Chapter 46 - Zoinks!
It was when the Party Pizzas and Tots were cooked that the elephant in the room was brought up after Caroline had gasped at the bags under Bonnie's eyes when she helped her remove the face mask, so while they shared Pizza's and dipped Tots in ketchup Bonnie thoroughly explained what had happened the past week until this morning.
"...and then, I ended up at the remains of the old Fell's church before I woke up back in the woods."
Elena's eyes were wide as she took hold of Bonnie's hand, "Oh my god, Bonnie! Why didn't you tell any of us you were going through this."
Bonnie shrugged, guilt was written all over her face, "I thought I could deal with it... until today. Luckily Aella had a vision and found me in the woods with Stefan."
"Yeah, luckily," Elena nodded, "But what if Aella doesn't have a vision next time? Is that why you threw the necklace away."
Aella nearly choked on her Tot, Caroline quick to pat her back, "You did what? That was Emily's! It's an heirloom, haunted or not!"
"Well, I would have done the same," Caroline shrugged once Aella's coughing had stopped. "That was an ugly-ass necklace."
Aella glared pointedly at her best friend, "Not the point, Caroline!" She then turned to Bonnie, confused, "But wait... if you threw it away, how the hell is it around your neck?"
"I have no idea," Bonnie sighed heavily. "But when I opened my purse, it was there, and I felt like I had to put it back on."
Elena, quick to back her best friend, nodded, "She's telling the truth, I saw her throw it."
"Well, that's one relief," Aella calmed but eyes wide. "Can you imagine Grams when you told her you threw the only thing of Emily's we have except her grimoire?"
Bonnie scowled at Aella, "Yeah, well, Grams isn't the one being haunted by a hundred and fifty-year-old ghost, is she?"
Caroline sensing the mood changing put forward her own thoughtless idea that had Bonnie wondering if it would work, "Maybe you should contact Emily instead of waiting for her?"
"No," Aella pointed at Caroline then to Bonnie. "No. I know that look, Bonnie... as crazy as I am even I know how bad it is to contact the dead without proper guidance." Aella's phone rang, and when she saw Stefan's image on the screen, she jumped off her seat to answer it, but not before pointing at Bonnie once more, "Do not think about doing this."
"Save me!"
Stefan's husky voice echoed into her ear, "I was about to say the same thing."
Aella snorted, leaning against the arm of the couch, "How can you need saving, traitor? How's Once Upon a Time? What episode are you up to?"
"You didn't think I'd really watch our show without you, would you?" Stefan smirked leaned against the school bleachers outside. "I actually tried watching IT Crowd since you love it so much..."
Aella laughed into her phone and then adopted Chris O'Dowd's accent, "'People... What a bunch of bastards'... classic!"
Stefan laughed at her impressive Irish impression, "It's pretty good, I can see why you like it. So it sounds like things aren't going too well on your end."
"That's the statement of the century," Aella snorted and quickly gave Stefan the cliff notes of Bonnie's reveal/confession.
Stefan raised his brow once Aella had finished, looking around the field for his brother, "Well that explains Damon's sudden need to bond once I told him all you girls were having a sleepover, and he didn't have a smarmy comment to add to it."
"He needs something." Aella summarized and could practically see Stefan nodded in agreement.
"Which is why halfway through the first season, Damon dragged me to the Grill deciding we needed to go and play pool, and now I'm standing next to the football field waiting for him to find a football so we can play catch," Stefan explained wondering what the hell was taking Damon so long.
Aella snorted, "That's why you needed to be saved too! Have you found out anything?"
"Not yet," Stefan nodded but started to hear his brother's footsteps returning. "But I have an advantage now I know about Bonnie having the necklace, he's coming back, I'll speak to you later. Love you."
"Love you too," Aella responded quickly before Stefan ended the call, and wondered if she would have a boyfriend at the end of the night considering Damon's history. She pocketed her phone and returned to the kitchen only to be met with an empty room, confused she listened out for her friends only to hear them climbing the stairs.
Running to the stairs, Aella caught the three girls on the stairs, each looking very suspicious in their own way, especially Bonnie, who seemed to speed up the stairs once Aella's brunette head came into sight. "What are we doing now?"
Caroline and Elena glanced at each other with wide eyes as Bonnie disappeared from view, Aella knew something was right and ran up the stairs to meet them head-on, "What are-" realizing she wasn't exactly head-on with the both of them, even being on the same stair, Aella ran up two more stairs and smirked that she was taller, and hopefully, more threatening... especially with her arms crossed. "-What is going on?"
Both girls not used to a serious Aella cracked immediately:"-Bonnie's doing a séance.""-We're going to have a séance."
Aella's eyes widened and her mouth dropped open, "What! No, no, no!" She spun on the stair and ran to Elena's bedroom, knowing that's where Bonnie would conduct the séance. "No way! Didn't we just have this conversation?"
Elena and Caroline followed Aella into the room, and Elena sighed at the seriousness of Aella's tone, "I agree."
Bonnie looked up, pleading with her eyes, at her cousin, "I need to know what she wants, please A, when do you I ask you for anything?"
"Please don't look at me that way, Bonnie," Aella whined. "This is serious shit."
"I have to know A," Bonnie desperately pled. "I can't even get away from her by throwing the necklace away, what else can I do?"
Aella pouted while she bounced on the spot hoping to come up with something else that could help Bonnie, and cried out when she couldn't think of anything, she looked to Elena and Caroline grumpily, "Some help you two are..." She looked to Bonnie, "Fine. I hate those puppy dog eyes."
Bonnie wanted to cry out, but instead smirked at her cousin, "Where do you think I learned them?"
Caroline smiled at the two, "Come on. Let's summon some spirits." She looked to Elena, "E, go get the candles from A's bedroom. B, clear the floor. And A-" She looked to Aella, who was biting her lip with worry, "-stop worrying, you'll get frown lines." She wiped her clean hands together and smirked at the girls, "This Emily chick has some serious explaining to do."
Soon the candles were lit, and Caroline waited for the three girls to sit down before she switched off the main light, "What are we doing?" Aella started freaking out. "This is in Witches 101... contacting dead is a bad, bad thing!"
Caroline raised her brow at her best friend, "There's a Witches 101?"
"No, Caroline, I was being sarcastic!"
Elena took hold of Aella's hand from the floor and squeezed it, "A, calm down; as long as you're here, I know we'll be safe."
Aella squeezed Elena's hand back in gratitude and sat crossed-legged on the floor, but her fears still didn't dissipate, and even jumped when Caroline switched the lights off and took her own position crossed-legged between Aella and Bonnie.
The girls closed their eyes, and somehow, the least knowledgeable of witchcraft, Caroline, took over the séance, "Be quiet and concentrate... Now take a deep breath. Bonnie. Call to her."
Aella opened one eye and turned to Caroline, "How is Caroline running this show? She's not even a witch."
"Shush," the blonde replied, and Aella closed her eye again, silently mimicking her friend.
Bonnie readied herself before calling out, "Emily, you there?"
Caroline's own eyes opened as asked Bonnie in a deadpan voice, "Really? 'Emily, you there?' That's all you got? Come on."
Aella scowled at her best friend, "Oh my god, Caroline! If this works, I'm gonna hit you so hard, when you wake up your clothes are gonna be out of style."
Caroline waved off her best friend, "Stop freaking out Aella, nothing is going to happen, now Bonnie..."
"Fine, geez," Bonnie groaned and shook her body, ready again, "Emily. I call on you. I know you have a message. I'm here to listen."
The candles immediately flared stronger, and the girls jumped in their spots, all of their eyes wide open at the action.
Elena gulped, "Did that just..."
"Yeah, it just happened," Aella nodded forcefully. "We are stopping this right now!"
"It's just the air conditioning," Bonnie falsely reasoned with her cousin, she couldn't stop this now she had a reaction, even if she was scared.
Caroline went along with the moment, "Ask her to show you a sign. Ask her..." When Bonnie didn't ask Caroline decided to, "Emily, if you're among us, show us another sign."
They waited a moment, but nothing happened, a fact that had all of the girls sighing in relief, especially Aella.
Bonnie tried to act no different and shrugged at the girls, "See? It's not working."
Aella sighed heavily in relief, "Oh, thank God!"
The windows then burst open, scaring the girls causing them to scream out, and Bonnie to stand, her bravery in pieces, "I can't, I'm done."
Bonnie ripped the necklace off and threw it on the ground next to the candles, which blew out, scaring her and the girls even more, "Get the light. Please, get the light!"
Elena was quick to run to the light switch in her bedroom, "Hold on. I got it."
The light came on, and before Aella, who's eyes were now closed firmly again, could freak out that they were done or she was calling Grams, Bonnie gasped, "You guys, the necklace. It's gone."
Aella's eyes sprung open and looked down to where Bonnie had thrown the necklace, only to see with her own eyes that it was missing, "Zoinks!"
............................................................................................
Elena turned on Caroline and Aella immediately, "Okay, fun's over, you two. Ha Ha, jokes at the sleepover, I get it. Now give it back."
Aella was shocked at the accusation, while Caroline was quick to get Elena to realize the truth, "What? We didn't do this!"
Aella, still full of witchy worry, shook her head, "Us meddling kids haven't been messing around here, E... Not with all this bad juju."
Elena seemed convinced and turned her accusations on Matt, Jeremy, Stefan, and Tyler, "Well then, this has to be the boys pranking us again." She walked out into the hall to check for her friends and brother, "Jeremy, are you home?"
"Elena, they wouldn't have been able to make up something like this," Aella walked up to her when no response came. "Let's just go downstairs and watch another movie."
Caroline nodded quickly, "I like that idea. We can watch Prince and Me, it could actually happen to us... and Prince Harry is single again."
Bonnie was about to agree when she saw the crystal on the floor in the bathroom, "Guys..." She walked into the bathroom and picked up the necklace when the door slammed shut. "You guys open the door!" Aella and Elena's head turned to the noise and ran to the bathroom door, where Caroline was already pulling at the doorknob. "Help me!"
"Bonnie!" Elena exclaimed as they banged on the door frantically, Bonnie's screams getting louder the longer she was in the bathroom.
Aella's level-headedness came to her as soon as she felt her cousin was in danger. Desperately, she tried to get her cousin to do anything other than scream, "What's going on in there, Bonnie?"
But Bonnie continued to scream as Caroline called out her friends name in fear, "Bonnie!"
Stepping away, Aella held up her hand and looked to her friends, "Back up."
Aella tried to use her magic to force open the door, but there was a force against it she had not felt before. She tried again, yet nothing worked.
Elena turned to Caroline, "Try the other door."
Caroline ran to the other door as Aella frustratedly banged on the bathroom door, trying to force it open, "Is this what it feels to be mortal?!"
Elena shouted by her side as the lights in the house flickered on and off, "Bonnie! Open the door!"
Click
Aella and Elena stopped as the door opened itself, Caroline running into the room at the silence just to see Bonnie standing in the lit bathroom, head in hands as she whimpered. Elena stepped into the bathroom, and all the girls failed to notice the necklace around Bonnie's neck again, "What happened? Are you okay?"
Bonnie's head raised up, and gone was the fear, replaced with an indifference look... a look that had Aella feel something was not right, "Bon, you okay?"
"I'm fine," was the wooden response, a response that now made Aella very suspicious.
Stepping into the bathroom, she ignored Caroline as she blamed Elena and Bonnie for making up the whole séance thing, and rigging the windows and Air Con to prank her and Aella. If it weren't for the blank stare that Bonnie sent her while Caroline ranted, Aella would have laughed, but she knew something wasn't right with her cousin, and as she stepped closer to her, Bonnie stepped away and rounded herself so Aella was now in the bathroom and Bonnie was stood at the door.
Elena went after Caroline, while Aella and Bonnie had a stare-off until Bonnie turned to leave the bathroom, and Aella's eyes caught a glimpse of a white cap on the reflection of Bonnie in the large bathroom mirror. Following after her cousin, she was stopped in the hallway where Caroline and Elena were still arguing about the prank.
"Bonnie?"
Bonnie simply glanced back at Aella, then started making her way down the stairs as she replied to her cousin, "I'm fine, Aella. Everything's fine."
Caroline's rant stopped at Bonnie's words, Elena now felt something was wrong and turned to the stair to halt Bonnie but was interrupted herself by Aella, "Wait, E. Something's not right."
Elena looked to Aella, confused, "Yeah, the boys pranked us. I can't believe we fell for it."
"It wasn't a prank, Elena," Caroline frowned. "Something happened."
Aella nodded to Elena, "She's right, E, you two stay here."
Aella made it down two stairs before Caroline grabbed her best friend's arm and spun her back around, "Wait! What's going on, you have your serious face look?"
Aella only pulled away, "Stay here." She ran down the stairs where Bonnie was opening the door, Caroline, and Elena's shouts for her to stop ignored, both girls now fully realizing this was not a prank, and something serious was really happening.
"Bonnie wait," Aella pushed the door shut and smiled forcefully at her cousin.
But Bonnie wasn't having it at all and opened the door again, "I must go."
Aella closed the door, her laugh forced, "We're just about to watch another movie."
"Thank you for having me," Bonnie opened the door a third time, with a little more force, and her voice now stronger. "I'll take it from here."
Aella now knew this wasn't her cousin and used her magic to force the door shut and stand in front of it, "Don't you mean Emily? Where are you taking her, Emily? Take me instead."
Bonnie/Emily moved back to create some space between her and Aella, her posture changing now she had been identified, "Back to where it all began, Bonnie is expendable you are not."
Aella scowled at the ghost inhabiting her cousin's body, "Well, I'm not going to let you take her, even if you are family!"
"I won't let him have it," Bonnie/Emily declared as Aella moved towards her. "It must be destroyed."
Aella went to grab Bonnie, to do what she had no clue, she had to stop Bonnie/Emily from leaving this house. Unfortunately, she underestimated that her ancestor still had her powers, and with a flick of her free wrist, Aella was sent flying past Bonnie/Emily and landed heavily in the kitchen, sliding back into the kitchen cupboards, the screams of Elena, and Caroline echoing through her blurred mind.
Caroline ran down the stairs with Elena following, mind only on her best friend, as Bonnie/Emily left the house. Caroline slid down on her knees as she reached Aella, who struggled to sit up, groaning at the pain she felt, "If this is what it feels like to be mortal... then I hate it."
Elena and Caroline helped her up, Elena looking to where her best friend left feeling only fear, "What the hell is happening to Bonnie?"
Caroline shook her head as Aella checked on the burn she had developed on her arm from the wooden floor, "That's not Bonnie."
"What!" Elena exclaimed, "How the hell do you know that?"
Caroline tutted, almost offended that Elena hadn't detected what she had caught, while Aella stormed to the front door, "Because she called her Aella, duh! Bonnie never calls her by her full name."
Aella tried to open the door, but it wouldn't budge, as Caroline asked the obvious, "What's happening?"
Aella pulled the door handle with all her might, "She's spelled the door shut."
"Well, unspell it!" Elena cried. This was not how tonight was supposed to go.
Aella only tried pulling again, "Our magics are different, I can't."
"That's ridiculous," Elena scoffed, and pushed Aella away to try and open it herself, but found she couldn't.
Elena let go when suddenly the door flung open, and Jeremy walked in, causing Elena to scream and make Jeremy very confused, "What the hell?"
Aella didn't waste time and held the door from closing, in case the door magically sealed itself when it closed, she looked to Jeremy and the girls, "Stay here, I'm going after her."
Aella left the house, and Jeremy looked between the two girls, who looked very freaked out, "Again, what the hell?"
"We have a problem," Caroline turned to Jeremy.
Jeremy didn't hesitate to question, "A Damon problem?"
Elena's quickly looked to her brother, eyes wide and brows raised in confusion, "What do you mean, Damon problem?"
Caroline ignored Elena, and shook her negatively, but then stopped when she realized Damon was apart of the problem, "Maybe... I'm not sure, but definitely a magic problem!"
"What?!" Elena exclaimed, "Jeremy knows about the magic?"
Jeremy ignored Elena and continued, questioning Caroline, "Does Stefan know?"
"And Stefan!?"
Caroline whirled round on Elena, scared for her best friends, she shouted at the one next to her, "Yes Elena! We all know about the magic!"
Jeremy ignored Elena's shock, "Call Stefan."
Caroline bit her lip as she pulled her phone out of her pocket, "Can he handle this information right now?"
Jeremy only shrugged, "Can you handle Stefan when he realizes Aella's gone AWOL without him knowing?"
Neither two noticed as Elena teared up in frustration that everyone seemed to know a lot more than her; she'd been kept in the dark while her best friend walked around with her dead ancestor inside her, and her other was following after her with no backup. Elena needed to help and so backed away into the kitchen as Caroline and Jeremy ignored her presence. When she reached the kitchen door, she ran out of the house, Fell's Church, her destination knowing only what Bonnie had told her.
Caroline nodded, "You're right."
Caroline found Stefan's name and pressed his number, the phone rang only twice, and when Stefan answered her knew something wasn't right, "What's wrong?"
MYSTIC FALLS WOODS
Aella did her best not to fall flat on her face as she stumbled through the woods, looking for any sign of Bonnie, she had just finished mentally berating a random branch that had whacked her on the arm when her cell rang. When she saw her best friends name on the caller ID she hoped Caroline was calling to say Bonnie/Emily had returned;
"Please tell me she's there?"
Caroline laughed nervously on the phone, "Actually, I was just calling to see if Elena was with you?"
"What?!" Aella exclaimed, tripping over a stupid fallen branch. "Elena's gone too? I thought she was with you?"
"Well, she was at first," Caroline told her. "But when Jeremy and I came up with a new plan, she was gone."
"Great!" Aella muttered, "First, my cousin is out there with my dead ancestor possessing her, and now Elena, who knows absolutely nothing about our world except that magic exists, is strolling through these woods too! The good thing is that I may have an idea of why Emily is playing Exorcist with Bon."
"Ew! I hated that movie," Caroline told her, and Aella could see her grimacing. "What's your thought?"
"I think Emily has unfinished business," Aella shrugged. "After all, isn't that the usual gig for ghosts before a Sam or Dean jumps in and ganks them?"
Aella spotted a light flickering ahead as Caroline cooed over the phone at Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles, "Caroline, I think I found someth-"
Aella stepped out into a clearing when Damon yelped as he was thrown across the clearing and staked on a tree, "-Yep found them, gotta go!"
Aella hung up as Caroline questioned who had yelled and who was 'them,' she stepped out and held up her hands to Bonnie/Emily, trying for the moment to ignore Damon's moans of agony, "Emily stop, I can help you with whatever you need."
But her possessed cousin ignored her, the painful moans from Damon were seriously annoying her, as Bonnie/Emily didn't look to be leaving this spot, so she ran over to Damon and held up her hand, eyebrow raised at the branch making him a vampire-kebab at that moment, "This gonna hurt."
"Do it," Damon wheezed, knowing it would be less painful with the speed of her powers.
Aella used her wind powers to pull Damon's body quickly off the tree branch, wincing as he fell to his knees, breathing heavily, and rolled her eyes as she knelt down to him when he gasped out in pain, "It hurts. This is why I feed on people."
"That's probably the reason she hates you..." Aella grumbled as she tried to help him stand. "It's the reason why we all can't stand you."
Damon tried to glare, but his pain was too much, "Not... helping."
Aella was about to drop him back to the floor on purpose when Damon's weight disappeared from her shoulder, she looked across to see Stefan holding up Damon under his other arm.
"About time, brother!" Damon spat.
Stefan ignored him and looked across to Aella, "Are you okay?"
"Apart from my cousin being possessed by a very dead ancestor? Peachy!" Aella scowled, "What the hell does she want?"
Stefan wasn't too sure how to explain what Damon had told him while playing football, but Damon beat him to it as he moved to stand on his own, desperation in his voice, "To stop Katherine returning."
Aella stood up straight in shock, "What!" Ignoring Damon as he fell to the floor with a pitiful moan.
