The ship stood still, it was ghostly silent with the occasional humm from the reactor echoing through the walls.

Moments like this only happened late into the night. Well saying night would make no sense, considering they were in space.
But to keep a sense of time they kept clocks set to a certain time zone back on earth. So more accurately, its quiet like this when everyone's asleep.

In his bedroom, Captain laid with his eyes shut.
Captain was slowly drifting to sleep when something caught his attention.
Outside the room a noise could be heard. It was muffled and very soft but Captain made out what it was.

'Step... step... step'

Footsteps

"Is someone walking outside?"

Captain sat up on his bed and looked towards the door, of course the door was closed and the lights were off but
There it was again, footsteps.

"Why would anyone be awake right now? Especially walking around?"

Captain didn't feel like dealing with this, but he wasn't called Captain for nothing.
Putting on his suit felt like too much effort, besides he wouldn't be out for too long.
He put on the nearest clothing he had, which happened to be just a pair of jeans and kits.

He walked over to his door in the dark and it automatically slid open and let the hallway light shine in.
He was blinded for a short period as his eyes adjusted to the sudden change of light.

Captain rubbed his eyes and peered left into the hallway and then to the right of the hallway.
He blinked a few times and saw a figure down the hall to the right. Still adjusting he couldn't exactly make out who he was seeing.

They had a green shirt and black trousers.

The person looked at Captain, turned the other way and continued walking

Captain called out hey but the person had turned the corner.

Should i follow them?
I really shouldn't
But im Captain, its apart of my job to investigate things like this.
I technically don't have to...

Captain turned to go back into his room but stopped mid act.
He looked to where the corridor turns and thought.

Fine.

He went right and followed the person, when he turned the corner the other guy had already made it to shields and turned left again.
Captain picked up speed and continued following them.

They crossed comms and into storage then to cafeteria.
Captain crossed storage and passed electrical in an attempt to meet them around Medbay.
He went up past security through top engine, when captain turned the corner though.
He crashed into something that wasn't usually there.
Into someone that usually isn't there.

Captain had been moving with momentum so when he lost the momentum by hitting into the guy, he lost his footing and fell.
His first reaction was to grab something to stop him from falling and evidently he grabbed on to the person he had just crashed into, dragging him down with Captain.

Captain fell and the other person on top of him.
Captain looked up, his vision now crystal clear, saw the face of Stoner.

Captain fell on his back and Stoner was on top of Captain, on his stomach.
Their faces were so close to eachother that Captain could basically breath the wift of weed coming from Stoners mouth.

Stoners chest was pressed up against Captains and he could feel Stoners worrying fast heartbeat.

Stoner stared for a split second before frantically getting off Captain.

"I- uhm i-i u-um -real sorr-y cap-t-tain"
Stoner said, stuttering for every word.

Why is he talking like that?

Captain, (taking note of Stoners stutter) Got off the ground and dusted his clothes.

"Ha, h-ha. Ill be- ooff n-now" Stoner said turning to leave.
Captain grabbed Stoners shoulder and stopped him.
"Hey stoner" Captain said.

Stoner turned around looking petrified.
Captain was about to speak when he fully saw Stoner.
Stoner looked off, like really wrong.

Something is wrong.

Bags under his eyes had deepened.
Stoner kept frantically blinking and wasn't taking normal breaths. His hair looking like a bomb blew up and most worryingly he was uncontrollably shaking.

"Stoner, what's wrong?" Captain asked.

Stoner, didn't speak. He looked terrified, anxious, fearful and generally horrible.
Take every negative feeling and put it into one man and you've got stoner.

Whats wrong with stoner?

"You look horrible, whats wrong, stoner?" Captain asked again.

Stoner did what looked like a shrug and looked at the floor.
Captain doubted the floor looked interesting at the moment.

"Im ffffine, im good dd- dude" Stoner said, his voice trembling.

I doubt that

"You're not 'Fine' You look sick, you shouldn't be standing at all." Captain said grabbing stoner by the arm.

God he's trembling so badly. He needs to sit.

"Stoner, here. Lets go to medbay."

Captain pulled Stoner forward. Stoner kept insisting he was fine, but didnt actually try to resist. Didn't seem like he had the strength to try.
Captain grew more and more worried for Stoner.
Stoners body quivered under Captains hand.
Somethings seriously wrong.

Even i can tell somethings wrong.

Captain entered medbay, stoner being dragged behind him.
Captain went to the nearest bed and forced Stoner to sit.

"Y-yoou dont have to c-capatin. Im f-f-fine"

"Stop saying that" Captain said a bit annoyed.

He's not fine...

Captain did the basic procedures when crewmate was ill.
He placed a hand on Stoners forehead to check his temperature.

Stoners burning up.

"Cap, im f-fine"

Captain next checked Stoners pulse, Captain couldnt get an estimate of how many beats per minute but he knew that it was high, much higher than normal.
"Is something wrong.?"
Captain asked.

Stoner looked at Captain and shook his head. straight forward answer hes given since they bumped into each other.

"Does anything hurt?"
Captain doesn't have a good sense of medical care, but he still wanted to ask.
He doesn't want Stoner to be in pain and not know it.

The only good things thats happened so far is that Stoners stopped shaking, now that hes sitting. Though his breathing is still an issue.

Stoner tried to take a deep breath but gave a staggered, painful cough.
Stoner pointed at his chest and said

"Lungs. Chest p-pain"

Ive got to do something, i need to get help.

"Stoner, stay here. Ill go get help."

Captain turned to go and get engineer.
As much of a show off he is.
Hes actually qualified to deal with these types of things.

But a hand grabbing Captains arm from behind stopped him.

"Dont. D-dont do that" Stoner said.

"I have to go get someone, i can't help you by myself"

"Medbay scan"

It was a good idea, but Captain didn't want Stoner to get up again.

"It'll be better if i go get help."

"No."

"No.? Why not?" He asked.

Captain considered leaving anyway, but leaving Stoner alone could cause more problems...

"Im, not that sick... I just h-have a weak system. Im also on something, its not that b-b bad" Stoner told Captain.

"What are you on?"

"Acid.
Im h-having a bad trip..."

That would explain the fear and paranoia...

"I-im pretty sure, i-i h-have s-some sort of polus bug. It'll pass."

"But even then we should get you medical attention."

"Med-bay, s-s-scan. Polus bug. Im f-f-fine d-dude"

Captain sighed and thought about it...
He could be okay.
But on the other hand, he could not.

He walked over to Stoner and sat next to him.
"You're sure you're fine? How do you know its a bug anyway?"

Stoner was slumped down so he sat upright and looked at Captain.

"Im gonna b-be h-honest with you, i-ive b-been sick ff-for l-like 2 days n-now, t-today is exceptionally worse..."

"And you're sure its a bug?"

"I ssscanned yesst-terday. Positive itss a p-polus bug"

"That doesn't make sense. You didn't bother to tell anyone?"

Stoner looked away and towards the ground again.

It didnt make sense. Why wouldn't he tell anyone he's sick?
A polus bug is not lethal but it isn't a illness to be taken lightly...
Captain was having a dilemma whether he should still go find someone.
He didn't want Stoner to think Captain wasn't listening to him.
But he isn't so sure Stoner would be fine...

Captain thought he would wait with Stoner. Too see if he was as fine as he says he is.

Gradually Stoners breathing softened, he stopped blinking like a maniac and he became more stable. It seems that the acid in Stoners system is finally decreasing.
Stoner kept looking up at Captain who stayed by his side, only to look away seconds later.

"You should get some sleep captain. Like i s-said. Im f-f-fine"

Stoner finally said breaking the silence.

"No chance stoner, im staying here"

Captain said, not a doubt in his tone.
He actually planned to stay and watch over stoner, Polus bug or not. Captain didnt feel comfortable leaving Stoner alone.

"Won't you get tired of me, or something?"

Dont ask questions like that

"And why would i be tired of you?"

"We're just gonna stay here in m-medb-bay?"

"Would you rather walk all the way back to your room?"

"Uhhh. No thank you"
Stoner quickly said.

Stoner seemed to realize that Captain really did plan to stay with him for a while.
Captain looked at Stoner for a bit and recalled what just happened.

"You really gave me a fright there" Captain softly said.

Upon hearing that, Stoner felt horrible. He hadn't meant to cause any trouble.
"Im sorry" Stoner said.

"Oh no, don't apologize Stoner."

"I caused so much trouble"

"If i hadn't decided to follow you, i doubt you could have made it back to your room."

"Why did you follow me?"

"I wondered why someone would be up and walking when everyone should be asleep."

"Oh..."

"Hey, why were you up? Especially when you were sick?"

Stoner paused. He looked as if trying to remember.

"I uhm- uhh. I think i thought my bed was trying to eat me alive..."

Captain snorted. Thats not something you hear alot.

"It was the acid!"

"Its still funny, Stoner"

Stoner couldn't help but smile too.
It felt as if Captains presence helped out with his health.
Stoner sat there next to Captain for a bit. Thinking about his next words very carefully.
Stoner felt like he should show his gratitude.

"You're great, you know that cap? For you know, helping me out. And all that"
Stoner said

Captain looked at Stoner, checking to make sure he wasn't joking.
When Captain established that stoner indeed wasn't kidding
That suddenly made Captain feel more important.

"You really think so? I often feel useless sometimes..."

"No, you're very great. Can't convince me otherwise"

"Well, i think you're quite great too Stoner."

Stoner smiled and Captain definitely didn't miss that one.

After a few seconds Captain felt Stoner lay his head on Captains shoulder.
He froze, and slightly turned to look at Stoner.
Stoners eyes were dropping and he looked about ready to fall asleep.
Captain felt comfortable so he slowly put his hand around stoner and rested against him too.
Stoner relaxed and also rapped one hand around Captain.

Stoners breathing had calmed down and he was breathing normally.
Captain could feel Stoners heartbeat and was relieved to find it slowed down.
Stoner fell asleep out of exhaustion and Captain decided to sleep too.
Captain felt like he could stay like that for a while.

Captains eyes slowly opened as he woke up. First thing he saw was Brown hair and a scent of weed.
During the time Captain  was asleep with Stoner. They had managed to lay down and they had cuddled.

Both his hands were wrapped around him.
Stoners head under Captains chin and one of Stoners hand around Captains waist.
It was peaceful.
It was nice.

The impact this is going to have on their friendship is going to be massive.
They might not be friends anymore, maybe something more than friends..

Something like The gentleman and Mr cheese.

Hopefully with less fighting though..
