Now this is interesting!

I did not, even in dreams, expect Val to call me for help and that too about investigating a person of Regio family.

If the call itself is not surprising, then it is surely a shock that Val is investigating her would be husband's family while she is keeping them busy in the engagement.

Which means my suspicion about Demetri is right!

There is something that Val knows about but I don't which I will be finding out now.

Putting aside the worries about my wife's engagement ceremony with another man aside, I started towards the hospital Val mentioned about.

Since Val said that Arran is already on a job closely related to the present investigation which leaves Luci to support me from backend.

Reaching the private quarters of the hospital, the series of cottages stood in columns. Must be private cottages for the VIP patients for longer stay.

I went inside and right near the door is the directing doctor waiting for me. With Luci's prior warning about my arrival, I was lead inside into a private room to conduct the very important secret conversations.

Fortunately the directing doctor was someone who owes me a favor in the past which made things easy for me.

"Majesty, glad to be at your service. Please have the drink." He placed a hot drink before me very politely.

Sitting on the settee before me, he was stiff and his posture was attentive. I nodded my head and gestured him to be comfortable before we go deep into the matters.

"Maya Regio. This file has everything about the lady. The file is encrypted by complicated security, sir but with your well accomplished sources, you can easily get it opened." The Director said providing a USB to me.

"This USB is a duplicate copy made by the attending family member few years ago when the original files went missing. But later on when the missing files were found back, the USB is just kept aside in the safe. I don't think it will be noticed if this goes missing for few days." I nodded my head and ducked the USB in the pocket.

"Who is Maya Regio to Demetri Regio." This was the first question that came to my mind when Val asked to investigate her.

I will surely find out the roots of the conspiracy from years if I could find out what and who Maya Regio is to Demetri.

This will solve many of my questions if what Val's doubt is right.

"His mother." What?

"Demetri is her son? Isn't his parents Paulo and Jade Regio?" I asked astonished at the new revelation.

I made sure that the recorder I'm hiding in my inner pocket is on while I inquired the Director more about the Regio deeply buried secrets.

Well, well, well, Interesting!

"This very hospital secretly changed the birth information and made Demetri Regio a son of Maya's brother and his wife. It's a well buried secret, Majesty. The only reason I'm risking my life is all because I owe you a big time in the past."

Wait! Demetri is Maya's son or her brother's son, why does it even matter so much? Unless...

Unless...!

"Who is Demetri's biological father?"

So this is why!

This is why it was all done.

Demetri can't be – Now it all came clear to me. The reason behind every single murder attempt and conspiracy against me and my family.

Because it was all for f**king Demetri!

And this why Val decided to trap him in a marriage with her!

Fudging f**k!

I had my trusted cyber staff on breaking the encryption of the USB while I paced around the room as I slowly connected the dots of all the past events.

Luci is also firm and hell bent on cracking the password with their combined excellent skills. It is past midnight and as per my spy's information, the engagement ceremony took off in flying colors.

Everything went smoothly and the party was a hit but the anger and hurt I previously had regarding this wedding lessened after I got to know Val's intentions behind doing so.

"This is expected. Quite expected." Came the familiar voice filled with dark amusement.

In came Val tagged along by Arran with a bag in Arran's hand and few scratched on his face and arms. Poor man, must've gotten into trouble while collecting the evidences.

"Darling, you are late." I said as a smile took over my previous scowl. Seeing her, I'm just so happy and one of the reasons is that her liking for the pest is farce and a trap.

"Shut up. Did you crack the password yet?" And there goes the business like tone.

"Not yet. They are working on it. When did you come to know who Demetri is?" I asked and before she could answer, the team hollered Eureka with huge grins.

Luci connected the USB to the screen and opened the first file which is Maya Regio's health reports.

The cyber team walked out after the work is done and with utter silence, we went over all the reports and files on the drive.

They are physical and mental health reports of Maya Regio spanning from three decades. That was how many years that the woman was locked in the private cottage of the hospital.

But there was one last paper which choked the breath out of me. It was the original birth certificate and paternity report with signatures from both the parents.

"This is what I got hold off two years ago." Val revealed suddenly when everyone of us are looking at the screen stunned and shocked.

Two years ago?

I turned towards her so fast that I'm pretty sure I would sport a sprain definitely if I turn my attention to it.

"You what?" I and Luci asked in unison, quite really astonished by her statement.

"Two years ago when we were on brink of getting divorced, I stumbled upon these papers but I did not give it a long thought because I didn't knew then that –" She took a deep breath and sipped water before continuing.

"I didn't know Tio Matias was the one behind your parent's assassination and several murder attempts on you." My hand tightened into a fist when the name came out of her mouth.

It felt as if something poisonous is crawling on me when I someone mentions that man. The very man who killed my parents!

Matias Garcia! My own uncle and my father bloody brother!

"Why did you tell me about it then?" At this Val only gave me a sarcastic scoff which quite clearly stated the bitter situations between us at that time.

"That was his secret which has nothing to do with me, Arse. Frankly speaking, I felt bad for Tia for being ignorant of an illegitimate child her husband has when she was childless all the while. How can I break this news to anyone and then I did not even know Tio was the mastermind behind everything."

So this is why!

The reason why he was fighting against the reigning monarch with no one to take his place in future was because he did have a heir of his own.

An illegitimate one!

He was preparing everything for his son, Demetri Regio. A son he had with Maya Regio secretly.

"But why bringing down the monarchy though when he can have Demetri take it in future?" Luci asked scratching her nose in rage.

Now this is something very clear. The reason he wanted the monarchy to go down and his business empire to own everything was –

"Because a King's throne only accepts a legitimate child. Son or a daughter, king or Queen, it only accepts a legitimately conceived child on it. That is law. Demetri is not Tia's son. He was a product of Matias's illicit affair and that is enough reason to keep him away from throne." I said and from there on Val continued with explaining Luci.

"But business is different. An inheritance that comes with business applies to illegitimate children as well. Tio was trying to bring down the centuries old monarchy was because he wanted his son to rule on the throne that was established by the power of trade and wealth unlike how Arse was sitting on it because he was born royal. Although, I still did not understand the reason behind his parent's assassination. If any, he should've killed Arsenio since he was the ultimate heir to the throne. Killing his parents and keeping the heir alive serves no great purpose."

Exactly my doubt!

If Matias had a son to take over his place in future, then why killing my parents when he should've killed me?

Well, he did try to murder me silently several times but it still doesn't answer the impulsive decision behind such foolish step.

"There must some other story behind their murder. But right now if there is anyone who is very much safe and sound from all sides is you Valentina."

"Because their last resort and the last rung of their ladder is having Bianchi's on their side."

With the realizations dawned unto me, I'm now ready to destroy Matias and his people completely. I will bring every single of his sin out.

I will let them pay every tear I dropped and every pain we all felt now that I know particularly whom to target.

It is now the beginning of the end!
