Prologue
[3rd Person View]
Deep in the marble Royal Palace of the angels, a baby was born. Queen Titania, King Sizar, and Princess Scarlet comfort the baby angel in a dark room, a fireplace was the only light.
"Is that my sister?" the 5 year old angel asked, her bright white, feathery wings opened slightly.
"Yes." The queen held the baby tighter to her chest. She yawned and cuddled into the soft, pink blanket that wrapped around her little body.
"What's her name?" Scarlet asked her mother.
There was pause, then the queen answered in a soft voice, "How about Hope?"
"That's a prefect name for a perfect baby." The king gave his wife a grin, his fairly large wings closing tightly against his back. Titania gave him a warm smile, her long golden hair reflecting the light from the fire.
"But mother. She was born with no wings. I did. Am I not perfect?" The king and queen gave their daughter a shameful smile.
"We never said that at all, dear." Her father said as the baby gave them another yawn. "We mean we'll love her no matter what." There was a long pause of silence afterwards.
"Mother." Scarlet stepped closer, her dirty blond hair bobbed on her shoulders. "May I hold Hope?"
"Of course dear." her mother gently handed the baby over to her daughter. "Support her head, Scarlet dear. You don't want to hurt your sister."
"Yes mother." Scarlet adjust her small hands, holding the baby as told.
"Very good Scarlet." Her father put a large hand on her shoulder. The princess gave her father a slight smile, proud that she made him happy. The king ran his other hand through his dark brown hair, then through his beard.
Scarlet looked down at her sister, her bright silver eyes glistened as they watched her sister wriggle in her arms. "Shh..." the princess said as the baby started to whine. Baby Hope yawned once more and half opened her eyes. hints of dark blue appeared under her eyelids. Scarlet hugged her sister close, promising herself that she would protect Hope, no matter what.
Down in Hell - also known as the underworld - the Devil walked back and forth inside his bedroom. The walls of rock were bright as streams of molten lava gilded its way down the wall and into small cracks in the floor. His stone bed sat in the center of the room, a brown and grey blanket covered the surface.
A minute later, there was a knock at the door of his room. "You needed me, my lord?" A demon servant with an iron chest plate and helmet called.
"I asked you to come 20 minutes ago." the Devil's scratchy voice replied. His long twisted horns gleamed my the light of the lava.
"I'm very sorry my lord. Your army commander needed me to kill one of the worriers. They were weak and didn't do well in the training." The servant bowed his head, putting a pale hand on his chest. The other hand had an ax that was fresh with blood.
The Devil examined the servant with his dark, red eyes. His long tail twitched. "Very well then." He spoke, showing his fangs to the servant. "I need you to tell my spies to come. I need them for something important." His sharp, jagged wings opened and closed slightly. "Tell them to meet me in the main hall. I will be expecting them in less then an hour."
"Is that all, my lord?" the servant asked, keeping his head down.
There was a pause from the Devil. He tilted his head at the servant. "Yes actually. I need Jagger here later today. Send him a message that I need something from him."
"Right, my lord. I believe he is in the village. Shall I send a message now?" the servant's head looked up a little.
"Yes. You may go now."
The servant nodded and turned around, starting to head into the long hallway that led to the Devil's room.
"Wait. One more thing." He said. The servant stopped in his tracks. "Tell to cook I want my dinner now."
"Yes, my lord." The servant nodded and headed away into the shadows of the hallway.
The Devil grinned at himself. "I can't wait to get this plan started." He smiled an evil, sinister smile.
14 Years later [Hope's PoV]
I skipped along the marble halls in long strides. Flying servants passed me evey now and then, stopping for a moment to acknowledge me. I sighed every time I watched them go, flying away with their bright feathery wings, some bigger than others. I adjusted my bright golden blond hair and tucked strands behind my ears. I continued walking until I came up to a corridor that led to the throne room of my parents.
I stopped for a moment and adjusted my knee length white dress, straightening it out to make myself look more proper. I looked down at my white flats and bent down to wipe off any dust that had gotten on them. Then, I walked through the corridor to meet my mother and father.
Mother had her super long peach colored dress on the rippled in different directions. It brought out her silver eyes and crown that she wore on top of her head.
My father had His white suit on and his grey cape with a fluffy white border. His golden crown sat on top of his messy brown hair. It slightly covered his dark blue eyes.
"Hello mother, father." I curtsy and bowed my head. I waited for one of them to give me permission to rise.
"Mother, father, I here!" I hear Scarlet, my older sister call. she flutters besides and I slightly turn my head to her. She had the same clothing as me, but she wore her silver tiara on top of her perfect, shoulder length, dirty blond hair. I frowned at myself, remembering that I had forgotten to but on mine.
Scarlet folded her wings neatly on her back and bowed into a curtsy like me. I faced forwards again, waiting for one of my parents to speak.
"Rise, my children." Father spook clearly and seriously. Both Scarlet and I rised, standing up straight.
"Scarlet, dear, your late. Again." Mother frowned at my sister.
"I'm sorry, mother, father. I was in a rush after my date with Kennith." Kennith was Scarlet's boyfriend. They've been together for 2 years now.
"That is no excuse." father shook his head in disappointment. "We are more important than Kennith. You understand that, right dear?"
"Yes father. I do." Scarlet put her head down with a small, sad, frustrated sigh. Everyone who worked at the palace - including me and Scarlet - knew that the queen and king came first. Even before the servants' families. That's how it works in the palace. You would get punished if you were late for something and didn't have a good excuse. For me and my sister though, we have it a bit easier than the servants.
"Also," Father turned to me. I knew what he was about to say.
"Yes father, I know I forgot my tiara, and I am sorry for that. I promise I won't forget it next time." I put a hand on my heart and bowed my head.
"Very well then. Don't forget it again, or you will be punished." I winced when he said that. Last time I was punished, it was because I had forgotten about an important family meeting. I wasn't able to hang out with my friends Julia and Gwen for a week. They almost wanted to stop being friends after that. "You had forgotten your tiara 4 times now. Understand?"
"Yes father." I raised my head and folded my arms behind me.
"Alright," Mother started. Both Scarlet and I focused on her. "As you know, the war has been going on for over 10 years now."
"Yes, mother." My sister and I nodded at the same time.
"Well, we have been informed by one of our soldiers that there is going to be an attack from the demons on the palace."
"But why?" Scarlet interrupted. "They already sent spies over and almost killed me when I was six. Are they-"
"Shush." father sent a hard glare to Scarlet and she immediately quiet down, clearly frightened. "Learn to be more like your sister, Scarlet. Learn to wait until we give you permission to speak." My sister gave me a surprised look before her expression became annoyed and neutral.
I looked down, feeling a little sorry for her. Scarlet had always been a better angel than me. And now I was pretty sure she knew how I felt when my parents asked me to be more like her.
"Now, we need you two to go train in the courtyard. It's the most protected area. We don't know when the attack it so we need you two to be ready." Mother straightened her wings.
"If anything happens, come right back to us." father nodded to us. "You may go."
"Yes father." we both said at the same time.
Together, we exited the room through the corridor in silence. Scarlet walked beside me, her head down in shame.
I sighed. "Sister, something is bothering you. Do you want to talk about it?"
"Hope, I'm scared. What if mother and father die in the attack? What will happen when they're gone? I'm scared, sister."
I paused in surprise, looking her way. I never thought I would hear 'I'm scared' escape her lips.
"Well...then we will push through the war together." I reached for her hand and she let me take it. "I'll always love you. You know that right?" I gave her a smile.
"Yea. I-" Then, there was a scream. Both of us turned around in terror. The scream was coming from the throne room.
[Scarlet's PoV]
I launched myself into the air as soon as I heard the scream. I flapped my wings as hard as I could, zooming down the hallway, back through the corridor, and into a demon. Both of us rolled along the floor until I landed on top of the demon, immediately pinned his arms to the granite floor.
"What are you doing here, demon!?" I yelled in furry. The demon hissed, showing his fangs. his shaggy red hair half covered his pale face. I hissed back, raised my arm, and punched him are hard as I could in the face. He went limp and I breathed deeply, closing my wings.
"S-scarlet..." I heard mother's sweet voice. I looked up and saw father on the ground, mother beside him. Two demons were dead with blood everywhere around them.
"Mother!" Hope ran into the room and right up to her, blood coming from her forehead. All I could do was stare in horror at father. He had been sliced in the neck and chest. His dull blue eyes were wide open, his skin paler than a demon. I knew he was dead.
A tear slide down my face. Then, a demon crashed through The stain glass window behind the throne. He had a huge ax in his head, raised above his head. Hope had no time to react and get mother out of the way. For me, time slowed down, I opened my wings and pushed off the ground as the demon's ax landed straight into mother's heart.
"NO!!!" I shouted anger filled my head. I held out my fist and punched the demon right in the jaw. There was laud crack as he let go of the ax and was was knock right into he wall in between the thrones. Tears filled my eyes, blurring my vision as I continued attacking the demon. blow after blow until there was blood and bruises all over him.
When I was sure he was dead, I flew over to mother. The sight was to horrible to describe. I knelled on the ground, wings closed, and I cried. Blood from my hands washed away from my tears. Hope was beside me, to in shock to shed as much tears as me.
"S-scarlet-" I felt a hand on my shoulder.
"No! This is your fault!" I yelled in between tears. "You could have saved her! You could have stopped the demon!" I smacked her hand away and stood up. "You're useless because you have no wings!" Hope backed up a little. "You know what!? I hate you! You killed mother! You let it die!"
"B-but I-I-I-" Hope stuttered, curling her lip.
"No buts! Leave me alone! I NEVER want to see you again!" I opened my wings and launched into the air, flying as fast as I could to my room.
