How is that possible?" Nathan huffed, shrugging out innocently. "City Wolves don't have Omegas." Sean's jaw dropped. Nathan chuckled, then his smile faded as his attention was drawn to something over Sean's shoulder.

Sean followed his gaze and stiffened. Mark was standing behind him with his eyes locked on Nathan. Sean looked between them nervously. The two began to emanate deep throaty growls that slowly grew in volume, but neither of them moved. The hairs on Sean's arms rose as he felt the influence between them. Nathan was not scared of Mark and wasn't backing down. Sean started to raise his hands, getting ready to push them apart. Just as Mark took a step forward, Sean noticed two arms rushed in to push the two back as a powerful voice commanded them loudly. "That's enough! Break it up!" Mark didn't move, until Nathan turned away from him. Heading back to his group of City Wolves, the City Wolves began to tease Nathan loudly. Nathan playfully shoved two of them, then took a seat to finish his drink. The principal stood firm to make sure Mark walked off but kept Sean by the arm to ask over his shoulder. "Are you ok?" Sean nodded, he felt fine. Just a little shaken up. Their two influences were strong and unrelenting. His submissive nature had just gotten overwhelmed by the sensation. The principal released him, then stormed off to chat with the City Wolves.

Heading to the Omega table, Sean took a seat on the bench to catch his breath. Now that he was calming down, he did feel a little weird. Discreetly reaching down, he hugged his pelvic region a bit. He was starting to feel a strange pressure that ached there. It didn't hurt... but it was uncomfortable. Mark slipped into the seat across from him, concern on his face when he asked. "He didn't hurt you, did he?" Sean shook his head, trying to fight off how hot the room suddenly felt. Sean leaned his chest against the table, feeling a bit dizzy. He could almost hear everyone at the tables talking about him, but his brain couldn't focus on any one group for too long. Mark was asking him things, but he wasn't listening. Turning sideways on the bench, Sean whined a little. Something was wrong with him. Mark got up, moving around the table to kneel in front of him. He asked if he was alright, and Sean shook his head. Mark started to call out to the principal but stopped. Sean looked up to find out why and watched Mark's soft brown eyes turn into large brown wolf eyes. Mark looked almost scared of something that was building within him as his eyes stared distantly at the floor.

Sean grabbed his pelvis as a sharp pain caused him to double over with a high pitched whine. Mark suddenly rose to his full height, his growl starting to thunder off the walls as his canine teeth and claws slowly grew out. From across the room, the City Wolves sniffed the air with curiosity. Among them, Nathan rose from his seat to sniff the air before his eyes went to Sean. The principal turned around and uttered out loudly. "Oh shit!" Sean looked up as another Alpha tried to grab his arm, but Mark slapped him hard to the floor. Mark moved to block him from the other Werewolves, growling and lashing out at the other Alphas and Betas that were trying to get close enough to really smell Sean. The principal rushed in, and Mark whirled around to face him, ready for a fight, but the principal merely kept Mark's attention on himself. From the kitchen, a Zeta Omega woman grabbed Sean and rushed him toward the door. Just as he slipped out the door, another Zeta Omega bolted the doors. Mark slammed into the bolted doors, snarling at the Zeta Omega behind the protective glass. Sean stumbled to the floor in pain, straining out. "What's happening to me?" The Zeta Omega smirked, telling him sweetly. "You're ok. You've reached your Nesting period. I'm going to call your mom and have her take you home. You need to rest." Sean shook his head, gesturing to the doors as he mumbled out. "Mark...?"

The Zeta Omega picked him up, carrying him to the office, while telling him calmly. "He'll be fine. You triggered his Rut. He likes you. He didn't want anyone to smell you or hurt you. It's normal." Laying him down on the office couch, the Zeta woman told a Zeta Beta behind the counter. "Can you get Sean's mother on the phone? We've got another one that just hit their Nesting period." The Zeta man behind the counter picked up the phone to dial the number. Putting the phone to his ear, he chuckled out. "That's six today. Definitely getting to be that time of year again. Don't you miss it?" The woman snorted, chuckling back. "Oh, sweet Noctiluna, no! I'm glad the breeding years are behind me." Sean curled up, whining as his body tried to get comfortable but he couldn't. The couch was too stiff and didn't let him get his legs up high enough. The woman sat beside him, trying to comfort him as she told the man behind the counter. "Must be all the new Alphas and Betas... It's making our Valley Alphas and Betas tense and their scents are triggering the Omegas." The man nodded, then held up a finger to talk to someone on the line. Sean clawed at his tight clothes that were making him feel squeezed and too hot. He wanted to take them off but resisted the urge.

Sliding his hands along the inside of his thighs though, he yelped and sat up. His hands were coming back wet and sticky. He really hated himself for not listening to Mr. Atlen's last lesson. Looking at his legs, he watched them dampen more and blushed. The woman patted his shoulder, telling him calmly. "Easy now. It's ok. It's just Slick. You know, the... the lube your body makes for mating? Easy. Calm down." Sean turned to face the couch, trying to hide his growing shame. To Be Continued...
