I felt the air leave leave my lungs as the curved fist rammed into my stomach, sending me to cold wall where it met my back, releasing an unsettling amount of warm blood rush down shoulder. My lungs shriveled up as they begged for air, black appearing at the side of my eyes until I realized that my consciousness was fading away. I wanted to scream. I wanted to huddle up into a ball and cry.
The fist reeled back and my knees fell in despair until, finally, I laid there limply on the floor that seemed to mock me. I continued to tremble as my shoulder stung, my stomach aching in pain. I shuttered and cried out when my lungs finally decided to cooperate, letting the cold air rush down my throat, cutting at it and only making me gasp for more, my heart beating against my chest rapidly.
Why was this happening? Why was I here?
My mind went back to how this all happened in the first place.
It was Team Flare. They were after Xerneas and Yveltal to make the ultimate weapon fully work, but then Ash jumped in...
"Stop!" Ash demanded, throwing his arm to his side.
Pikachu jumped off his shoulder and the electric mouse Pokémon released electricity from its cheeks, letting the dark floor alight with golden sparks and giving light to the dark, shaded room which held both Xerneas and Yveltal. I stood in the background paralyzed, Bonnie at my side and holding onto my leg as I felt her uneasy breath brush up against my side. Clemont watched from beside Bonnie, his eyes fixated on the battle that was about to be unleashed, threatening the world. But my eyes trembled in fear as I watched, not closed like Bonnie, nor straight and stern like Clemont's. Instead, my eyes held the moment of where everything was set up. Every single detail. Yveltal and Xerneas were still held in a cocoon and what looked like a tree, everyone except Ash standing in between the two. And in front of Ash, a man stood with searing eyes of anger and rage, able to be seen even behind the visor her wore in front of his eyes.
After that, Lysandre battled Ash, and later lost, but then before we could battle the legendary Pokémon and before we could escape their secret base, Team Flare Grunts raided the room and blocked the exit. They took us and threw us into what I assumed jail cells, just like the one that we found the mysterious man named AZ in. They took all of our Pokémon as they overpowered us in number and stopped us all before we could reach for our Poké Balls. Pikachu gave a good fight though, standing by Ash the whole time. But eventually, a cage was thrown on top of the exhausted Pokémon and thrusted towards another grunt to take him somewhere where the rest of our Pokémon were being held. But right after we were all thrown into a separate cell, they took me and Ash out of our cells and were about to take us somewhere when Ash tried to escape, taking my hand and rushing towards the exit but failed when Lysandre stepped in front of him, leading Ash to run into him and fall over. And that's when everything broke loose. Since I was still standing up, Lysandre saw me first and took my arm in jagged rage, his arm firmly wrapped around my wrist that I could of sworn was about to brake in two. Team Flare Grunts rushed the room and held Ash to the ground before he could reach Lysandre, the whole hallway going silent except for Ash's constant struggling and the small whimpers I gave as Lysandre continued to twist my wrist unnaturally.
My ears, numb, began to pick up muffled yells to the side of me, violent, raspy yells that made me close my eyes in discomfort. But as my hearing began to fade back to normal, tears entered my eyes. I knew that voice from anywhere.
Tears fell onto the ground that I laid on and soaked my short, honey blond hair. My emotions became a mangled up mess. What was I supposed to do now? Sit here and cry? Or wait for the next punch? I didn't know. I didn't care anymore.
"St-- it! Pl--se!" Someone yelled before I felt something ram back into my stomach, the air jumping right back out of my lungs as I choked on nothing. The pain rushed my churning stomach and I hugged it in pain, my thoughts going wild and unstable. My knees instinctively curled up in front of me in an attempt to try to protect myself from another painful blow, my eyes jumping towards a black, polished shoe that backed away from my stomach, telling me that I was kicked instead of punched like last time.
I continued to struggle for air, my thoughts seemingly to no longer be alive as the only thing I felt was pain that swirled back and forth from my stomach to my lungs that we're practically wishing desperately for such a thing called air.
Before much more could happen, I felt the back of my hair start to be pulled, soon yanked and leading me to leap off the floor and onto my knees, sending unbearable pain to my scalp as I yelped. Tears arose across my eyelids and blurred my vision, stopping me from seeing anything that was set in front of me.
My breaths for air finally came and my thoughts rushed back into my aching brain, my hands finally instinctively reaching up towards the hand that was pulling on my hair, but again, before I could do that, my hair was pulled again and my knees left the ground until my body finally gave in and I stood up myself to avoid more pain. I struggled back to my feet, my head still stinging from the last pull. But my hands continued to try to find my hair and release it from the grip that it was still in.
"Why, mi Serena, don't struggle so much. You'll only make things worse for you and your friends. And we don't want that now, do we?" A deep voice said from behind me, a small yank on my hair following his sharp last words he spoke.
I yelped again and grabbed my hair, but I gave in and stopped moving around frantically, letting his grip on my hair soften gradually.
"Better," I heard him say softly, releasing a deep laugh that was somewhat rough, sending a shiver down my spine.
"You bastard!" I heard a familiar voice from not to far away. "Let her go, dammit!"
But the man who held my hair ignored him and muttered, "Now, let's not get too crazy, filthy brat. You'll have your turn soon for trying to disturb my plans. Why would you want to stop me? Truly, everyone should look up to me and admire what good I'm about to bring to the world!" He broke madly. "It's pieces of trash like you that dirty such a beautiful world!"
"N-no," I mumbled, "You're wrong!"
"What was that?" The man snapped, pulling on my hair again.
"I said let her go!" Ash shouted, struggling from the two Team Flare Grunts that held him face down and kept his hands behind his back.
My tears continued to fall down my cheeks as I saw this, my head warm from the previous yanks, and I shuttered in fear, my heart momentarily beating quicker and quicker by the second.
"Fine," Lysandre said nonchalantly, and I felt another pull on my hair that made me trip over his own foot that was held out behind me, leading my legs to give out.
I fell givingly and let my back brush up against the cold floor once again, my head ringing.
"Tell me, tell me really, how stupid is that?" He mocked as he laughed, my eyes looking up at him fearfully. "I'm wrong? I'm wrong?"
If I had enough consciousness at the time, I probably would if grimaced at such a scene.
"You are!" I spit out, trying sitting back up as my whole body ached. "You're wrong!"
I watched as Lysandre gave another deathly glare at me, but he didn't kick, nor punch me, instead, he knelt down before me and asked gingerly, "Tell me, please, how am I so wrong in such a dark, twisted world that we both live in? How?"
My lips stayed sealed as my hands shook in fear with every second that Lysandre looked at me and waited for the answer he longed for. For something to stop his plans that maybe even he didn't want to be accurate.
"That's what I thought," he smirked as I kept quiet, stepping up from his kneeling position and turning over towards Ash, but then I clenched my teeth and yelled out, "You're wrong because you're blind!"
I watched Lysandre freeze in his tracks.
Good. All I need to do is just keep him away from Ash. I just need to buy some time, I thought, my heart racing.
"You're the one wrong," Lysandre seethed for a mere second, "You're the fool without vision, not me. You're all blind and continue to befoul this beautiful world!"
"You see a world full of filth, but what about the spots that are clean and spotless? We can help make the world even more beautiful without completely destroying it! Why can't you just looks past the smudges and smears that cover the world?"
To be honest, I didn't even know what I was saying at that point, I was just going with what he was saying about the world being full of nothing but filth and trash.
"Because that's all there is," he proclaimed, and soon repeating, "That's all there is."
He then turned back over towards Ash and my heart seemed to stutter as its heartbeat became unsteady.
"Serena, run!" Ash shouted, struggling from the two Team Flare Grunts that held him down, Lysandre not even budging to what Ash said to me.
My lip quivered as tears ran my cheeks. What was I supposed to do?
"Dammit, run!" Ash continued, soon being forced to up to his feet as he continued to struggle out of the Grunt's grips.
And that's when Lysandre pulled his hand back and thrusted it towards Ash, soon hitting Ash directly in the jaw and the Grunts let him fly backwards and fall into the metal floor of the HQ.
"ASH!" I screamed, choking on the air as my heart skipped a beat, everything around me seeming to fall apart.
But Ash sat up and held his face, his consciousness obviously holding strong.
"And you, you," Lysandre pointed at Ash, "You ruined everything!"
Lysandre punched Ash again, leading him to fall down into the floor again and send a traumatizing sound when Ash's head hit the metal floor. My feet pushed me up weakly and I rushed over towards Ash, tears rushing down my face. But before I could reach him, two hands wrapped around my arms and held me back.
"ASH!" I continued to wail, trying to break from the Grunt's grips. "Please! Don't!"
The kicks came repeatedly.
"STOP! STOP IT, PLEASE!" I flailed around, my yells nothing but useless efforts.
Tears streamed down my cheeks like a waterfall now, time seeming to slow down as I watched Lysandre continue to kick Ash who now laid on the floor weakly, desperate yells of pain leaving his mouth.
"STOP! WHY CAN'T YOU LISTEN TO ME?" My legs gave out and the Grunts let me fall to my knees. "PLEASE!"
Finally, Lysandre stopped with the kicking and let Ash gasp for air, who was now holding his stomach in pain, his back probably aching as well, no doubt.
I whimpered and let my gaze drop back down on the floor, my vision blurred by my nonstop tears.
"Let her go," I heard Lysandre say, his footsteps passing by me.
I felt the arms locked around my trembling arms let go and my whole body shook from the relieved feeling of freedom. My first actions were to scramble to my legs and rush to Ash's side still crying, his eyes closed in pain.
"Ash," I mumbled, my eyes continuing to watch the nightmare set before me. "Ash, please."
I watched as Ash's eyes flutter open and look up at me as a shower of relief washed over me.
A smile somehow split across my face and I found myself giving a sigh of relief, but then the next thing I knew, arms were thrown around my own again and pulled me away from Ash, the other Flare Grunt picking up Ash by the arms and forcing him to his feet even though he seemed like he could barely even do that.
"Now, get rid of them. And make sure they don't escape like last time," Lysandre ordered as he walked away, a smile actually being able to be seen as he turned down the hall.
As I tried to break free from their grip, I felt two cold rings slide down around my wrist and fear crawled down my spine after I heard the snap of the handcuffs latch on, my breath becoming uneven while my body shook along with it.
I watched as Ash winced as the Grunt pushed him forward, forcing him to take a first step forward. They pushed me next, but their hands brushed the cut on my shoulder, leading another stinging pain to be sent to my back. To top it off, I wasn't ready for the push and I fell forward, bumping into Ash, but he kept his ground.
"Are you alright?" Ash asked before I could really become stable again.
"Y-yeah," I lied, trying to hide the excruciating pain that pulsed, leading me to wince every time my heart decided to beat.
"Come on, lovebirds," the first Grunt yelled, pushing on the both of us again, but this time I ignored the pain brought to my shoulder and just noticed the warmth that was brought to my cheeks, my mouth closing in embarrassment.
Me and Ash began to walk down the long hall, passing the exit along the way. Ash struggled at first, but it seemed like he got the hang of walking through the pain eventually.
As the shuffles of our feet hitting against the metal floor continued for another minute, the second Team Flare Grunt behind me shouted, "Hurry up," pushing me in the back again with his elbow.
I frowned and tried to pick up the speed, even though my back and the back of my head was pretty much numb now, with the occasional pain that traveled through my aching muscles.
"Serena," I heard Ash mutter next to me, leading me to look over at him. "Why didn't you run?"
Another sickening shiver crawled down my back. My frown deepened and I looked away, my heart shuttering along with the rest of me. Because I wanted to help you but I was too weak to, my mind thought, tears entering my vision.
"It was your only chance to escape. You could of gotten out and gotten help." I saw Ash look down at the ground as a scowl took place on his face.
My heart dropped to me stomach. He was right. I could of gotten out of this damned place and got someone to help. To tell them what was happening. And instead, I did nothing. I buried my head into my shoulders. I didn't know if the two Grunts behind us were listening, but I didn't care either way.
"Alright you two, over here!" The first Grunt said, shoving Ash into the room next to him.
Next, a foot rammed into my back and I flew forward from the kick, running into the empty room that they shoved Ash in.
The next thing I knew, the two Grunts entered the room and closed the door behind them, bringing us to the back of the room, my fear growing like crazy.
"Serena," I looked over at Ash who stood at my side, a sympathetic smile perfectly plastered into his face. "It's going to be alright," He murmured.
My heart seemed to stop racing, as if his smile just calmed me down in an instant. His warm hazel eyes comforted me and my shoulders relaxed, letting the atmosphere of the terrifying setting disappear.
But then I felt a two hand push down onto my shoulders and I was forced down onto my knees, tears arriving back into my eyes like it was an invite from my returning fear that went wild, throwing my heart back and forth. So I closed my eyes, letting the view of darkness swallow me whole.
Then, something cold and smooth was pressed against my forehead and I whimpered, realizing that it was the muzzle of a gun. My whole body trembled as I thought that I was going to be shot right there and then. Tears streamed down my cheeks again and scrapes of sobs escaped me mouth.
"So which one do you wanna kill first?" One of the grunts chuckled.
Were they seriously this sick?
"Aye, how about the girl first? She's quiet annoying."
"Sounds good to me."
I heard a small click escape the gun in front of me and I felt my whole body grow cold, waiting for the trigger to be pulled.
"Don't you fucking shoot," A voice said next to me, repeating, "Don't you dare fucking shoot, I'll kill you."
I opened my eyes and looked to the side of me, finding Ash glaring at the grunt holding the gun to my forehead while, at the same time, a gun was pointed between his brow.
All the Grunt in front of me did was give a sly smile, and to this, Ash attempted to jump to his feet, but the grunt that held the gun to him pushed down the muzzle on Ash's forehead, shoving him back down onto his knees.
"Not if I kill you first," The first Grunt grumbled, backing his gun back and struck Ash in the head.
Ash hissed through his gritted teeth and seethed, letting the gun to continue to point at his head.
"Then shoot me instead, just let her go," Ash commanded nonchalantly, looking up at the grunt with stern eyes.
I gasped under my breath, my heart jumping. My eyes trembled in disbelief and shot to Ash, looking at him in astonishment as my back trickled with something worse than fear. Something worse than physical pain. It struck my heart with lightning speed and clutched it, letting it squeeze the life out of my heart and me.
"Aw, how you cute, trying to protect your girlfriend, aren't you, little brat? Huh, you have some nerve, but don't worry, I'll do the honor of killing her after you," the Grunt holding the gun towards me laughed, pushing to gun harder into my forehead, his hands still pressing against the trigger.
My cheeks flared red even with my life hanging from a thread, and I mumbled, "I'm not his girlfriend."
"What was that?" The Grunt snapped, probably thinking that I insulted him.
The muzzle was still cold, along with the rest of my pale body that was still trembling. I didn't answer and just closed my eyes, letting my unsteady breaths escape my mouth, the remains of my tears left on my stained cheeks.
"DON'T SHOOT, DAMMIT!" Ash yelled, looking over at the gun pointed at my head with eyes of aggravation.
I just shuttered and got ready for the gunshot... If I would live to hear it that is. My tears fell down on the floor in front of me, time taking its own sweet time as my heart grew impatient. I just wanted it to end. To end quickly. Nothing else.
"PIKA--"
My eyes flashed open as I watched the door of the room fly off of the latches that held them to the doorframe and fall into the floor with a slam, electricity surging through the metal doors while the gun leaving my forehand.
"Son of a Houndoom!" The first Grunt cursed, reaching for his pocket and grabbing a Poké Ball, but it was already too late.
I watched as streaks of lightning came from behind the fallen doors and fly towards the two Grunts, soon hitting them with full strength and blinding me.
The grunts fell as if they became dismantled, letting their guns fall at their sides.
Silence fell across the room as my tears still fell with it, my heart completely swollen.
"Pikachu!" I heard Ash shout happily next to me, leaning towards the exit.
The electric mouse Pokémon hopped over the metal doors and ran over to Ash with nothing but happiness, soon running into his Trainer's lap, passing by the unconscious Team Flare Grunts.
"Pikachu, oh, thank Arceus," Ash praised, smiling down at his Pokémon.
As the reunion went on, Ash soon asked Pikachu to grab the keys to the handcuffs that wrapped around our wrists. And, of course, Pikachu yipped happily and walked over towards one of the unconscious Team Flare Grunts and grabbed a pair of keys from his pocket, walking back over towards the both of us proudly with the keys hanging from its mouth.
Pikachu went to Ash first, skillfully unlocking the handcuffs. When Ash finally broke free, he pulled his hands in front of him and moved his fingers around in freedom.
"Thanks, bud," Ash thanked with a smile.
"Pika, Pi!" Pikachu smiled, happy by such a praise.
The Pokémon then pounced over towards me, unlocking my handcuffs in what seemed like seconds.
After this, Pikachu jumped over towards Ash and landing into its Trainer's arms, yelling out happily with how happy it was to see its Trainer to be alright.
I smiled. Even though the rest of my body was still shaking, I sighed of relief and watched as the two become reunited, even though I was still wondering how Pikachu escaped.
A second passed by.
And another.
And another...
For some reason, a shiver went down my spine, even though everything seemed fine. The room went cold, goosebumps crawling along my arms.
Then, out of no where, I heard a voice from behind me say in almost a whisper, "Damn you."
Before I could hear anything else, the sound of a gunshot rang into the silent, stiff air around me.
My eyes widened as my ears grew numb. Everything around me seemed to stand still, the only noise ringing that went on in my head, my thoughts afraid and thinking that I went deaf from the gunshot. But the main thought that my mind went to was the stinging pain that reached my shoulder blade. It was unbearable. I yowled, letting the horrible feeling of the blood soak my shoulder. I dropped to the cold ground, as if it would help somehow.
"SERENA!" I heard Ash yell, my heart thumping against my chest, seeming to muffle his yells along with the ringing in my eardrums.
Blood trickled down my back and onto the floor, unbelievable pain being registered by my brain, begging it to end. The pain seemed to rush my shoulder blade, as if it was burning my skin all around it and searing the inside of my flesh. Another last desperate cry escaped my mouth, my mind again thinking that it would somehow help with the excruciating pain. More muffled screams could be heard from someone else that I couldn't make out, but I didn't care anyways. And that was the last thing I remembered before everything went black.
End of part 1...
