My friend!- Hawaii
"Aloha! My name is Hawaii, I'm the 50th state!
My human name is Kalea Jones.
My state is very wonderful, and full of great history! I have lots and lots of siblings as you probably already know! I love making people happy, and try and be friendly and kind to everyone.
I love lots of amazing friends!
So I thought that I'd introduce you to some of them!" Hawaii explained happily. Her black hair was done in two braids that went a little past her shoulders, beautiful fresh flowers adorned Kalea's hair. Her brown eyes were alive and bright, Her skin was fairly tan.
"Over here, try and keep up!" She called back to no one in particular. The girl had on a red hawaiian short sleeved baggy shirt, which she had scrunched up the excess to the back and tied it with a hair tie, exposing part of her belly. A bracelet made of blue beads that were hand carved was around a wrist, a shark tooth necklace around her neck.
She wore jean shorts and red flip flops.
Kalea spotted two boys a a little farther down from her on the beach, both boys in their swim trunks.
They seemed to be arguing, the taller boy laughing his ass off, he was holding a surf board. His gravity defying hair sticking out everywhere. One noticeable thing about the two was that they had the same shark teeth necklaces, but different teeth on each one.
"Aloha!" Hawaii called out to her friends running over to them and stopping in front of the two.
"Hey! Hawaii whazzup? You came at like, totally the perfect time! We were just about to go surfing, it'll be totally awesome! Wanna join us?" The taller boy asked, Kalea giggled smiling brightly.
"Maybe later! I wanted to introduce you two, these are my two best friends! California and Florida!"
"Heyo!" California greeted winking. "You probably like, already know me, but whateves'!"
"Hello." Florida said, "we're Hawaii's best friends. Together we're the shark trio, nice to meet you."
"So like, wanna surf or something?"
"No thank you, I just wanted to introduce you two to the audience! I'll see you later, I want to introduce them to my other friends!" Hawaii explained.
"Cool, but you're like, still coming to my house for the shark week party right?"
"Definitely! Wouldn't miss it for the world!" Hawaii promised, placing a hand over her heart, before running off. "Good bye Flor and Cali! I'll see you later!" Hawaii called back as she ran off.
"See ya!" Florida yelled.
"So how did like that last wave taste when you totally flunked?" California teased, smirking.
"Just shut up and help me find my board!" Florida spat back, stalking off to find his surf board.
"He's totally into me," California hummed, following Florida.
"My other friend Japan invited me over today! We're going to have so much fun!" Hawaii squealed, hardly containing her excitement.
"Oh! I almost forgot! I was going to give Alaska that friendship necklace I made for her. I hope she'll except it, she seems like a nice person." Hawaii mused, shivering softly "even though she is pretty scary... California told me that she beat him up when he tried to flirt with her..." She shivered.
She could see her breath because of the cold as she approached Alaska's house.
The loud barking of dogs could be heard from the fence on the other side of her house, Hawaii shivered.
"It's f-freezing..." She gulped when she saw the dogs growling and pawing at the fence from the other side, she flinched.
"It's ok Kalea... Deep breath..." She said, walking up to Alaka's house. There was no doorbell so she knocked softly on the door, only to have it fling open to reveal the tall Alaskin.
Hawaii fell back in surprise, letting out a small eep.
"Go away." Alaska hissed slamming her door shut.
'M-maybe going away would be a better idea...'
'Common Kalea! Don't give up now! Don't let this all be for nothing!!!' She encouraged herself, taking a deep breath she stood up again, looking down at her bleeding elbow. Which was steaming from the cold.
'It's almost like that anime Japan keeps telling me about... Attack of the titans?'
She brushed herself off and knocked on the door again, she had an envelope including a letter that she had written herself as well as the necklace she had made.
'Ok, deep breath. Let's do this...'
The little peak hole on the door slid open and she was met with Alaska's glaring ice blue eyes.
"I thought I told you to go away." She scowled, Hawaii took a deep breath.
"I-I'm sorry f-for trespassing Ms. Alaska. I just wanted to give you something. I know that you probably have important things to go, but I hope you'll accept this..." Hawaii gulped holding out the envelope for her to see and doing a small apologetic bow.
"..."
"E-everyone seems to be afraid of you, and I get it if you don't want to be friends or anything... But you seem pretty nice, so I thought I would just give it a shot-" Hawaii stuttered, nervous.
"You're afraid of me..." Alaska finished, her eyes were dull, almost lifeless. But somewhere in her eyes there was sadness.
Hawaii looked back up into her eyes. "What do you me-"
"You're talk, your reactions, stop fucking pretending." Alaska spat.
"I've seen it all before, you act nice and want to be my friend because of my resources. You're talking to me formally, and you keep stuttering. You're scared." She finished coldly, "no thanks. I don't need a friend, so if you would kindly leave or I will have to send out my dogs." She threatened, Hawaii looked at the ground, and Alaska closed the peek hole.
"I'm sorry for wasting your time..." She said, looking disappointed.
She smiled softly.
"But if you ever want someone to talk to, you can always talk to me." She offered, setting the envelope down in front of her door.
"I'll see you at the next state meeting then. It was nice talking to you Natalia!" She waved goodbye before starting to walk back home.
Alaska looked through the peak hole with a sigh.
"She's gone... Good."
Juneau whined from where he sat beside Alaska, the dogs tail wagging back and forth.
She sighed, "what?"
The dog tugged on her pant leg and then scratched at the door.
"No. I'm not going after her."
Juneau growled.
"I hate you..." She muttered opening the door, she looked around to see that Hawaii was gone, she spotted the envelope on the ground, it lifted off the ground and was about to fly away in the wind before she caught it, bringing it inside and closing the door behind her.
She sat against the door, Juneau wagging his tale curiously.
She took off her gloved and opened the envelope, pulling out a piece of loose leaf, decorated with realistic doodles of flowers and birds.
"Dear Alaska,
Hello! I'm Hawaii, but you probably already knew that!
I know that you spend a lot of your time alone and never really talk to anyone... Not that there's anything wrong with that but you always seemed pretty lonely, so I thought I'd make you something to cheer you up!
Maybe we can become friends? :)
With love,
Kalea Jones (Hawaii)"
Alaska looked back at the envelope, looking in it to see a beautiful bracelet made of woven leather and horse hair.
Decorated beads of several colors were woven into the bracelet, as well as a single piece of what seemed to be bone or shell that was attached to the bracelet, it had an intricate carving etched into it.
She studied the carving, it appeared to be a dog, standing with it's tail curled towards its body. It was rather beautiful.
Alaska looked at the bracelet, and slipped it carefully over her wrist.
A small smile formed on her face.
'Maybe having a friend, wouldn't be so bad after all...'
--Time skip.--
Hawaii skipped over to her friend Japan's house.
"Japan is one of my closest friends, we like to hang out a lot. He's super nice!" She said, ringing Japan's doorbell.
The shuffling of footsteps could be heard and Japan opened the door.
"Hello Hawaii, you came here just in time. Come in." He greeted doing a small bow as he invited her into his house, she smiled and thanked him, taking off her shoes, remembering the Japanese custom to do so.
"Would you like some tea Hawaii-chan?" He asked politely, smiling softly at his friend.
"Yes please," she answered, smiling brightly as she kneeled down at Japan's (Katasu table? What is that thing called. The table with the built in blanket or something?)
Japan started the tea over in the kitchen and soon came back with a tray with two cups of green tea, as well as some snacks, he sat down, setting the tray on the table. (I'm not even going to try and write what it's called... If you know what it is tell me.)
Hawaii took a sip of the tea, feeling relaxed at his home.
"What's been going on in your life lately? Has anything happened?" Japan asked curiously.
Hawaii set down her tea. "Yes actually, I went to go visit Alaska."
Japan's eyes widened in surprised, "Alaska?" He said in surprise.
Alaska wasn't exactly on the best terms with Japan after he attacked her during WWII, Alaska's still not over it.
"Yeah, you know her?" Hawaii raised an eyebrow.
"Um, hai. She doesn't like me very much after, you know..." Hawaii made an o with her mouth in understanding.
"So what happened?" He changed the subject.
"Well I went to her house, he's always by himself..." She began, but Japan interjected her.
"Pardon me for interrupting, but is Alaska a girl or a boy? You're using both pronouns." He said, both flustered and confused.
Hawaii looked as confused as he did, "I honestly don't know... I think Alaska's a girl... Anyway, so I had made her the bracelet that I told you about, and I wanted to try and become friends with her, I still do." Hawaii explained.
Japan nodded, listening.
"I went to talk to her but she kicked me out... She said something about me being afraid of her, she looked kinda sad."
"Are you afraid of her?"
"No..."
"Did you stutter or seem aloof when you talked to her?" Japan asked, Hawaii looked at the ground.
"Maybe a little..."
He sighed. "Maybe I am a little afraid of her... She's kinda scary." Hawaii admitted, ashamed. Japan frowned, "then that's probably why she looked so dejected. Pardon me for saying this Hawaii, but if you want to become friends with her, the first step is to not be afraid. You probably hurt her..."
Tears formed in Hawaii's eyes, "I know... I'm sorry..." She sniffled.
"I'm a terrible person..."
Japan tried to find a way to comfort her without touching her, getting a bit flustered he held his hands out to her as she cried, he began to panic.
"N-n-no y-you're not a terrible person! You just didn't make the best impression that's all!!!" He gulped.
She sniffled.
"Your stuttering..." She whimpered, more tears spilling from her eyes, he gave her a box of tissues, she took one blowing her nose into it.
"I mean it, you're not a terrible person! You just said something stupid that's all!"
That only made her cry harder.
'Shoot I'm making it worse!' Japan panicked.
"There's always next time! You just have to go over there, apologize, and explain yourself." He declared, Hawaii wiped the tears from her eyes.
"Yeah I guess, sorry..." She sighed, looking at the ground.
"It's ok. But if you want to be friend with Alaska then you have to be more confident." Japan explained, Hawaii nodded.
"You can't be scared of her."
She nodded once again. "Ok... I'll try."
Japan let out a sigh of relief.
"Good."
The two of them continued to chat for a while until Hawaii checked her watch.
"Ah! It's 5:30!!! I was supposed to meet California and Florida for shark week, shit shit shit! I need to go!" Hawaii yelled, panicking.
"Calm down, would you like me to drive you?"
"No thank you! There won't be enough time."
She said running over and slipping on her flip flops. "See you later Japan, thank you for inviting me!"
"Wait hold on- she's already gone..." He sighed as she rushed out the door.
"Oh well, she left her phone here... I'll have to give it back to her later." Japan sighed. Japan cat meowed purring, Japan smiled and gently petted his cat.
"Hawaii acts just like sailor moon sometimes I swear..." He commented smiling, his cat seemed to almost nod in agreement.
((Well that was a long chapter... Hope you all enjoyed! You can request which state you want me to make a chapter for next! See you all in the next chapter!))
