"You cannot change someone who does not see an issue with their with their actions." ~ anonymous

Lady Lorraine was indeed a perfect candidate. She held herself in an upright stature and did all that was asked of her. All questions thrown her way were answered with impressive intellect. Both the king and the young prince felt she was the right one, in fact all the higher ups did. Alas, there was but one who saw through her.

As the saying all good things come and go, so did Lady Lorraine's perfect attitude. She grew too comfortable with the new life she lead and didn't think it was possible for it to be temporary. She demanded new jewelry and requested gowns from only the finest material. She ordered around servants in the castle as if she had power over them, when in fact she held no significant power at all and she disrespected the crown prince time and time again believing she held equal status to him.

Enough was enough and the crown prince had her removed as queen regent. Clearly finding the right queen who obeyed the rules and showed respect when necessary, could not be found in this kingdom.

"So you finally came to your senses," the first princess stated behind her brother with a coy smile.

Standing at his favourite spot on the balcony, the crown prince didn't bother to turn his head to his cunning sister.

"You knew all this time that something was wrong and still you said nothing?" He asked in a sharp tone.

"Well, last I checked princesses who hold no position in leading the kingdom are not supposed to interfere with decision making," she said tilting her head to the side.

"Of course you would watch my own embarrassment from afar rather than prevent it Trina," he said tiredly from all the recent events.

Princess Trina looked at her exhausted twin and realised that all this trouble could have been avoided if she said something. She began to feel the waters of guilt washing over her.

"What are you and father to do now?" She queried softly.

"Right now, I believe, it is up to the councilmen,"

Indeed it was. The councilmen held a meeting together with the king and the crown prince to determine the future of a queen regent.

"The councilmen have reached the verdict that we shall host royal selection," declared the chairman. "All noble girls who are eligible are to come to the palace in a month's time to determine whether or not they are to be the future queen."

Letters where sent out to each and every noble family in the kingdom that had daughters. All girls between the age of consent and the age of adulthood were to participate in the royal selection.

"Father! Father! A letter has just come from the royal capital!" Young lord Andre of house Sky called out.

"What does it say my son?" Asked his father who sat at a round table with his wife and his three daughters.

The boy of a decade and eight years broke the seal of the letter and read the writing.

"It says that there will be a royal selection in a month's time for the position of queen regent," he said.

"I thought Lady Lorraine was the current queen regent?" Asked Ally, the youngest of them all.

"It says that she was, but was forced to be removed from her position due to difficulty in decision making," her brother read out loud.

"I bet they wrote that down to cover up what she really did," Elle coyly said glancing at her younger sister. Dakota let out a short laugh at her sister's antics and shook her head.

"Now now girls, please be polite about a situation that does not involve you," their mother chastised.

"Yes mama," the said respectfully, remembering to take her words to heart.

"What are their terms son?"Lord Xavier, his father asked.

His son swallowed harshly. "All girls must come from a noble family and she must be between the age of consent and the age of adulthood."

Everyone in the room sat silently, slowly taking in the blow of those words.

"What?! That means Dakota must go alone!" Ally exclaimed.

It was quite the predicament as young Lady Ally was still a year too young to go and Elle was already two years too old.

Lady Dakota was the only one eligible to go.

She looked at her twin brother and saw the heartbreak in his eyes, he did not want her to leave, no one did.

"Do not worry so much brother, the chances of I ever being chosen are rather slim," she comforted.

"Agreed, I don't think anyone can handle your bold bluntness," Ally teased.

"I am not blunt!" Dakota denied and her family laughed. That reaction allowed a smile to blossom on her face.

But across the table sat a wise mother, a mother who held the truth in her eyes.
