chapter 26 | Softly
"You can show me..." I change my mind, weakly, and he leans towards me to put the dish on my lap and reveal what he spent some time on. A smile momentarily forms on my face at the sight of the heart-shaped sandwich. I melted and forgot about my supposed pain.
"If you find it ridiculous, tell me, I'll eat it," he dares to doubt and be bashful about this adorable gesture. I smile at him but press a kiss on his cheek, even though I know I should not. "Thank you, this is the cutest thing someone ever did for me," I do not hide my happiness and pleasure, and I take a look at what is inside. Some whipped cream and slices of strawberries.
This is simple but so meaningful to me, it makes me soft. I cannot keep this as a memory only, I grab my phone and take a picture of it to never forget the image of this, but he chuckles next to me. "Don't do that. I'm embarrassed."
"Why are you? This is so cute and pretty," I beam but drop my phone, and I bite into this sandwich to taste it, even though I do not want to ruin this heart. This is sweet but not too much, fluffy, this is so good. "I love it, Mister Jeon, thank you," I enjoy the taste and how great it feels to eat something and relax.
"I'm glad you do. You know..." he straightens his back and averts his eyes from mine, his hands holding one another. "Five months ago, on this exact same date, we met for the first time," he says, and I cannot even take my eyes off of him after hearing this. "And I want this day to be special, I don't know. Five months are enough to celebrate something important, right?" he smiles, tenderly, and my heart beats faster once he gazes into my eyes. I would not have expected him to consider this date as an important one, this touches me a lot.
"Take a break today, I want it to be a special one, so just relax and let me take care of everything. Okay?" he intertwines his fingers, not breaking the contact between us. My lips turn up, and I agree. "Good. I...Actually, I didn't want to go shopping just for Christmas, it was to enjoy our time together. I wanted to go out with you only, but then, I know Hajoon would find it weird and be suspicious. So, this was the best I found."
"It's okay, going out with you all will make my day for sure. I didn't even expect you to do anything, so no matter what it is, I'm happy," I tell him the truth but see through his features that it relieves him. "I'm glad to hear it."

11:10 am.
"Y/n," Hajoon asks for my attention as I am standing next to his dad, so I take a look at him. "Do you like it?" he holds a calico cat plushie, and I cannot hold back from smiling. "Yes, it's cute."
"Okay, if you find it pretty, then I buy it. This is my new friend," he hugs it and squeezes it against his chest, walking back towards us. My eyes go back on Mister Jeon to see what he is doing, carrying his baby, who is sleeping, with one arm while taking a closer look at a product. Not being discreet or subtle at all, I reduce the gap that keeps our bodies away from one another, and I go forth to look at this item too when the only thing I want is to have his body close to mine.
I thought I would be able to stand the distance that has been established for a clear reason, but I just cannot, this is too difficult after what happened. I need him as more than a man who cares and protects me. Love is a missing point, but that is the one I want.
"Do you think he would like it?" he checks every inch of the toy, but since Hajoon is right next to us, I provoke him. "Hajoon? Of course he would. This little boy would be happy with this," my eyes land on him as he has not let go of his plushie, and he glares at me. "You're lucky my dad is here," he sticks his middle finger up, but Mister Jeon turns around at the wrong time. "Or else what?" he almost sees it, but Hajoon managed to act innocent very quickly. "Nothing..." he fakes a smile.
"That's what I thought," he makes a decision and puts the toy in his shopping bag to leave this section, but Hajoon takes this opportunity to have his revenge and trips me up, causing me to hit the tiled floor and hurt myself right next to Mister Jeon.
"You—" he stops himself right away as he must have seen and heard me, the pain in one of my knees taking over the embarrassment I feel. "Are you fucking dumb?!" Mister Jeon cannot even hold back from cursing, and he leans towards me to check up on me, but I get back up on my feet on my own, some awful heat spreading through my face.
"I'm so sorry...I didn't mean to make you fall," Hajoon apologizes, this dumb boy who just humiliated me in front of his dad. "Are you okay?" Mister Jeon touches my arm, and I nod, no matter the embarrassment I feel and which might be worse than any kind of pain. "Why the hell would you do something like that?" he scolds his son again as I just rubbed my aching knees, and Hajoon shows some obvious guilt, feeling bad about what he did. "I'm sorry, I just wanted to joke with her..."
"It's fine," I reassure Mister Jeon who got a bit too worried. Despite what he just caused, he is adorable with his plushie in his arms, and the look he has on his face makes me feel weak. I do not like to see Mister Jeon get mad at him.
This tall man sighs at him after staring at him for long seconds full of wrath, and he gazes back at me again. "Are you sure you're okay? Did you hurt yourself?"
"No, I'm fine. Don't worry," I smile to make sure he believes me, but he breathes out sharply and peeks down at my knees. "You're not lying, are you?"
"No, I'm okay. Really," I repeat myself since this is not serious, and he trusts me. "Okay," he goes back on the way to another section, and I get by Hajoon's side as I can see that he feels bad. "Why are you making this face? I'm the one who ended on my knees in front of everyone."
"I just wanted to annoy you, not make you fall," he still has it on his conscience, so I try my best to make him forget about it since I know that the reason why he feels like that is because of how his dad reacted. "I'm not injured, so we don't care."
"Yeah..." he peeks at his dad as we are staying behind him. "I mean...that was probably the only way to make you fall for me...you know..." he jokes with me in a low voice, and I laugh. "That's a good one."
"Thank you," he smiles, but Mister Jeon turns around and lays his eyes on me. "Is there a store you want to go to?"
"Not really, I'm following you," I smile and walk next to him. "Sure? And isn't there anything you want to look at?"
"No, I'm just enjoying my time walking," I shake my head. I did not plan to buy anything but just have a good time outside with them, seeing the Christmas decoration. I do not need more than that.
"All right then, and you?" he asks to Hajoon, and this one speaks. "Can we go to the gaming store?" his gamer side shows up, and Mister Jeon acquiesces.
I have never spent some quality time like this with them, and this makes me feel like I am a part of their family. This feels really good.

7 pm.
'JUNGKOOK'S P.O.V'
"Hajoon," I lean over the back of the sofa as he is playing and focusing on his game. "Yeah?"
"Y/n invited me somewhere, so...we're both going to be out tonight, all right?" I lie to him, knowing this is necessary. I said that I would not do that earlier, but I just cannot help it, I want to share a private moment with her tonight, and since I cannot tell him I am the one who invited her to a restaurant, a lie is needed. If I tell him that she is the one who takes me to a place, that I do not know about, this will be less suspicious since he already noticed that she is very attached to me. "Okay..." the tone of his voice changes and lowers. "Where is it though?"
"I don't know, she didn't tell me about it," I tell another falsehood, and he takes it. "Hm...why does she go out with you only though...?" he does not express any happiness about it, as expected. I glance up at the TV screen and cross my arms. "I don't know. She told me she wanted to talk to me and thank me for what I've done for her until now. I hope this is not something serious."
"Hm. All right," he conceals the pain he must feel. I know he has feelings for her, I know he likes her, so seeing his crush hang out with another, who, in this case, is his father, must be horrible to stand. "Are you okay with this?" I ask a question that is clearly a stupid one, but he still nods, not telling the truth but keeping it to himself. "Yeah."
"Hey," I put my hands down on the back of the sofa, feeling some guilt and pain because of this. "She'll spend some time with you all alone as well. Don't assume anything, okay?"
"Hm," his head moves up and down, not even saying a word. I know he does not like this and feels hurt, but I do not have any control over this situation anymore.
I breathe out heavily but walk away to go back to the kitchen, and I go back to cooking for him. I wish I could tell him about everything without fearing the consequences, but I have already done too many mistakes to face this one right now. I need time, and nothing is certain anyway.
"Y/n!" Hajoon nearly yells in the living room, getting me to peek at him. "You're so pretty in this dress! You look like a woman."
"Do I usually look like a man?" she does not take it as a compliment and enters my sight, standing behind the right side of the sofa to look at my son, who, from the way that y/n looks in this red bodycon dress, must love it. I keep my eyes fixed on her, unable to take them off of her curves.
"Why are you acting dumb like that? You just look...different in this...like, in a good way. You're," he does not find the right words, making me smile as she has not gazed in my direction yet. "You know what I mean. You always wear sneakers, skirts, and dresses that are pretty but not formal. You look elegant..."
"Well, thank you," she giggles, probably feeling shy at the sound of those compliments she never likes to hear. Once she turns towards me to come closer, we both make eye contact, and I do not even hide the fact that I was staring.
She is gorgeous.
I smile at her and look her up and down, contemplating her body in this clothing that fits every inch of her. "Do you like it?" she hides her arms behind her back, and I tuck my hands in the pockets of my pair of trousers, I take another look at her body and uncontrollably lick my lips. "You're beautiful."
"You think so? I thought I looked..." she glances down and touches her stomach. "...squeezed into it."
"What are you saying? You look amazing, I don't regret buying it," I keep my hands to myself as much as my self-control allows me to, and I stir into the pan to not succumb. "Oh, about that. I haven't removed the tag so that you can return it tomorrow."
"I won't do that. This is a dress that you'll wear for a five-month anniversary, and this means a lot to me, so I won't return it. Come here," I put the wooden spoon down and gesture her to step forth. She obeys without grumbling, and I hold her by the hips to turn her around. "Where is the tag?"
"This is expensive, Mister—"
"I asked you a question," I ignore her words, and she sighs. "Just at the top of the zipper," she gives me what I wanted, so I pull the zipper down without going too far, and I grab the tag, take hold of a pair of scissors, and I cut it. I close the zipper now that it is gone. "There you go," I walk past her to throw this out, but once I head towards her, she dares to throws me a look that is similar to a glare.
"Don't give me that look. This is disrespectful," I turn the induction stove off, and she smiles but lowers her eyes. "Good girl," I tease her in a whisper, but she shoots her eyes up when I averted my eyes from her on purpose.
I step back to take a dish out but take a secretive look at her, and I catch her blushing and smiling. Her attention not being on me out of shyness, I lose control and have a glimpse of her sweetheart neckline that displays enough of her cleavage. This is exactly the type of neckline that I love the most, this is delicate but so teasing, it is perfect. It makes a woman look so sexy but chic at the same time.
I feel an urge to kiss her neck, but I do not even have the right to do it.
This is crazy how fast my heart is beating only because I see her standing before me. "Tell me when you're ready to go," I speak in an undertone for her to be the only one to hear me, and she finally sets her eyes on mine to not deprive me of those pretty ones. "I am."
"All right, I'm going to take a shower and get changed," I cover the top of the pan to keep the food warm, and she nods to me. "Take all the time you need, I'm waiting."
I give her a soft look and leave without putting a single finger on her.
