basketballs and macarons (brightwin)

Bright's every move on the basketball court was a mesmerizing display of agility and grace. He seemed to glide across the floor, twisting and turning with the fluidity of a dancer on roller skates. With a flick of his wrist, he sent the ball soaring toward the net, leaving the opposing team in stunned disbelief. A triumphant cry of victory escaped his lips as he landed back on the ground, his forehead glistening with sweat.

"I won again, Mork! Time for your treat," Bright grinned as he made his way toward the spectator seats. He reached into his bag, retrieving a water bottle and drenching himself, the cool liquid bringing relief to his overheated body.

"Yeah, whatever, boss!" Mork rolled his eyes and playfully punched Bright's shoulder. "You play awesome, bro! It's never boring to watch you pull off those stunts."

Bright's smile radiated with pride, but his attention was soon captured by a familiar face in the bleachers. That guy from the baking club, accompanied by a group of enthusiastic girls, had been a constant presence at their basketball practices and games.

"What's up with that cute guy from the baking club?" Gun asked Bright as he approached with other teammates.

"Yeah, he's always here, watching our basketball practices and games," Mike chimed in, winking at the giggling girls nearby.

Bright shrugged, his gaze still locked on the boy who had just left the bleachers with a girl. "Maybe he just enjoys basketball."

"But that boy is indeed cute, isn't he?" Mike leaned over Bright's shoulder, a mischievous glint in his eyes.

Bright's heart raced at the thought, and he replied with a nonchalant, "Maybe?"

---

Win couldn't contain the excitement bubbling within him as he watched Bright's yet another impressive performance on the basketball court. He felt his heart threaten to leap out of his chest at any moment, and his face hurt from the constant smile that graced his lips.

"He was looking at you? Oh my god!" Love squealed, unable to contain her excitement.

Win nodded, his voice tinged with joy. "Yeah, he was."

"And did you give him the macarons you prepared yesterday?" Love's enthusiasm reached new heights.

But Win's smile faded as he admitted, "No."

"Why not?" Love's pitch increased, drawing the attention of nearby onlookers.

"Geez, Love, lower your voice!" Win groaned, trying to contain the rising blush on his cheeks.

"Sorry," Love grinned mischievously. "But seriously, why didn't you?"

Win let out a sigh. "It seems pointless now, Love. He's so popular, a team captain. And me? I'm just a nobody. Why would he talk to me or accept my gifts?"

Love was having none of it. "But he looked at you, Win! He never looks at anyone!! Besides, he accepts every gift from all his admirers."

Win's sulk deepened. "Only to share them with his teammates."

"Oh, don't sulk, Win. Your macarons are the best! He'd die to taste them," Love declared, huffing in exasperation.

Win couldn't help but smile at her unwavering confidence. "Thanks, Love, but I don't think I can ever approach someone so unapproachable."

"Shut up! You're giving him that box tomorrow, or else I'll give it to him myself with a love letter on your behalf!"

"Love!" Win's face turned crimson, his embarrassment reaching new heights.

"What? I just want to see my best friend with his boyfriend as soon as possible. Is that so wrong?" Love shrugged, her chuckles filling the air.

Win's face reddened even more as he muttered, "Shut up."

---

"Hello!"

Win's heart nearly jumped out of his chest as he turned to find Bright Vachirawit Chivaaree standing before him, a genuine smile on his face.

"Uh, hello!" Win managed a nervous smile, feeling the heat rise in his cheeks.

"I see you here every day. Would you mind if I sit here? Those girls over there don't look trustworthy," Bright said, scratching his neck, his voice warm and inviting.

"S-sure!" Win scooted over, making room for Bright, his pulse racing.

"I see you here almost every day. You must really like basketball, don't you?" Bright inquired, his eyes fixed on Win.

Win nodded, his heart pounding loudly. He wondered if Bright could hear the frantic rhythm of his heart. "Yeah, I do. Plus," he hesitated for a moment before adding, "I like how you play", and berated himself immediately as the words tumbled out.

Bright's face lit up with appreciation, his rosy lips forming a beautiful smile. "Thank you so much! You're my fan?"

Win blushed once more, the color deepening on his cheeks. "I'm more like an admirer, actually."

Bright nodded in understanding. "I see."

The atmosphere was charged with nervous energy as Win gathered his courage and blurted out, "Um, do you like macarons?"

Bright's eyes sparkled with interest. "Of course I do! I love them!"

Win couldn't believe his luck. "I made a few, sort of an experiment."

Bright's curiosity was piqued.

"You make macarons? Can I taste them?"

Win's heart fluttered with hope as he replied, "Sure!" He handed Bright a box filled with his carefully crafted macarons.

Bright's eyes landed on the label, and he read it aloud, "Souri? You own a shop?"

Win nodded, feeling a mixture of pride and embarrassment. "My father does, actually. I experiment with flavors."

A genuine smile spread across Bright's face as he commented, "You're — that's so cool." He couldn't resist trying one of the macarons. "This is awesome!"

Win's heart swelled with happiness as he replied, "Thank you so much!"

Bright, now smitten by both the macarons and their maker, decided to hide the box from his teammates. "I can't eat all of them right now. I need to hide them from my teammates, or they might snatch them," he muttered to himself, voice almost like a whisper but Win heard it all too clearly.

Win couldn't help but giggle at Bright's predicament. "I'll bring you more boxes if you want."

Bright's eyes lit up with excitement. "That would be awesome! What's your name, by the way? I forgot to ask."

Win hesitated for a moment before answering, "I'm Win."

Bright extended his hand, introducing himself with a warm smile. "I'm Bright. You probably already knew that."

Win shook Bright's hand, their eyes locking for a moment, and a spark of connection passed between them. "That I do," Win giggled nervously.

Bright couldn't help but think that Win was incredibly cute.

"Win, why don't you join us to play today? It'll be fun," Bright suggested, wrapping his arm around Win's shoulder in a friendly manner.

Win's heart skipped a beat at the proximity, and even though Bright was covered in basketball gear, he could feel the warmth radiating from him. Electric currents seemed to jolt through his body.

"N-no thanks!" Win blurted out, his nerves getting the best of him. "I need to be in class right now. I'll see you tomorrow." And with that, he turned and ran off.

"Huh?" Bright blinked looking at the retreating figure, utterly confused.

---

Win continued to run away from Bright's invitations to play because Win was too shy to let Bright know he didn't even know the 'B' of basketball. He continued leaving Bright perplexed and a little dejected each time.

But one day, Win had finally reached his breaking point. He couldn't keep running away from his feelings any longer. He needed to confess. So, as the sun began its descent, casting a warm, golden glow across the campus, Win found himself under the same tree where he often watched Bright play. He couldn't wait any longer.

With his heart pounding louder than ever, he gathered his courage and confessed, "Bright, I... I love you."

His words hung in the air, filled with hope and vulnerability. Before Bright could respond, Win turned and ran away, the weight of his confession heavy on his shoulders.

Bright couldn't believe his ears. It took him a moment to register what had happened. Win had confessed his feelings, and Bright felt a rush of emotions he couldn't ignore. He knew he had to find Win and make things right.

But alas, he was too late. He couldn't find the latter until two more weeks. When he finally saw Win, it was after his basketball practice that day. Win sitting under the same tree, his face buried in his hands. Bright knelt in front of him, gently lifting Win's chin to meet his gaze.

"Win?" Bright began.

Sensing Bright there, Win panicked and stood up ready to run until Bright pinned him to that tree stopping him.

"I am not letting you run away anymore", he shouted.

"No, I am sorry. I don't want to be rejected, please!!" Win squeezed his eyes close.

"Win, I should have said this earlier," Bright began, his voice softened, filled with tenderness. "I love you too. I've cherished every moment we've shared, the way you make me smile, and the macarons you make."

Win snapped open his eyes, tears welled up in Win's eyes as he looked into Bright's warm and sincere gaze. "Really?"

"Absolutely," Bright confirmed.

His voice filled with wonder, Win spoke in a shaky voice, "I can't believe it. I thought you were unapproachable".

Bright smiled, his fingers gently wiping away a tear from Win's cheek. "Sometimes, people put up walls to protect themselves. I guess I did that too until you came into my life."

Win gave a tearful smile earning a smile from the latter as well. "Can I kiss you?" Bright asked.

Win nodded immediately, his fluffy hair bouncing subtly. Bright didn't waste a second to lean down and put his lips on him. Win slowly kissed back beneath the golden sun, sighing in contentment and it felt like the start of something beautiful.
