Anton Berlique was a mild-mannered surveyor for the construction company, Bechtel. He and his brother, Barry Berlique, worked with the company in San Francisco, both surveyors and both fond of board games. An accident involving the death of his brother drove Anton to seek out justice and dispell injustices as the vigilante 'The Dicer.' The Dicer is known for his dice-shaped mask and katana which he uses to dice his victims. Anton also has a split-personality disorder, projecting his brother as another side of himself. We find Anton a few months after the fall of Bechtel, with a new lead.

Dirk Richards was a recovering Philadelphian alcoholic after a car accident thrust him into sobriety. The car accident caused the death of a man. The dead man's son, Zheng, grew close to Dirk and his family as a ploy to poison them with his malevolence. With a vengeful spirit, Zheng imbued Dirk's family members with paralysation of arms, hunger and brittle teeth. Through these three stages, they would all slowly die unless Dirk would consider Zheng's ultimatum of killing one of his family members to save the rest. Dirk accepted his fate, picking randomly from his family members and killing Ovi, his middle child, and burying her in the backyard. We find Dirk a few months after Ovi's death, having moved into a new house and with a guest in their basement.

Conall Warner used to be a MMA fighter in the 80s under the ring name of 'Lostar', but retired shortly after winning his only championship. He took his prize money and settled down at Hotel Brownwood, Texas. He trained a boy, Suparto Cataclyst. His ex girlfriend was murdered on the docks near the hotel. She was dealing drugs to another woman, whose boyfriend, Yaegar Wood, also lived at the hotel. Conall and Yaegar bonded over their losses. Soon after, Conall's room is broken into by two men with alien face masks and shotguns. Conall confronts them only to be beaten down. The two men only take a stack from Conall's prize money. It turned out to be Yaegar who had killed the two women on the pier and had broken into Conall's room. Conall confronts him alone, taking him down successfully. He turns Yaegar into the cops, but discovers that the rookie, Bimbo, was a part of the break-in. We continue Conall's story and jump 20 years into the future where we find Conall is in Philadelphia, and he has his reasons.

Ben Briar was an expeditionist in Antarctica in the 80s, solving a mystery of missing people, including his father, Earl Briar, and grandmother, Molly Briar. His expedition leads to being frozen in an iceberg. This iceberg reaches a new world, inhabited by water, where the iceberg is worshipped by all of the species. The species comprise of the tribes of Wayfarers (walkers on water), Floaters (swimmers) and Compellers (manipulators of water). Ben develops the characteristics of the Compeller and pursues Valery Koningsbrugge after kidnapping Jennifer Valasquez. He finds his father and grandmother in the water world, both retaining the same age when they went missing. We find Ben immediately after the events of Ripples, submerged in lava and with visions of his condo.

Valery Koningsbrugge was part of the population of Wayfarers, in the Ripples world that Ben discovered. He can walk on water and abnormally breathe huge bubbles. He used to lead a pack of Wayfarer children, amongst them was his right-hand girl, Molly. Caught up in the meeting with Ben and his father, he found an opportunity to trade Jennifer as a child from the iceberg. He took Jennifer and was pursued by Ben down to the underwater stations where chaos ensued. It was revealed to him, through broken memories, that he had underestimated the power of his bubbles. His bubbles can change reality with a thought, something he let his emotions corrupt when he transformed what were once adult Wayfarers into loyal Wayfarer children and Molly into a mute child. Valery decided to venture into the human world with Ben, Molly and Jennifer. We find Valery immediately after the events of Ripples, submerged in lava and questioning the human word, 'pig.'

Xyler Daschund was a game developer who made a VR game based on his life preceding his capture. The game was called Lucid and it presents Xyler as the protagonist, who chose to lucid dream in hopes of tapping into creativity and inspiration for his game. He found out that he could bring one dream element, for each time he dreamt, into the real world by simply blocking it from the dream. One such dream made him block out a dragon transfiguration potion, and so in the real world, he has the ability to turn into a dragon. While awake, an invasion of apes threatens America which Xyler single-handedly defeats as a dragon. We find Xyler a few months after he saved the world, captured by an unknown organisation.
