A ten minute break was enough for everyone to have cookies and drinks -which I obediently paid for in fictional money- and I realized, to my dismay, that half of the readers didn't like coffee. They were just nice enough not to rub it in.
Yeah! I know what you're thinking!!
Asha especially enjoyed teasing me on this short break.
“Author is in Chapter 11.” She giggled and stuck her tongue out. “Pun intended.”
Yeah, I didn't get it either... I had to Google it to learn it's a reference to bankruptcy code 11 in the United States... Man! This girl is smart!
“Thanks to you Asha… Get ready cause someone might want to grill you too.” I smirked. “Can’t wait for you to spill the beans about your Superman doll collection.”
Asha gasped and her eyes widened even more than normal. “They are not 'dolls’. They are collectable figurines!”
“How about the life size one under your bed?” I curved an eyebrow and snickered inwardly.
“Don't you dare tell anyone about that! Especially my mom! Omygosh! How the heck did you know?” Asha spluttered, grabbing fistfuls of her endless hair.
“You forgot I authored you too, huh? Why is this hard for you to accept?” I pouted jokingly shaking my head.
“You can't tell anyone, Mo, do you hear me?!” she grumbled in her adorable little voice.
“Actually, I can. It's my story and I can do whatever I want.”
“You're not the boss of me, okay? Nobody is! Except my mama!” she waved a warning finger in my face.
“Hmm! We'll see… And I mean this in the most respectful way.” I bowed theatrically, an idea sparking in my head to prove my point. She had to accept the truth.
Yup! I know she's stubborn, but I'm stubborner!
“Ugh!” Asha huffed. She stomped her foot and walked away.
She's adorable, but she's giving me a really hard time. Oh well... she'll give in after the infamous update!
I walked back to my seat and adjusted my camera, while everyone sat down.
Mickey stepped closer to Melody with a shy smile. “Melody, can I hug you? I hope it's ok, but I don't want to bug you so… I don't know.”
Melody got up, her lips curved slightly. “Oh! Sure.”
The girls hugged and Mickey thanked Mel for being so sweet.
“Shall we continue, dear ones?” I asked, getting the camcorder ready. “One... Two... Three... Action!”
Melody leaned back in her chair, wrapping her arms around herself. She was trying to look comfortable, but I knew better.
Akram gave her an encouraging smile and her arms relaxed a little as she smiled back at him.
Mickey displayed her camera face and cleared her throat.
“What's your favorite ice cream flavor?” Mickey asked with a serious expression.
“Seriously, Mickey?” I scoffed.
“What, Mosta? You don't like my question?” Mickey glared at me and then crossed her eyes.
Mel chuckled softly with her hand over her mouth. “I like the question.”
“See? She likes it! I'm trying to keep it light here.” Mickey arched her eyebrows all the way up.
“Fine.” I sighed. “Sorry to interrupt.”
I guess Mickey has a point. Light questions to keep Mel at ease. She understands her anxiety too well.
“Um! My favorite flavor is Chocolate with Chocolate chips,” Mel answered and exchanged a sideways glance with Akram. He laughed and gave her thumbs up.
Ahhh! My children love Chocolate just like their parent!
“Does my ‘best friend’ most_bay scare you? Mosta tends to scare a lot of people, you know.” Mickey asked and stuck her tongue out at me.
“Wow! So you and Asha decided to pick on me today. Just Lovely!” I rolled my eyes from behind the camera. I had to focus on my job, but these girls are a handful.
Mickey ignored me and turned her attention to Melody, waiting for her answer.
“Nah... Most_ Bay is a nice person.” Melody's face turned a shade of pink. I grinned from ear to ear.
“Do you like sandals or do they make you uncomfortable?”
Ha! Mickey's still keeping it light!
“Well, I prefer not to wear them.” Mel bit her bottom lip. As if someone would criticize her for it.
"Because... you don't like to show your feet?”
“Uh! Yeah! Have you tried walking in sandals in New York City?” Mel grimaced.
“Ugh! I can imagine! OCD is a blessing!” Mickey obviously agreed.
Hmm! Interesting!
“Is Akram the first guy you've ever been attrac---.” Mickey broke off and exhaled. “Oh, fiddle sticks! Forget this one.”
Good girl! That was going to be awkward!
Melody looked around and squeezed her hands.
Mickey changed the question quickly. “Do you believe in a doppelgänger?”
“Uhm! You mean... in the paranormal sense? or like kindred spirits?” Mel inquired hesitantly, brushing the sides of her hair.
“I mean a real person who kinda looks and behaves exactly like you,” Mickey explained with overly enthusiastic hand waves.
“I… am not sure!” Mel placed a finger on her lips. “But... if she exists, I really hope she had a better life than mine.”
“Aw!” Mickey placed her palm close to her heart. “Would you believe me if I said you're my twin and we're the same person?”
“That’s nice of you, but... I'm pretty sure you're better than me,” Mel replied confidently, which was rare for her, except when it came to her view of her self-worth.
“See? I would've said the exact same thing!” Mickey squealed. “ This is just amazing! I'm so happy I've met my twin! Come here! I'm gonna hug you again.” Mickey jumped up with open arms and hugged Melody again. It was really sweet!
“Ahem! So this the end of the first interview with Mickey. Who's next in line?” I asked and paused my camera.
Rama raised her hand in the air.
“Excuse me.” Someone spoke from the other end of the tables.
“My name's Dr. Tejaswini. I'm a medical student from South india and a fan of most_bay... I have a question for the author because I have to leave soon.” The lovely girl with a traditional Saree stood up with a confident smile.
“Oh! Of course, doctor,” I said, smiling widely.
“The question is: when are you gonna update Melody?” The doctor smirked.
“Actually, I did... And you didn't comment.” I turned my mouth down.
She laughed quietly. "Sorry, I was too busy... I just have a few words for Mel.” She nodded and turned toward my favorite girl. “You are really strong dearie, continue being strong, don't lose hope. You can count me in for moral support. I wish you good luck.”
Melody mouthed a low 'thank you’ and her eyes teared up.
“As for Akram, you better continue taking care of Mel or else you gotta face my wrath.” Teju waved at Akram. “FYI, she's my best friend now.”
Akram beamed. “Don’t worry. She's the apple of my eye.”
Mel couldn't help smiling while applause echoed in the cafe. The doctor waved goodbye and left the building.
“Rama. Finish your milk, dear. You're next,” I said and she began to organize her papers for the next interview.
