|TWENTY FOUR| Deeds

Dove's POV

Twilight called me yesterday to see if I had arrived home safely or not. I was expecting it; he was uncertain about me going home with a suspicious-looking man—I don't blame him for worrying; I didn't exactly explain who the man was. But then again, if I had explained, he wouldn't have let me go, knowing the man was none other than Lucifer himself. Either way, it's a good thing he called me after Haze left, or else she would have pestered me to let her talk to Twilight.

I received a call from an unknown number, knowing it would be the woman who is Lucifer's acquaintance and works at my father's office. I picked up the call.

"Hello," I said.

"Miss Stanley?" I heard a mature woman's voice.

"Yes?" I asked.

"I am Everly Abbey," she introduced herself.

"Miss Abbey, I believe Lucifer told you about what you have to do," I said.

"Yes, my boss told me about it," she replied. Of course, the boss's intel is oddly loyal to him, as if he helped them through their hardship. I wonder if he did so... Lucifer's working style is similar to that of a leader who believes in gaining his teammates' trust first.

"I will share some images with you," she said. "It's your father's mistakes."

"I appreciate you taking risks and doing this hard work," I replied. "May I know what you are gaining from this?"

"My revenge," she replied. Now, this just got interesting. A sly smile spread across my lips.

"Revenge?" I asked.

"Eva Parker." "Have you heard of Eva Parker?" She asked.

"Yes, I have."

A year ago, Eva Parker was gang-raped and killed by a bunch of her university boys. Poor girl. It was truly unfortunate since her case was handed over to my father. Instead of defending and providing justice to the victim, my father helped those rapists and made sure they were proven innocent.

"She was my best friend," Everly said with disdain, most likely towards my father.

"I am so sorry about what happened to your best friend, Miss Abbey," I said.

"There's no need to apologize, Miss Stanley," she said, making me raise my eyebrows. "Now, Eva will only get justice because of you, because the documents I'm about to share with you prove that those guys were my best friend's rapists and murderers. Additionally, it will also prove your father's crime."

"I still apologize on my old man's behalf." "Even though a mere apology won't bring back your best friend," I said. Lucifer is truly a master at planning everything.

"I appreciate your kind deeds, Miss Stanley," Everly said. Kind deeds—these are just deeds, and honestly, I have my own selfish motives in doing this. I am just saving my family—I sure hate my old man, but I cannot let him get killed by the sins.

"Okay, then," I said. "I'll be waiting for the documents."

She stated that she will share those documents as soon as we hang up the phone. Before I shared these documents with the media, I got to confront my old man first. He should know that his daughter is going to be the reason for his ruined reputation. A cynical grin appeared on my face as I skipped towards my father's study.

I entered the room, and I couldn't find my old man anywhere. So just like that, I explored the room since it was my first time entering it. Growing up neither I nor Rylee was allowed inside this room.

I opened some drawers, and in one of them I found a pistol.

"Why does this man have a pistol with him?" I asked. Of course, he doesn't have a license to carry this weapon.

While I was busy playing with the pistol, a message popped up on my mobile. I opened it and found attached documents in the message that could prove that my father is corrupt and a criminal. I smirked as I forwarded the documents to a journalist friend of mine. I previously had a talk with him about this and how I want him to spread it like wildfire in the media.

I sat behind my father's desk on his revolving chair as I revolved around like a kid with a pistol in my hand. I heard the door of the room click open as I stopped revolving. I glanced at my father, who was looking at me in surprise. I chuckled and pointed the gun towards him with my forefinger on the trigger.

"What the hell?" My father shouted in anger. I chuckled as I tilted my head.

"Should I or should I not pull this trigger?" I asked as I walked closer to my father. He stepped back at first but stopped and glared at me.

"Oh, you're trying to be dominant?" I laughed. "It won't work, father."

I pressed the mouth of the gun to the side of his forehead. A drop of sweat rolled down his forehead, which gives me enough proof that he's scared.

A chuckle left my lips, and soon my chuckles turned into boisterous laughter.

"You're going down, old man," I sobbed. "You are so going down."

I pulled the pistol back and put it on the back of my jeans.

"What?"

"You just got sold out by an enemy you accidentally gave shelter to," I replied.

"What are you saying, brat?" He snarled.

"Are you an idiot or what?" I asked in amusement.

"Everly Abbey sold out your information to me about Eva Parker's murder case," I said with a smirk. His eyes widened in horror.

"Yo-you... did not..."

"You are my dear daughter, right?" "You won't give that information out to anyone, right?" My father said as he rubbed his hands, and a nervous smile appeared on his face. "I helped you out of that hell." "You won't sell out your father like that, right?"

I pretended to think for a moment. But I grinned later, as I blinked at him and placed my hand on his shoulder.

"Oops!" I reacted. "I might have accidentally forwarded those files to a journalist."

I smiled deviously while I wiped away my fake tears.

"You little vixen!" My father snarled as he was about to hit me, but I moved to the side and placed my foot, making him stumble and fall. His head hits the table, and he passes out almost immediately.

"Oh my! I'm so sorry, "Dad," I said as I knelt beside him. I checked his head; it was bleeding a bit, but nothing seemed too serious.

"He'll be out for a while, at least till the cops get here," I mumbled to myself. I got up and went to the living room. Turning on the TV, I put on the news channel to see if the news had already spread or not.

Luckily, the news about my father was everywhere. Even scrolling through social media, he was everywhere. My father did have a reputation—a good reputation that is certainly going down the drain.

I heard the siren of the cops' car. I smirked as my plan finally reached its final stage. I heard the doorbell as I went to open the door. My mother and sister both came just in time as I opened the door. Here begins my perfect act.

"What brings you here, officer?" I gasped.

"Miss Stanley, we are here for your father," the officer said. I gasped again.

"What—what happened?" My mother asked. I wanted to scream in her face to stop acting like she doesn't know what her husband has done wrong.

"Please call for Theodore Stanley right now," the officer demanded. I stepped aside from the door, letting the cops in.

"He's in his study," I said. My father must be conscious by now. The cops proceeded to search for my father as my mother went behind them, trying and arguing to stop them.

After a few minutes, my mother came to me in haste.

"Dove! Sweetie!" "Why don't you tell these officers how kind your father is?" My mother said

"Sorry mom, but lying to the cops is a crime," I said in a monotone. I felt no remorse for what I did.

"You! Be a good daughter for once, Dove! That's your father!" My mother yelled at me as she shook me, tears staining her cheeks and ruining her mascara.

"Want to know a secret, mom?" I asked as I leaned in and whispered in her ears. "I am the reason your husband will be sent to prison."

I chuckled.

"But you should be rejoicing about it; I saved his life after all," I said.

"Wh-what?"

"Yes, woman! Your husband would have been dead if I had planned all this!"

She went completely silent, trying to process what I was saying. In the meantime, the cops came back with my father, and his hands were cuffed. I pulled a worried face again.

"Don't worry, dad! I'll get you out of that place!" I said. My father glared at me, but just in time, I stepped beside him. I pulled the gun from behind me and placed it in my father's back pocket. I pretended to take the gun out. I gasped.

"Dad?! "What is this?!" I exclaimed, holding a gun. "You carry a gun?"

"Miss Stanley, please hand over the weapon," one of the officers said.

"Of course," I said. I handed the pistol over to the officer. "I don't think it's a licensed weapon."

I pulled an innocent face. I made sure I looked worried and scared.

"You vixen!" "You planned all this, didn't you?" My father yelled at me as he was going to hit me, but the cops restrained him.

"No one planned anything." "We got an anonymous email about all the crimes you committed, Theodore Stanley." "You will be punished accordingly," the officer said.

The cops took my father, and my mother followed behind, saying she'd be hiring the best lawyer for her husband. I couldn't care less. My father's getting out of the prison was not going to happen at all.

"Hey Rylee!" I called my sister.

"Yeah?"

"Listen to me carefully, okay, sweetheart," I said. "I am sending you and mom to Aunt Georgina. I don't care how you do it, but convince Mom to go to Australia for the time being." "You know how many enemies Dad has, right?"

My sister nodded.

"So I want you two to be safe, and that is why you two will have to leave," I explained.

"But, what about you, Dove?" She asked. I patted her head.

"Don't worry, darling, I will be fine," I said. "I have some friends who will not let anything happen to me." "But you two, I'm most worried about your safety. So please convince mom, okay?"

"Yes, I'll do it," Rylee replied.

With my mom and sister gone, I won't have to worry about anyone harming my family. Moreover, with my mom gone, no one will try to get my dad out of prison.

Now only one thing is left to do. Break the soulmate bond with Vinter and free myself from this curse permanently. I wonder when I will be able to meet Bethany. Lucifer is late in finishing this job. Now, this is new.

Speaking of the devil, I received a message from Lucifer.

"I heard your father got arrested," he texted. Of course, he heard it. I'm pretty sure he knew about it before my father even got arrested. He has many insiders in the police department, especially in the crime branch. He is aware of every move made by the cops.

"All thanks to your help," I replied.

"None. " "I helped with nothing, just pulled a few strings," he texted back. Those few strings were what helped me the most.

"When will I be able to meet Bethany?" I texted.

"You will be hearing from one of the sins very soon," he replied.

"Okay. "Thank you once again," I texted. I didn't receive any further texts from Lucifer.

This man knows everything, and he still keeps everyone in the dark. He lets people misunderstand his motives; he does not give out the entire truth. He never lies, but he never gives a satisfactory answer. And the more I get to know him, the more mysterious he becomes.

Lucifer is like a maze—the more you try to solve it and find an exit, the more you will get lost in it.
