Cards in the Small Room

A/N: As usual, I would recommend putting the video on loop.

When morning came, you found yourself slowly opening your eyelids before quickly closing them due to the bright light from the sun peeping through the thick grey clouds outside. Moving around a bit, you tried to open your eyes once more and this time saw Lucian staring down at you. Almost immediately you remembered him putting you to sleep last night and felt a blush creep onto your face.

"Good morning, my pet. I take it you slept well."

"Yeah," you said, looking to the side, trying to hide your slightly pink cheeks.

"Good, well now that you're up I must attend to the outside barriers."

He moved you off of his lap before standing up and walking towards the door of the study.

"Lucian shouldn't you get some sleep?" you questioned, noticing his tired eyes.

"I will once I'm finished with the barriers."

After saying this, he left the room but not before summoning Nafera. With Lucian now gone, you leaned back into the couch as Nafera walked over to you. "Would you like any breakfast?"

"Hmm, I'm not hungry at the moment, but some coffee would be nice. Anyway Nafera, I have a question what do you do when you're not cleaning the mansion?" you questioned, genuinely wanting to know what the doll did in her spare time.

"What do you mean? There hasn't been a time when I'm not cleaning the mansion, or watching the perimeters for any sign of trouble."

"Well, don't you have free time, don't you need to sleep?"

"I'm a doll; why would I need sleep, and what's free time?"

Well it did make sense that she wouldn't need sleep, since she was a doll, but you were surprised to find out that she never heard of the concept of free time. Did Lucian really work her day and night with no break?

"Well it's time where you have nothing to do, or rather time that is just for you."

"Strange, though, why are you asking me these questions?"

"I was curious, and I have nothing to do for the remainder of the day. I could read, but I don't feel like it. That's it, I have an idea. Nafera has there ever been anything that you've wanted to try, but haven't been able to due to your work schedule?".

"Hmm, well there is one thing. There's these objects that come in a box and I believe they have different numbers and characters on them like king, queen, jack, etc."

"You want to play cards?"

"Yes, I believe that's what they're called, though I have no time for such a thing. I need to make your coffee and attend to my other duties."

"Hmm, I'll help you make the coffee and then we can play cards. You're taking a break today and don't try to argue with me."

"But ..."

"I'm not accepting any excuses. Now, come on," you stated, as you grabbed Nafera's wrist and began to take her out of the study.

She was a little resistant at first to the idea, but eventually gave in. Having reached the kitchen, Nafera went over to a small table on the left side of the room where a jar of ground coffee beans sat. Grabbing a tea kettle from another table, you handed it to her before she began to place some of the grounded beans in the kettle. After adding some water, she closed the kettle and set it over one of the fire pits in the room. Lighting the fire, the coffee began to heat up. As the coffee was heating, you looked around the room for any teacups. Seeing a wooden door on the left side of the room, you opened it up to see shelves filled with high quality dishware. Picking out a simple silver tray and two pale pink bone china teacups detailed with small gold roses, you set the dishes on the table in the center of the room.

Nafera grabbed a jar of sugar and retrieved some crème from the far right corner in the room, which was essentially the refrigerator/ freezer portion of the room. Instead of an appliance, there was a room made entirely out of ice, which never melted, with one side being less cool than the other, so that items like the crème didn't freeze over. Soon the coffee was finished and Nafera took it off the fire and placed it on the tray. Picking the tray up with all the items on it, she looked at you, waiting to hear where you wanted to go.

"Do you have a place where you want to go Nafera?"

"Well, I suppose I have a place in mind, it's rather simple, but I like it there."

Signaling for her to take you there, she nodded and began to walk off in the direction of where she wanted to go. Heading up the stairs, Nafera walked almost to the end of the hallway before stopping in front of a simple teal colored wooden door with a silver handle. Seeing that her hands were full, you opened the door for her and allowed her in first. She thanked you before she entered. Going into the room yourself, you gazed upon the setting of the space.

It was a rather small room, fitting only a fireplace and a round table. The fireplace was a plain dark wood, which had a mantel with no decorations, while it sat on beige tiles. Two tall rectangular windows let in the light while white chiffon fabric covered the windows and dark pinkish-brown curtains covered the chiffon fabric partially. A rich green carpet lay out over the ground while a wooden paneled ceiling was colored with the same green. In the center of the ceiling a crystal chandelier hung, which illuminated the room further. As for the round table, it had a crimson red tablecloth as well as two plain crème colored candles and a small round porcelain plate on top of it. Six dark wooden chairs sat around the table with cushions the same coloration as the curtains that covered the chiffon fabric. On the far left corner of the room was a bulletin board with various pictures on it, however these pictures were faded beyond repair and you couldn't determine the scenery in each picture.

Setting the tray on the table, Nafera pulled out a chair for you to sit in. Closing the door behind you, you thanked her and sat down, as she went over to the fireplace and opened a small drawer in the mantel. She pulled out a simple deck of cards, closed the drawer and took a chair across from you. After she placed the deck on the table, she poured the coffee and added crème as well as sugar to each cup, handing you one of the teacups.

"Thanks, so what card game did you want to play?"

"Hmm, I believe it's called War, though you'll have to tell me how to play, since I've only heard of the game."

"Alright, it's a really simple game, but can take a awhile to finish."

Nodding in response, she listened to the instructions and understood the game easily. Thus the two of you began to play, as you sipped at your coffee. You found it funny at how serious Nafera was. She was extremely concentrated and would furrow her brows in frustration when she lost a round. Furthermore, you could see the faintest sign of happiness in her eyes when she won a round. For most of the game, the two of you were equal in the amount of cards you each had. It wasn't until the coffee ran out that Nafera was starting to get more cards than you, though by this time the two of you agreed on taking a break.

"I believe it's time to get something else to drink."

"Agreed, but Nafera umm ... well since you're a doll I never expected you to drink anything to be honest."

"Well, I don't require the needs that my master and you require, but I can still eat and drink if I want to. My body functions almost in the same way as yours, just that all of your necessities become merely options for me."

"Hmm, that's interesting. Shall we get that coffee then?"

"Yes."

With that, the two of you walked out of the room and headed to the kitchen with the tray of dishes in Nafera's hands. By now it was twelve in the afternoon and you found your stomach growling slightly. Nafera noticed and mentioned that she would make some sandwiches. When the two of you reached the dining room, you were both surprised to see Lucian sleeping in his chair at the end of the table. Walking over to him, you figured that he must have been hungry, but fell asleep before he could eat anything.

"Miss ____, do you mind waiting here while I move my master up to his room. He shouldn't be sleeping in the dining room."

"Yeah, I'll wait" you stated while taking the tray from Nafera.

Nafera draped Lucian's left arm over her shoulders and took him up to his room. When she returned, she helped you make peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. Putting them on the same tray from before, since you took off the previous dishes, you added two glasses of ice cold water and made your way back up to the room. Reaching the room, you two ate and continued your game of cards.
