|THIRTY TWO| Leave?
Twilight's POV
Does it hurt when the person you love and trust so much lies to you?
Yes, it hurts and it hurts like hell.
When I asked Vinter what is going on with our father, he told me not to get involved. If it's so dangerous then why is he involved in it?
There is something really big these people are hiding from me and I am going to find the roots of it.
It's been a few hours since the party ended. I couldn't find Vinter or Dove. I tried calling them but their mobile phones are not reachable. I wonder if they are together? I'm not doubting Dove, I mean Vinter is her soulmate and all but I don't know something just does not feel right about their disappearance.
But while I was on search of them. I saw my father leaving, so I followed him instead. Now here he is waiting for someone. This is the back area of my home and it has been quite long since he has been waiting. Whoever he was waiting for is super late, or either my father is super early.
I heard a car approaching. I was hiding in a place where I can hear them and see them clearly, but they won't be able to see me. I saw the door of the car opening and what I saw next left me baffled.
My eyes widened in surprise when I saw the person who got out of the car. It was none other than Nina Robbins, my brother's ex-girlfriend.
"It's good to finally see you again, Nina," my father said.
"Likewise, Mr Harris," Nina spoke. "I don't see Vinter anywhere?"
She searched for my brother. So Vinter is involved in all of this, isn't he? But what exactly is this all about?
"He disappeared in the middle of the party, but let us both continue what we were supposed to discuss, shall we?" My father asked.
"Yes sure," Nina said. She pulled out some papers and gave them to my father to read.
"They agreed to your offer, Mr Harris. But you will have to give your word and sign these documents. If you get caught while doing this business, you will have to keep your partnership with the Yakuza confidential," Nina spoke. I gasped and stumbled back which made some shuffling sound. My eyes widened as Nina's eyes wandered towards my direction, I quickly hid and covered my mouth.
"Nina? You good?" My father asked. Good thing he hasn't noticed my presence yet.
"Oh! Yeah... yeah..." Nina replied. "Let's continue."
"What if even after giving you my words, I still end up telling the government everything if I get caught?" My father asked.
"Well, you have two sons, Mr Harris. A wife and a mistress. Also, a reputation to keep," Nina answered. "Even if you are safe in police custody, do you think your family will be safe?"
"Your words and these documents that you will be signing are not for the proof for the Yakuza organization, but take it as insurance for your family- or rather I would say a warning."
"You break the promise- go back on your words and your family suffers," Nina chuckled.
My father stared at her for a minute and started to laugh.
"You are good, Nina. I give you that. Was this the reason why you dated my idiot son? To get this deal to me?" He asked.
"I had many reasons to date your son, but yeah this was one of them," she spoke.
"Shall we discuss the business then?" Nina asked.
"Before we get into it, can I ask you something?" My father asked. Nina nodded.
"You are so young, how did you get yourself involved with Yakuza?"
"Well, I am not allowed to discuss that with anyone. You see just like how you are bounded by this contract, I am too with a similar contract," she said. My father nodded as he began to discuss the deal later on.
I barely understood anything they were saying, but what I do know now is this is Treason against our country and I will not let my father do a horrendous crime. I have to stop him and this Nina. Dove was right about her, Nina is a terrible person and she just got worse over the years.
"Now let me warn you, Mr Harris. Yakuza are not the only threat. You know about the sins, right?" Nina asked.
Who doesn't know about the sins, they are seven murderers or vigilantes like what the public calls them. Doing the job of God, but with the disguise of the Devil.
"Yes, I am aware of them," my father replied.
"If they anyhow find out about this, you will be in grave danger."
"Don't worry about it, dear. They will never find out about any of this business. It will be highly confidential," my father reassured her.
Confidential? Confidential my foot! I will notify the police about this right away. I don't care what happens to my father, I cannot let him become a criminal like this.
I silently went inside and searched for a place where no one can find me inside the house. I got my mobile and called the cops. It was ringing and after 2 rings someone picked up the call.
"Hello! I have a complaint to register," I said. My hands were shaking and I could feel my forehead beaded with sweat.
"What's your emergency, sir?" It was a female cop on the other side.
"Yeah, my father-"
My mobile phone got snatched from my hand as I looked at the person who took it from me.
"Nina?"
"I knew I heard something back there, who would have thought it would be the youngest Harris," she turned off my phone and tossed it away.
"Snitching on your father to the cops?" Nina asked as she laughed. "Bad Twilight, bad Twilight~"
"What is wrong with you?" I asked in disgust. "What do you get in betraying your own country?"
"Pleasure?" She spoke in an unsure tone. "Money!"
She grinned.
"Did your girlfriend egg you up to do this?" She asked.
"What?"
"Did Dove Stanley made you do all this?" She asked again. What is her problem? She is always dragging Dove in everything.
"No!"
"Then how did you get to know about all this?" She asked. "I know himbos like you are not smart enough to do something like this."
"Are you dumb? I overheard your conversations. Even now and even the other day when my father was talking to you on the call," I said. "For someone who wants to keep things confidential, you guys suck at your job."
"You are even more annoying than your girlfriend, you know that?"
"Well, I'm taking that as a compliment."
"That mouth of yours is not speaking your words, they are Dove's words. God! This woman is like a virus, she fucking infects everyone!" Nina retorted. I glared at her.
"You and my father will go down, Nina. And that is how I will take revenge for Dove as well. She deserves to see you fall after you ruined her life."
"You will do no such thing, Twilight."
"Now who told you that?" I asked.
"I will give you a piece of information. Your dear brother Vinter is not entirely a part of this and he doesn't know the entire thing. So if you take any careless decision, he will go down along with me and your father," she said. "And of course, Dove too will face the consequences, 'cause I can always tell some of my men to take care of her. You know what I mean, right?"
"Men? What men?" I asked.
"You thought I would not have the security of my own, being in a partnership with the Japanese mafia?" She asked. "Oh, Twilight! You are so naive!"
"Your poor poor girlfriend will suffer for no reason again. Just like how she did back then."
"You know what?" She asked as she gave an evil grin. Her grey eyes were devoid of any humane emotions. "I should just end her sufferings permanently."
I looked at her and she nodded.
"Yes, Twilight. How about I just kill her?"
"N-no you won't!" I stuttered as I could feel tears blurring my vision.
"You know I can, you know I will."
"No! Please! No! I don't want her to suffer more than she already has!"
"Then why don't you do, as I will tell you to do?" She asked. I wiped my tears and nodded.
"Tell me! Tell me what should I do?" I asked. She walked closer to me and looked into my eyes. She held my face and whispered.
"I just realized, you look more handsome than your brother."
"But as much as this face tempts me, I still am in love with your brother- so why don't you leave this place?" She said.
"What?"
"I said, leave this place. Leave Vinter's life," she spoke.
"No! Why?" I asked.
"Because when you will leave Vinter. He'll be all alone. With no soulmate, no brother. Two people he loved the most leaving him, it'll give him no choice but to come back to me."
"No! I will not leave Vinter! And I definitely don't want Vinter to date you again."
"You will have to! I'm leaving you no choice, dear. Unless you want Dove and Vinter to suffer the consequences!" She grinned.
"Think about it, Twilight~"
She walked away saying that to me as the clicking of her heels echoed in the room. I was left behind with the chaos in my mind. Hurricane of thoughts.
What should I do? Should I leave? But I don't want to!
But also if I don't leave then there are chances she'll mess up Dove and Vinter's life. Dove has been through so much in her life, I cannot see her in any more pain. I know it will break her completely. I know it will.
I sat down on the ground, paralyzed with my thoughts of the worse. All the doors and windows to new hope are closing. Is there no escape from this?
♤♤♤
I am starting to like Nina's character more. I wasn't actually planning to make her so complex, but idk it just happened... I'm so unpredictable 🥴
