Part 1
He threw himself to his side and managed to grab one of his poké balls that was covered in the cold soil. Hastily, he pressed the button on the contraption and it opened up, revealing a Hawlucha. It screamed out its name and posed violently.
"Hawlucha, use high jump kick!" Ash flung his open palm to his side, one eye closed shut like a bear trap to hold in his aches and pains.
Hawlucha nodded and jumped high up into the air, one knee already bent and facing it's opponent.
As he flew back down, it used its wings to pick up his momentum. It only took a second before the opponent disappeared into thin air. The damp soil was kicked up from the subtle ground, hitting Hawlucha everywhere on it's body. The wrestling pokémon plummeted into the ground soon after, being tossed a few feet away from where it originally planned to land.
Ash cussed under his breathe. "I should've said a different move-"
Before he could completely finish, there was a powerful, thunderous sound beside Ash before the the earth beneath him shot up, coating him in a deep brown and striking him with small and sharp rocks.
Not too long after the shower of dirt had ceasefire, the trainer felt a sharp pain in his right cheek, leading him to bring his hand up to it and press onto it unyieldingly. There was a strange warmth on his glove before he even got to look at it. "Dammit." Ash spit out, the stinging sensation on his cheek soon entering his mind.
His eyes swarmed the entire environment. Past the ferns, the trees, the rocks, and the wreckage that had already been made from this battle. He was looking for it.
He knew he shouldn't of brought her along with him. He should've went alone. It's all his fault-
"Where is she dammit!?" He yelled to the sky.
No one replied.
Instead, only dirt showered down from the mountain next to him.
In response to the silence, he punched the rock wall next to him and followed it with a kick. Yet the pain in his toes, knuckles, and cheek didn't seem to distract him from the worry and pain pulsating in his chest. Anxiety was the thing that was killing him.
A strange voice that couldn't be depicted began to speak, as though the voice was inside of Ash's head.
It's strange. You humans.
A strange silence blanketed over them.
Ash gritted his teeth. "Answer me."
The figure then came into view from far behind Ash, it's tail flickering to it's side. "Why?" It's voice was deep.
Ash turned around. Blood crawled down his cheek as they tensed. But no words came out. Only anger exerted from his tensed muscles.
The pokémon continued to flick it's tail about as its eyes continued to stay cemented in place. Although his head tilted slightly away, his body stayed. "That settles it then." His words shifted along with the breeze. "You'll die here. Whether I kill you or the rest of nature does."
Ash's hands quickly formed into fists. "Why can't you just understand!? I'm not here to harm any pokémon! We just ended up-" he looked around the pummeled area, spotting some scared and frightened pokémon in the bushes. "Look!" Ash's hand pointed towards the frightened pokémon who quickly scattered back into the broken bushes. "They don't. Want. This. I'm sorry, okay? I get it. I understand. But you have to understand my side too. Pokémon are my friends. My best friends. I'd never- ever want to put them through any harm if they didn't want to battle along side me-"
"Hawlucha," a screech came from the side of the two. The wrestling pokémon limped its way to it's trainer.
Finally making itself in front of Ash, it turned itself towards Mewtwo and posed for its opponent, yelling something as it did.
Mewtwo's eyes flinched. "Fool."
Hawlucha retaliated with another violent pose and screeched once more, but this time Mewtwo closed its eyes.
"Leave," Mewtwo raised his voice. "For I cannot help these poor creatures."
"Not until you tell me where Serena is." Ash stood his ground next to his pokémon.
Mewtwo made a sound, almost like a sigh. "You're a very stubborn child... I'll tell you if you promise to never come back- if you do," he eyes opened fiercely, "you'll be facing major consequences."
"Yes, I-I understand," Ash nodded his head and tried his best to remain composure.
Out of thin air, Ash seemed to know where Serena was. Mewtwo did not tell him, nor did it point. It was more like a sudden thought, a sudden knowledge in his head. For Mewtwo had used telepathy on him for a short moment, revealing the location of the other, more unknown trainer.
Quickly, Ash returned Hawlucha into its poke ball and ran, not even daring to look back at Mewtwo.
He jumped over the ruble and the bushes of the forest. Even the roots that sprouted out from the ground. His lungs filled with rough, unstructured air due to his struggling breathe, tears merely forming as he pushed past all the trees and following greenery.
Unconsciously, he wiped the small amount blood on his cheek as he ran, the skin stinging as the wind hit it over and over again with each running step.
Soon, Ash reached the spot; the destination that Mewtwo brought him to.
More silence.
Only breathes.
The trees have all fallen over. The leaves and vines seemed to be torn with every inch of their being. The pokémon who were there before seemed to of vanished into thin air. The ground was soft from being battered.
"Serena-" Ash looked around, his heart beating up against his chest.
No answer.
"Serena!"
No answer.
The boy quickly trudged his way to more of the ruble and clawed at the bark and the branches, memories that seem to nightmares in his head. This is where he last saw her. Before the explosion. Before the loud sound. The godawful sound. The breaking of trees and the rustle of leaves. Along with the boom.
"Please..." Tears fell down his cheeks now, passing by his open wound and leaving more pain for his cheek to handle- but nothing compared to the pain in his heart. The panic. The worry.
•~•~•
He remembered his back being thrown into the sticks and leaves and the rows of trees falling down like the start of a domino set. Each time one hit the ground, the earth underneath him would jump.
Without thinking, Ash would reach into his pocket and being out a poké ball. Before he would be able press the button, a large gush of wind hit the trainer and would throw him back further into the forest. The gust was powerful. Too powerful for even a pokémon to make- or so it seemed.
When Ash opened his eyes, he found himself in a patch of golden flowers. Flourishing green grass pricked his back as the wind blew everything away from his face. Dust kicked up onto his face like a wave of water, leading him to jump up onto his feet. He'd find himself alone; without Serena.
Mewtwo later showed up. Accusing him of attacking the pokémon in the forest. Of him even capturing one and stealing it of it's home and family. Only one accusation was fault. The other had reason. A battle began. But not one without struggle.

His hands gathered splinters with every tug and pull of the broken, dispersed wood that scattered the entire area. Until he felt something soft underneath his finger as he pulled another chunk of wood up. Hastily, he set it down and looked for the soft object.
But when he did spot it, another panicked, uncontrolled beat, rang in his heart. It was apart of the ribbon he gave her. The blue reflected some of the light above him. It sat ripped. Destroyed.
Without thinking, his hands swirled around in the same area, searching.
It wasn't long after that that he'd pull leaves away from the ground and find a hand gently lying there on the floor. Limp and unmoving.
"Serena!" He screamed again, every inch of him going into a panic. He began pulling up all the debris as quickly and unharming as he could.
The top half of her body began to come into view, her eyes closed. His hands, without realizing, wrapped around her and pulled her up into his lap.
Tears fell down onto her vest. "Sere-" he chocked on his own sorrow.
Her entire body seemed to be covered in dust. Her legs were scraped up from the wood and pointed leaves. Her arms didn't seem much better. Her face seemed to be the only thing that was kept safe.
Slowly, her eyes opened. The open light coming down from above blinding her.
Ash's tears fell. The scene then came to view. He saw her ocean blue eyes. "Serena-" he quickly hugged her with all his might, pulling her up to his chest.
Serena felt every muscle in her body for a short minute as she tried to focus on her surroundings and what was going on. The green from the trees and the orange sky from the sunset faded out to black as Ash's hair blocked the view. It took her a while until she realized where she was. In Ash's hands.
Although she was still struggling to have her own mind in the right place, she felt a strange tug on her heart that caused her to wake up just a little more.
She then felt his warmth; his arms wrapped tightly around her torso- and his tears. They soaked her shoulder like rain would on a rainy day.
She tried to pull away- but couldn't. He was holding onto her too tightly to even move a single inch. So she stayed. As much as she wanted to sit up and stop him from crying, her strength wasn't there. Serena instead hugged him back, her own tears forming above her eyelids. They fell onto the ground right behind Ash. She didn't know why she was truly crying. Hearing and feeling Ash cry was enough for her to handle that day. Even with the scratches and the bumps and bruises, nothing compared to the pain in her heart when she heard Ash cry.
She could feel her lungs fill up every time with air, untuned with no pattern.
•~•~•
It took a while, but Ash soon stopped crying. Silence just fell over the two trainers as they sat there uncomfortably. Serena still curved herself around to hug Ash as he held her close to him. As much as Ash seemed like a natural in communicating with other beings and pokémon, he couldn't seem to figure out what to do next. His tongue stayed trapped underneath the roof of his mouth as though it was set up like an intentional trap.
"Ash," Serena finally sat up, Ash's arms falling to his sides.
The young girl studied his face. It was flat. Full of tear stains. He tried hiding his face with the tip of his hat. She felt like hugging him again- so she did. But this time, cried a little more. She buried her face into the side of his head, burying herself into his hair.
She felt terrible.
Ash pulled away, sitting a few feet away from her and put himself in a crisscross applesauce position. His face was still shrouded as the night stars soon began to become visible.
Another long blanket of silence overtook them.
"I'm sorry." Serena lower led her head and looked away.
Ash looked back up at her.
"If it wasn't for me- we wouldn't of even been in this forest. It's my fault- I should've not suggested a place like this."
Ash moved his feet. "You shouldn't of came with me."
Serena felt the tug on her heart when he said that. The whole reason she came out here in the first place was because she thought she'd be able to get some alone time with him- she thought it'd be great training for him too. But, it was mostly for the opportunity of having an entire day to spend with him as Bonnie and Clemont explored the town. But it's not like she was going to say that to Ash.
All that came out of her was, "Sorry."
Ash slowly stood up to his feet and walked up to her, reaching his hand out for her to take.
She felt her cheeks burn softly when she stared back up at him. He took his hand and felt him pull her back up to his feet along with him. She was pulled directly into him. Her hands pushed themselves against his chest as his arm wrapped her.
A flashback occurred.
Yet Serena took a step back, struggling to keep her fangirl in. The only problem was, when she did, there was an immediate stinging sensation in her ankle and she yelped.
"A-are you okay?" Ash reached out his hand again, having Serena grab onto it.
She winced and tried to stand back up. "I think- I sprained my ankle pretty bad."
Ash felt his chest tighten from the knot made from his beating heart. "Here," he turned around and bent down, "wrap your arms around my neck."
Serena blushed a deep rose red. She noticed her hands began to sweat as she edged closer and tried to follow orders. As soon as she felt her arms touch his skin, she closed her eyes and followed through.
When Ash knew that she was finally holding on tight enough, he grabbed onto Serena's legs and pulled them in closer as he stood up as quickly as possible. Serena opened her eyes to the touch and almost let go of his neck, but hugged on as she felt the weight of gravity. Ash's hands were holding her up by her thighs.
Serena felt as though she was going to faint again. All the blood in her body steamed up into her cheeks, making sure to thank god that Ash wasn't able to see.
"Is everything alright up there?" Ash asked before beginning to move.
"Y-yeah."
"Alright, I'm gonna start walking now, okay?"
Serena nodded anxiously before realizing he couldn't see. "Ok- okay."
Ash began to walk towards the path that they came in from, trying his best to balance Serena on his back. But it wasn't that much of a hassle. It really wasn't much of a surprise to him, but she was light. Really light. Compared to the training he'd do with his pokémon and with Greninja, this was nothing more than his backpack that he'd carry around on a daily.
Now only if they could get out of this forest as soon as possible. They'd get to the pokémon center- Clemont would make them dinner, Serena's injuries could be taken care of properly.
If only.

So. I'm going to redo The Storm. Mostly because of the fact that I think I'll have the motivation to write the fanfic. It's going to take a while to get back into writing and actually be able to write relatively well again.
&
Q: Should I write about any other ships?
And, here are other older fanfics I wrote- if anyone is interested in me redoing those, too
Already made a new cover for Hard to Get a while ago
One fanfic that I used to love writing, actually- but The Storm I think was a good one, too
