Chapter Thirty-Three: "Unmuzzled"

Sean stared at the gas pump, trying to will it to fill faster with his thoughts. Ethan leaned against the gas pump, crossing his arms as he sneered out to him. "Must be nice to not watch your figure." Sean tore the last of the meat off the bone of his chicken wing, trying hard not to respond to him. He was unable to keep himself from briefly looking over Ethan though. Ethan was skinner than him only because he had no muscles to speak of. With how tiny he was, he could imagine Sires lusting after him, but he wasn't a prime mate for breeding. Noticing the black football jersey that hung off his small body, Sean couldn't stop himself from snorting. Ethan glared at him, snapping out. "Something funny, Whore?" Sean put the wing bone into his mouth to chew on the end of it, his eyes locking with Ethan's. Ethan flashed him a sassy grin, saying in a passive aggressive tone. "I hope your little stumble didn't induce a miscarriage... I'd hate to think I deprived you the pain of seeing them drown. Although, your appetite clears my conscience." Sean removed the bone from his mouth long enough to blurt out with indifference. "I didn't realize you the had compacity to feel anything that wasn't shoved up your ass or down your throat."

Ethan's jaw dropped, but Sean just stared back at him with a small humorless smile. Straightening up off the gas pump, Ethan growled out to him. "I guess you would know that first hand, huh? Oh, sorry... You didn't mention hands. Probably because your Outsider only fucks you two ways. One to shut you up and the other to satisfy himself by mounting you from behind. Since he wouldn't get off looking at your face!" Ethan's friends gawked at each other, before snickering. Sean ignored them, focusing only on Ethan. Ethan took his silence as a win and quickly added even louder for others to overhear. "How does it feel to know that all of the Pack is thinking of you as an Outsider's cum dump? What happened, Sean? Did you realize you were going to die alone and decided to trap a few Alphas and Betas to get a little attention?" Other Pack members that stood around the gas pumps filling their vehicles looked over at them to see how this was going to escalate. Some of the younger Pack members even started to pull out phones to record it. While the Zeta Pack members just watched with neutral expressions. Ethan glanced at everyone, chuckling out loud and clear. "I'm sure your parents are so proud. Like daddy, like son. Did he tell you how the Outsiders like it? I heard from my dad that he was a real whore back in his day."

Sean took his other hand off the gas nozzle that was set in his gas tank. He was afraid that he'd spray him in gas and blow everything up. He didn't care if Ethan slandered his name but bringing up family was where he drew the line. Removing the bone from his mouth again, he walked up to Ethan without a sound. Ethan was distracted looking at his friends and laughing, until his friends yelped and pointed. Ethan whirled around and jumped back when he realized how close Sean was to him now. Lifting the thick bone before Ethan's face, Sean snapped it between his fingers with one hand. He hadn't meant to break it, he just wanted to threaten him with it like a knife... but he was stronger than he thought he was when he was angry. Sean's voice rumbled as he snarled out to him without a hit of mercy or fear of retaliation. "You know what, Ethan... My parents are proud of me. I didn't fall into the wrong crowd of friends that taught me to whore myself out for their amusement! I don't run my mouth because I need people to think I'm smarter than I am! I don't like being the center of attention because I need to stay relevant! I'm not worried that I won't have a mate that can take care of me! Nor do I put others down to feel better about myself!"

Ethan started backing up and Sean kept on him, backing him across the lot toward the wall of the gas station. Now that he had started, the words rolled from Sean like a tidal wave. Years of holding his tongue and being the better person disintegrating as he continued, getting louder and louder in his growing fury toward him. "Yes, my dad fucked an Outsider and so did I! But it seems he made the right choice with prospects like your dad. After all, MY parents are high ranking Pack members. You wanna see where fucking your way through school and letting others use you for entertainment goes? Go visit your dad at work! You'll be alone and dancing on a pole for your single and cheating friends too! You have no self-respect! No prospects! No real friends! You treated your life like a joke and no matter how badly you hurt others with your words... Their flaws are NOTHING compared to the joke that is YOUR life." Ethan's back hit the brick wall of the gas station and Sean growled into his face darkly. "Make fun of me, Ethan. Drag my name through as much mud as you can find. I FUCKING DARE YOU! You know why I don't care?! Because at the end of the day... I'm just glad I'm not YOU!"

Sean never blinked, keeping his eyes locked on Ethan's teary ones. It was a challenge that he was issuing to him with his tense body language. He was ready to fight him or dish out more to put him in his place. Ethan lowered his eyes submissively, letting out a distressed whine. Sean could tell that he'd gotten his point across to him. Ethan was like a scolded puppy now, trying to hold back tears and avoiding everyone's eyes. Sean started to turn to leave, until he heard Ethan's friends giggle and snicker at how fast Ethan cowered to him. The anger flared up in Sean, causing him to snarl and lunge for them. Ethan's friends let out a series of yelps as they bolted away from him. They tripped over themselves and on the display stands, but Sean didn't pursue them. Instead, he yelled after them aggressively. "What are laughing at?! YOU'RE JUST AS BAD!" Sean watched them run to their car, before slowly turning to look at the young Pack members that were around his age and were still recording them with his phone. Shaking his head, he raised his hands and snapped out at them. "That's right. Stand there and watch! Don't step in and do the right thing!"

Sean saw one or two lower their phones a little, prompting him to add bluntly to them as their eyes met. "You are just as guilty for letting this behavior continue! Don't you see that?! But by all means, record it and post it to get your fleeting minutes of fame! Put the bullies in the spotlight to humiliate them! Instead of helping the victim, you cowards!" The Zetas tilted their heads to look at the young people with more interest. Some of the young people turned off their phones, while others didn't. Glaring at the ones that didn't, Sean said in a calmer tone. "You know why this Pack is dividing and falling apart...? Because us young dogs won't get off the porch. You wanna sit and watch... You want to blame your problems on everyone else. All you care about... is what YOU WANT! We are a Pack! If we can't even bother to stop the fight amongst ourselves... then what the fuck are we going to do when others come for us?! Shame on ALL OF YOU! I hope you got your laugh, you window ornaments." Sean glanced back at Ethan, seeing him wiping tears from his eyes. Inhaling deeply, Sean exhaled the last of his anger before asking Ethan nicely. "Do you want a ride home?" As much as he didn't want to take Ethan anywhere, he was pretty sure that his friends had abandoned him here.

While he wasn't afraid of running and walking around town, for other Omegas it was scary. If their Nesting periods or Heats hit suddenly, it left them at the mercy of whoever came upon them. Normal Omegas never traveled alone. Ethan hugged himself, shuffling on his feet as he realized for himself that his friends had driven off without him. Beckoning to him, he told him in a more sympathetic tone. "Come on. You don't want to stay here." Sean walked to the gas pump, checking it to see if it had finished. Seeing that it had, he put the hose back and wavered on his feet. The strong smell of gas filled his nose so suddenly that his stomach lurched without warning. Rushing to the trash can beside the pump, Sean leaned over and tossed up the chicken that he'd eaten. Spitting, Sean stepped back to lean on his car. Fighting down the fatigue that he felt, he walked around to get into the driver seat. Turning his car on, he rolled down the window to call out to Ethan. "Come on, Ethan. I don't have all day." Ethan timidly walked over and slipped into his passenger seat but didn't look at him. The second he was in, Sean started driving. He felt like he was getting sicker by the minute, but his own damn conscience couldn't bring himself to leave Ethan.

Whether he liked him or not. Ethan was apart of the Pack and even if he didn't deserve it, he was not going to be apart of the problem. They drove in silence for a time, before Ethan asked him in a very soft voice. "How long have you known that about my dad?" Sean's grip on the wheel tensed a little as a pang of shame hit him. Keeping his eyes on the road, he answered honestly. "A few years. I overheard my mom taking about a fight that she had broken up between your dad and a drunken Beta." Ethan glanced at him, asking a little surprised. "And you never told anyone?" Sean shrugged, truthfully answering. "I don't gossip." Briefly looking at Ethan, he told him a little heavy hearted. "I'm sorry. I was angry... I shouldn't have brought up your dad. It was petty." Ethan huffed without humor, mumbling out. "You're apologizing for that? After what I said to you?" Sean looked at Ethan more closely at the red light, answering openly. "I don't take back what I said to you. I just regret lowering myself enough to bring your dad into it... I was raised better than that. I don't know your dad personally or what he's gone through. I know he's been struggling and going to Mark's mom for advice..."

Ethan rolled his eyes, grumbling out. "You have no idea how important it was for me to have Mark... and you took him from me. I'll never forgive you." Sean turned his eyes back to the road, replying coolly. "I didn't take him from anyone. Mark and I have always been close friends. His decision was his own." Ethan scoffed, turning in the seat to face him as he shot back. "Oh, piss off, Sean! He was MY friend too you know! The only difference was that I knew my place. You didn't. You keep saying you feel nothing for him and yet you practically perk your ears up whenever he is around to encourage him to pursue you. You lead him on and hurt him... Over and over. It's sadistic! And now you're knocked up with some Outsider's-" Sean slammed on the brake, causing Ethan's face to hit the dash. Sean hadn't meant to do that, but he took advantage of Ethan's moment of silence to cut in firmly. "Ethan. You can keep blaming me. Or you can come to the conclusion that Mark wasn't interested in you and move on to someone else." Ethan lowered his hands from his face, bitterly retorting. "Like who?! Mark was the only one that didn't make me..." Ethan cut himself off to keep from finishing, but his teary look gave him away.

Adjusting to face him a bit better, Sean gently told him. "Look. If you don't want people to see you that way, then maybe-" Ethan raised a hand, growling out. "Don't say it! I am NOT what people say I am." Sean raised an eyebrow with concern, prompting Ethan to shift uncomfortably before he reluctantly admitted to him. "I've never slept with anyone. I just... tease them. I've seen what others have done to my dad before he met my step-mom... So, I... I don't do anything, but I let them say otherwise. Mark is the only one that knew... and he's the only one that has never asked me to..." Sighing, Ethan cut himself off again and grumbled out instead. "Thank you for driving me home." Ethan climbed out of the car quickly and slammed the door. Rolling down the window, Sean called out to him in a friendly tone. "Ethan?" Ethan stopped half-way up his yard to look back at him. Giving him a shrug, Sean told him lightly. "Listen. If you... If you need to talk to somebody. Whether it's me or Mark... Don't be afraid to call." Ethan looked like he might say something, but then he turned and walked away. Sean watched him go inside, then drove off.

The closer he got to home, the more he felt like he was going to be sick. Had the chicken wings messed with his stomach? Pulling up, he moved slowly and took deep breaths. He just wanted to get up to his room. Bringing his leftover wings into the kitchen, he smiled when he saw his mom and dad sleeping on the couch. It was the cutest sight to see his dad laying across his mom's lap and his mom laying across his dad's back. Putting the wings in the fridge, he turned the TV down as he passed it before heading up to his room. Stripping down to his pajamas, he started to head for his bed, until his stomach lurched again. Running toward the bathroom, Sean made it to the sink and threw up. Turning the water on, he splashed his heated face with cold water and groaned. He was starting to hate those spicy wings all over again. Taking the little trash can, he trudged back to his room. He started to walk to his bed, but the idea of laying flat was making him sick. So, he walked to his bowl chair instead. Curling up beneath his soft cooling blankets, he whined a little but slowly started to feel better. He had just fallen asleep when his phone started to beep quietly with incoming messages that he didn't hear.

Back at the hospital, Nathan was in the middle of a chess game with Mark. Nate hated chess and currently he was losing. Moving his knight piece, he was about to make a move, when Mark uttered out under his breath. "I wouldn't do that." Nate glared at him, choosing a different spot, when Mark continued. "Or that." Nate growled, asking a bit sourly. "Oh, ya? Why it that?" Mark pointed to his pieces, telling him confidently. "You put it there or there and these two are going to capture him." Nathan reassessed the board, groaning out in realization. "Ugh! Fine. You win. Let's play something else!" Mark snorted, telling him casually. "No. You have a move that you can do." Nate rolled his eyes, asking sarcastically. "Ya? Where?" Mark shrugged, replying calmly. "I'm not telling you. Figure it out." Nathan growled a bit louder, thinking about striking the pieces off the board, until Mark's phone started beeping with messages. Mark turned to get his phone and Nathan seized the moment to cheat. Moving the pieces quickly, he straightened up innocently when Mark faced him. However, Mark's expression was a concerned one. Leaning closer, Nate asked him. "What's wrong?"

Mark pressed something and set his phone down for Nate to see it too. On the phone, a video started playing. The likes and comments kept coming in under it on the Pack's social chat room, that was only ever used for emergencies or notifications for Pack events. As they both leaned in to watch, they both shared a look when they saw Sean confronting Ethan. To Be Continued...
