Cuttack
Cuttack, the twin of Bhubaneswar as referred to. It used to be the old capital of Odisha. Cuttack is famous for several things like its silver works, Durga puja and chandi medha, Maa Chandi temple, hogh court, its markets, etc.
It is situated on the banks of River Mahanadi and the second largest city of Odisha.
I don't have much memories with Cuttack but there are some that I will always preserve.
When I was younger, my family used to drive by the car to Bbsr so Cuttack was always on the route.
I remember eagerly waiting to see the waters of River Mahanadi, I still do that. Its even more fun by the train as you can see clearly water beneath you. The feeling of excitement yet fear is amazing. And if you travel by train, you don't need to stop by the side of the road and get out of car to look the view. It is thrilling to hear the sound and feel the vibration of train travelling on the bridge and the cold wind blowing.
But if you go by the car, you can enjoy the Naraj Anikat bridge and the super tasty Dahi badas selling nearby. I remember when we were on our way to Bbsr from my hometown for my brother's engagement, we bacha party(children) were in one car. Our parent's were following us in another. My brother whose engagement it was saw Dahi badas and was eager to eat it. But then I reminded him that he couldn't do so as there was going to be a puja for the ring ceremony and he could not eat onions before that. It is in our culture. His face was to look at, sad. He is working in other state so he didn't get the chance to eat everyday these special badas.
Also how can I forget the humble abode of Maa Chandi. It is a famous and peaceful temple in the town Cuttack. One look at Maa's face and you will be mesmerised to find the beauty and devotion in the idol.
Cuttack becomes spectacular during Durga puja. You will be amazed to see the works of talented artist. The Idol of Maa itself is beauty but when adorned with the silver jwelleries and crafts its amazing. Lots of people gather to see this beauty and the whole town is shining with colourful lights and music. And don't forget the food stalls ;)
I know you must have guessed I am a foody.
Cuttack is also related to me as my mother's uncle lives there. I used to enjoy going there because of their immense amount of pets they kept, starting from fish to birds to dogs and what more.
Whenever we visited, my cousin and I would cry to take one puppy with us but sadly our mothers wouldn't allow.
But after lots of begging I finally got an aquarium and I love it.
I wish I could go back to my childhood days. It's not like I am a very old person but being from five was more innocent than being eighteen. But I don't regret it cause I have lots of memories to cherish for.
So thats it for today, till then Stay tuned to An Insider to India.
And if possible take the next flight to Odisha :)
