Vinter's POV
I rang the doorbell of Nina's apartment. I heard the footsteps approaching, and soon enough, Nina in her bathrobe opened the door.
"Hi, Vin!" "You won't believe this, but I was expecting you!" She gushed as she gave me a peck on the lips before I could react. With a surprised expression, I touched my lips.
"I... Nina, we need to talk," I said calmly.
"Of course! We do!" "I know you are here to invite me to the event your family is hosting in two weeks, right?" As she drew me inside, she said, "I got a call from your mother; she said I must go to the event as your date."
Event? What event? I don't know about any events.
"That's not why I'm here," I said, ignoring her prior statement. She looked at me with a worried expression.
"Baby... is everything okay?" She asked.
"Nina, it's time we break up," I stated. She laughed.
"Yeah, Vinter Harris, nice joke," she said, still chuckling.
"Do I look like I'm joking?" I asked. She looked at me as her sterling grey eyes widened in shock.
"Vi-in... you can't be serious!" She exclaimed, her eyes welling up with tears.
"I'm dead serious, Nina Robbins." "This is what you get for lying about everything," I said in a monotone. I was beyond disappointed. primarily within myself.
"Lying?" "I didn't lie to you about anything!" She exclaimed.
"You falsely accused my soulmate back then, and now you've lied about that to me, Nina! Everything you said about Dove was a blunt lie! You bullied her; you ruined her life!" "You think I will ever forgive you for this all?" I confronted her.
"I... I... Vinter!" "Listen to me! She was trying to steal my lover! She was trying to steal Jace, and now she's trying to steal you." "I... I can't... "I can't let it happen. No," she mumbled as she drew her hair back. This woman is insane; she is not Nina, as she presented herself to me and the people around her. She's an insecure woman whose insecurities have gotten into her head.
"No, she didn't—she didn't try to steal your ex-boyfriend, and she isn't trying to steal me." "Because, in case you are forgetting this, I'm her soulmate, so I do belong to her," I said. I turned around and proceeded to leave.
She pulled my shirt from behind.
"N-no Vinter! Please! Please don't leave me! I love you!" "I love you so fucking much!" She begged as she cried. I turned around to see that she was a crying mess. The beauty of the modelling industry was looking like shit, but she deserves it. After what Dove went through because of her, this is not even half the punishment she is getting. I gave her a cold look.
"Love? No, Nina, you never loved me." "You just saw me as Jace's replacement and a stepping stone to get revenge on Dove," I said. "Stay away from me and Dove."
"No! I won't! I will ruin Dove's life! I swear!" She yelled angrily. Her face was red with anger, and her brunette locks were completely disheveled. This is the true face of Nina Robbins. I pulled out my mobile and clicked a picture of her.
"What—what did you do?" She asked.
"Me? Oh! " "I'm just doing what my soulmate would have done—I'm playing dirty," I replied with a smirk.
"Do anything to Dove again, and your true face will be revealed in the media." "Not only that, but I have proof that you bullied Dove and falsely accused her of your attempted murder," I threatened. "So, fuck off from our lives while I'm being nice."
Saying that I turned and left the scene without looking back. I could hear frustrated screams coming from her apartment, but I couldn't care less.
When I stepped out of the building, I received a call from an unknown number. I picked up the call.
"Hello?" I asked.
"Mr. Harris?" The caller asked
"Yes, who am I speaking to?" I asked. The voice of the caller seems oddly familiar.
"Leviathan," the caller said. The name was enough to tell me who it was.
"The...sins?" I still asked.
"Yes, I was told to inform you that today there will be a meeting and your requirement is there." "I believe you want to talk about a certain contract." "I'll text you the address of where the meeting will be held," he said.
"Okay," I said, not pleading any further. He hung up the call, and I tried to check the caller ID, but the number disappeared from my call log.
"They are so precise about everything," I mumbled. Soon enough, I received a text from an untraceable number.
After reading the text, I realized I'd have to leave right away because the drive is to the city's outskirts, which is quite far from where I am, and the meeting is in two hours. So I got in my car and took off to where the meeting was.
When I reached the destination, I realized it was an abandoned building. It was risky to go in; I don't even know what these people are like. But I will have to take the risk for the sake of my family. Everything will be ruined if I do not accept these people's assistance.
So I entered the building, and I came face to face with a masked man. My hands were sweaty because of the nervousness; it was scary to meet people from a criminal organization.
"Mr. Harris, follow me," the man said in his deep voice. He was wearing a mask and an eyepatch, so it was hard to figure out what exactly he looked like. I followed the man, and after some time of walking, we entered a room. It seemed like the room was specifically arranged for meetings like this.
There was another man inside the room; his back was facing me. But from the style of his hair, he looked very familiar.
"If I'm not wrong, it's Levy, right?" I asked. The man swiveled in his chair and faced me. That's Levy.
"I'm glad you remember me, Vinter," Levy said. "I am Leviathan."
"But you are an employee at my father's company," I said. He chuckled. The other man from before walked up to Leviathan as he removed his mask. He still had his eyepatch, but he's a fairly handsome man, I'll give him that.
"Employee? " "I'm not an employee at your father's company; I was just there to keep an eye on your father," Leviathan explained.
"So you are already aware of the situation?" I asked.
"Of course we are." "We have known about the situation since your father contacted the Yakuza," Leviathan explained.
"Mr. Harris, now we are quite surprised that you tried contacting us since you are Oliver Harris' son." "Our leader Lucifer seemed fascinated by you," the other man explained.
"The thing is, Mr...."
"Mammon."
"Well, Mr. Mammon, the thing is, what my father is doing is wrong and treason." "Because of his greed and pride, I cannot let him ruin my family." "My younger brother had a hard time growing up; I don't want him to suffer more," I explained.
"Such a righteous man." "You are just like her," Leviathan commented. Like who?
"Um, like, who?" I asked. Mammon nudged Leviathan before he could speak any further.
"So you want to protect your family," Mammon said.
"Now I will be honest with you, Mr. Harris." "I am assigned to assassinate your father," Mammon said. My eyes widened, I felt dizzy, and my senses went numb.
"As-assassinate?" I whispered. They are going to kill my father? I mean, it was one of the possibilities I thought of, but I didn't know they would select this option.
"Summing up all the crimes your father committed, this seems to be the only option for us," Mammon said. How does this man speak about killing someone with no remorse or regret? Is Dove really affiliated with these people?
What am I supposed to do now? If I go against these people, it won't work, and I might put everyone's life in danger. I cannot seek help from the police department because the sins have contacts everywhere. My father is a traitor, but I don't want to see him die either. And if he is killed by the sins, his entire reputation, as well as our business, will go down.
I have to decide which side I am on as soon as I can. For the sake of my remaining family and for the sake of Twilight.
"Can I make a request?" I stuttered.
"Yes," Leviathan said.
"My father's death... can you make it look like an accident?" I asked. "My younger brother is an illegitimate child, and he is already suffering because of that tag." "Now I don't want him to suffer with the tag of the son of a traitor." "Please, I beg you."
"We cannot-"
"Okay, we agree to it," Leviathan said, cutting Mammon off.
"But Levy, we cannot take decisions without asking Lucifer!" Mammon stated.
"I'll deal with it myself," Leviathan said. As much as I hate to admit this, Leviathan seems like a sensible man. Mammon sighed, but he didn't argue any further.
"Vinter, I promise you no one will know anything about your father's wrongdoings, not even your family." "So don't be concerned about your family's reputation being harmed." "Everything will look like an accident," Leviathan explained. I let out a sigh of relief, but I stiffened when I saw Mammon approaching me.
"Allow me to drop you off until you get outside," he said. I nodded as he placed the mask on his face.
"You guys know Dove, right?"
Before I could complete my sentence, my body was on the ground with Mammon twisting my hand behind my back. I groaned in pain.
"Who told you about that?!" Mammon asked in a dangerously deep voice. Leviathan came to my aid.
"Mammon, let go of him!" "I'm sure Cynthia told him about that!" Leviathan hissed. Mammon let go of me, but he never stopped glaring at me.
"I am sorry about that, Vinter," Leviathan apologized. "Mammon is kind of overprotective over certain topics. Instead, let me drop you off outside."
Leviathan leads me out, motioning for Mammon to do something about which I'm not sure.
"I am sorry I wasn't snooping into your business back there," I said.
"Don't worry about it, Vinter." "I know you are a good man," Leviathan said. "Mammon is kind of overprotective over Dove because, unlike us, she lives alone, and as she's not an official part of the sins, it's even more dangerous for her."
"Yeah, Cynthia told me she's not an official part of your organization," I said.
"As Dove's mentor, I would like to ask for a favor," Leviathan said. A favor? Is this why he agreed to my condition of making my father's death seem like an accident?
"What favor?" I asked.
"My Chaos is a fragile girl; do not let go of her no matter what." "She has suicidal tendencies, so please watch out for her," Leviathan said.
"Why is Dove so important to you?" I asked.
"Why is your half-brother so important to you, Vinter?" He asked.
"Because he's my family," I said.
"Exactly. Dove is all I have outside of this crime world, so I would do anything to protect her," he said. "I never really told this to anyone, but for her sake, I would even go against Lucifer."
"She sees me as her father."
Dove sees this man as her father. Do they share a bond that deep? I will have to stay on the good side of this man if I want to make Dove trust me.
"Aren't you afraid I'll give this information out in the media?" I asked. Leviathan chuckled.
"You are a popstar, Vinter Harris. You are more worried about your reputation than we are about ours. If you let out any details that we discussed here today, there were cameras present in the room that captured everything that happened." "It will ruin you first," Leviathan said. I see; I know now where Dove got her smarts from.
"You are right," I said. "I will get going now, and don't worry, Dove is my soulmate. I'll take care of her."
Leviathan gave me a warm smile as I got inside my car. The moment Leviathan left, my entire composure fell, and I started shaking as I realized what had just happened.
"I sold my father's life..." I mumbled as tears rolled down my cheeks. My hands were shaking, and my legs were shaking. I had trouble breathing. The only thing that went on and on in my head was, "I sold my father's life."
It took a lot of strength for me to keep my composure in front of them. But now that I'm alone, I'm unable to deal with my mounting anxiety and fear. My father is going to die soon. How do I accept this fact?
