Part #1

****

“WOOOO! I can't believe I'll be talking to Akram in person! ” Mickey sprang up and squealed, waving her arm dramatically.

Akram stared up with wide eyes. His mouth twitched, holding back laughter.

“Calm down, Mickey. We'll start in the order of questions in the comments,” I said and paused my camera, trying to stifle my laughter too.

“Yay! I made the first comment! OW!” Mickey danced and then bumped her hand clumsily against the edge of the table. “Dang! Flappit!” She blurted.

Akram pushed his chair back and asked, “hey, are you OK?”

“Be careful, bellezza!” I whined.

“I'll get you some ice,” Melody added. She was about to get up when Mickey's face turned beet red and she slumped back on her chair.

“Guys, I'm fine, I swear.” Mickey tittered in embarrassment.

Trying to soft-pedal the situation, I decided to get to the point. “Good then... Shall we start with the first question, Mickey?”

Akram adjusted his seat and clasped his hands on the table, Melody crossed her arms glancing at him, and everyone else went quiet.

I pressed the record button and signalled Mickey to start. Immediately, she collected herself and smiled for the camera… I mean, for Akram…

“So, um, Akram. When did you learn to play the piano?”

Akram smiled and scratched his eyebrow. He usually did that when he felt self-conscious. “Well… that was a long time ago.” He chuckled softly. “I was seven when I started my piano lessons.”

“Aw! You were so young! Was it difficult?” Mickey asked, apparently getting more comfortable.

“Everything is difficult at first, but... my mother supported me and I loved it, so it didn't seem so hard.” Akram shrugged.

“Oh, you're a natural, that's why. I sucked at it and eventually gave up.” Mickey made a face, squishing her lips together.

Mickey and her self-deprecation!

“The thing about piano is, it has to be your number one priority, because it takes years and years of practice.” Akram was being serious now when it came to his passion for the piano.

“Oh well! I have other priorities. Like cupcakes!” Mickey gave a short giggle. “Anywho. What's your favorite song to play?”

“That would be Moonlight Sonata. It took me a whole year to perfect it.” I noticed Akram’s fingers twitching. He probably wanted to be with his piano right now.

“Ahhh! That's amazing!” Mickey's eyebrows flew up.
Can you play other instruments?”

“Just the piano and the keyboard.”

“Can you sing?”

“Well…I ... uh!... not so well.” Akram fidgeted. His hand swooped down on his hair and he looked extremely uneasy.

“Oooooh! So you can!” Mickey exclaimed. “Will you sing for us? Pleeeeease!”

“Um!” Akram blushed and gave me a pleading side glance. Melody bowed her head down and smirked. It was supposed to be a secret he'd shared only with her.

Holding my camera to the side, I barged in. “Please, Mickey. Don't make my boy do something he's not comfortable with.”

“Oops! Sorry to bug you, Akram.” Mickey backed down, her cheeks flushed. She brought out a piece of paper and pored over it for a minute - most probably to hide her red face- before starting a new round of questions.

“Early bird or night owl?”

“Um! Both. Depends on the day.”

“Are you afraid of scary movies?

Akram laughed and shook his head. “No I'm not afraid of them. I just prefer musical or animation movies and maybe a bit of romantic comedy.”

“Do you have a sweet tooth?”

“Absolutely!”

“What's your favorite color?”

Akram turned casually to glance at Melody, who had not taken her eyes off of him as he spoke. He smiled at her for a brief second and turned back with the answer. “Sky blue.”

Hmm! Smooth, man!

~What’s your biggest fear?

Akram sighed and stared down at his hands . “Failure… and losing who I am. It's the worst thing imaginable.”

~Do you have any hidden talent?

“Uh! I wouldn't call it a talent per se,” Akram stroked his forehead. “I tried my hand at poetry, but I'm not that good though.”

“I'm sure you're much better than you think.“ Mickey winked and then blushed. She was talking too fast now,  going for light questions again.

~How tall are you?

“6 feet and 2 inches.” Akram narrowed his eyes in concentration. “About… 188 cm. I think.”

~What's your favorite color?

“You've already asked this,” I noted.

“Crap!” She did a facepalm. “Sorry. Hehe. My brain is sleepy today.”

“You're star-struck, dear.” I wiggled my eyebrows.

Mickey waved at me casually. “Yeah, Silly. I totally am! Now back to Akram.”

~What's your favorite genre of books?

“Please don't laugh.” He held his palm up, a grin playing on his face. “Children's books... Poetry comes second.”

I coughed to disguise a chuckle. Melody raised her brows in surprise.

Mickey just cooed. “Aww! That's amazing!”

I rolled my eyes. Obviously, she thought everything about Akram was ‘amazing’...

Oh well! She's right!… My boy is amazing!!

Mickey flipped the paper to the other side and began to pick at her hair and chew her lips. Her cheeks turned scarlet again. Something was making her anxious.

“So, Akram. I have a few more questions, but... I'm not sure you'll answer them.” Mickey began to look around nervously.

“Why is that?” Akram asked. He leaned forward, crossing his arms on the table.

“Ehh! They're a bit… personal.” Mickey smiled tightly, fanning her face with the sheet of paper.

Uh oh! What is she up to?!

“May I have a look?” He asked politely, extending his hand.

Mickey handed him the list of questions. He squinted for a moment, a hint of a smile passed across his lips. “All right, but… not the last one, please.”

Mickey exhaled in relief. “Sure!”

“Ahem! Guys. May I have a look too?” I requested. Curiosity was eating at me.

"Sure! You're the boss.” Mickey rolled her eyes and handed me the list.

I poked my glasses and quickly skimmed across the questions. The last question definitely stood out as a big no-no 'is it true you're in love with Melody?’ it said.

“Oh boy!” I murmured.

“Sorry!” Mickey mouthed, stretching her lips tightly.

“Go on, please,” Akram urged.

Mickey nodded quickly and continued. "have you ever been hit on by a girl?"

Akram squeezed his eyes shut for a second and grimaced. “Yes.”

Ugh! Poor guy! He'll never get used to this.

"Have you had a crush on a girl before?"

“Yeah.” He scrunched up his nose humorously. “I had a crush on an actress when I was eleven.”

"What was the first thing you noticed about Melody?"

Akram sighed deeply. He grinned and turned his face to watch a blushing Melody, biting on her thumb and staring at the table.

“Her eyes,” Akram replied softly.

“Awww!” The audience went in unison and Melody just hid her face and curled up pretending she didn't exist.

Poor Melody! I can't believe these two are living in this world!

“CUT!!” I yelled and put down the camera. “I need a coffee break!”

Akram’s shoulders relaxed. “Yes, please!” He grabbed his cold coffee and drank it all in one gulp.

Boy, he's tense!

“But I still have questions for Melody,” Mickey whined.

“What?! Me too? I thought...” Melody choked and placed a hand on her neck. Her sky blue eyes went round and she seemed appalled by the idea.

“It's OK, Mel.” Akram touched the back of her hand gently. “You can do it... I'll be here beside you.”

Melody sighed and nodded in Resignation.

I smirked...

I couldn't blame her. Akram was really persuasive.
