Gone- Platonic Player and Veteran fic.

Word count: 769.

It ends so quickly, and so suddenly.

It was only Yesterday that Veteran hung out with Player, did stupid crap, and had fun.

But today, that all ended in just a quick moment.

It was stupid, and it was ridiculous.
The crewmembers, and especially Veteran were going through grief, but out of everyone, Veteran felt as though he was the one that should have died.

It was frightening how quickly Veteran could lose someone dear to him just like that.
It was as though life itself was bored, and killed someone for the amusement of it all.

Nothing was the same after that, Veteran feared it'd never be.

NASA covered healthcare to everyone that was involved in the incident, they even agreed to pay the costs to have all of them go through trauma therapy, and give them all paid leave for nearly up to a year.

NASA took full responsibility, even though they were at no fault.

No one could have stopped the accident, and no one could have prevented Player's death.

His sister, Jessica, was given the responsibility to Plan his funeral, and execute his will.
But because he was only 22, he had no will, and so the court ruled that all his belongings were given to the closest Family member- Which of course, was Dum, his sister.

Dum didn't want any of Player's things and gifted it all to Veteran.
She claimed it only made her sad when she saw all of Player's belongings.

As for Veteran, it was more of a way for him to get through grief.

Player didn't exactly have many things.
He left behind a few clothes, a teddy bear he had when he was a toddler, and a spare beanie.
All his devices were destroyed in the accident.

His apartment was rental, so he had no property in his name.
He had a dog, but he had given it away to his father the year before because of having no time to take care of it.

It wasn't much, but it made Veteran feel better about the fact Player is gone forever.

A month after his death, Jessica finally figured out how to plan a funeral, and texted everyone that knew Player, about when and where it will be held.

Veteran sat on his bed, back on earth, and inhis house.
It was 9 am, and the funeral would take place at 11 am.

Veteran couldn't sleep and hadn't slept in over 3 days. He felt awful, and he looked equally as bad.
His bed was placed in the middle of the room and in front of the window.
It was only a four-poster bed so there weren't many places to sit in the firstplace.
He sat down and stared out the window.

He had a television set up in his room.
veteran had left it on, and the distant music of a song registered in his mind.

'I'm gonna love you, I'm gonna love you. I'm gonna love you In hell.
You can change my will, and you can bury me alive, but I'll still love you, when we're both in hell'

He turned to the monitor, took the remote behind him, and turned it off.

The morning sun was peeking in from the right of the window, casting a beam of light into the left side of his room, lighting up his picture frames, and Intohis open closet, brightening up the suit he'd been planning to wear for Players funeral.

His phone buzzed, and so he took it out of his pocket and saw he received amessage from Captain.
The text read:

"I have a recent Picture of Player, his mother sent everyone a copy, but shedoesn't know your number and asked me to pass it on. She sent it to me initially, thinking I was his closest friend, but I'm not.
I'd guessed that you would have wanted this picture more than me.
-Hope you're doing okay, regards, Captain'

Veteran sighed deeply and opened up the app, and he saw on his phone-
Was a picture of Player posing making a peace sign, smiling into the camera ashe sat on his seat, on an airplane.
With the caption below reading: Can't wait to see you again.

He had visited his family, and sent them this picture as he was departing, and going back to his state.
Oblivious to the fact this was the last picture he'd ever take.

Veteran turned off his phone, wiped his eyes with his sleeve, got up and decided to get ready for the funeral.
