Step into the Fog

A/N: I would recommend putting the song on loop since it's short.

Soon the fog surrounded you, preventing you from seeing Hannah, though her voice still rang down the street. You wanted to wake up and escape this place, so you tried pinching yourself, but again nothing happened. Why couldn't you wake up? This place was within your own mind, so you should be able to control your ability to wake up, yet you lacked all authority.

Hannah's frightening voice sounded closer, interrupting your attempts to wake yourself up. Glancing around you, you tried to search for any building structure. When you caught sight of a gas station, you ran for it. Maybe there would be something that could help you defend against Hannah. You didn't want to attack her, but she was leaving you very little choice.

Reaching the doors of the gas station, you pulled them open. Just as you slammed them shut, you saw Hannah emerge from the fog. She wore a wicked grin, but what disturbed you more was the fact that her head seemed rather loose. It leaned side to side at impossible angles and it made you sick. Quickly you locked the doors before you turned around and pulled whatever objects were near and barred the doors. Banging on the door, Hannah continued to smile.

"Oh _____, I only want to take you to Annalisa's house. Don't you want to go and stay there forever? We can have tea everyday. Oh, please come out ____".

Getting more and more disturbed by the second, you backed away before proceeding to the back room. You noticed the back door and quickly locked it before barring it as well. Soon you heard banging on the back door. Hannah's voice sounded on the other side. At the current moment you didn't need a weapon due to both doors being blocked. Glad that you had thoroughly barricaded the door, you went back into the main part of the store and tried to figure out what to do. This opportunity was not allowed to you though, because of a loud smashing sound that came from the back room. Turning around, you saw Hannah standing in the doorway.

"You can't keep me away for long _____. Now let's go visit Annalisa."

"No, now leave me alone. This is my mind and I won't let a nightmare taint the image of my friends."

"But I'm more than a nightmare _____ and soon your mind will be mine," Hannah stated, her eyes now changing to an all too familiar color.

Pale green orbs stared back at you. Feeling your body freeze in place, you looked back at Hannah, or rather the person who was trying to contact you from before. Knowing this, you scanned the store for anything. The closest object to you was a rack with sunglasses on it. Glancing between the green eyed individual, the rack and the windows, you knew that your only way of escape would be to jump out the windows. There would be no time to move the objects that were now in front of the doors; the person would probably strike you before you could even move one of the shelves filled with candy. As they walked towards you another option came into mind. They had formed a hole in the door in the backroom; you could escape through that.

With this idea sounding better than trying to break the windows, you knocked down the sunglasses rack and ran around one of the small aisles. The green-eyed individual went to grab for you, but missed, allowing you to reach the backroom. Seeing a large hole in the door and the furniture that was barricading the door broken to pieces, you jumped through the hole. Back out in the foggy environment, you went back onto the street, since a ten foot wall stood at the back of the gas station. Not being able to see too far in front of you, you just ran down the road. You didn't dare look back, but you knew that the green-eyed individual was following you. This was made clear when you heard someone running behind you.

You couldn't increase your pace anymore and your legs begged you to stop, though you kept going, wanting to somehow get away. Your movement was stopped however, due to someone latching onto your left leg. Falling forward, you collided with the road hard. It felt like your whole face was broken and you carefully brought your sore arm up to your face. Feeling that nothing was broken, you became concerned with the fact that someone was now turning you over onto your back.

Smiling down at you was the green-eyed individual, who no longer disguised themselves as Hannah. Instead they were merely a figure cloaked in shadow, so as to hide their identity. Their pale green eyes gleamed in delight at catching you while their hands pinned you to the road.

Struggling under them, you exclaimed, "What do you want?"

"I want your mind; I want to control you."

"Like I'm going to let you do that," you stated defiantly, managing to break free your right arm from their grip.

Not wasting anytime, you punched them in the face. The impact caused them to release you, allowing you to get up and dart down the road. By this point you were exhausted and you desired to collapse, but you couldn't for otherwise they would catch you again. As you ran down the barren street, you saw that the road around you was starting to fade. Close behind you was the green-eyed individual, who was now cursing loudly.

Hearing, "No my time is running out," you assumed that they could only tap into your dreams for so long.

This gave you hope. Thus you pressed onward down the road, as more pieces started to crumble away. The green-eyed individual now ran at you rapidly, closing the distance between you two. Before they could grab, you saw the road just in front of you disappear. Noticing this, you jumped, falling into the endless pool of swirling fog that lay below. You felt like jelly, as your limbs swayed in the air. Slowly the fog began to disappear, changing into a sea of darkness. As the darkness grew, you saw the pale green eyes glowing with frustration. They were the last thing you saw before you felt yourself bolt upright in the greyish-teal sheets of your bed in Lucian's mansion.

Beads of sweat formed at the top of your forehead and your breathing was at a faster pace than usual. Taking in your surroundings, you breathed a sigh of relief, seeing that you were back at the mansion. You never thought you would be so happy to see this room. In comparison to that dream world this room was a wonderful safe-haven, though you questioned as to how Lucian brought you here. He couldn't cross the barrier, yet here you were back in your room, unless this was another dream. Paling at the possibility, you quickly scanned the room for any pale green eyes. Seeing none, you relaxed again and leaned back against the pillows and bed frame, however you jumped when the door opened. Instantly you thought that the green-eyed individual had returned, but when you saw Lucian, you calmed a bit.

His purple eyes landed on you and they widened in overwhelming relief. Before you could react, he quickly closed the distance between you two, grabbing your chin in the process and pressing his lips against yours. Now it was time for your eyes to widen, as an increasing blush graced your cheeks. The kiss was filled with passion and longing, as though you had been gone for quite some time. He pulled away before you could push him away and rested his forehead against your own.

"I thought you would never wake up, my pet," he whispered, his voice slightly shaky, as though he was about to cry.

You didn't know how to reply and so you stated, "I wasn't asleep for that long".

"How wrong you are. You were asleep for now nine days."

Hearing his response froze you. You were asleep for that long. It only felt like you had been asleep for a couple of hours maybe. While you thought this over, Lucian stepped away from you and went to the other side of the bed. Once on the other side of the bed, he pulled you over to him and wrapped his arms around you. This action broke your thinking, as you felt the tint on your cheeks increase.

"Lucian, you know I would rather be lying on my bed by myself," you uttered, even though you slightly enjoyed his contact with you, since that dream still freaked you out.

"And why would I do that? You left me sick with worry, my pet. For now, I intend to keep a firm grasp on you."

Sighing, you glanced to the side before remembering a question you had, making you ask, "Lucian how did you get me out of the canyon? I thought you couldn't pass through the barrier."

"It collapsed. In fact the entire canyon fell apart. I got you out just in time, which leads me to ask what exactly hap..."

He stopped short and stared at your wrist where the bracelet was. Instantly he brought your wrist closer to his face, which caused your arm to be raised in an uncomfortable position.

"My pet, tell me, did you have another dream?"

"Yes," you stated, trying to hide the fear in your voice, since the memory of the dream frightened you a bit.

Lucian quickly noticed the emotion present within your voice. Anger filled him, since he had failed at protecting you from the individual. He at first doubted that the person would contact you again anytime soon, though he was proved wrong. Carefully, he set your wrist back onto your lap, making you more comfortable.

In a soft voice, he stated, "Please tell me every detail. I know you may not want to recount the dream, but I must know. It might give me insight into who this individual is."

Surprised at his tone, since you assumed he would be fuming at this moment due to finding out that you had been contacted again by the mysterious pale green-eyed individual, you nodded. Thus you recounted the dream, having to stop at times due to remembering the nightmarish version of Hannah. When you finished, you glanced up at Lucian, who was in deep thought. Did he figure out who the person was?

"My pet, tomorrow we're going to take a small trip."
