Prologue
"It seems like there won't be any dinner for you today," my tutor says in an angry tone before shutting my door. After hearing my door lock, I flop on my bed and gaze at the view outside my window. The castle walls and a few patches of green plains is all I can see from my window. Overtime, I started getting bored of staring at the view over and over again, longing to see something different. Something new.
I go over to my study table and make my toys. I'm technically banned from making them after my tutor witnessed me accidentally blow up one of the castle's gardens with them but... I am gonna get bored anyway so I'm obviously gonna disobey her.
About 20 years ago, my parents had gotten me a tutor since they thought it was about time I learned etiquette but that wasn't my priority. After I finished making some toys, I hid them in a secret compartment in my closet and sat down on my dressing, waiting for two attendants to get me dressed.
They sashay into my room, try to show off something I do not notice which is really unnecessary. I notice how loud their makeup is which hurts my eyes incredibly. Their dresses' design looks like a child randomly splashed paint onto it and not in a good way. While setting makeup and brushes on my dressing table, one of the attendants looks at me like I'm some piece of trash.
"What a hopeless little girl you are. You must be waiting for your Prince Charming", she mocks and they both laugh like the mad women they are. I glare at them with a neutral look on my face. After reading a lot of books, I've learnt a few ways to talk back to someone when they are being rude and disgraceful beings. But I do wonder why I found those words in the storybooks though. I lock the thought away in my head, answering the little peasants afterwards.
"Oh! My apologies. I might be hopeless for some unknown reason but at least I'm not when it comes to my taste in fashion", I comment, looking them up and down.
The ladies flinch at my words, their mouths open in shock. It did have some effects but I honestly don't care if they work for the king but they're getting on my nerves.
"And if you'll excuse me," I say, pushing the girls outside my door gently. "I have better things to do than you wasting my time". I gave them a bright smile before slamming the door on their faces.
I always prefer to be alone. My parents' fault, not mine. After being locked up in a room for 200 years, I knew how to cope with loneliness. I use my dreams and imaginations to create toys that keep me company. I brush my white hair and look in the mirror. Compared to the dresses I see in books, my dress was something not even worth glancing in a fairytale.
I put on a plain blue dress and touch the writing on my wrist, rubbing it like the wordings will disappear. I have had this for as long as I can remember, but all I do know is that I wasn't born with it. I couldn't clean it off or make it disappear even though it's a simple text. But the that always come to mind why the text is the most random thing I've ever read, 'To see the world'. It's honestly something I've personally wanted for decades now but why is it written on my wrist?
I put the thought aside and read a book, waiting for a guard to escort me to dinner. Ever since I was a child, I've loved storybooks that had happy endings. Stories that explained things I couldn't experience myself. I've always wanted to be in storybooks but it would be impossible when I'm still stuck behind castle walls.
Around five minutes passes before a guard escorts me down for dinner. I sit at the royal table, my parents noticing my presence.
"How are you sweetie?" my mother says with a sweet smile on her face. My mom's wavy white hair glows brightly as it flows down her back. I had gotten my looks from her; most workers commenting on how I look similar to my mother... unlike our personalities.
"I'm good!" I answer, swiftly eating my food. I drop my spoon down when a thought comes to mind. "Mother, father, when will I... be able to shape into a full dragon?"
When a dragon is born, they can only take the form of a human, their horns being visible. The stronger or more knowledgeable you are about the type of element you are as a dragon, the closer you are to turning into a full dragon as we also call, an adult dragon.
After 200 years, I still have no knowledge of a single skill for moon dragons. I used to think I was too young but it's just obvious that they're delaying the process. I look at them, a serious look on my face as I wait for their reply. They exchange glances, worry written on their faces.
"In a couple of years," my mom answers, a fake smile appearing on her face. She once told me that when I was less than a 100 years old but the fact that it's been that long since she last said it, she definitely thought I would confuse a century with a 'couple' of years.
"Is that so?" I ask, my eyebrows raised. Did they think I was still a kid? I mean... a 200 years isn't up to half of my lifespan but it certainly is enough to be at least halfway into becoming a full dragon.
"Certainly! Isn't that right honey?" my mom says, her gaze on my father. He looks at me before nodding and I put on the best fake smile at their answer. Afterwards, we eat in silence as I think of the best payback. I guess it was finally time to use my toys.

I secretly enter a potion making room in the castle, making sure that there is no one in sight. I close the door behind me and look for the items to make my toys, making sure to not touch any other thing.
I remember when I first made a toy. A visitor or should I say teacher, who I realized later was an elf, taught me, showing me how they worked and the different ways with mechanics to make them so they activate differently. I've always been grateful towards him but it's honestly sad that I no longer got to see him after that. Just before he left, he gave me a book, the description to make all kinds of toys and even some examples of how to decorate. Ever since then, I would make them, and even tried to make one that looks like him.
I stop reminiscing about teacher and take the items and leave, entering my room and making a few of them. Afterwards, I paint them black and give them red horns to look like a demon, a smile appearing on my face once I'm done. It won't hurt if a few things blew up.

"Princess Luna!" a voice calls and I hide the toy in my hand behind me. I look to see a guard who continuously refuses to tell me his name.
"What mischief are you up to again? Don't tell me you brought those... 'toys' of yours," he questions, looking for a reaction on my face.
"Nope! My toys are in my room and I'm just taking a breather," I explain. "Is there something wrong with that?"
The silence in the atmosphere thickens as he gives me a suspicious look. What's his deal?
"I'll let you go this time, but I don't want to hear a single explosion in this castle, got it?"
"Got it!" I answer back with a smile on my face. He starts to walk the opposite direction when he stops in his tracks to face me.
"Oh, I forgot to tell you. I'll be going on an expedition in a few days so I just wanted to warn you not to destroy this place while I'm gone."
"You... get to leave?" I ask.
"Of course. I am a Knight Commander after all and I am good at what I do."
"No. That's not my point. Why do you get to leave but I can't?"
"...It's for your safety. Beyond the castle walls is a dangerous place and there's no way we'll let you go there," he explains, and I clench my hands in anger.
"That isn't fair! I'm a dragon. Aren't I your princess?" I say, my tone a bit louder than usual.
"You may be but my job is to keep you and your parents safe. Even the King and Queen acknowledge that you're too young to venture into a dangerous region," he yells and I flinch in shock. I knew he was right about that. That my parents won't let me leave.
"...Have a safe trip," I say before stomping into my room, locking the door behind me. It's always been my wish to see the world but not even my parents will let me. At least they could just teach me powers that are wielded by a moon dragon but of course, they don't.
I grab my toy in my hand, tracing the drawings I had done on it. It was colored using blue and white, an inspiration of when I saw a moon dragon turn into their full form and soar into the sky to their destination.
I was a princess in this castle but it's just a title that I have. Compared to the princesses in storybooks I've read, I am just like a mere servant and I can't even be treated nicely by even maids. But either way, it's killing me how my two simple wishes can't be granted. To turn to a full dragon and to see the world.
Just then, an idea pops in my head and I stand up in excitement. One of the reasons I couldn't escape was because years ago I was caught escaping by the Knight Commander and from then on, he would check on me to see if I would do anything suspicious. Honestly, the only reason why it didn't work was because my toy hadn't worked which resulted in me getting caught.
The point is, he's going on an expedition which means that it'll be easier to sneak out! And I can now count on the quality of my toys as they are way prettier and brighter. I pack my adventuring sling bag which I obviously borrowed and make some of my toys as I plan for the opportunity. I can't wait till Knight Commander leaves so I can make my escape.
