Chapter 12: whispering

(Rey's POV)

Rey was hurt and confused by the abruptness of Finn going to leave them. Did he not care? Did he not trust them anymore? They made a great team together, but his leaving would leave a scar on her. She walked with Amilyn to Finn who was talking to the alien crew.

"What are you doing?" Amilyn asked Finn through gritted teeth. Rey could tell she was furious at Finn. She had never trusted him, but this was the last straw of his actions that made her not trust him. Finn politely excused himself from the alien crew and followed them to a little corner where they could talk.

"So you're leaving?!? And I was beginning to TRUST YOU." Amilyn asked Finn angrily.

"You heard what Maz said we're in this fight together." Rey said to Finn very hurt by his decision.

"I'm not who you think I am. I'm not special. Not in anyway." Finn explained. Rey shook her head slowly as Amilyn stared at Finn with completely disgust of his actions.

"Finn, what are you talking about? I've watched you! I've seen you in action. I've..." Rey said not knowing what Finn had told BB-8 and Amilyn knew.

His voice tightened when he spoke the next words, "I'm not a hero. I'm not Resistance. I'm a stormtrooper." Rey was silenced by what Finn had said. He had lied...how long had he...was it this whole time......why did he keep it from them? It felt as if she was hit across the head with her own staff.

"Like all of them, I was taken from a family...that,,,that'll I never knew." He continued on, "I was raised to do one thing. Trained to do one thing. To ill the enemy which was anybody.....anybody who was a threat. But my first battle, I made a choice. I wasn't going to kill for them. So I ran. As it happens, right into you two. And when you asked if I was part of the resistance...you..you looked at me like no one ever had. So I lied to please you because you made me feel like I wasn't some weapon to be used. But, I'm done with The First Order. I'm never going back."

Rey felt as if she couldn't hold onto anything anymore. Tears. Tears from her past, it felt as if she knew that Finn had trouble telling her and Amilyn who stayed silent throughout his story and didn't ask if it was more lies. Because this was true...it was the truth it was in his eyes as he told them. Finn turned away from them, she grabbed his hand.

"Don't go." Rey pleaded. He meant a lot to her. He helped her escape Jakku, helped BB-8, and was there during times of danger. What would happen as he flew away? Would she finally break from losing the parents she never knew and losing Finn already?

"Take care of yourself," Finn begged Rey, "Please." He turned from them.

"You know." Amilyn finally spoke. "I started to trust you. I was starting to trust so many people again. I haven't done that since the temple burned down. I knew every student....we were all great friends...but the boy....he betrayed my trust. You felt trustworthy...now I don't know what to think."

He stood there for a while as the words hit him like he'd just been stabbed or hit again by Rey's staff. He followed the aliens out the doorway so he could runaway. Not just from the First Order, but from her. Her heart or at least what was left of it felt shattered yet again by people leaving her behind like she was nothing.

BB-8 had followed them and beeped a sad comment. "Yeah...Buddy....he did seem like he wouldn't, but he did anyway." Amilyn spoke to BB-8. Rey felt as if there was something calling to her or just whispering somewhere. But she starred down the stairwell as the voices grew louder.

The stairway though was dimly light, so what would anybody do in that room down there? But as the voices grew, Rey was more tempted to find what was going on. She walked down the stairs as BB-8 followed behind her making a clanking sound as he hit each step.

(Han's POV)

"Can you get the droid to Leia?" Han asked Maz yet again. He had barely noticed Rey or Amilyn had gotten up to talk to Finn. He still was seated at the table talking to Maz with a big cup of water as if didn't have enough of it. "I know how important it is to her."

Maz's response didn't help at all. "If it's so important to her, as I said before and take it to her yourself. Wether you believe that she wants to see you or not. Han, when you first came to me, your most important decision, involving your most meaningful binds, was yet to come." She spoke shaking her head, "I'm surprised, frankly. You were always so good looking ahead. I think it's your time to look back. At what...and who....you've left behind."

That last part made him realize that he had left behind something. He could've helped Amilyn the day after the temple instead of leaving saying goodbye out of nowhere like he had done. She was his niece. His friends daughter whom he had trained very well....and had taught her everything.....but his friend had left her for him and Leia to take care of. Why hadn't he realized this years ago?

The discussion and debate was making them both weary. Rey was a good kid........Rey might except his offer. Rey! Where was Rey and Amilyn? As if the thought had just crossed him Amilyn came to them both. "Have you seen Rey? She just ran off without me." Amilyn asked Han.

"I didn't see her Amy....."

"I know where she might be." Maz concluded. "Follow me Amy, dear."

(Rey's POV)

Rey entered the room to find only one door in front of them. The rest of the walls were tanned to a dusty sand colored. Stone arches and small alcoves around the door. Clank! BB-8 had reached the last step as he got it where Rey was stared at. As she walked to the door, it opened into a room filled with treasures.

It was still as dim-lit room. Shelves filled with crystals, ancient books, and crates endlessly piled on top of each other. It was so ancient that dust had started covering every inch of the room. There was a hand carved human bust in the back, but you could barley make it out by the lighting. But tarps and cloth mostly covered everything else.

Even though she was curious about everything, she still heard the whispering from deeper in the room. Ignoring everything, even BB-8's beeps of distress looking at everything. There was a small box where the voices seemed to be coming from. It wasn't latched or even locked, so she opened it to find an object very recognizable weapon. The hilt of a lightsaber.

She touched the lightsabers hilt without a second or inch of hesitation. As her fingertips touched the metal, everything went black for the lighting. She moved her hand away terrified of what was happening. But something behind her seemed to breathe down her back, mechanical breathing that came from behind her.

She whipped her head behind her to see nothing there. She turned back around standing up to see a long hallway with low illuminated doors. Voices began calling her again, but she ran. She was running as the walls turned down towards her. She tumbled to the ground as the walks turned to burning rubble.

She looked up quickly to see an Astromech droid watching the fire burn everything. This was the temple. This is were everything started in the first place. She saw a mechanical hand put on the droids head, but the figure wore cape the made it hard to make out who it was. Was it Luke...Amikyn's father?

She heard a scream of agony came from behind her as a man was stabbed by a red blade. She turned to see Kylo Ren. He was draped in a black, but he whipped up his head towards her. Revealing a mask that probably hiding the monster underneath it. He lunged towards her, Rey winced back only to see a little girl screaming.

"COME BACK!" The little girl repeated screaming. Rey realized it was a younger version of her and she was being taken away by Unkar Plutt. She turned to see the shuttle leave with her possibly parents as the younger Rey screamed and fought off Unkar's grip around her arm.

All the sudden cold snow hit her face. Or at least she thought it was snow....after so much desert it could've been easily rain. Kylo Ren's blade crashed down in front of her. She held back her screams as he swung wildly at her. She falls to the floor to find Maz and Amilyn looking  at her,

She was back at Maz's cantina and fortress. Where had she been the last minutes....possibly even seconds? She must know what was going. No more lies.

"What was that? I'm sorry I shouldn't have come in here..."

"That was my fathers lightsaber." Amilyn stated amazed like she was right about something. Amilyn was always finding right and wrong before the others,

"It was his and his fathers before him. Now it call to you." Maz said picking up the lightsaber hilt from the little box. Rey looked at the women recollecting of what had just happened to her. She stood up fast.

"I have to get back to Jakku." She stated clearly as Amilyn walked up to Maz.

"Dear child, I see your eyes." Maz began. "You already know the truth. Whomever you're waiting for on Jakku. They're never coming back. The lightsaber is calling to you. It's your destiny. The saber will guide you. Take it."

"I'm not touching that thing again." Rey said as tears formed in her eyes knowing the truth was inevitable now. She ran up the stairs.

"Rey!" Amilyn called after her. No. Not even she was going to stop her from leaving and somehow finding these parents who left her years ago. But they weren't there......
