|THIRTY THREE| Manipulation

Dove's POV

*Gasp*

I opened my eyes as soon as my dream turned into complete darkness. Adjusting my vision according to the lighting in the room, I looked around and found myself in unfamiliar surroundings.

"You woke up sooner than I thought," I heard a deep familiar voice knowing who it was my eyes darted towards him.

"Hi, brat," I mumbled as I got up. He immediately got beside me.

"You should complete your sleep," Mammon spoke as he pushed me to lie down again.

"I already did. How long was I knocked out?" I asked.

"Four hours."

"That's plenty of sleep," he stepped back as I got up again. Wobbling obviously, I tried to maintain my balance.

"Is this your new hideout?" I asked.

"No... it's Levy's home," he spoke. Leviathan's place huh?

I inspected the room better and saw a few photos of a girl— with a young Leviathan. This must be his sister, they look alike.

"Why are we here?" I asked. Mammon shrugged.

"You should ask your husband or Leviathan about it."

"My hus— who?" I asked.

"Vinter Harris."

Vinter is here? What on Earth is going on? I need answers.

"Thanks for taking care of me again, Mammon," I spoke as I rushed out of the room before he can stop me.

I searched the entire house but couldn't find anyone— except when I saw outside a glass door, I could see Vinter's tall figure standing near the balustrade watching the beautiful view.

I opened the glass door and walked up to him. I stood beside him and looked at him.

"Hi, Harris," I greeted. He jumped back in surprise as he pulled his unlit cigarette out of his lips and hid it.

"I-i wasn't smoking! I swear! I just kept it in between my lips unlit!" He reasoned fear was visible on his face. I chuckled.

"I know... I saw. You don't have to justify," I replied with a smile.

"You followed Leviathan here, didn't you?" I stared at him, observing his features. His hair was disheveled but he still looked good, and his eyes were not the same anymore... past few days' events changed Vinter in a way I didn't want him to be. Every action I took so far was in a hope that these two men won't get involved in my fucked up business— I am tainted and I didn't want to infect them, but my fate used all my actions against me.

"I couldn't leave you alone, I trust Leviathan but I just couldn't-"

My body moved on its own, I didn't realize that I was hugging him. His body stiffened at first, but I didn't let go... more like I couldn't let go.

"Thank you," I sighed. He relaxed and hugged me back.

"For what?" He asked.

"For staying..." I mumbled. This is wrong on so many levels. But it is also true that the physical comfort I get from Vinter is incomparable. Having Vinter around feels like a part of me that was missing— the void just got filled in.

"I will always stay by your side. I will be the one who'll catch you when you fall. This will be something, not even my brother can do— because no matter how much you will deny it, Dove Stanley... we will always be soulmates."

His words hit... it makes me feel terrible knowing I just saw him from afar when his life tormented him— I could have done so many things to save him, but I didn't. I couldn't see anything past my pain. And now here this man is, being there for me even if his life is leading a worse path than my own.

I let out a small tch as I pushed him away. He frowned a bit but didn't say anything. He sighed.

"Did I overstep my boundaries again?" He asked. I looked up meeting his amethyst eyes. I don't like the dullness of his eyes, especially knowing that I'm the cause of it. I looked away. All those years ago I could have approached him, should have been with him. But I was not there, even after knowing that he is my soulmate, I was not there.

"No... it's just... I am dating your brother, I shouldn't have hugged you like that," I mumbled. "I don't intend to give you any false hopes. I want to be with your brother— if possible, then forever."

He chuckled.

"I know that, Dove. I know I am not the main character in your life..." he spoke. "... but I can always be the supporting character right?"

"Why? I treat you like-"

"I don't care how you treat me."

"You are such a pain in my ass," I groaned. I don't like feeling guilty at all. I hate feeling emotional pain.

"You got this done from Twilight's studio?" Vinter asked as he traced my bunny tattoo. His touch gave me goosebumps and I shivered. I didn't realize it, but my dress was so that my tattoo was perfectly visible.

"Yeah."

"What's it mean?" He asked.

"Twilight."

'Oh' was the only word that left his mouth. I know he's jealous, and I don't blame him.

"Won't your family be worried that you disappeared so suddenly from the party?" I asked.

"I am an adult. Perfectly capable of taking care of myself," he spoke. I snorted.

"Right."

"What? You don't believe me?" He asked.

"You were about to die the other day cause of suffocation, Vinter. Sure you are perfectly capable of taking care of yourself," I gave a sarcastic remark.

He hummed with a smile but didn't say anything.

"Here," he spoke as he removed his blazer and placed it on my shoulder.

"It's not even cold. Why would you give me this?" I asked. He shrugged.

"I know how you dress up. This dress isn't actually to your liking, so I figured you would be uncomfortable in it," he said. I smiled and wore the blazer properly.

"Quite an observer you are," I commented.

There was a comfortable silence between us. Neither of us spoke anything. That was until someone opened the glass door, and I turned around to look at Leviathan who was holding a phone.

"We have a problem," he said. I raised my eyebrows at him.

"What is it?"

"Twilight found out about Oliver Harris' works, and..." he paused.

"What is it, Levy?"

"Nina Robbins is the mediator between the Yakuza and Oliver."

Vinter gasped but I on the other hand was not surprised. Nina's dirty plays, if she can frame me for attempted murder during her teenage, then I figured as an adult she would have only grown to be darker.

"Levy, call Belphegor for me," I said.

Leviathan dialed Belphegor's number and handed me the mobile phone.

"Levy, Lucifer just called me I'll talk-"

"It's me, Bel," I said.

"Chaos?" He asked.

"Listen to me carefully. Deactivate the transmitter present in Twilight's body," I said.

"Why?" He asked.

"Because I don't trust Lucifer with Twilight anymore. Now explain to me what exactly happened between Twilight, Nina, and Oliver," I said.

He explained to me what exactly happened. I know for a fact that Lucifer was aware of half of it. There is no way he wasn't aware of this. Was it all a hoax when he said he won't involve the Harris brothers in this? It has to be a hoax after all Harris' brothers will play as good bait for him to catch not only Oliver Harris but also Nina.

This is not done! After what information Snow White gave me, I cannot trust Lucifer with Twilight or Vinter's life. They are too innocent for all this.

"Bel, have you informed Lucifer about all this?" I asked.

"Not yet," he said.

"Good! Don't inform him about this. Keep Twilight's involvement lowkey and between the four of us; you, me, Leviathan, and Mammon."

"What are you saying?" He asked.

"Just trust me, Bel. Leviathan will explain to you everything later, for now just deactivate the transmitter and let me handle the situation. You trust me right, Bel?" I asked, I wasn't planning to use emotional manipulation but this is the only way.

"Of course, I trust you, Chaos. You are my best friend," I smiled at his reply.

"You trust me more than you trust Lucifer, right?" I asked.

"Yes, way more than that. I trust you way more than I trust Lucifer," he spoke.

"So follow my lead, Belphegor."

"Okay. I will deactivate the transmitter and Twilight is at his tattoo studio right about now. I guess since Nina left him with no choice, he had to leave the house to stay away from Vinter," he said. Nina played so well this time, cornering the weakest. It has always been like this, but unlike last time I will make sure she does not succeed. I will take down both Lucifer and Nina.

"Thank you for informing me about this, Bel. I hope you'll do as I told you to do."

"I will do it. But just to let you know, Lucifer will eventually find out about this, I am not the only one who informs him things, and if I don't inform him anything. He will suspect," Belphegor spoke.

"Then tell him about Nina being a mediator," I grinned. I will use Lucifer to make Nina pay for what she did, back then and now.

"Okay. I will keep Twilight out of the picture as much as possible," Belphegor reassured me.

I hung up the call later and sighed. This is all too complicated, and it will only get more complex in the future.

"What happened? Twilight is okay right?" A worried Vinter approached me. I smiled.

"He's fine."

"You are lying, Leviathan said he found out the truth that means-"

"Stay away from Twilight for some time Vinter. Till I solve this mess, stay away from Twilight. You will do that for me right?" I asked as I placed my hands on his shoulder, staring into his eyes with hope and faith.

"You promise to keep him safe?" He asked.

"I promise. I will do everything to protect him," I answered.

"Now can you do something for me?" I asked as I caressed his shoulders.

"Anything... whatever you want me to do," he spoke.

"Nina is bad news, so stay away from her as much as possible. She will eventually try to use you against me, again. We don't want that to happen right? You know what happened last time, right?" I asked and he nodded.

"I want you to not get involved in this more, so avoid everyone involved in it the sins, Twilight, Nina, and your father," I said. He was unsure about answering, I could see it in his eyes. But he gave me a small nod.

"You?" He asked. I chuckled.

"I am saving you, dummy. You don't have to avoid me," I said.

"I will do as you told me to do, Dove."

"Now go on home," I said. He nodded.

"We'll meet tomorrow right?" He asked.

"Yes, at Hope records," I replied.

He waved at me before looking at Leviathan.

"Thank you for trusting me and bringing me here. Also thank you for taking care of Dove," Vinter spoke.

"You are a good guy, Vinter. Hope you will be okay through this tough time," Leviathan said. Vinter nodded.

"Let me drop you back to your place," Leviathan said.

"No! I'll manage on my own," Vinter spoke.

"I insist. It's pretty late I don't think you'll get any ride from this area."

"Okay well."

Both he and Leviathan were about to leave when Mammon walked in. He glared at Vinter making my soulmate chuckle nervously.

"It was nice meeting you, Mr. Mammon," Vinter said.

"Don't come back here ever again," was all Mammon said as he approached me. The two men left and Mammon glared at me.

"You hate Vinter?" I asked. He scoffed.

"I don't hate that flower boy, but I don't like him either," he replied with a frown. His expressions just made me chuckle.

"Flower boy?" I asked.

"Yeah, he looks like one."

"I overheard your conversations, brat," Mammon said. "And I am not liking the way you are involving yourself in all this mess."

"I was the reason behind this mess."

"Yes, you were. So now let the adults fix it," Mammon replied.

"Adults? I'm 23 years old, Mammon. And don't act mighty just because you are a year older than me."

"Because of you two lives are at stake-"

"What is happening with Vinter isn't even my fault. He accidentally got involved in it."

"I told you the other day, Dove. You should have told Vinter and Twilight about their father's possible death and their father's reality. If they would have known about it already, they won't have tried to get themselves involved in it," Mammon said.

"I did what I thought was right and even if I would have told them, there was no guarantee that they wouldn't have gotten involved."

"Yeah keep making yourself feel better by saying that, Stanley. In reality, you are just a coward and curious about knowing the different outcomes. Even now you just manipulated your best friend and your soulmate. There is no difference between you and Lucifer," I glared at him. If looks could kill, Mammon would have been dead long back.

"Oh yeah! Do you know what Lucifer is exactly like? He is a murderer... you think I'm a murderer too, don't you?" I asked. "Out of all the sins, I knew you never believed me when I said that I didn't try to kill Nina."

"Don't use your emotional blackmailing on me, Dove," Mammon sighed.

"Emotional blackmailing? If I question you then it's emotional blackmailing, but if you question everything I do and never trust me then that is right, isn't it? I asked. "You and Belphegor knew about Leviathan's past, didn't you?"

"Yeah we did but-"

"See you don't even trust me enough to tell me about your real identities. I know, I am twisted— I know why Belphegor named me 'Chaos'— I know that I am like Lucifer, and that is why you guys— you, Leviathan, and Belphegor will never truly trust me..." I fought back my tears.

"I am fine with it. Because I trust you enough to let you know everything about my life. It gives me a bit of relief that I am not entirely like Lucifer, because I didn't keep you in darkness about my past."

"Dove... baby..." Mammon placed his hands on my cheeks. Tears rolled down his eyes. This is the first time he has called me 'baby'.

"I trust you. We trust you. We just don't want to risk your life," Mammon said. "My past is not something that you should get involved with— it's not like Leviathan's, it's very different... dangerous-"

"I don't want to know. I'm leaving," I pushed Mammon's hands away.

"Let me drop you at your place."

"No! I want to be left alone right now. I'll go on my own," I said. He sighed as he wiped his tears. It's very rare to see Mammon cry. I have only seen him cry once. Apart from anger, Mammon is not very expressive.

He didn't stop me from leaving, and I left not waiting for Leviathan. I walked out of the house. I don't know what this area is, but I started walking anyway, towards the North.

After a while of walking, and giving the situation a thought. I dialed a number. It was a call to the devil, but it was necessary to make this call.

"Didn't expect that you would call this soon, Dove Stanley," the speaker said.

"I have a deal to make with you. Are you up for it?" I asked. He chuckled.

"Whatever you want, miss Stanley. After all, I'm at your service," he said.

"I'm sending you my location, pick me up."

I hung up the call not waiting for his reply. I didn't have to, he was in no position to reject anything I would say. He is my puppet for the time being.
