Chapter 3 - Who Is This?
4 months later
~Luciana's POV~
"I'll see you later baby." I smiled at Jake who was still laying on the bed, his arms behind his head, watching my every move.
"Text me when you finish work and I'll come and see you." I nodded and made my way over to him, placing a kiss on his lips. "Hopefully I'll be done early, but it's not likely."
He just rolled his eyes at my words and sat up, placing a hand on the back of my head to pull in me in for another kiss.
"They work you too hard." I chuckled softly while pecking his lips one last time before leaving his apartment.
The last four months have been crazy. Absolutely hectic.
I wish.
Honestly, I feel like that somewhat 36 hours I spent being kidnapped by Alessio, then sleeping with him, was the most exciting thing that's ever happened to me.
After that I pretty much went back to my usual life. Working from 9 in the morning until late in the evening everyday and spending weekends with my friends or alone. I met Jake shortly after that exciting weekend and he asked me to be his girlfriend a few weeks later.
I've always tried to avoid anyone who I would consider to be dangerous after the way I grew up with my father and Jake is exactly what I've always wanted in a boyfriend. He's sweet, kind, caring and he's good to look at too. But the best thing is that he's absolutely nothing like Alessio.
He's not in the mafia. He's just normal, with a normal job as a sales consultant. Nothing dangerous.
So I would say right now my personal life is going well, but work...is just crap.
On top of an insane work load I have to deal with rude people too.
"Lucinda, you need to go through all these too." I looked up just in time to see Melanie, my boss's bitchy assistant, drop a stack of papers on my desk, almost knocking over my third coffee of the day.
"It's Luciana." I shook my head at her when she sent me a smirk and left my office, purposely leaving the door wide open - something which she knows I absolutely hate.
Ever since I had my...encounter, with Alessio, for some reason I haven't minded people calling me Luciana - well I just don't correct them anymore if they do. No one says it as nice as he did though, that's for sure. But one time my boss called me Luciana in front of this bitch, she's been taking the piss out of my name ever since.
Apart from Daliah, the only other person who doesn't know my full name is Jake, only because I wanted to keep my past as far away from our relationship as I could. That means he doesn't know about my name, where I came from and anything to do with my father. All he knows is that my father was half Italian hence my surname Donato, but he thinks he died in a car crash when I was young.
I let out a sigh and started getting through the rest of the work I'd just been given to do, ignoring the already large pile next to me waiting for my attention. It's like the people here don't work, all they do is give me their work to do.
I finally managed to get the work done before taking some papers to my boss to sign. I once again slipped my feet into my painful shoes and made my way down the hall to his office. I knocked on the door and awaited his call to come inside which followed seconds later.
I pushed open the door but stopped in my tracks at the sight of someone sitting opposite my boss. It was the same guy who had been hanging around our office a lot recently coming to see our boss.
I'd never spoken to him before, but I did notice him coming in and out of here since my office is right by the elevators. I can't lie and say he wasn't good looking, because he was. But he has this aura about him that just told me he was bad news. Why? I had no clue.
"Sir, I just need you to sign these papers for me." My boss just waved his hand to call me over to his desk where I placed the papers down for him. I was waiting for him to sign them but obviously being an overly cautious boss he decided to read everything. I was lost in my own thoughts when I was suddenly brought back down to earth when I felt someone place a hand on my ass.
I turned my head to see the guy sitting his chair, giving me a disgusting smirk while keeping his hand firmly gripping my ass.
"Aleksei-" Before my boss could say a word, Aleksei here, cut him off and instead spoke to me.
"When you're done working you can come home with me if you want?" His thick, Russian accent unexpectedly caught me off guard for a second. I let a small scoff leave my lips as I stepped way from him causing his hand to fall down next to him, a smirk still on his lips. "You're a pig."
I turned back to my boss who was now glaring at me for the way I just spoke to someone who's probably important. I rose an eyebrow at him waiting for him to say a word to me, there's not much he could say to be honest. His guest just violated my personal space, I had every right to call him whatever I wanted.
Once he was done signing the papers I snatched them out of his and sent them both one last glare before leaving the office slamming the door behind me.
Half an hour later on his way to the elevators Aleksei stopped outside my door sending me the same disgusting smirk. "You've got ten seconds to leave before I call security."
My words just caused a deep chuckle to leave his lips and he raised his hands in surrender. "I'm not here to cause any trouble Luciana." I narrowed my eyes at his sudden use of my full name.
"I just came to apologise for my behaviour earlier, it was very ungentlemanly of me."
I scoffed at his choice of words, waiting for him to finish whatever he was saying so that he could just leave me alone.
"Anyway I should be going. Say hi to Alessio for me won't you?" My eyes snapped to his at the mention of a name I would prefer not to hear for as long as I possibly could. Aleksei sent me a small smirk followed by a wink as he left my office going down the hallway.
The whole thing sent my mind into overdrive as soon as it happened. I wasn't aware anyone even knew about what happened with Alessio and I, sure we went to that gala together but everyone there was Italian, not Russian like he was. There was just something wrong about it, he shouldn't have known about it.
If he knew who Alessio was, that probably means he's involved in some sort of organised crime too. Probably part of the Russian mafia. I mean that's just my luck isn't it? First I attract the Italian mafia, and now the Russian mafia.
I spent the rest of the day right up until the moment I entered my apartment thinking about whether to tell Alessio what happened. Aleksei obviously only said that to me thinking I would go and tell Alessio, but if I didn't, it could come back to bite me in the ass.
I let out a sigh when the sound of the doorbell ringing took me away from staring at Alessio's number on my screen. I locked my phone and put it down before going to open the door finding Jake standing there with a small smile on his face. His smile dropped when he saw the look on my face and his arms instantly came out to give me a hug.
"Lucy what's wrong?" I shook my head and wrapped my arms around his waist letting out a sigh. "Nothing, I'm just exhausted. I have a lot on my mind." I pulled myself out of his arms and let him in before closing the door to my apartment.
"Is it work stuff?" I just nodded in response to his question obviously not being able to tell him the truth. If I told him I was stressed because the guy I happened to sleep with months ago was the leader of the Italian mafia and now it's possible his enemies are coming back to haunt me, he would probably break up with me.
"It's always work Jake." I let out a nervous laugh and made my way into my kitchen with him following close behind me. "How about I cook you dinner while you go and relax, take your mind off stuff?"
I sent him a grateful smile before wrapping my arms around his waist once again in a hug. I pulled away from him and pecked his lips softly.
"Thank you, you're the best."

I spent my evening with Jake just relaxing, trying to forget about everything that happened earlier that, and as soon as I broke out the wine, all was forgotten.
Until this morning of course. Now I have a banging headache and my problems still haven't gone away.
I honestly don't know why I always think drinking will take away the problem. It just makes it worse the next morning yet I do it all the time.
I looked down at my phone, my thumb hovering over the number Alessio saved into my contacts still in two minds about wether to call him.
What if it makes me seem desperate?
But I have a boyfriend now.
Maybe he thinks I just want his attention?
But we both agreed it was a one time thing.
What if he gets angry if I disturb him?
It could be important.
What if it's not important?
Then he'll get angry.
Even after hours of contemplating all the possibilities of what could happen when I did finally click on his number, I seemed to have missed one of the possibilities out.
I bit lip listening to the dial tone when eventually it stopped and his deep voice came through the phone.
"Hello?" I felt my heart rate increase when I heard his voice, suddenly forgetting the whole reason I called him.
"Alessio?" The line went silent for a moment before he spoke again, his Italian accent sending shivers down my spine. "Who is this?"
"Luciana.." I waited for him to respond, but he didn't. I could hear shuffling on the other side of the line, but he didn't respond. For some reason every second that passed, hurt even more than the last. "You don't remember me."
My words lingered in the air for a moment before he finally spoke.
"Sorry I was-" I quickly cut him off not wanting to hear whatever he had to say. "Forget it. It doesn't matter. I didn't think you would forget so quickly but obviously it really meant nothing to you."
I hung up before he could say anything else, tossing my phone onto my desk in front of me.
I don't why I expected him to remember me, I guess I just didn't think he would forget. The thought never crossed my mind that he would forget. But why would he remember me? I wasn't anything special to him, clearly.
I let out a sigh of frustration when my eyes began to well up. The last thing I wanted was to cry over someone like him, and it just frustrated me even more that he had this effect on me. Even when I had a boyfriend, a freaking one night stand from four months ago could make me react this way.
It's funny because I went through all the outcomes in my head, but I seemed to miss out the one I never thought would happen.
What if he's already forgotten me?
Then it's going to hurt like a bitch.
~ Alessio's POV ~
I let out a sigh when I heard my phone ring somewhere underneath all my papers scattered across my desk. I finally found it, frowning when I saw it was an unknown number.
No one would know this number unless they were someone I knew personally. I hardly ever handle business over the phone myself, usually Tomasso or Rafael speak to people on the phone for me. I had better things to be doing.
A knock sounded at my door while I held my phone in my hands contemplating wether to answer it or not. Like I said, if it was someone important I would have had their number saved into my phone. I let out a sigh before hitting answer and calling the person into my office.
"Hello?" I waited for the other person to answer when my eyes landed on my father sending me a stern look, probably because I was making him wait. "Alessio?" I frowned at the soft feminine voice on the other side while my dad gestured towards the papers sprawled across my desk, reminding me that he was here for some important documents that he needed before we left to go to the airport.
"Who is this?"
"Alessio hurry up, we're already going to be late as it is." I let out a sigh of frustration and quickly put my phone down, gathering the few documents my father needed passing them to him. He rolled his eyes at me before leaving my office causing me to let out a sigh. I picked my phone up again, getting back to the conversation at hand.
"Sorry I was-" Before I could finish my sentence she cut me off, her tone a lot harsher than it was before. "Forget it. It doesn't matter. I didn't think you would forget so quickly but obviously it really meant nothing to you."
I frowned when I heard the line go dead, before glancing down at my phone to confirm that she had in-fact hung up on me.
Not many people hung up on me. Especially women.
The sound of my door opening caught my attention and I looked up at Tomasso who was staring at me with amusement in his eyes as he came over to my desk. "What's got you so confused?"
I shook my head and put my phone down, running a hand over my face. "Some woman just called me, I put my phone down for like ten seconds to sort my father's papers out then when I answered it again she just blew up on me and hung up. Something about forgetting her."
As soon as I finished telling him what happened Tomasso burst into laughter causing me to glare at him. It took him a minute to calm down before he shook his head and wiped his eyes. "Bro that's funny. Sucks to be you doesn't it?"
I rolled my eyes at his comment and stood to my feet when I saw that it was coming up to 11am, realising that that's why Tomasso was here since we had a meeting to attend with my father in Paris.
I was currently in the process of taking over the mafia fully from my father so I was making most of the decisions and taking charge, but he was still there if I ever needed anything.
I wasn't ashamed to admit I would need help from my father as I started shouldering the responsibility of the mafia. It was a lot of work and my father was the best Capo there ever has been. I was lucky to be able to call him my father and I definitely wasn't about to let the chance to learn all his wisdom and experience slip through my fingers because I was too arrogant. Of course I was arrogant, that was just my personality, but I would never show that to my parents. They raised me better than that and I also knew my father was the best role model I could ever have.
"Go to hell." I grabbed my suit jacket off the back of my chair while walking out my office with him following closely behind me.
"It's probably just some puttana who you hooked up with." His words seemed to make the whole situation funnier for him since he burst out laughing once again while my steps slowed. "Now you've got some crazy bitch after you." I felt him clap my shoulder while he carried on waking past me, struggling to get his laughter under control.
The last thing I would ever dream of is giving a one night stand my phone number, if I did that I'd be getting phone calls like this one all damn day. I haven't even hooked up with anyone recently.
I started walking again, my mind going over the last few puttane (whores) I've had in my bed over the last few weeks. None of them had the chance to find out my number, I definitely didn't tell them. It's not like any of them were that special, they were average at best. I've definitely had better before. My mind drifted back to one of the best nights I've had in a while when I suddenly stopped in my tracks, remembering the night I spent at her apartment a few months ago.
Damn.
"Alessio! Hurry up." I let out a sigh and took my phone out again, my thumb hovering over her number. I couldn't be sure that it was her number, I hadn't spoken to her for four months, there's no chance I'd be able to recognise her voice that easily.
But I'd remember her eyes anywhere. Her perfect brown eyes.
"For God's sake Alessio! We're late, hurry up!" I looked up at Tomasso who was glaring at me by the front door waiting next to my father. I shook my head and quickly put my phone in my pocket before catching up to them, attempting to block out all my thoughts about her for the moment.
"You're freaking lucky we own the damn jet Alessio." I glanced over at my father who was glaring at me in his seat across from me. "What's on your mind?"
"He's got a puttana chasing after him." Tomasso once again broke into a fit of laughter causing my father's lips to twitch upwards ever so slightly. He wasn't the sort of person to laugh, so that was a lot for him.
I didn't think it was that freaking funny but obviously to everyone else it is.
"They always want more." My father's words caused me to roll my eyes, a small smile tugging at my lips while I shook my head.
Before he met my mother my father was a lot worse than me. His reputation was notorious. He killed people for the fun of it, he was ruthless when it came to torturing people to get information, all he wanted was power. And he screwed around a lot.
But then he met my beautiful mother.
And he was still exactly the same.
It was only for a while until she finally managed to tame him before they got married.
"I think it was Luciana." As soon as I said her name, all the humour was wiped off both of their faces.
Good, it was starting to piss me off.
"Luciana Donato?" I nodded while looking away from my father's gaze, I didn't actually ever tell him that we slept together. He knew I took her as a date to the gala to see if anyone else would tell us what they knew after meeting Giuseppe's daughter, but he didn't know about what happened after.
"Don't tell me Alessio, sei andato a letto con lei, vero?" (You slept with her, didn't you?)
I nodded to confirm what he said and turned to my father expecting to see a glare followed by a rant but instead I saw a small proud smirk on his face. He nodded proudly and looked away from me leaving me stunned.
"Wow." Tomasso shook his head in disbelief after watching what just happened. "Your dad is the shit man."
