Chapter 9
Their conversation had started in a strange manner and was supposed to end the same way. And it did. Brittney's thoughts revolved around the stranger guy for days, then she started forgetting him and his voice.
She got busy spending time with her parents, since she had to leave in a few days. Most of the time she would be busy cleaning her room and packing things for college. She was not really an expert in packing. In her case, it took a lot of time, calculation and effort.
However, she received a text from an unknown number a week later, when she was busy stuffing a bunch of sweatpants in her suitcase.
Hey Brittney.
It took some time and a little research for her to realize it was the same guy. She had not awaited his message, of course, but for some odd reason, she had hoped for him to text her, again.
Hey.
She did not want to sound excited. It was so stupid to get excited after receiving a text from a stranger. She did not even know if he was a good guy. She did not know his age. But her heart had skipped a beat.
Was it fear or excitement? She was familiar to none.
How are you?
Good. You?
I guess I am good.
What do you mean by you
'guess'?
Well, I may not be fine but I want
to be & I think it's all
that matters, right?
She stood up from the floor, moved her suitcase to a side and then started typing a reply as she slowly approached her bed.
Are you a philosopher coz I clearly
didn't understand a word
of what you said.
Texted, to be more precise.
....
Why, I am just a freshman at
college, young lady!
Good to know.
You seriously thought I'm a
p
hilosopher, didn't you?
Nah.
At least I know you are
not a philosopher.
Why, I am just eight!
Duh.
You're funny.
Am I supposed to say thank you?
Maybe no? Maybe yes?
So what have you been doing?
Wondering why you decided to text me
out of the blue. Like, after a
whole week.
You counted?
Of course not! *rolls eyes*
It's okay to miss me!
Sure.
S
o why the text all of a sudden?
Hey?
You there?
Is this your plan to stalk me or something?
I shouldn't be texting you in the first place
because I don't even know if you are a
bad guy or not.
As she typed the messages restlessly at intervals of one minute, she realized he was not going to reply back.
So she got up from her bed and resumed stuffing clothes in her suitcase, sitting on the floor.
After almost an hour or so, when she got up, her butt was feeling almost non existent from sitting at the same position for so long. She took a glance at her phone. There was a message. Her heart skipped a beat.
You know I was checking my phone's contact list
today and I realized there was really
no one I could talk to.
********
So! What do you think? Where is the story heading? I know you people are guessing things already but I am someone who likes writing anti clichés. ;)
From now on, the story would focus on texts more for the next few chapters.
