~ Luciana's POV ~
"Alessio this isn't going to work."
Once again my husband decided to ignore me and continued trying to fit the two pieces together. I rolled my eyes in frustration and leaned back in the arm chair where I'd been sitting for the last two hours watching Alessio trying to make the crib.
"Just ask Tomasso to do it when he comes over later. He's good at this stuff." These words seemed to be the last thing Alessio wanted to hear from me because his head suddenly shot up and he gave me a glare. "Why didn't you marry him then?"
"Maybe because he's already married." Even though I was clearly joking, Alessio still scoffed and turned away from me, focussing on the instructions in his hand once again. He was so adamant to build the two cribs for our twins which were due any day soon, even though he was absolutely useless at DIY. I asked him what kind of millionaire builds their own furniture, and his response was simple.
'I'm a father now Luciana. This is what fathers do'
I wanted to hit him so hard when he said that. I didn't really have a reason because it was cute but at that time I was 33 weeks pregnant with our twins and he was talking too much.
"Mama!" I jumped at the sound of Alana calling my name, looking over at the door of the new nursery Alessio and I were in, to see her standing there with a frustrated expression on her face and her nose all scrunched up.
For a three year old she had just as many mood swings as her father. Which was a lot.
"Yes baby?"
Alessio glanced up again with a frown on his face when Alana started walking over to me through all the pieces of wood, in the process stepping on the instructions he was following while trying to build the crib.
"I'm hungry mama." I smiled at her, running my hand through her dark brown curly hair, which was identical to Alessio's just way more curly than his hair. Neither of us had curly hair at all really, but for some reason Alana's hair was untameable sometimes.
"Maybe you should have finished your breakfast then." I couldn't help but laugh at Alessio's sassy reply which Alana just ignored. The two of them get along so well except when it comes to eating. Alana hated anyone feeding her apart from Tomasso, he was the only person who was able to get her to eat calmly.
The annoying part is he's been around a little less lately since his wedding, so Alessio and I have been having a hard time getting Alana to eat. Which is another reason why right now Alessio just hates anyone talking about his bestfriend.
He and Tomasso are still as close as ever, which just meant they bickered even more. Especially with them both changing so much since Alessio has been spending more time with me during the last few months of my pregnancy and Tomasso has been spending time with his wife.
"Alana we're having lunch soon, once your papa finally finishes the silly crib. Just sit and play for a few minutes."
Those few minutes turned into another hour when Alessio had finally completed the crib he was as working on. I would have been overjoyed to finally have it done, if there wasn't a huge brown box on the other side of the room with the other crib inside waiting to be built.
"Food now?" I nodded my head causing Alana to grin and she stood to her feet running over to Alessio with her arms out, which was her way of telling him to carry her. "One second Alana."
Once again her nose was scrunched up as she watched Alessio come over to me first to help me up out of the chair I was sitting in. Just as I was about to thank him for helping me up, a loud splash echoed through the room causing both Alessio and I to freeze instantly. My eyes moved down towards the large clear puddle on the floor before I looked back at Alessio who's eyes were wide. Probably out of fear.
"Alessio..." When he didn't respond to me, I had to shake him a few times to get him to snap out of whatever trans he was in.
Yep, definitely fear.
"Alessio you need to call Tomasso." When he didn't reply I let out a deep breath and stepped around him going over to Alana who was watching the two of us with a smile on her face, oblivious to what was happening.
"Why the hell is it always him? He's not that special-"
"Alessio! Now isn't the time." When he heard the tinge of pain in my voice from the discomfort in my stomach, he finally seemed to come back to Earth. I was vaguely aware of him calling Tomasso, so that he could come and look after Alana while Alessio came with me to the hospital. Even though we planned this whole thing weeks ago, Alessio still had a problem with calling Tomasso and from what I could hear, Tomasso was throwing his own fit on the otherside of the line.
Somehow we managed to get to the hospital and after a very long, painful four hours of labour I finally gave birth to our first baby. Even though I was absolutely terrified for the birth since I didn't experience a natural birth with Alana, and that one was the most traumatic experience I've ever had, this birth wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. Sure it was freaking painful and I'd still be scared to ever do this again, but it wasn't a case of life and death, which I'm grateful for.
After screaming and crying and holding onto Alessio's hand for dear life I finally pushed out the first baby and then within what felt like seconds I felt the contractions come back for the second one. I didn't even get to hold the first baby they were that intense. Alessio cut the cord and they took our baby away to get it cleaned up and checked over while I delivered the second one.
Ten minutes later I finally gave birth to our second baby. Once again I didn't get to hold this one since they did exactly the same thing, wanting to make sure both of them were okay and that I was also okay knowing the history I've had with my last pregnancy.
"Congratulations Mrs and Mr Del Russo, you have two healthy baby boys."
In that moment I was vaguely aware of all the nurses running around to make sure we were all okay, while I just held the baby who was placed in my arms and Alessio held the other. It was the most surreal moment of my life, staring at the two identical babies in front of us, who were just the perfect mix of Alessio and I.
We made them. The fact that it was even possible for us to make such beautiful little babies was crazy. In that moment I knew that no matter what happened, if we did ever have another baby or if it was just going to be Alana and the twins, I knew my heart would always be full of love for them. It would always feel complete now.
They were just perfect.
"I think we should call the oldest Lorenzo and the younger one Leonardo." I glanced over at Alessio who murmured quietly to me, referring back to the conversation we had a few weeks ago when we were deciding the names of the twins. I nodded my head, running my thumb over Leonardo's soft cheek. "I agree."
Alessio turned to look at me, love and pride shining in his eyes as he leaned down and pressed his lips to mine. "I'm so proud of you amore mio. I love you Luciana."
"I love you too."

"They're here Luciana, are you almost ready?" Alessio whispered quietly next to me after coming into our bedroom where I was currently feeding the twins. It had only been four days since we had them and four days since I saw Alana too. Thankfully Alessio's dad offered to take her for the last couple of days so that I could recover for a couple of days before having to introduce her to her little brothers.
"Yeah just take Leo for a second I'm almost done." I gestured towards the baby I was holding while also trying to feed the other one, but thankfully Alessio took Leo from me while I finished feeding Enzo. Alessio took the baby in the red baby grow from my arms, staring down at him absentmindedly as I finished up.
I could tell he was nervous about Alana meeting her younger brothers for the first time, she definitely wasn't going to like not being the centre of attention anymore, so her reaction today would tell us exactly what we were dealing with. Also, Alessio had always had this soft spot for Alana. Of course he was her father so he loved her, but there was something else too. He never ever wanted to see her upset or sad, she had him wrapped, extremely tightly, around her little finger. He would do absolutely anything for her to stop her even frowning in sadness.
Hopefully she wouldn't cry or get angry. She really was the sweetest little girl, but she also took after he father with her temper. Anything was possible.
"Ready?" I nodded my head and put my shirt back on, holding Enzo in my arms while Alessio carried Leo. I followed behind him as we took the twins downstairs, passing the nursery on the way down. Tomasso came over to help Alessio finish the second crib the day before I was released from hospital so that the nursery was finished for the twins when they came home. During the night they slept in our bedroom in the Moses baskets but for most of the day they were in their nursery if they were sleeping which they were doing a lot of.
I missed the first month of Alana's life and I can't help but feel like I've been given a second chance to enjoy it now that I have two newborns instead of one. It sounds weird I know, but it's just something that occurred to me. Knowing I missed the first month of her life still hurts whenever I think about it, but Alessio was great with helping me to deal with all of that.
I was so nervous for Alana's first birthday, it came just before we moved to Sicily, only around a week after that whole thing happened with Giuseppe and Alessio's mom. The fact it turned out that it was actually Alessio's mom who was the traitor was gold for me, I didn't stopped teasing Alessio about it for months once he'd gotten over the shock of it. Eventually I had to stop though when he almost lost it one day.
Anyway, he was amazing when it came to dealing with the one year anniversary of my coma on the same day as Alana's birthday. Before she woke up in the morning we stayed in bed and we talked about it, agreeing that it was a hard day for him too but after all of the pain we went through we got the most amazing little girl out of it and we should just spend the day celebrating our first year with her.
Neither of us acknowledged the fact that the year was actually one of the worst years we've had, with everything going on with Giuseppe and stuff. We just focused on the positives which was Alana and us getting back together, or together for the first time since we were never really a couple in the first place.
Anyway, we threw her a little birthday party at our house in New York but it really was just Alessio's family and friends and Daliah. After that a couple of days later we moved to Sicily and Tomasso followed a few weeks later with Daliah and then the rest of Alessio's family came aswell.
Ever since then we've just been spending as much time as we can together while Alessio wasn't working. We got married six months after we moved here and then I fell pregnant with the twins around a year later. It's been a crazy few years but honestly I wouldn't change any of it for the world. Moving to Sicily was the best thing we could have done. It was like breathing a breath of fresh air, away from New York and away from all those bad memories.
Of course some weren't all bad - Alessio and I did have some good moments together, we wouldn't have fallen in love if we didn't. But I guess that little journey of ours could have gone a lot better. Maybe if he didn't kidnap me and we just happened to meet at a coffee shop or something like other normal people do, life would have been much more simple. But still, this was our story, it was our journey and it's what made us into the couple we are now.
Some parts were horrible, we both made so many mistakes and there were too many people involved in our relationship to count, but in the end we worked out.
I married my bestfriend, and even after everything that's happened, I couldn't be happier and I know he feels the same.
Just as we reached the bottom of the stairs I reached out and took Alessio's hand in mine to stop him before we went inside. When he turned around I stepped closer to him, being careful of the two babies between us. "Ti amo." (I love you)
Alessio chuckled softly at my words since he for some reason always found it amusing when I spoke in Italian to him. He leaned his head down closer to me, whispering to me before he pressed his lips to mine. "I love you too amore mio."
Once we made it in to the living room, I followed behind Alessio, aware of all the eyes that were on us. My eyes first landed on Daliah and Alessio's sisters before drifting across to Tomasso who was holding Alana in his arms. The moment her eyes met mine a smile broke out onto her little face and she reached her arms out in my direction.
"Mama!" I couldn't help but laugh at the excitement on her face as Alessio and I went over to her, leaning down I pressed a kiss to her forehead. "Hi baby."
Eventually her eyes moved towards the babies in our arms and a small frown made its way onto her face as she studied them for a second before pointing at Enzo who was in my arms. "Polly."
Both Alessio and I laughed at this as Tomasso shifted her in his arms, a soft smile on his face when she referred to the baby doll she's been obsessed with ever since Tomasso gave it to her. "We've already put Polly to sleep, that's not her."
The cutest confused frown made its way onto her face when Tomasso said this.
"These are your brothers Alana. This is Enzo and Leo." I said the words softly to her, smiling as did while she took in the information. It was completely silent for a moment until she finally spoke.
"Oh."
That's all she said and then she lost interest in them. How that was even possible I will never understand, but my daughter really didn't care anymore about the two babies who were half asleep in front of her and instead she went back to playing with the toy clutched in her hands.
I'm guessing this introduction is going to need a part two.
"I'm sorry I haven't come to see you earlier, I've just been so busy-"
"Honestly Tomasso it's fine, don't worry about it, I understand what it's like getting married better than anyone." He gave me a small smile before he kissed my cheek. After he turned towards Alessio to congratulate him, while I went over to Daliah who was giving me her usual grin.
"You look amazing for someone who's just pushed out two huge babies." Rolling my eyes at her I handed over the 'huge' twin in my arms when she held her arms out. "Don't worry, I'm sure you and Tomasso will be having your own soon the way you spend every moment together."
"Calm down we only got married a few months ago, we're still in the honeymoon phase." I chuckled at this knowing this honeymoon phase was going to last a lot longer than I originally thought. Honestly I found their relationship baffling.
After that day Daliah ran out of my kitchen with the 'flu', she avoided Tomasso for as long as she could while he got over what happened with Thea. Eventually they started speaking again just before they moved to Sicily and of course you would think a fresh start would be good for them. But it wasn't.
They argued more than ever when they got here until eventually one day something just changed and they were all over each other. Within a year they were engaged and six months later they were married. From what I heard from Alessio, the change was because they had to dance together at our wedding as the best man and maid of honour. Of course when he told me that I was so excited while my husband just didn't care.
"I'm glad you're happy Daliah." I squeezed her free hand in mine while I gave her a smile and that gesture was enough for her to understand everything I was trying to tell her without getting soppy in front of a room full of people.
I know the two of us had a rocky few years but honestly, she was and always would be my bestfriend. After all, she was the reason Alessio and I met.
"I think Enzo is upset." Daliah rolled her eyes when Tomasso came over to me holding a crying Leo in his arms with a slightly worried expression on his face while Alessio came following behind his bestfriend with an irritated expression on his face.
"I told you the other one is called Enzo. This one is Leo."
"How the hell am I supposed to remember? They look the same." Alessio narrowed his eyes at Tomasso, taking a step closer to him. "Say that again and I'll take that rattle over there and shove it-"
"Really? You're threatening him with a toy?" I rose an eyebrow at him causing him to shrug and take a step back from Tomasso. "You're the one who said we weren't allowed to threaten each other with guns."
Both Tomasso and Daliah laughed at this while I just shook my head, a smile tugging at my lips.
Honestly, you could take the man out of the the mafia for a few days but you could never take the mafia out of the man. Alessio always would live and breathe the mafia, he did when we met and he still does now. The only thing that has changed is that he doesn't do it all to be the best anymore, he doesn't do it be on top.
He does it all for his family. All for us.
I took Leo from Tomasso and leaving the living room and going into the kitchen instead. I bounced Leo in my arms hoping to stop him from going into a full on crying fit and screaming the house down. When one twin starts crying the other one starts and honestly if they weren't my babies and I wasn't legally responsible for them I would honestly just walk out the house they're that loud.
Seconds later Alessio was behind me with Alana next to him and Enzo in his arms. It only took me a minute to calm Leo down while Alessio just watched me, holding tightly only Alana's hand.
"Why are you here? Everyone's in the living room Alessio I'll only be a minute." I rose an eyebrow at him while he just stood there with a smile on his face like his whole family weren't waiting for us in the other room.
"Why would I be in there when you're in here, Mrs Del Russo?" He gave me a small smirk and a wink before lifting Alana up and putting her on the kitchen counter. Yes he was strong enough to hold a new born with one arm and lift a three year old with the other.
Meanwhile here I am struggling to be able to hold both the babies at once, but I guess I did just give birth.
It was silent for a few moments while I calmed Leo down, doing my best to talk quietly to him so that he wouldn't cry again.
"Perfetto. Così perfetto." (Perfect. So perfect) I glanced up at Alessio who was staring at us, a soft smile on his face and his eyes shining with unshed tears, the love and pride clear on his face. I stepped closer to him, placing my hand on his cheek as I gave him a small smile before I pressed my lips to his. I stepped back again and looked around at our little family; Alana on the counter next to me, Leo in my arms and Enzo in Alessio's before I finally met his eyes again.
My bestfriend, my husband and the love of my life.
This was the first time our little family were all alone, together. Just the five of us. Our beautiful family and, yes, it was just that. Exactly that.
Perfect.
"It is."
