|THIRTY ONE| Flower Boy
Vinter's POV
"Dove?!" I got no response from her as I patted her cheeks. She has completely blacked out, so I rushed towards the door and opened it so I can bring her to hospital or something.
But I saw a surprised Leviathan standing there, which surprised me even more. What is he doing here?
"Shit!" He cursed as soon as his eyes landed on Dove and rushed up to her.
"Not this again! Chaos? Baby? Wake up!" He patted her cheeks but again no response.
"What happened to her? Sh-she was just alright a few minutes ago and suddenly she fainted-"
"Lack of sleep often leads her to go unconscious. Even though it rarely happens, whenever it does we don't know when she'll wake up," Leviathan spoke as he carried her in his arms. What is that supposed to mean?
"Where are you taking her?" I asked as I followed him outside the room.
"To my place."
"I'm going with you," I demanded.
"No."
"She is my guest. This is my house. She is my responsibility right now," I said. In reality, I just want to be there with her as much as possible. Especially now that Twilight is not around, I can stay with her a little longer.
I might look like I am becoming greedy. But every single day my yearning to be with her grows more and more. I am giving into my greedy desires now. I don't want to stay away from her.
"She is not your responsibility, Vinter Harris. She has always been my responsibility and will always be," even though Leviathan's voice was very low, there was a hint of anger in it. Like the voice was warning me not to push his buttons much. But Dove is my soulmate, there's no way I am going to leave her alone with a man who is a criminal. Even if it's the man she looks up to.
"She's my soulmate," I said. I kept following him. Instead of taking the front exit, Leviathan took the back door. There was a black car there which I am assuming is his.
After a long pause Leviathan sighed.
"You better not tell a single soul where we are going or else I will have you killed," Leviathan spoke. I nodded as I helped him put Dove's unconscious body in the back seat carefully.
"My mouth is sealed," I said as we both sat inside the car as well. He turned on the engine and we drove off.
"Why are we taking her to your place though? I could have called for a doctor instead."
"Dove suffers from night terrors— I don't think your doctor would know how to take care of her, because only Mammon knows how to calm her down," Leviathan spoke. "Last time she passed out like this, she went out of control and only Mammon was able to handle her."
I could feel myself getting envious of Mammon. I am her soulmate, and I still know nothing about her as these seven men do. It feels like even after being such a close part of her, I still feel like a stranger.
"Why Mammon?" I asked. Leviathan chuckled.
"You should ask Dove about that," he said.
"Last time I tried talking about you two, she flipped me on the ground like I'm a sack of grains."
Leviathan laughed as he shook his head.
"Too much alike, aren't they?" He asked. "Dove and Mammon?"
"Yes... I am almost jealous of their relationship," I frowned.
"Don't be," Leviathan smiled as he looked at passed-out Dove through the back view mirror. "Mammon and Dove are almost the same age, and that's why they act alike. They have sibling-like bonds, they are most comfortable around each other cause of their age. Unlike us oldies."
"I can see why Dove sees you as a father figure," I said. When he said they have a sibling-like relationship, that made me feel at ease.
"If you don't mind me asking this, how old are you?" I asked.
"Same age as you, Vinter."
"That old huh..." I said and he nodded.
"What were you doing at the event?" I asked.
"Take a guess," he spoke.
"Keeping an eye on my father?" I asked.
"Yes."
That made me wonder where Twilight went in anger. I hope he is not planning to get more deeply into his father's business cause if he does. We are doomed, all of my and Dove's hard work to protect him would go in vain.
Twilight Harris, please don't do something that you will regret for the rest of your life.
As we reached our destination, I was the first one to get out and carry Dove out of the car. Leviathan's house looked pretty big for one person to live in. Could this be his family house or something?
Leviathan opened the door of the house, which I am assuming is his and we entered from the front door.
"If you'll go upstairs, you'll see a room near the staircase. You can let Dove sleep in there," Leviathan said. I nodded and carried Dove to that room.
When I opened the door and entered the room. I could see a very feminine-styled room. Like it was specially designed for a girl. I placed Dove on the single bed which was present in the room. I left a few pecks on Dove's forehead cause I know if she would have been conscious, she won't have even probably let me touch her.
She looked so peaceful sleeping like that. I traced her facial features with my forefinger as I smiled. She has doe like big eyes and a cute face. I keep forgetting she is five years younger than me.
"Don't you look more beautiful when you don't have the devilish look on your face," I know she puts that facade so people won't do again what they did to her back then? But I hope Dove finds her solace soon, so she can grow as a normal person.
"I love you so much, Dove Stanley," I smiled as I caressed her cheeks one last time and stepped back.
I took my time to explore the room and saw pictures hanging on the wall. There was a guy in it who seems around eighteen years old, whom I recognize as Leviathan because the boy has similar eyes as Leviathan and there was this girl; probably fifteen hugging Leviathan.
Who could it be? His sister?
The door of the room slammed open as I saw Mammon wearing his usual eyepatch walked in. He took his time to glare at me. There was a scowl on his face, but that doesn't surprise me. Mammon seems like someone who probably doesn't like it when some outsiders try to get close to his close ones.
I flashed him a smile and I was about to say 'hi' before I got interrupted by Dove's whimpers. Both mine and Mammon's eyes shifted to her as I saw tears rolling down her still-closed eyes.
Her whimpers turned into screams which scared me as I jolted back in surprise.
"No! I didn't! Don't do it!" She screamed as she turned and twisted on her bed. "It fucking hurts!"
Before I could react, Mammon had already rushed towards her and sat beside her on the bed gently stroking her head.
"Hey! Dove! It's okay! I am here! They are not real! They won't hurt you ever again!" Mammon spoke softly.
"Ma-mammon?" She whispered as she snuggled closer to him and he pulled her closer to him. She was still asleep but somehow she knew Mammon was there.
"I'm here, Dove. I'm here," Mammon comforted her.
I could feel my chest tightening and tears threatening to fall at the sight so I left the room. I am not used to getting jealous. This feeling is too new for me. On top of that to see my lover suffering like that. It's too much to handle.
I jogged down and searched for the kitchen cause for some reason I was very thirsty. So when I found the kitchen, I filled the glass with water and chugged it down hastily.
"Calm down," I heard Leviathan's calm voice. I turned to look at him.
"What does she dream of?" I asked.
"Her hell like days in the juvenile center," Leviathan told. I gasped.
"It must be so terrible. I can't even imagine what she went through," I said. "Will you tell me why only Mammon can calm her down?"
Leviathan sighed as he smiled and nodded.
"One day Belphegor locked Mammon and Chaos in a room cause that idiot thought they were soulmates. They weren't that close at the time. They were not close at all..." Leviathan paused and smiled. "...they were like enemies back then. But that night Chaos had one of these attacks of hers and Mammon was the first and only person who was able to calm her down. Ever since then they grew closer. As I said, you don't have to worry about Mammon. I know he has no romantic feelings for your soulmate, they are like siblings."
Even though Leviathan's words were very comforting. But I already have Twilight as a rival. My jealousy is caused by my insecurities, I know how I don't deserve Dove at all, and yet the thought of her being with another man pisses me off.
"I understand," I faked a smile. Hopefully Leviathan won't see through it.
"In that room, there was a picture of you and a girl... she's your-"
"My late sister," Leviathan spoke before I could finish my sentence. "She is my late sister, Jade. She died in an... accident a few years ago."
He spoke in a manner that he is still confused about her death. But I also didn't want to push such a sensitive topic much, so I kept quiet.
"I'm sorry for your loss," I said. Leviathan gave me a genuine smile.
"Thank you, Vinter."
I heard footsteps approaching so we both looked in the direction of it and we saw Mammon standing in front of us.
"I have given her some sedatives. She'll be out for a while, but she'll be okay now," Mammon said as he sat on the couch.
"Thank you, Mr Mammon," I thanked him.
"The fuck you are thanking me for, flower boy?" Mammon spoke in a monotone. Flower boy? Was that supposed to be an insult or a nickname?
"Language!" Leviathan scolded.
"Well tell this flower boy to know his place. She belongs to me first, the hell he's thanking me for?" Mammon scoffed.
"She belongs to me!" I firmly stated. Mammon glared at me.
"Stop it! Both of you!" Leviathan spoke in a calm voice which held a lot of authority. Mammon zipped his mouth and so did I, immediately.
"Dove belongs to no one, okay?" Leviathan said. Well he is right technically, she is her own person.
"And you!" He pointed at Mammon. "How many times have I told you to control your possessive attitude when it comes to me or Dove or Bel? And what about respecting our guests?!"
Mammon had his eyes down as he listened to Leviathan's scolding without arguing.
"Sorry, Levy," he apologized. "I won't do it again."
"I'll leave," Mammon said and he went upstairs right after he apologized to Leviathan again. Probably to check up on Dove or maybe to keep away from me.
"He doesn't like me," I nervously chuckled.
"I won't lie to you, Vinter. He honestly doesn't like anyone except me, Dove and Belphegor," Leviathan said as he rubbed his face. "He was around fifteen when I first met him. He has been exposed to this crime world at a such young age. He only considers us 3 his family."
"He thinks you will take Dove away from him, forever."
"But I am not even dating her," I said.
"I know and he knows that too. But you are her soulmate. You share the strongest bond in this world with Dove and Mammon is just jealous that he'll be replaced by you," Leviathan said. "Don't take it the wrong way, Vinter. Mammon just hasn't grown up mentally yet. Somewhere deep down he's still that fifteen years old boy."
"Well, I know you guys know Dove the most. But as much as I know Dove. She values relationships way too much. I can guarantee you that she will not even dream of replacing any of you guys. Especially with me," I said. "I am just her soulmate, you are her family. I can never take your guys' place in her heart."
"I know," Leviathan smiled. "You know Vinter. You are more important than you think— Especially to her."
"What makes you say that?" I asked. He shook his head with a smile.
"It would be better if she tells you that herself."
More important than I think? Is that even possible? I just have one bond with her, which she is so adamant about breaking. How am I more important to her?
No, I am not going to get my hopes up thinking I would ever be important to her.
♤♤♤
Let me make it clear again! There is no romantic feelings between Mammon and Dove. He just loves her like a brother, even though he will never admit it. But just like how Leviathan said, they share siblings bond.
