"Ash I cant handle it, its too big! Ash you have such a big...ego. Arceus why can't you let me win just once!" Serena pouted. I love when she makes that face. "Simple, if I let you win, how would you improve?"
She seemed to think about it for a second. "I guess you have a point. You could at least play a little easier for your wife though!" This made me chuckle. I cant help how good I am at Mario Kart. It also helps that Serena kept falling off on Rainbow Road.
Me and Serena are now in our early 20s and have been married for around 2 or is it 3 years? Meh, I will probably remember tomorrow. She continued to mock glare at me in the cute way she does. Until a sound arose on the bed behind us.
"Pika...Pika pi." "Sylveon Syl." Both of our Pokemon moaned. Me and Serena stopped and laughed. Her laugh had always been a melody, now it was one which graced my ears everyday.
"Pikachu and Sylveon are right, you need your beauty sleep Serena." I pointed out. Then I realised that was badly worded. Serena folded her arms and glowered at me. "And just WHAT is that supposed to mean?"
Her glare was frightening. And I panicked quickly. "How else are you supposed to retain the angelic appearance you always have?!" I sputtered nervously. Her glare remained for a few seconds. Then she relaxed and her vibrant smile returned.
"Hm good save." She grinned. I sighed in relief. Come on, lets go bed Ashy Boy." She said with a wink. "Ugh, you know how i feel about that name."
We both got into bed with Pikachu and Sylveon snug together at the end of it. "Good night Serena." Go sleep idiot." With one last chuckle, my body embraced the spell of the night and I snuggled with my lovely wife...
Next Day:
Waking up is always such a treat for me. I'm greeted by the cutest sights imaginable. The first is a young sleeping girl, whom my love for knows no bounds. The second when I look to the end of our bed is Pikachu snuggling up to Sylveon as the first newborn rays of sunlight peek through the curtains.
The last, and easily my favorite, is the moment Serena wakes up. I have to be patient for this one. I will lie in waiting never taking my eyes from her sleeping soundly. Its in these moments that my heart could race, I could ponder just what my life would be like without her and how lucky I am that she is in it. Then the best part happens.
Her eyes fluttered open in the way someone does when their body wishes to greet the day. As I do every morning, I smiled at her. My way of telling her 'good morning, welcome to another day of heaven.' Her eyes focus in on mine and the blue which seemed to emanate the natural beauty of a summer sky finally graces my being.
Before she can even get a word in, I quickly kiss her lips. Something about today feels special, may as well have a special start. Upon pulling away, I wondered how she would have reacted to my romantic advancement. "You have morning breath."
She smiled at me slyly. She completely dampened my whole moment. Arceus I love her. Instinctively, I breathed into my hand and whiffed a heavy dose of poor breath. 'Ok' I thought. 'Bathroom'.
After a swift session in the bathroom, I went downstairs. I was still in my blue pajama top. Serena was sat on the couch with Pikachu sat gently on her shoulder and Sylveon in her lap. They were watching a pokemon showcase. It is important that Serena keeps up to date with any potential challengers to her reign. My queen wont lose to just anyone though.
Pikachu saw me and hopped of Serena to approach. Serena followed his movement and when she set her eyes on me, she gave a greeting smile. I returned one of equal affection just as Pikachu hopped onto my shoulder. He knew that I was getting some food so of course he was gonna tag along.
We walked into the kitchen and opened up one of the cupboards. "What do you want Pikachu?" I said turning to him. Instead of answering, he hopped up and grabbed some small ketchup sachets. Some things never change. I grabbed an apple from the fruit bowl. Sitting down with Pikachu in a chair by the table I couldn't help but feel something was off. This felt like a normal, basic day but... Then my eyes set upon the calendar and the horror set in.
In shock I swallowed a bite of the apple too fast resulting in me choking slightly. I bashed my chest a couple times until it slid down. A momentary sigh of relief and then the fear set in again. "Oh crap, crap, crap!" Pikachu looked at me in bewilderment of my panicking. Today was the 18th of October. Today was mine and Serena's wedding anniversary...And I completely forgot!!!
"Pikachu, we need to go!" "Pika?" I glared at him. "Yes now!" I grabbed him from the table which would normally end in me receiving an electrical shock. But he knew I was serious. After a few minutes passing of me putting on some fresh clothes I made my way to the door. Just as I was about to open it, a voice picked up from behind.
"Ash? Where are you off to in such a hurry?" Serena asked with a cheery smile. I started to get panicky again. "Uh me? I'm just out to get some shopping. Pikachu really wanted some more ketchup right bud?" No answer. Thanks Pikachu, I'm gonna hide the rest of your ketchup if I survive today.
Serena blankly stared at me, I'm surprised she hasn't reacted to my sudden and strange actions. "Alright then." She bought it. I kissed her on the cheek. Just before turning I noticed that a thin strip of red went across her cheeks. "Every day is the like the first time we got together." I smiled. "Why is that?" She asked with an eyebrow raised.
I hugged her and put my mouth to her ear. Lowering my voice to a whisper while pulling a grin I spoke. "Because you still glow as red as a Tamato Berry whenever I kiss you." Then I pulled away to see that the thin strip of red had become as obvious as the red on Pikachu's cheeks. She was pouting at me. I simply winked at her before turning to leave. " I love you Ash." Serena spoke up. I turned my head to her for the last time. "I love you to Serena."
Then me and Pikachu headed out. Serena waved us off and Sylveon even came out to wave off Pikachu. It was a beautiful sight. But now I had to focus on trying to find something for Serena. I was lucky to get out of there. I don't think she realises I forgot about today and hopefully she hasn't caught on, I might just get out of this unscathed.
I walked about aimlessly trying to think of a gift. Pikachu would chirp in on occasion with somewhat helpful suggestions. Flowers? No, Serena is worth so much more then a simple bouquet. Chocolates? That seems a bit cliché. Gahhh. Why didn't I do this a week ago?
Then again, food isn't a bad idea. We walked past a large building called Kalos Kuisine renowned for its culinary delights. The best part is there was actually a designated floor for creating or cooking your own dishes. That gave me an idea. I would make something for Serena. That was so much more meaningful then a gift that is bought.
As we entered the building and made use of the elevator in the centre of the room, Pikachu began frowning. He must have had the same thought as me. When I was in Alola I sucked at cooking. I was always used to having someone along for our travels who excelled at food making. Serena has taught me some stuff but I'm no where near as good as her.
Either way, I was going to try. Especially if my relationship could be on the line. We made our exit from the elevator into a room filled with all sorts of various food stores and places filled with people cooking and baking. The smells that filled the air were intoxicating as they flooded our noses. Immediately, my stomach began to rumble and I felt a vibrating mass on my shoulder as well.
Pikachu had his nose so high in the air that he looked like he was about to fall of my shoulder. I chuckled at his entranced expression. And I could totally relate. But we were here for Serena, not other peoples dishes. I walked down the centre of the room towards a desk with a secretary. "Hello, what can we do for you?" The woman with dark black hair smiled at me.
"Hi, I was hoping to make a gift for my wife, its...uh our anniversary." I replied still feeling guilty about the whole situation. " Aw, how sweet. You must be a good husband." She is not helping me feel better. "Well, what kind of food di you have in mind for your wife?" She continued seeming to pick up on my emotional dilemma.
I had not given any thought to what I wanted to gift to Serena. This was all on a whim. But I think I should go for a classic. "Pokepuffs, several different kinds." I smiled more confidently. "Ah, like those made by the Kalos Queen?" "Hehe, Exactly." "Well, we have various instruction books for them." She said, handing me some cooking books.
"Very good Mr Ketchum." She had caught onto my hint. "I'm sure Serena will love them."
So I got to work. A few failed attempts passed by due to my sheer lack of experience. I knew I wouldn't get anywhere near as good a result as Serena. Especially in my first few tries. Eventually though, I actually managed to get some pokepuffs which looked genuinely edible and socially acceptable. Pikachu even seemed to positively sniff the air around the pokepuffs.
I decorated them with various kinds of icing. There were four in all. I had an orange and dark brown one with a small flaky substance on the top. Pikachu had one which was completely yellow and even had a small chocolate bolt. Under Loverchu's guidance, and he hates that nickname, Sylveon has a pink, white and light blue icing.
Serena's was perhaps my favourite. It was a double decker Pokepuff, blue icing and a water droplet made of blueberry on top. The blue matches her eyes which was my aim. Success! I had the secretary assist me in putting them in a box.
The walk home was so tense, if anything was to happen to these pokepuffs, I think I would have cried. But thankfully we made it. Upon entering, I was greeted by Serena who immediately became curious of the box which admittedly made me smirk. Pikachu got off my shoulder and nuzzled Sylveon lovingly who had also come to greet him.
"So, whats with the box Ash?" Serena asked curiously. I guess this is it. "Ok Serena, this is a gift for you. I made them myself, I hope you like them." I gave her the box which she happily accepted. When she opened the box, she put a hand in front of her mouth. I expected her to say something indicating surprise. Instead... "My lessons actually paid off..." I just simply stared at her.
"Are you gonna try one or continue to lovingly mock my cooking skills?" She giggled at me and then reached for the blue one. "Assuming this one is for me?" She queried. She knows me too well. "Yeah, that one was especially for you. They were all for you technically." "Technically?" I chuckled nervously while rubbing the bottom of my nose. Signature sign she caught me off guard.
Serena took a bite. When she chewed a couple of times and then faced hr head downwards I became very concerned. "Is it-" "Its delicious!" She squealed. I was so relieved. She quickly finished the rest of it. "Thank you Ash. Here." She said handing me the orange one. I grinned in gratitude knowing I was finally gonna be able to eat. Yet instinct took over. I broke the pokepuff in half and gave Serena the other half.
"But Ash, I already had one." I nodded. "Yeah." I noticed a small bit of icing on Serena's cheek. I rubbed it away with one finger and then ate it myself. Giving her another wink I said "But this was a gift for the most beautiful wife in the world." She blushed a crimson red once again. I then saw Pikachu sharing both his and Sylveon's pokepuffs with Sylveon. One half each.
Sylveon seemed to enjoy it just as much as Serena as she nuzzled Pikachu in thanks. Pikachu happily cooed in response. Jeez get a room. "So Ash." Serena started. I turned back to her. "Why did you do these all of a sudden?" Oh crap, this is it. "Well Serena... I had forgotten about....about our wedding anniversary!" I stuttered closing my eyes in shame.
When I opened my eyes, my vision set upon my finger and the ring which sat on it now meaningless in the light. A few moments passed of nerve-racking silence until Serena's voice broke the painful abyss of soundlessness.
"Oh that was today?" Did I hear that right? "Wait...what?" I started. "That was today? I guess I forgot to." She said with an innocent smile. She...she forgot as well. The relief that passed over me was so obvious I could have been swept away. "You forgot to?"
"I guess we are as bad as each other. I'm sorry I didn't get you anything Ash..." Serena mumbled looking down. I grabbed her chin and lifted her head back up. Placing one quick kiss on her lips, I smile at her. "Serena, the greatest gift you can give me is being with me forever." I spotted a single tear escape her eye. "I love you Ash Ketchum."
"I love you to Serena Ketchum." As we kissed, Pikachu and Sylveon embraced to.
That Night:
Suddenly the light switched on randomly which made me get up to a sitting position. Before I could react, Serena, Pikachu jumped onto my shoulder and Serena wrapped her arms around me and extended her phone out in front of us. The phone flashed towards us showing Serena to have taken a photo with us all in.
Serena put the phone forwards to show the screen. A picture of all of us there together. "Happy Anniversary Ash." Serena said snuggling to my neck as we both stared at the photo. "This is my gift to you. All of us together." "Better yet, happy Amourversary my love." I gave her one final kiss and then we both prepared to get back to sleep and let the night cast its spell once again so that we might get to see a new dawn...
Finished! Sorry for the wait, wanted a tad of comedy in this one. Hope you all enjoyed this. See you in the next one. ^_^
