"You won't know what it feels like if you don't do it."

I shut my eyes really tight, trying to drown out the sniggerings from behind me. The sound of waves hit my ears from far below, and my own heart, which thumped louder than giant footsteps, was racing wildly.

"You can do this, Veronica." Someone cheered. I knew it was Tanner. "Go on, jump!"

I inadvertently took a step forward.

"Jump! Jump! Jump! Jump!" The chants grew stronger and louder.

I forcefully opened my eyes and lurched forward, giving in to the pressure from my friends. My legs left solid ground and as I plummeted from a 50ft tall cliff, I realized that my sudden decision was the most foolish one ever. I had failed to make any calculations. I didn't even look where I was falling.

The next moment, all I felt was pain - a sharp, piercing pain that shot into both my legs, my arms, shoulders, and traveled into my skull. It was both paralyzing and terrifying. Water filled my nostrils before I even realized I was submerged deep in an icy cold sea. The blueness around me became tinted with a deep red I vaguely recognized to be blood, and that was the very last thing I saw before it all went black.
