A low moan crawled its way out of his throat. A deep and guttural cry that began rising in pitch and intensity. After a few minutes all he could hear was his own voice, screaming for release.

His cries rang throughout the empty city, echoing off the walls until it become something else entirely. A wordless plea for someone, anyone, to heal his shattered soul.

It was the sound of someone forced to walk on a path paved with chaos. The sound of a man who watched as everything he loved crumbled to ashes right in front of him. The sound of a man who had lost it all, nothing left to keep him sane. The sound of a man so broken and lost and alone.

He was unaware how much time had passed before he stopped, his throat raw and mouth dry. He wanted to sink into the earth, to disappear beneath the soil and sleep for an eternity. But he knew time was limited. Dried tears left streaks on his cheek, his eyes unable to shed anymore. His throat burned and throbbed, sore beyond belief. All his energy had been stolen, leaving behind an empty husk. On shaking legs, he pulled himself up.

He had no more tears to cry, no last prayers to say. Giving one last look at the destruction that lay before him, he turned away, a broken shell searching for the small flickering light of hope.

First chapter, whooooooo!
It's been ages since I've written anything and so to lessen the guilt, I decided to start this. You'll notice that I'll be updating 4-ish chapters today and that's because I had already written some prior to creating this book. After that, it'll be a daily update for the next 4-ish weeks.
Let's just hope I'm able to keep my promise.

QOTC (Question Of The Chapter): Do you guys think that this was long enough? Minus the authors note here, it was about 250-300 words long. Are you guys ok with chapters around this length or do you want something longer?
