Roe vs. Wade
WARNING: Mentions of r*pe, abortion, g*ns, ab*se and discrimination.
I'm not completely up to date with this case, but found out about it a while ago, and found out today that it was overturned. For those who don't know, Roe vs. Wade protected the right for a woman to get an abortion. Now, the Supreme Court overturned the law, and although they have left it up to individual states to ban or legalise abortion, many states have already implemented trigger laws to ban it, which go into affect as soon as Roe vs. Wade is overturned.
Why is this bad?
Regardless of your stance on abortion, this takes away a women's right to her own body, and essentially treats them like property that those in power get to control. This will not stop abortion rates increasing. It will only make women turn to unsafe methods.
Another reason this is upsetting is because by banning abortion, they are affectively labelling those who do get it criminals. It's not like abortion is some fun activity that women enjoy. It's heartbreaking, as well as emotionally and physically draining.
Implications during pregnancy, financial struggles, being forced to stay with ab*sive partners—all very serious issues that those in power are either forgetting about or ignoring.
Yes, you should have the right to have a baby if you choose, but equally, you should respect someone else's right to their own choice. And, I don't know about you, but is it any wonder some women are reluctant to bring a baby into a world where the government don't care about them, healthcare prices are through the roof and anyone can pick up a g*n and sh**t them?
This has actually got my blood boiling, because no one is focusing on the kids that are actually born. The ones being ab*sed, the ones running away from home, the ones having to hide under their deceased classmate's body so they don't get shot at?
Those in power should be protecting a woman's right to choose what happens to her body.
You want to reduce the abortion rate, or manage population increase? Educate others on the use of contraception, properly deal with r*pists and stop discriminating against pregnant women at work.
I want to direct your attention to a video a watched a while ago. I think it highlights this issue well:
