|THIRTY SIX| Consequences
Dove's POV
As soon as the interview ended. I took a half day off and went straight to where the meeting with Bethany was fixed. I didn't particularly inform anyone where I was going since that would be dangerous.
I took a cab to reach halfway since the destination was quite far for me to walk all the way there. When I finally reached the place I realized I'd never been to this part of the city. It was entirely new for me, where do these men even find such hidden places from?
There was an abandoned building, half constructed. I saw a man wearing a mask standing outside the building, his tall and broad posture is telling me that's Asmodeus, so with a grin I approached him.
"Deus!" I greeted. I could see him smile underneath his mask. He opened his arms, and I hugged him.
"Been a while, Chaos."
"Yeah... it's been a while."
"I will have to check you, I'm sorry. Lucifer made sure to tell me that I will have to treat you like the rest of our clients," he said. I nodded and smiled.
"I don't mind, Deus. I know your work ethic," I raised my arms. "Go on."
He nodded as he pulled out a device from his pocket, and it scanned my body from head to toe. He asked me to turn around and I did as I was told. The device seems some sort of new technology, maybe it's one of Belphegor's inventions.
"Done," he said.
"Alright."
"You know the rules, right? Or do you want me to tell you about it?" He asked. We entered the building and he removed his mask. Asmodeus just like I said last time, he's handsome as hell. If he ever leaves this organization, he should do modeling.
"I know the rules, Deus. Don't worry about it."
We reached a room, the door was closed. It was a giant metallic door. Even though the building was not completely constructed, this room was well constructed.
"Go on inside. The person is waiting for you," Asmodeus gestured for me to get inside the room. I raised my eyebrows at him.
"Aren't you going in with me?" I asked. He shook his head.
"I'm afraid, I'm not allowed. The person is tied up pretty well, so she won't be able to attack you," he said. I nodded as I opened the door, and stepped inside the room. I know Lucifer values time so I will have to make it quick.
I saw Bethany sitting on a chair, tied up in front of a table.
"Just like I promised, I helped you out of the prison," I spoke.
"This is still no less than a prison. I didn't know you worked for the legendary deadly sins," Bethany said.
"I said I would help you out of the prison. I never said the other place won't be a prison. Though I believe that you will have your freedom for real after you share the crucial information which I want," I spoke. "Who told you that I work for the sins, though?"
"Just took a guess, since they helped a prisoner like me escape-"
"I issued a contract with them. I don't work with them or anything, keep your assumptions to yourself. Stop with these nonsense talks and tell me what I want to know," I slammed my hands on the table. She flinched but smirked later.
"I have a bad memory, what was your question again, sweetie?"
If Asmodeus wasn't outside, I would have used force to get this woman talking, but looks like I'll have to play along with her little games.
"How do I break my soulmate bond?" I asked. She chuckled but didn't reply, she just stared at me without uttering a single word. My patience was running low.
"You know Bethany, I have many ways to get you talking. You don't want me to opt for such torturous ways, right?" I threatened her.
"In an hour I can make your life worse hell than what you have lived in the prison. I'm an ex-juvenile offender and trust me young criminals are way more twisted than you old criminals. Want me to use one of the methods on you that people did on me back then?" I asked with a sadistic smile. I could see her confidence cracking a bit. One more hit and she'll start talking.
"All it will need is a blade, and your arms, your stomach, your back, and your thighs. I will carve all sorts of things on it- nasty things that will leave you in terror for the rest of your life. You will get nightmares about it, you will wake up in the middle of the night-"
"Stop! Stop!" I saw her shivering. I smirked, who said spoken words don't have any power?
"I will talk! I will tell you all about how to break a soulmate bond. Just stop talking about such torture ways," she spoke. Sweat was dripping down her forehead. I smirked.
"Talk," I leaned forward so I can hear her well.
"If you keep going towards West. By the end of the city, you will come across an infinity-shaped lake. There is no name for it so you won't be able to locate it through GPS. So, you will have to stick to the West, and you will be able to find it. In the middle of that lake, there is a small land area where there is a huge tree. That tree is considered to be sacred and has multiple roots. Every branch of the root is connected to each soulmate bond present on this planet..." she paused.
"There is more to it, so continue talking, woman," I gestured for her to speak more. I need the entire truth so I don't make any mistakes while breaking the bond.
"An old woman guards that tree. She's senile, and she doesn't let anyone touch that tree. If you ask her to help you break your soulmate bond, she will most likely curse you."
"Curse?" I chuckled. "I don't believe in such petty things. I have suffered the worst, what worse could happen than this."
"We think life can't get any more painful, but it does. The more we grow, the more we have to bear with the pain. If she curses you, then your life will get more painful than it already is."
"Why should I believe your words?" I asked. She shrugged.
"Don't believe me. You can see it for yourself in the future then," she spoke.
"Is there any way that the old woman won't curse me, and will also help me break the bond?" I asked.
"There is no such way, but you can try to persuade her with your words. Bribing her is not an option either."
"Does she have a family?" I asked.
"She might. She used to live in the village near the lake. There is only one village in that area, if you can find her family there, and win them over, there might be a good chance that the old lady might help you," Bethany said.
"I see. Well thanks for the information," I got up from my seat.
"You still shouldn't break your soulmate bond, Dove Stanley."
"Why not?" I asked.
"Because this bond is a gift from mother nature, tampering with it will always come at a price."
I chuckled.
"I'm ready to pay any price for it then."
"My friend outside will escort you to your 'freedom', hope we never meet again Bethany," saying that I left the room.
I saw Asmodeus waiting outside, as I approached him. I saw him smile at me.
"You got the information that you needed?" He asked.
"Apparently. It wasn't satisfactory but well works for me. I can find my way out of this on my own now," I replied.
"Can we talk for a minute?" He asked. I nodded.
"Go on, I'm always here to listen to you, Deus."
"Don't break this soulmate bond, Chaos."
"Why is everyone asking me to do this? Why is everyone against me for breaking this soulmate bond?" I asked.
"I'm asking you not to do it because I know the pain of losing soulmate. I don't want you to suffer the same fate, Dove."
"This is different than what happened with you, Asmodeus."
"Have you ever thought about the consequences you might face?"
"I have not, but I know it won't be anything I won't be able to handle," I said. "I'm leaving if you are done talking."
He sighed.
"I'm not supporting you in this, Chaos," he said.
"Fine by me. I don't need your support, Asmodeus."
I stepped away from him.
"Having any sort of bond with Vinter is too painful, and since you are aware I'm a coward, I am not capable of dealing with this pain."
"Good day, Deus," I waved at him. He shook his head but waved back anyway.
Nothing can stop me from breaking this bond. I won't stop even if God himself tries to stop me.
I walked out of the building, busy having multiple mental battles. That was when I received a call from Twilight.
I smiled and picked up the call.
"Hi~ bunny. Looks like you had a busy day," I spoke.
"Yeah, there were many customers today. What do you want to eat for dinner?" He asked.
"You~" I sang. He chuckled.
"I mean the actual dinner, kitten," he said. I snorted.
"Anything you'll cook, I'll happily eat it."
"Well okay then. I'll cook something that goes well with both of our tastes. When are you going to come back?" He asked.
"In an hour," I replied. He hummed in response. We bid each other goodbyes and hung up the call.
Why would I want to stick around having this soulmate bond when there exists a man I love, even if that man is not my soulmate? It does not matter to me. I wish to spend the rest of my life with Twilight.
