Chapter 13: Maz
Han lead the way as the entered the Takodana town, with BB-8 following behind. Drapes and banners that were shades of pale red and faded blue hung everywhere. Smells of odd fruits and odd trinkets filled the air when walking by the stands near the Castles entrance. It was so colorful that it was hard to take in all the exciting colors and things you'd never seen before.
"Solo, where are we going?" Finn finally asked after staring at every banner for to long.
"Did you just call my uncle Solo?" Amilyn asked. Nobody called Han just Solo. That rolled off her tongue weird. It always felt right to call her uncle Han y his name Han.
"To get your droid on a clean ship." Han answered. A clean ship was that he meant not one that was used by thieves, criminals, and smugglers like Han and Chewie. One where people would actually get you to a place on time and no shortcuts.
"Clean?" Rey asked confused at his term of using the word.
"Do you think it was by luck me and Chewie found you? If we can find it on our scanners, then that means even the First Order can to. Want to get BB-8 to the resistance? Then Maz Kanata is your best choice." Han explained to them as the doors opened leading them into a cantina.
The cantina was noisy as music was played loudly by musicians not to far from the bar. Alien races and humans scheming, drinking until they got drunk probably, arguing, and negotiating. Like most smugglers and criminals do just to get by as people look for them. But in the back, a tiny four foot tall with oranges tinned skin, and huge googles women spotted them.
"HAN SOLO!" She yelled over the loud music. Finn and Rey looked at Han worriedly fearing the worst. The music stopped and everybody starred at where they were. BB-8 hid in fear as everybody's eyes were glued to where they were.
"Oh boy." Han muttered turning to the woman's area. "Hey Maz." The noise suddenly returned after he responded. Everybody went back to their regular conversations and drinks as the music blasted people's eardrums out. Rey and Finn looked at each other confused, but Amilyn smiled as she watched Maz make her way towards them.
"Where's my boyfriend?" Maz asked Han. Amilyn smiled remembering that's what she called Chewie.
"Chewie's working on the Falcon."
"I like that wookie." She turned to Amilyn. "Amy, my dear you've grown so much since I last saw you. Where's your boyfriend?" Maz meant Poe which made her roll her eyes.
"For the last time he's not my boyfriend. Poe and I are just friends." Amilyn told Maz.
"Dear, I've lived a thousand years. I know what young love looks like." Sure you do thought Amilyn. She had no time to love a man when a universe needed saving. Her and Poe would always be the best of friends.
"Han, these youngers look starved. Come on you need some food before you become walking skeletons." She said gesturing to them to follow her. They followed Maz to an empty table filled with fruits and breads.
Two men contact the resistance the droid had reached the destination. While a man contacted the First Order.
Finn and Rey couldn't hold back their hunger as they sat down in the booth. They garbbed at anything their hearts desire. Amilyn took her seat by Rey and grabbed a Jogan fruit. She hadn't had one of them in at least in 5 years.
The fruit was a light purple lavender with darkened purple at the bottom and white ridges going up on every side. She big into the fruit remembering the joy of tasting the fruit. It's sweetness with only a hint of tartness balancing out the sweetness. She didn't want to be rude so she ate slowly. Choking was the last thing on her mind, especially in front of Maz Kanata.
(Kylo Ren POV)
The dark room was a private place. There wasn't any audible warnings or protective devices in the room. It was quiet and darkness with strands of light that gave it a way to see through the dim light. The only light was red console buttons by doors, but that was the only thing that glowed in the darkness.
The room barely was furnished with any furniture. The only seating was a chair alone in the middle of the room. Otherwise the room was barely filled with furnished with anything. Any individual who claimed the chair would be faced in the dark, secluded room.
He was kneeling in the darkness in front of the lone chair. He was speaking.....speaking through the darkness that filled the isolated room. He spoke in a different tone, one that wasn't like how he spoke to his generals and other leaders. There was no orders or pathetic underlings to command now. Right now was a time to learn from the past and ask for how they did it.
There was no need for intimidation, or even fear to make people to feel uncomfortable around you. The object was a mask of old warrior who died 30 years after the Rebellion defeated the Empire. The warrior that struck fear in others, his powers were hard to defeat, but in the end Luke killed him as the legend goes.
He spoke to the object knowing it wouldn't talk back to him. "Forgive me. I feel it again. The pull of light. The Supreme leader sense it. Show me...show me the power of darkness, and I will let nothing stand in our way, especially Amilyn wouldn't stand a chance."
"Show me, Grandfather....and I will finish what you started." Kylo Ren spoke again trembling as he got. Only silence filled the room in its emptiness of darkness. It felt as if the ghostly appearance behind the deformed mask was in the room.
The misshaped and malformed was the mask of Darth Vader, Amilyn and Ben Solo's grandfather, was the warrior that struck fear into others eyes.
(Amilyn's POV)
"A MAP leading to the first Jedi temple?" Maz exclaimed as Han told her everything, "To Skywalker himself! I've never given hope for him in a long time." Amilyn had also given up hope in her father who seeme to think the world was fine and darkness would die away.
"That's good to hear I need to ask you favor." Han said to Maz.
"What's this favor? Do you need a loan or something to do with money? Oh did the client not like Rathtars?" Maz asked, "How's the food?"
"Amazing." Rey said as she bit into meriloon after biting into a fluffy, flatbread.
"I need you to get them to the Resistance." Han said to Maz.
"Me?!?" She asked Han archly.
"...... a loan sounds good to..." Han began to say.
"I see you're in trouble." Maz concluded, "I'll help you find a passage .....to avoid Snokes hunter squads.....but this journey is yours to take not mine." Amilyn agreed to Maz idea of her situation. If Han had helped them all the way not for nothing. He'd never leave anybody behind even if he wanted to.
"Leia doesn't want to see me." Han began, but Amilyn rolled her eyes because of the old couples fighting.
"Who can blame her?" Maz exclaimed, "But this fight is not about you and that woman, go home."
"What war?" Rey asked oblivious to what was going on in the Galaxy.
"The only fight: against the dark side of the force. The sith. The Empire. Now today, The First Order. We must face them even if we know we might not make it out alive." Maz told Rey.
"Well said Maz." Amilyn said biting into another Jogan Fruit. She always remembered Maz's stories of old wars, battles, and sith verse Jedi battles. The way she told them was magnificent by every detail and emotion that was felt through. The Clone Wars was the best because of Obi-wan and her grandfather, Ashoka Tano the legend, and the battles against the evil Count Dooku.
Finn snorted at what Maz had said making Amilyn raise her eyebrow in confusion and frustration at Finn. "That's crazy. Look around. There's no chance we haven't been recognized by anyone already, I bet the First order is on their way right now...." He stopped seeing as Maz adjust her googles and came closer to Finn to stare closely at Finn.
"What?" Finn asked indignantly to Han and Amilyn. Amilyn was even going to bother to tell him what was happening. Especially, since his lies seemed to get bigger and bigger every time Rey asked something to him as a friend. Maybe he was laughing at what Maz had said, but that's why you don't mess with the old woman. Maz sized her googled to make her eye seem huger as she went over to Finn.
"Solo? What's she doing?" He asked Han.
"I honestly don't know, but it ain't good." Han told Finn filled with honesty.
Maz finally spoke. "I've lived for over one thousand years, son. Long enough to see the same eyes in different people." She said adjusting the goggles again, "I'm looking into the eyes of a man who wants to run."
"You don't know a thing about me." Finn spoke frustrated through gritted teeth. "Where I'm from. What I've seen. You don't know the First Order like I do. They'll slaughter us all. And we need to run."
"You can ask for help from those men over there." Maz said pointing to men sitting a few feet away from them. "Big head, red shirt, shiny gun. Bright red helmet with ear flares. They're bound for the outer rim. Will trade transportation for work. Go. If running is all you can do."
Finn waited there considering the offer. A coward it would make him. He awkwardly arose from his seat. Everything has happening so fast...too fast...thought Amilyn. Finn tried to give Han back the gun he'd given him, but hand wouldn't take it. Finn was a coward, but he still seemed to care about them.
That's it. Amilyn stood up and Rey got up too. She realized Finn was a great guy and just needed some encouragement. One that wasn't from people who committed manslaughter.
