Recollection

The light blinded Sarah as she walked out from the dark tunnel that connected the colony to the outside world. It was a beautiful day, almost clear sky, the warm breeze blowing across her face. She walked for a little while until she came up to the giant silo that was used by farmer before the apocalypse. Sarah then climbed up the silo until she was at the top, and able to see everything around her. She planned out the safest route to avoid the zombies on the way to the next colony. Once she was satisfied with her route, she took one last breath of fresh air at that height, then began to climb down. She walked along a stream, thinking.

This time she saw a different man. She ran her fingers down his chest as they laid against each other. She doesn't know what's worse, that she always felt fear back then, or that she feels nothing now. The man grinned and touched her, she let him. "Ready for round two?" He said through his ugly, crooked teeth. Words came out of her mouth that had no meaning to her "of course baby, I love you".

Sarah broke away from the stream and started walking Northwest towards an abandoned town. It was time to clear her head, after all she doesn't get this chance often.

Before the apocalypse Sarah was just a high school girl. She studied, not partied. She spent her time reading books and hanging out with her close friends. Her boyfriend Eric was captain of the football team. She thought she had everything. Nominated for prom queen, valedictorian, she thought her life could not get better. Then reality hit her. In an instant everyone she knew was dead and she was fleeing the town she had lived in her whole life with strangers with guns.

Sarah knew they hadn't brought her with them out of kindness, she wasn't stupid. She was so afraid to die and afraid to be left behind that she began hitting on the men and playing with their emotions to keep them interested in her. However the flirting could only last so long, eventually the men wanted more. They would protect her and in turn, she let them do whatever they wanted to her. It was what she had to do to survive.

A chill ran down Sarah's spine as she walked down the familiar roads. The paint in the houses were peeling and the walls were falling apart. Most of the windows were broken, though few were kept intact. Some parts of the fences had be knocked over and cars littered the streets in a reckless fashion. She walked right up to and intersection and stopped to look at the two story house she grew up in. She slowly stepped towards the building, working her way to the front door.

Sarah survived by letting countless men have their ways with her body. At first she felt like she was in control, but over time she began to realize the truth. She had no control. The men stashed Sarah away, they only entered her little cell for two reasons, to quench her thirst, or to quench their's. It wasn't until they brought another girl I'm and threw her in the cell they made next to Sarah's that she realized what was really happening.

The door creaked open as she stepped inside, glass littered the floor and the smell of rotting wood filled the air. Sarah walked over the the living room to look at the pictures of her family she had long since left behind. Emotions Welles up inside her as her fingers brushed across the faces of her parents and little brother. Flashes of their faces as they were trapped and burned in their car filled her mind. She began crying and fell to the floor. Once she had gained her composer again she whipped her eyes and stood up. She set the picture back on the shelf where she had found it, not daring to look at it again for fear that the memories might return. She walked around and took in the rotting building, remembering how beautiful it used to be.

The leader of the group had fallen in love with Sarah, and began to hog her to himself. So he got another girl for the men to have. However Sarah was not going to let that girl go through the same torture she had gone through. That night, when Sarah was escorted out of her cell to see the leader, she slipped a knife from a guard. She then hide the knife in her underwear and acted like she was in love with the leader. He slowly unzipped her dress, revealing and open wound she had sustained a few days prior. As he ran his fingers across the wound, Sarah had pulled the knife out and drove the knife into his stomach. Making him clench his fingers into her wound. Sarah screamed out in pain, but the leader was unable to make a sound, since she had driven the knife upwards puncturing his lungs. He collapsed to the ground, dead. It was the first person she had ever killed. She stood above him, looking at her work as if in a trance. She quickly snapped out of it and grabbed his cloak and hat.

It was night time so it was hard to see her face under the clothing. She grabbed his pistol and stepped out of the tent. One of the guards turned to address her, but before he could say anything she stuck him in the eye with her knife. She then turned to shoot the other guard in the head at almost point blank range. The men were running fm around confused after that, wondering where the shot came from. They would run up to Sarah thinking she was their leader, she would always stab the first person and shoot whoever saw. After all the bodies had dropped and all the men were dead Sarah headed for the cell were she had been kept.

The lock clicked and the door swung open, all Sarah could say to the girl always "let's get the fuck out of here". She wished she had asked the girl her name, but in the heat of the moment, she just ran into the woods and killed everything in her way that moved. The girl had trouble keeping up with Sarah and began to fall behind. Sarah didn't stop though, she just kept killing and running. She didn't know where she was going, she just needed to get away from that horrible place. It wasn't until Sarah heard the girl scream that she turned and ran back after her. But by the time she got there it was too late, the zombies had already begun to rip her lifeless carcass open.

Sarah ran for what seemed like an eternity. She had run out of bullets and had resorted to solely knifing. Then she saw it, a giant wall. She didn't know what was on the other side, but she had to know. The sun was beginning to rise as she ran along the entire border of the wall, looking for a way in. When she came across the two giant iron doors, she fell to the ground, crying with joy.

Sarah was awoken the next morning when the doors began to make noise and open. A beautifully dressed African woman walked out with two armed men standing at her side. She spoke "What's your name child?"

"Sarah" barely slipped out of her lips. The woman could see the suffering in her eyes and stepped forward, putting Sarah's arm over her shoulder to support her.

"Come my child, you are safe now"

Sarah was washed and fed as she told her whole story to the woman without so much as asking her name. Once Sarah was nursed back to health she finally asked the woman, who she owed her life to. She replied "Baroness Rachel, and you my child, are Sarah, my knew huntress".

Since then Sarah had been a hunter and had worked for Rachel without a sliver of disloyalty. She felt like Rachel was the only Baron she could trust since she no longer trusted men. If a man so much as touches her she will kill him.

Sarah slowly faded back into the present as she stood, staring at the street from one of the broken windows. She had cleared her head and was ready to get going again. Suddenly there was a loud noise. Two cars came racing up the road on both ends, dragging their own horde of zombies not to far behind them. They ran up to the intersection and revved their engines for a moment, then shot some cars, setting off their alarms and drove away down another road of the intersection. Sarah knew that it was a trap, it was not the first she had been caught in one. She ran up the stairs and climbed into the attic. She heard the zombie busting in and flooding the building as she stood by the opening to the roof, quietly waiting to see if they would come into the attic. The zombies began beating at the attic door and Sarah headed onto the roof, staying low so that the outside zombies wouldn't see her and all flock to her. It was futile, the zombies came through the roof door after her. She stood up and started hacking at the zombies with her machete as they were climbing through so that they didn't get the chance to get on the roof. She pulled out her silenced pistol and began shooting the zombies that were climbing up the sides. She tried to think of a plan as she slowly lost control of the situation and ran out of ammunition. She attempted to make a quick sprint to jump off the back part of the roof into the next backyard to find a way to get away long enough to hide and wait it out. However before she could get far enough to jump a zombie grabbed her leg, and in an instant all the other zombies lunged on top of her and began tearing at her clothes and armor. The zombies piled over her and she began to feel their fingers start to scratch at her skin. The sun was blocked out by the zombies bodies and her world went black. She took a deep breath as she gave up, and allowed the zombies to kill her, accepting her fate.
