Prologue

America raced down the road. How could she have been so stupid? She asked herself. She had seen the signs, but she hadn't realized they were recent. She should've just turned around and go straight back to their cave. But for some reason she didn't. Still, she had walked down the middle of the road. She didn't know there were still walkers. Now she was running. Not just for her life, but for the life of her two unborn children as well.

"It's going to be o.k." She whispered to herself. She rounded the last corner and froze. Standing in front of her was a huge, blue skinned, man. His eyes where sunken and bloodshot. The whole right side of his face was hanging from the bottom of his jaw. They stood there for a minute, trying to register what had just happened, and then, with such a fast pace, he grabbed her arms. Pulling her towards him, he bent his head down to take a bite out of her hand. She shrieked in fear sacked him in the side of his head with her metal soup container filled purse. Yelling, he let go of her arms and covered his face with his hands. Without wasting a second, America turned and ran the other way. "Must get into the light." She was mumbling to herself as she bounded the corner she had turned just moment before. She heard him start after her. She was reaching the end of the shadows cast down from the trees above her. She heard him breathing next to her ear. Reaching the sunlight, she ran into the middle of the road. The sun was in the middle of the sky. She felt his long nails scrape down her back. She heard her pursuer stumble and fall. Even though she was exhausted, in pain, and wounded, she pushed onward, the sun beating on her bloody back. Finally, she reached the cave. Opening the door, she collapsed on the couch. Trogdor, her husbands kitten, was pacing by the bedroom door. America grabbed the baseball bat and opened the bedroom door.

"America?" A deep, raspy, voice greeted her. The bat slipped out of her grasp. Standing in the middle of the large room was her friend since they were three years old. The person who stood next to her and comforted her at her mother's funeral. The man who held her hand as her father passed away. The father of her unborn children. Her husband.

Her whole body shook slightly. Her hand felt the wall, trying to find the light switch. After a few awkward seconds, she found it, and flicking the switch, she turned on the lights. "Sky?" She whispered, in shock. She took a few steps towards him. Then, Her knees buckled and everything went black.
