"Hello?" Brittney's chirpy, singsong voice greeted the person in the other end of the phone.

She was indeed very happy today. After all, it wasn't everyday that she had the courage to call her ultimate crush, Michael Haywood and confess her feeling for him!

"Who are you?" The voice was husky, low, and sounded very tired.

"Pardon?"

"Why did you call me?" He sounded absolutely terrible.

Brittney got rather confused. She thought something for a while and then answered, "I'm sorry I didn't get you."

"Me neither."

She had the strange feeling that she had heard the voice somewhere else, but she could not remember. Nor could she decipher a word of what he was saying.

"I'm afraid I have no clue what you are talking about, so I—"

He stopped her mid-sentence. "You shouldn't have called me, nor said those words," he said in a hopeless way.

And before Brittney could figure out his words or process its meaning, he hung up; leaving her completely clueless as to what was happening.

For a long time she just sat there in her bed in complete bewilderment, not in a condition to move or do anything. She was still trying to comprehend the meaning of his words.

His voice had bothered her the most. It sounded so torn and broken, as if it had suffered years of pain and trouble.

What did he mean by 'you shouldn't have called me'? 

She wondered for long. A lot of different thoughts were occupying her mind slowly.

Who was he, whom was he actually intending to call, what did he mean by 'those words' — these thoughts kept floating on her mind for long.

Then she got up from her bed and walked up to the desk and picked up her phone from there.

And only then did she get her biggest shock.
