Chapter Six

"Why are you rushing around so much! Slow down!" Willow shouted as I wizzed past her again.

"Just help me find my phone!"

"Why are you going so fast?" She asked catching up with me as I made my way up the stairs.

I walked over into my room, picking up my pillows and throwing them around hoping I'd find my phone somewhere underneath one of them. "Billies picking me up in ten minutes and I don't even have my phone!"

"So that's why your so nervous?"

I paused looking over at Willow with a pillow in my hand. "Huh?"

"Because you're seeing Billie Joe again?"

"No! No- no I'm not nervous anyway,"

"You've been freaking out all day long- whats gotten into you?"

"Just- help me find my phone!"

Willow rolled her eyes walking away as I carried on moving things around off my bed. Leaving the bedding a mess as I made my way on to looking on my bed side table, shoving everything around aggressively trying desperately to find my phone.

I grunted, looking around again before Willow walked back in. I ignored her as she stood in the door way as I carried on looking, before she began to whistle.

"What Willow!"

She smiled over at me, my phone in her hand. "Look what I found,"

I sighed, making my way over as I opened out my hand. "Oh thank God." I smiled. "I thought I was gonna-"

Cutting myself off, Willow moved my phone in her hand behind her back. I furrowed my eyebrows looking over at her confused.

"Tell me why you're so jumpy and nervous- and you can have your phone,"

"Willow don't do this-"

"-I'm doing this,"

"I only have nearly five minutes left before Billie comes to pick me up- I don't have time for this!"

"Best get telling,"

"Willow please just-"

"-C'mon,"

I pinched the bridge of my nose taking a deep breath out. Before giving in. "Alright fine,"

"So...?"

"Billies picking me up today and- well- he's taking me to meet Tre and Mike again,"

Willow didn't look like she understood. She squinted her eyes at me. "So why is that so bad? Shouldn't you be excited?"

"Maybe if I hadn't left the way I did. Remember? I told no one- I didn't even tell you I was coming I told Billie Joe and that was it,"

"But they'd understand? I mean they're probably excited about meeting you- maybe you're just being silly,"

"They don't even know they're meeting me- Billie hasn't told them that he's even seen me since. And Billie mentioned that Mike sorta- somewhat understood,"

"And Tre?"

"He said Tre was really pissed off,"

"Oh,"

"Yeah,"

Willow bit her bottom lip nodding, understanding why. As I nodded too. Only just making myself more nervous about seeing Mike and Tre by speaking more about it. And before I knew it- I heard a beep outside the house.

"Shit." I let out. Running over to my bedroom window and pulling open the curtains. I saw Billies car parked on the curb waiting. "Billies here- shit shit shit shit,"

"Echo calm down- it'll be alright,"

I barged past Willow who was still stood in the door way in a hurry. Making sure to grab my phone from her hand while she was unfocused on gripping it. I made my way down the stairs fast, yanking my jacket on.

"You're gonna be fine, I'm sure they'll be more happy to see you then angry about past you." Willow spoke as she followed me down.

"You'd think that,"

"They will be, you're thinking about it too much,"

"Of course I am! I've not seen the guys since I was seventeen!"

"So be excited! You really need to stop focusing on the bad things- just be happy you've been given the opportunity to see the guys again. And if they're angry- apologise,"

I looked at Willow in the eyes for a second realising she was right.

If it was fate that pulled Billie and I together again. I couldn't be ungrateful. If it's all I've ever wanted why would I be here complaining? Tre had the right to be angry. So if he was I'd have to apologise. It would be owed to him.

I just needed to get over myself and stop being so dramatic.

I perused my lips together. Crossing my arms. "I hate when other people are right,"

"Best hurry up, he's still waiting for you,"

I sighed, before pulling Willow in for a quick hug. "Thanks Willow,"

"Don't mention it,"

After that, I'd left the house making my way over to Billie Joe's car parked on the side walk of my house. I climbed in beside him in passengers seat as he continued to smile at me. "Hello there,"

"Hi Billie," I blushed slightly.

"Are you ready to see Mike and Tre?"

I smiled over. "Absolutely,"

"Great!"

"Not,"

"Not so great-"

"-I'm just! I'm so nervous," I panicked again. "And that they don't even know I'm coming- what If I get there and they just don't want me there?"

"C'mon Echo- they're not evil,"

"But you said Tre was angry at me when I left?"

"Remembering rightly," Billie recalled. "But only a little bit. He's probably gotten over it by now,"

I sighed. Breathing out. Trying to relieve myself of the anxiety I was feeling. "Alright... if you say so,"

"So... are you ready to see Mike and Tre?" He asked, this time more cautiously.

"I think so,"

He smiled. "Great- best get driving before you change your mind," before quickly starting the car up.

I think I knew the moment I saw Billie again at the bar my life would be turning into an emotional rollercoaster. The first bump in my tracks, was gaining back everyones forgiveness.

Although to say Billie famous, he pulled up to a house that didn't look as so different to mine. There was no way this could've been his permanent house right?

I took a deep breath sitting beside Billie in passenger as he slowly parked the car into the houses drive way. "Oh shit," I mumbled to myself.

"Just don't think about it too much," Billie advised, the car coming to a complete stop as he clicked off his seat belt. "It'll be fine. Trust me."

Although I didn't quite believe him, I knew there was no getting out of this. My hands shaking a little from nerves, I undid my safety belt and slowly got out the car after Billie had.

We walked over to his house, to the front door. Billie looked over at me one more time to check if I was doing okay. I nodded, knowing if we stalled anymore it would only get worse.

With the front door opening, I could already hear their voices speaking from the inside. Billie grabbed my hand pulling me inside after him, signalling with a finger on his lips to be quiet as we shut the door slowly.

"Just wait here," Billie whispered to me, as we stood next to the front door.

I looked at him nervously. "Huh? Where are you going?"

"I'm just gonna speak to them- don't worry, just wait here." He let go of my hand, walking down the corridor and through a door way leaving the door open behind him.

I stood there more nervous than anything. Listening to Billie begin a fake conversation.

"Hey guys," I heard his voice speak out first, to what I assume was Mike and Tre in there.

"Where've you been Beej?" Tre's voice asked.

"I needed to go do something. But I got something I need to show you guys,"

"Is it a surprise?" Mike asked.

"Sorta,"

"Is it a present?" Tre spoke after.

"No- it's not a present Tre,"

"So what is it?"

There was a moment of silence, before Billies head popped back out the door way. He extended his arm out with an open hand, asking for me to take it and follow him.

I stood frozen, shaking my head nervously at him. Before he sighed, chuckling slightly walking over to me.

"It's gonna be alright." He whispered, before taking my hand anyway and pulling me over.

My eyes nervously jolted around before I was successfully pulled into the room. Mike and Tre sat on the sofa, but their heads turned curiously as they looked straight at Billie and I.

I paused, Billie dropped my hand as they now looked at me and me only.

Mike squinted his eyes, turning around on the sofa so he was kneeling on it, holding on to the back rest as he looked at me. "Is that?"

My eyes flickered back from Tre and Mike. The both of them staring hard at me trying to understand.

Billie spoke up after a long moment of stares. "It's Echo,"

Mikes face broke out into a smile. "No way." He shook his head, before leaping over the sofa.

Before I had chance to say anything, Mike pulled me in to his arms happily. Squeezing me tight as I felt my feet lift of the ground in his hug. "No way!" He repeated, before letting go.

"Hi," I nervously smiled.

"I haven't seen you in forever! No way! What are you doing in New Jersey? I- well I thought you left California to go to Willows on a coach not on the other side of the country?"

I laughed off my nerves. "Me and Willow- we moved- erm- here together,"

"You still see willow?"

"I still live with her,"

"Where'd you find her?" Tre spoke up, still looking over from the sofa Confused. And for once Mike was the more energetic one.

The three of us looked over at Tre. I felt my nerves begin to rise again as he squinted at me.

"I actually met Echo in the bar," Billie shrugged. "Long story short- I lost my wallet and she happened to find it,"

"Just happened to bump into her?" He asked, almost like he didn't believe what Billie was telling him. And not in a happy way.

"Well... yeah Tre?" Billie confirmed confused. "She had my wallet when I was looking for it?"

"Aren't you gonna say hi Tre?" Mikes tone to Tre was passive aggressive, I could feel the tension of Billie and Mike towards Tre's reaction to me being here just by standing there. It wasn't pleasant.

Tre paused for a moment. Contemplating if he really wanted to say hi. And it hurt. Like fuck.

Although Tre and I weren't best friends like Billie and I were, he was there for me. A lot. I still thought a lot of him, and I considered him an important part of my life. We had our funny moments- and now some how down the line things had led to this. He didn't even know if he wanted to say hi to me. After years and years and years- he didn't know.

"Hey-" Mike finally spoke up out of the silence, looking over at me. "-How about I show you our instruments downstairs in the basement? I'll catch you up,"

I nodded, feeling thankful for Mikes thoughtfulness. "That sounds cool," I finally smiled.

"Awesome!" He looked over at Billie. Quickly pointing his eyes to Tre, asking Billie to speak to him while I was distracted like a child.

Billie nodded, as Mike grabbed my hand eagerly and led me out of the room over to another door. "This is where we keep out instruments for the time being- or when one of us has an idea," Mike told me opening the door as it led down to some stairs. "Mind your step, these stairs are steep,"

"For the time being?" I questioned, following him down the stairs.

"Yeah- y'know... temporarily,"

I looked over at the instruments they had. It wasn't packed like Billies basement use to be, but I guess if this is just temporary it wouldn't be. They probably had hundreds of other instruments back at home.

"It's Blue," I smiled, pointing over to Billies signature guitar mounted on the wall.

"You remember blue?"

"With a creative name like that how could you forget it,"

Mike laughed, before putting his bass guitar down and picking blue up instead. "You wanna hold her?" He looked over at me.

"Are you kidding? That thing must be priceless- I can't hold it,"

"Sure you can," he shrugged walking over. Before I could protest, Mike put the guitar strap over my head. Slowly resting it down as I was forced to hold it.

The guitar itself was pretty heavy, being an electric. I looked down at it in awe, the amount of masterpieces it's produces for their band. Of course not forgetting Mike and Tre's instruments.

The stickers on it were coloured with age and time, some ripping off or tearing apart. His clasic 'BJ' with red tape had begun to look a little more brown then red with everything it'd been through.

"So- what's going on?" Mike spoke up after a moment of me staring down at the guitar. "What happened when you left? What do you do now? How have things been? It's been so long since I've seen you,"

He sat down on a stool as I shrugged looking up. "Well... my life's not been as interesting as probably your guys has. I run a tattoo shop now? I still share a house with Willow, that's about it," I shrugged carefully, not forgetting the guitar.

"Y'know it's been so long since I've seen you," Mike smiled. "I can't even remember fully when the last time I seen you was,"

I thought back- remembering I didn't say goodbye.

I didn't see him before I left? Before that I found out I was leaving when I went to see my grandma? Before that... I got dragged out detention.

"The last time I saw you," I realised. "We were all sat in detention,"

He clicked his fingers, pointing his finger at me. "That's it! When you got dragged out!"

"Uhuh! And my mom took me on this long crazy trip to see my grandma,"

He nodded. "Billie told us about that,"

"So- well, what have you guys been up to? I mean- your band obviously took off," I laughed slightly, turning the conversation to Mike.

"Well," he thought back. "Our first album. Did good? Second did better- it was really our third album that took us to fame,"

"I see you guys all the time,"

"You do?"

"Yeah," I smiled excitedly. "On posters, billboards, really everywhere. It's crazy to think I knew you guys,"

"Sorry to interrupt-" A third voice joined in. I turned around carefully still with the guitar, looking straight at Billie. "-but, I was wondering if you'd talk to Tre for a second Mike,"

"What's wrong with him?" Mike asked me from behind.

Billie shrugged, walking over as he stood beside me. "I don't know- maybe he's just finding it hard to believe. But he's starting to annoy me, so I think you'd be better talking to him,"

Mike nodded. "Got it." Before walking up the stairs and leaving the room.

I squeezed my eyes shut. Cringing. "I knew this'd be a bad idea,"

"Havent you enjoyed talking to Mike?" Billie asked me.

I opened my eyes, breathing out. "Course- more than anything. But Tre doesn't even wanna know me,"

"C'mon now," Billie pouted. "That's not true,"

I didn't reply. I think even he must've known he was a little wrong. Tre had every right to be angry, I don't blame him for being.

"I see you've found blue," He spoke up again.

I looked down at the guitar. "Oh- yeah... Mike let me try her on,"

"Y'know any songs?"

I looked at him, trying not to laugh. "Do I know any-" but failed laughing. "-no way!"

"Alright..." he frowned at my response of laughing. "Any chords?"

"...not one,"

He rolled his eyes laughing slightly as I carefully traced my hands up the red guitar strap, taking it off as I lifted it over Billies head. Placing the guitar in his arms instead as the strap rested on his shoulders.

"So what did Tre say?" I asked him, letting go of the guitar as I stepped back.

Billie smiled at the gesture. Picking up the guitar as he traced over a few random chords up the neck of the guitar. "Not a lot," he answered. "He mostly said how he didn't think he'd ever really see you again,"

"Is be angry he's saw me again?"

Billies eyes shot up immediately. "No- no no course he's not," he assured. "I think he's just hurt. Tre's a tough guy, but sometimes he takes things to heart about the people he cares about. He told me he missed you a lot Echo, trust me,"

I listened to Billie as I went over to the stool Mike was sitting on previously. Nodding. "So... maybe I should be the one to talk to him then.. huh?"

Billies lips pursed, like he was in an awkward situation. He carefully took the guitar off himself and rested it back on the wall. Before coming over to me.

"I didn't think you'd wanna do that," He mumbled to me, placing his hands on my shoulders as he stood in front.

"I'm a little nervous, but I guess I owe it to him. He has every right to feel the way he feels,"

"Well... let me ask you something,"

I looked up at him, I couldn't remember ever being this close to Billie. But I remembered every detail of his face. Even the tiny scars he had. "What is it?"

"Do you plan on sticking around this time? Like- really sticking around?"

"Course I do Billie Joe it's-"

"-I mean... y'know I mean... I mean like, with us. Are you willing to stick with us? Y'know with the band and the tours, the signings and-"

"-Yes. Billie, I wanna stick around. It's not that I didn't the first time," I assured him. "It's just that-"

"-No, I know. Your parents,"

"Exactly," I whispered.

He looked down away from my face for a few seconds. Biting his bottom lip. Before he looked back at me breathing in again. "Well, if you wanna stick around. Maybe you and Tre would need to talk between yourselves,"

"You're right,"
