Chapter 62.
Ezra. I should've known. He's always up to no good and this time he's taking my friends in his little devious plan.
"Nice seeing you again." He smirked.
"Ezra, put the gun down." I spoke through gritted teeth.
He looked back at Tyler. Now that I look at him closer, he looked severely beaten up. This only made me angrier.
"Please, your terrifying his sister." I pinned my eyes at him.
Ezra laughed, "Oh, so that's his sister? Interesting."
He turned back to Tyler, shrugging his shoulders and gracefully putting the gun down. It was dug back out of sight as he took multiple steps forward.
I felt my heartbeat in my ears, lips became dry. I was scared to death but I wasn't going to let him take that as an advantage. So I kept my head held high and jaw stiff. I was afraid that if it wasn't stiff, it would've started to tremble in fear. That would've gaven me away in seconds.
"So how come you're not threatening me with Zayn?" He smirked. "Oh wait.. He left you didn't he?"
I stayed quiet, swallowing down the lump in my throat before glaring up at Tyler. Ignoring what he told me about Zayn, my main concern right now was Allison and getting all three of us out of here safely. Why is it that Ezra only shows up in the worst time possible?
"Just let us go." I almost begged.
He shook his head, his same devious smile plastered across his face. "I'm afraid I can't do that.."
This only tensed me even more.
"You see.. The whole point of getting you here is so that Zayn can come, even if it meant luring your little friends too."
"That's a shame, because Zayn's not coming." I felt Allison's grip get tighter on mine. "He's smarter than that."
"And how are you so sure?" He pinned his eyes.
"Because I do.. Now let us go." I demanded.
"Didn't we just do this?" He sighed. "You're not going anywhere princess."
"Fine then let my friends go. If it's me you want than it's me you'll get." I turned back to look at Allison, nodding my head in agreement as if I was fine. But deep down, I was terrified. I don't want to be left alone with Ezra due to last time that happened. Then again, this is my problem not theirs. I'm not going to drag them into this.
"No, Paige. I'm not leaving without you." Allison whispered but Ezra heard.
"None of you are leaving!" He turned around in circles to also look at Tyler and then back at us.
I stopped to look at him. My breathing heightened as I look a deep breath towards what I was going to say, hoping that because of this, I wouldn't start a conversation to end my life.
"What's the point?" I shrugged my shoulders.
He grew angrier as his face went completely stunned. I saw it coming but I was willing to use it just to find out what's going on.
"What do you mean What's the point?" He paused. "My whole reputation is the point!" He nearly yelled, walking up to me with anger. "I'm getting it back!"
I didn't move even though he was just inches away. Though he gave me the scene of fear, I wasn't going to run. He'll catch me just like always and kill me. I'm getting out of this, but not by running.
"Is this what it's always going to be about? A reputation?" I argued.
He got angry but pulled off an evil smirk at the end. His large hand cupping both of my cheeks and making my cautioning heighten. "Do you actually think that by giving me a lecture about what I'm doing is wrong is going to change everything? Do you really think I'm that stupid?"
I quickly moved his hand away from my face, taking a step back with Allison still trembling behind me.
"I know what I'm doing is fucking wrong! But I don't give two shits about it. It's my God Damn reputation! Mine!" He yelled.
I swallowed another lump down my throat before speaking. "Are you listening to yourself?" I continued. "You seriously want Zayn's reputation?"
He stood silence as an answer to my question.
"You are literally the dumbest person I've ever met." I paused and he looked pretty pissed off. "Zayn never wanted that reputation. So if it's that you want.. Then take it." I shrugged my shoulders.
He was confused, it showed it in his face. But I wasn't dumb, my eyes were looking around all the time; trying to find something to use to get away. I've grown wiser out of Zayn's relationship. He's really opened up my eyes to these kinds of situations. I think I'm capable of pulling off a few escape plans right from the top of my head.
"You heard me." I started speaking confidently once I figured that if I get closer to him, I'll be able to use some kind of force on him, grab his weapon, and then have the other guys and Ezra in surrender until I get Tyler and Allison and we leave without any trouble.
This can actually work, I'm surprised that came to me pretty quickly.
"Zayn never wanted people to fear him. He did it for the sake of his family. He didn't even let his own brother follow him! It's because he knows it's a stupid thing to follow." I let go of Allison's hand, slowly continuing to walk up to him. "But you Ezra, you are stuck in the past. If you think Zayn got back your reputation you must be really blind because he didn't go there to get it back. As a matter of fact, he wasn't even expecting you to be there with that girl! So what I don't understand is why you're always chasing after Zayn if he wants nothing to do with you?" I continued, stopping face to face with the devil looking male. "The reputation is yours."
At that moment I had him fully concentrated on what I said. But I didn't waste another second in just having him stare at me. My right hand rose up, fisting in the air as I diverted it to the center of his face. I took him by surprise, knocking him down with much force than I expected.
He started mumbling some curse words, falling to the ground on his knees and giving me the chance to dig into his shirt. I searched and I searched, Allison's screaming starting to be heard from the background. Ezra was still recovering from the punch I gave him, spitting blood from his mouth.
"It always was." I almost growled, finally finding the weapon and pulled it out in front of the other guys who were starting to move closer to me.
I noticed they've taken Tyler off the ground, holding him hostage once more. My hands trembled in fear of holding a gun. I wasn't going shoot, I wouldn't dare. But if I can get them to believe I would then believe they shall.
Allison tried controlling her screams in the background. I never left contact with the guys in front of me, glancing back at Ezra whenever I had the chance.
"Okay.." I continued, nerves clearly starting to act up in my tone. "Hand me the guy and no one will get hurt!"
The guys looked at me in a laughing way, like if I wasn't serious enough. Mouthing things like, She Won't Shoot, She's a Girl. And Is She Being Serious?
I opened my mouth to speak more seriously but something stopped me from doing so.
"You little bitch!" Ezra stood up from his hands and knees, the sounds of bones cracking sending chills down my spine as he cracked his neck. A smirk grew wider across his bloody face. He looked like those killers from the scary movies and I end up being the dumb, scared girl with a gun she doesn't even know how to use.
I moved the gun towards him, aiming him to not come any closer.
He raised his hands in surrender, smiling again shortly after.
"Go ahead." He chuckled. "Shoot me, shoot me right in the head.."
He wasn't making this any easier for me. If it was someone else they'll do it, but not me. I'm not taking a life to save mine.
"Pathetic!" He laughed, putting his hands down.
"Just give me the guy and let us go!" I exclaimed.
"I already explained it to you." He paused, breath coming out in huge puffs as a frown grew upon him.
He caught me off guard the next moment, forcefully thowing the gun from my hands across the ground leaving me empty handed and no defence.
He reached over to grab me the next second. I ran and didn't give him the chance. Screaming from the top of my lungs, I called for Allison to run. She did, but shortly after, some of Ezra's friends were already surrounding her.
My eyes scurried the circumference of the space I was in. There has to be something I can use for defence here. But what?
I stopped running to catch my breath, a dead end between the wall and Ezra awaited in front of me. Ezra was still running behind a little slower. I didn't stop though, searching for a way out. And that's when I saw it.
A wooden crate, something used in grocery stores to ship foods and packages, was lying on the ground. It's not much but a good wack with wood wouldn't be so bad.
I grabbed the top, yanking one of the boards off and a second one for Allison. When I turned around, Ezra was standing right behind me. The blood still beginning to dry on his face. Nervously, I turned one of the wood pieces around to the broken side, the side that could jab into just about anything.
"You're seriously not giving up, huh?" He cracked a smile.
"I'm tired of running away from you, Ezra." I stated, inhaling as much air as possible before letting it exhale back out. My hands shook nervously at the hold of the wooden stick as he started laughing.
"So I guess sleeping with a bad boy made you fearless, right?" He paused. "Well you're wrong!" He exclaimed. "You don't have the guts to do anything with that. You don't even have the guts to anything to me at all!" He started to laugh again before dropping his gaze dead to me and speaking through gritted teeth; "You're just a scared, little, bit--"
At that moment, sounds of screeching tiers set off an alarming feeling inside me.
Oh no, more guys!
Ezra turned his body fully around, giving me a chance to notice it was a motorcycle pulling up ahead. But it wasn't just any motorcycle...
"Zayn." I breathed out in almost a relief tone.
I was right. His body quickly got off the motorcycle, taking off his helmet to reveal his dark eyes. His jaw was tense, fist already balling up as he started moving towards us.
I never thought he'd come. How did he even know what was going on? I don't know, but honestly I don't care. I'm just glad he's actually here.
"Zayn! Nice to see you again." Ezra smiled. "I sent you a house warming gift when you were in Queens, did you like it?"
Zayn's fist slowly rose up, speaking through gritted teeth as he walked from the shadows into the dim moonlight."Enough with small talk."
That moment, his fist landed on Ezra's jaw, knocking him right to the ground as he laid multiple punches onto him.
I had moved away right on time. If I stayed where I was, I would've been crushed by Ezra's body. But I was still terrified. Looking at Zayn beat the life out of the guy was something I never wanted to experience seeing again. The sounds of blood being spit out by from Ezra's mouth, the look of murder on Zayn's innocent face; it was all just too much. And what was I doing? Nothing, I just stood there and watched.
Thoughts in my head were leading me to do what I always do and go in to stop him, but a scream from behind me alerted me to stop.
I turned. They caught Allison, placing a switch blade right beneath the spot where her jaw met her neck. Tyler was being held back by the other four guys, his mouth still covered with the heavy duct tape forcing him to not scream as he struggled to break free.
"Allison!" I yelled racing up the guy and her.
"Get off her you asshole!" I shouted. Without giving much thought to my words, or actions, I jumped onto the guy's back. We fell to the floor and I was cautious enough to throw the blade away before it made contact with Allison's face.
He started to groan on the ground in pain. I took the chance and grabbed his hands to pin them over his head. My head turned over my shoulder, "Allison! Get the board! Hurry!"
The guys holding Tyler were trying to hold him down so that two of them can come and stop what Allison and I were doing. We didn't have much time but Tyler was sure keeping them busy.
"What do I do?" She panicked looking down at us.
I looked back at the guy, noticing he was knocked out unconscious from our fall. He hit his head I suppose but he's still alive.
Quickly, I stood up, dusting myself off before looking back at her. My eyes suddenly widened, heart falling to my stomach as I saw one of the tall guys holding Tyler down came up behind her. Another switch blade was held tightly in his grip.
"Allison watch out!" I shouted and she quickly turned, knocking the blade out of his hand with the board.
I reacted by racing up to him, giving him a punch straight to his face with my fist. I wasn't strong enough to knock this one out but it did make him start bleeding. Allison immediately jumped in with her defense and slapped him across the face with the board. It broke in half but it made him lose balance towards the hit. My leg then stretched out to make him fall completely and he too, fell unconscious with a broken nose.
We stepped away, catching our breaths for a moment before going back out to face the last three guys. These looked harder than other two. How are we going to do this?
Looking around, my eyes spotted a metal pipe. Without looking around or even telling Allison, I ran up to it but someone else crashed me down to the floor along with them.
My body felt in complete pain, including the amount of weight crushing onto me from above left me motionless. I was held enclosed by my arms, having no power to even move. I was trapped.
I tried to gasp for air since my lungs didn't seem like doing much of their work with the fall. But what scared me most was the male on top of me holding his fist up in the air.
"Any last words, beautiful?" He smirked, breathing heavily down to me.
All the energy I had left inside me was balled up, all going to do the one thing possible at the moment.
"Zayn!" I yelled, closing my eyes a small tear fell down my left cheek.
I didn't want to see it, his fist coming closer me, ending my life being. Zayn would probably come too late anyways due to our distance, or maybe Ezra had him down. Either way, at least I'll leave with his name being my last word.
His deep laugh was all I heard before I held my breath. A few seconds later, and the fist never met my face. Or anything actually.
"I don't think so." A voice, not at all similar to Zayn's sounded. I opened my eyes seeing that the guy's fist was being stopped by someone else's hand. I was still a little bit dizzy from the fall but my vision soon became clear enough to see it was Louis.
He stood the guy up away from me.
"Haven't your parents ever told you that hitting a girl is not allowed?" He grinned. Just seconds before that, I saw him punch him to the ground, hitting his face repeatedly amounts of times.
My vision got blurry again. I looked up but only saw Allison peer up over me. A look of shock in her face was noticeable.
"Paige! Oh my God, you're bleeding!" She panicked even more.
I touched the top of my forehead, feeling the oozing substance make contact with my fingertips. Her hands quickly helped me up the next second, I was still very confused and my vision wasn't making things better either.
"Can you hear me?" She asked looking into both of my eyes at a time.
I shook my head to wake me up as I suddenly felt fatigued. Shortly after, I turned over to see Louis finish over with the guy with a big fuck you at the end.
"Where's Zayn?" He asked sternly at Allison and I.
I turned over to the direction they were in. Only Zayn wasn't in control anymore.
"Allison!" Tyler's voice shouted as he managed to rip the tape from his mouth.
By the time we looked back towards what Tyler was warning us about, one guy was already racing up behind Allison. Louis rapidly jumped in, punching him in the stomach and finishing him up as Allison came screaming to me.
My heart felt like it was going to just give up any minute now from all the pumping it's been doing lately. But I wasn't just going to give up. Not now. Not like this.
I turned over to look at Tyler. He was fighting with the other guy but it pretty much useless because he was all tied up.
"Help the kid!" Louis yelled, stopping to look back at us. "I'll get Zayn!"
I nodded, grabbing the metal pipe I was going go grab before while Allison held to her wooden board. We reached up to the guy who was now on top of Tyler, giving him some heavy punches to the face. Allison went on one side and I on the other. Immediately, we started hitting his back repeatedly. He backed away, groaning in pain before Allison finished it off once more by hitting the wood to his head. He knocked down.
"That's for hurting my brother you BITCH!" Allison shouted before dropping her weapon besides her in an exhausted manner and looking back at her brother. "Tyler!" She immediately raced to him, falling down to the floor with him as she cried. He laid there weakened by the beating but managed to pull his sister in an embrace. They were relieved.
But I still wasn't.
Louis just got to where Zayn was, pulling Ezra's sluggish, beaten body off from Zayn's as he finished it off.
My legs started sprinting to him, feeling a little light headed as I fell to my knees besides him. Tears came rushing down as I saw him in the condition he was in. I gently turned him over to lay flat on his back, quickly noticing the big red spot of liquid coming out from his lower left side.
"Zayn!" My voice cracked.
He grabbed my hand which was cupping my mouth and held it with his on my lap. A smile appeared in his lips as he got comfortable. "The motherfucker had a switch blade." He chuckled. "But I'm fine."
"You're hurt?" I looked at him.
Just as he was going to say something else, someone came up behind me.
"Isn't this lovely?"
I turned around, noticing it was Ezra and then quickly stood up in front of Zayn's body. My breath highly speeded up again as I noticed Louis coughing in a corner. I bet he stabbed him too. This night has turned into the worst night possible And now look at where it's ended up. Just me and Ezra.
"Oh, so now you're the one protecting him?" He smirked, spitting out blood and holding the gun I previously knocked out of his hold in front of me. "This is so romantic."
I never left eye contact with the gun. I was frozen completely. I was even too scared to look away.
Zayn grunted on the floor, forcing himself to stand up as he winced in pain to stand up in front of me. One hand was on top of his wound as he stood straight up with a furious look on his face.
"Leave her out of this." He spoke through gritted teeth.
"And what fun will that be?" He questioned. "She already knocked down all my guys.. I don't see why not?"
"You're a total fuck you know that?" Zayn pinned his eyes at him. At the same time, I grabbed the sleeve of his leather jacket in my hand and fisted it as tightly as possible.
"Yeah." He nodded. "But if it means getting rid of you then I don't care if I'm the biggest fuck around."
"Why is this so important to you?" Zayn asked.
"Again with the pep talk!" He grunted. "Just save it, okay? Enough chit chatting."
He loaded the gun, smirking at Zayn as I felt the whole world begin to stop. It was as if it all went in slow motion. My scream felt like it was heard in a low, dramatic way. The bullet was fired as I closed my eyes. And then there was another one. Two bullets shot and the body hovering over mine like a shield didn't move.
Zayn remained standing. I questioned myself towards this and forced my eyes to open. Slowly, I realized that.. Yes, two bullets were shots. But not one hit Zayn.
I looked down to where the scene seemed to be diverted to by the male protecting me.
Someone jumped in. That someone sacrificed themselves for us. That someone was...
