Chapter 61.

We entered the big building filled with dim lights. I always loved this movie theater. It was a great place to get away to, to focus on other things rather than you-know-who. My friends know me too well. And Tyler only made things better as he continued with his jokes and comments.

The lobby was packed today. I wouldn't be so surprised, Friday night's are a big deal since its when every premier comes out. Not to mention, that new Dave Franco movie I so badly wanted to see. Things were surprisingly turning around for me, I just had to step out and see.

"Okay so, what's the plan?" Ariana asked, making us stop and turn around to look at her.

Allison looked back at all of us. "Well, Tyler and I can go buy the tickets. Claire, can you go get the food and stuff?"

Claire nodded, gesturing her head back at Ariana and I. "Wanna come?"

We nodded, immediately going our separate ways. I was now following behind Ariana who was following behind Claire as we did our best to maneuver ourselves around the sea of people to get to the treats bar. I must say we were halfway there before I felt my phone start ringing in my back pocket.

I stopped, reaching in for my phone and swiping it unlocked. It was a message. I was about to read who it was from before I crashed into someone else.

I released a gasp, quickly apologizing as I looked back up. The person was also apologizing but we both stopped ourselves as we noticed who we were looking right at.

He was tall, dark hair. His piercing eyes were focused down on me as he still wore his punk-style looking clothes.

"Louis." I smiled.

"Paige Hoffer," He smirked, "What a coincidence. Haven't seen you in a while, how are you?"

He backed away, digging his phone in his back pocket before running a hand through his long light brown hair. I didn't think I'd bump into someone tonight, especially Louis. I wasn't ready for this, I'm surprised I'm even smiling right now. I was shocked. Not to mention, after what happened,  I don't know how I am supposed to feel.

"I'm fine." I smiled. "And you?"

"Ah you know.. whatever." He shrugged his shoulders. "So how come you're here tonight?"

I turned over my shoulder, noticing some people have cleared of of the way enough for me to see my friends beginning to order."Just came to watch a movie with some friends." I turned back around to see him with a smile still planted on my face. "And you?"

"Same." He continued, "Only she's taking long in the bathroom."

I nodded my head, smiling as much as I could in a long time. "Well, you know us girls.."

"Yeah." He chuckled, digging his hand in his front pocket while the other ran back his hair once more since it was getting in his face. "So um." He cleared his throat. "How come I haven't seen you lately? We've all been asking about you?"

"Huh?" I furrowed my eyebrows. All of them having been asking about me?

"Yeah. Harry, Niall, Liam, Vanessa.."

"Oh." I looked down a little disappointed. Now I was stuck in his first question. How am I going to respond to that? I mean, I'm sure I can come up with an explanation but I need time. "Zayn hasn't told you?"

He looked at me with questionable eyes, eyes I couldn't see myself lying to. I don't want anybody to try and solve this, which is maybe why I don't want to talk about it. I know that if Louis does try to solve this, it'll come from the good in his heart but honestly I can't make this far more worse than how it already is.

"We--"

"Paige!" My head spun around to see my friends telling me to come over. "Come here. Quick!"

I gave them a small nod to my head before turning back to Louis who was patiently waiting for me to answer him. The look on my face felt a little guilty but at this point, I rather just ignore the subject and go back to my friends. "I'm sorry.."

"Nah, don't sweat it." He smiled. "Have fun."

"Thanks." I nodded, catching him look over my shoulder and drop his gaze on something behind me. The look on his face wasn't a good one, as if something that shouldn't be here was. I grew curious and turned my head around to see what all the sudden silence was about. Really, I saw nothing new. Just people and a guy all dressed in black, standing stiff as ever but I'm sure that's only a security guard. Many people have a temptation to sneak into another movie, some of those people being my friends and I. But nonetheless, everything look fine to me.

I turned back to Louis, noticing he still hasn't look away. When he did look back down at me shortly after, I saw him trying to hide the worry in his eyes. "Uh Paige, how are you planning on getting home?"

I found his question odd. "Well, my friends and I were actually planning to go get  something to eat afterwards and then just walk around Manhattan. Why?"

He sighed, thinking to himself for a moment before bringing a smile up across his face and shaking his head. "Nothing."

He was trying not get me worried but just by doing that, that's exactly what he did.

"Just.. Be careful out there." He looked serious. "Okay?"

I nodded my head, smiling over the confusion I was feeling inside. "Okay."

"Paige!" My friends yelled again. "What's taking you so long?"

I placed their call aside for a moment. "Well, I'll see you later."

"Yeah, Yeah." He nodded. "Uh, take care."

I nodded. "Yeah, you too."

And with that, I turned away and quickly walked back to my friends. The look on their face mirrored mine but only they were confused towards who I was with.

"What was all that about?" Claire laughed.

I looked back at Louis, only he was gone by the time I found the spot he used to be. What was that all about?

"I don't know.."

LOUIS'S POV:

"Yeah, mate.." I continued, looking back to make sure Paige was gone. "Um.. We've got a problem."

"What is it now, Louis?" He asked a bit bothered by the call.

"They're here." I looked away, trying to make my call as less obvious as possible. "And so is Paige."

There was a long pause before he answered again. "Where are you?"

"AMC Loews Lincoln Square 13." I quickly responded.

"I'm on my way."

***

PAIGE'S POV:

"Ugh, where is he!" Allison urged, grunting as she looked down at her phone. She was tired of dialing her brothers number and immediately having it sent to voicemail.

The movie was over now, almost half the way into it, Tyler was acting very strange, his eyes never leaving the screen of his phone. He's never like that, Tyler loves movies, all of them. And he'll pay close attention to all the little details until the very end. So when he excused himself near the end of the film to use the restroom, we all started questioning his ways.

"Maybe he just ate something that upset his stomach?" Ariana took a guess.

Allison looked back at her, "No, the guy can drink a full gallon of expired milk and still be fine like nothing ever happened."

"Well are you sure he's not in another bathroom?" Claire asked.

"He's lazy. The other bathroom is all the way in the second floor. Why would he go to another one if there's one right on front of our theater?"

We all stood and pondered. Multiple guys were exiting the bathroom so we knew it wasn't broken.

This is all really weird. First it was Louis,  now Tyler. Something is definitely going on. But what?

"Well, are you sure he's even in the bathroom?" I asked, setting a lightbulb in my friends head.

We all looked at each other before Claire spoke up. "We can't just walk in there? That's the guys restroom."

"It's not like we're going to do anything bad?" I explained.

"Can't we just ask a guy to go check for us?" Ariana questioned.

"No, that'll just take too long. Ladies, we're in New York, people won't just do favors like that." Allison paused. "I'm really worried, Tyler just got back from jail. If he does something bad.. Anything to break his probation, he'll be sent to boot camp and forced to join the army by my parents. I can't let my brother get sent away."

We all felt the pain and scare in her tone. Even if Tyler is Allison's older brother, she acts more of like an older sibling towards him. It's always been that way, always. I couldn't stand seeing her this worried.

"I'll check." I breathed out.

"Paige, you're crazy." Claire furrowed her eyebrows.

"Well I don't see anybody else trying to do something. I'll be quick." I reassured. My friends made way for me to pass. Honestly, I didn't see the big deal in this, it's not like I'm going in there for no reason.

Some guys passed by me on their way out of the restroom, both giving me a wondering look. I ignored them and finished walking out of the long hallway into the stalls of the guys bathroom. My eyes looked beneath each stall to see if I see his familiar black combat boots. But there was no sign.

"Tyler!" I called out. "Tyler, it's Paige. Are you in here?"

No answer, only mystified faces of guys around the area. I let out an angry grunt, pushing some stall doors open but to see nothing but a toilet in the center. He wasn't here.

I turned back around, basically sprinting back out of the bathroom to step in front of my friends who were waiting for me on the other side. Worried looks plastered on their faces. I hurt me to have to say what I knew they didn't want to hear, especially Allison.

"No." I shook I head.

Allison immediately started freaking out, walking around the girls while biting down on her nails. "Where could he be?" She spoke nervously.

"I'm sure he couldn't be far.." Ariana continued.

This was crazy. How are we possibly going to find one guy in New York city, without help from the cops, by tonight. I'm sure Allison's parents would get worried once they see Allison is home and Tyler isn't there with her. It'll just add more trouble than what we already have in our plate. I started thinking, maybe a clue of one of his previous conversations would give off a location he was probably in a hurry to get to. But nothing, my mind got blank. And then it came to me..

"Wait!" I exclaimed, "Allison, wasn't your brother there when Claire told us about that phone tracking app?"

"I don't know?" She shrugged her shoulders.

"Here, give me your phone." I reached a hand out to grab it, the girls stood with curious stares. "I remember we put it on his too, something about trying to keep an eye on him when you thought he was gambling one time."

"Oh yeah, I remember that." She walked closer to me, stepping besides me to look down at the screen.

"What's his number?" I asked.

I typed in the digits she gave me, instantly hitting the find button.

"How do we even know if he has his phone with him?" Claire asked.

"Well, he was on his phone the whole movie, in sure something was going on in which he'll need it." Ariana explained to Claire.

Within a few moments after their silence, we got a signal.

"Oh my God!" Allison cheered. "Paige, thank you so much!"

"That thing actually found him!" Claire exclaimed.

"Yep. But don't thank me yet." I continued. "What do you say we find him first?"

She nodded, quickly urging the girls to follow her as she took her phone and we started following it outside the theater. Night has already driven in, a cold one too. I didn't get a chance to look at the time but I'd say it was pretty close to midnight. The streets were still very crazy busy, it seemed impossible to find him now. Hopefully, that app is as good as they say it is.

"So where does it say he is?" Ariana asked hugging her jacket closer to her torso.

Allison studied her screen for a while before finally answering. "It says here.. Down the street right behind the movie theater?"

"What?" We all exclaimed in confusion. I took a step forward and took the phone off her hands. She was right,  the red dot indicated right where we are but just a few blocks ahead of us behind the theater.

I leaned my head around the corner, noticing the street behind it was the end of the city and all its lights. All that was there was darkness. Just by looking at it gave me chills.

"What are we going to do?" Claire asked, looking at all of us for an answer.

"Well we're going to go get him, right?" Allison's look was bewildered.

"Of course, only--"

I was suddenly interrupted by the quick beeping sounds coming from Allison's phone. I looked down, noticing the red dot was moving further down into the street, almost as if it was running.

"What's wrong?" Allison asked.

I shot back up to look at her. "I-I think your brother is in danger."

Allison's face went to immediate shock. She couldn't believe what was happening and I'm sure we all couldn't but right now is now time to just stand here. Tyler is in trouble and it has to be on our own. If cops find out what Tyler was up to, he'll be sent away. Who knows what he could be running away from right now.. Certainly not some dogs.

"Now what?" Claire sighed.

Honestly, I don't know what to do. I've never been in a situation like this where it depends on saving a life. I'm not the brave type of person, I'm just as terrified as the rest of these girls are.

"Look, we have to split up." I continued. "Two of us can go get Tyler and the other two can go and get help."

"Help for what?" Ariana asked.

"For whoever is chasing Tyler." I said.

"I'm coming with you." Allison stepped in to look at me. "We can go find Tyler."

I nodded my head, quickly turning towards Claire and Ariana.

"We're already on our way." Claire nodded while grasping Ariana's wrist and pulling her away.

"Be safe." Ariana called back.

We were now alone. Allison didn't waste another second in nodding her head and immediately racing down the dark alley. I followed behind, taking in my surroundings. Dogs were barking in the background as we got deeper in the what was becoming an alley. Everything,  the buildings, the cars, the streets, even the single light post in the middle of the street brought back memories. More like nightmares from the night I had to walk through one of these areas from Charlie's. Nightmares of the day I first met Ezra, when I first saw Zayn lash out to save me...

And then I realized, this was the exact same place..

"Allison!" I called out. "Allison stop!"

Something isn't right here. I can't put the pieces together but the adrenaline I'm feeling isn't good.

My pace got faster, legs beginning to burn as I did my best to reach closer to her. She was running way too fast. I understand her brother's in trouble and she wants to help.. But for some reason, I feel like that single we were getting wasn't  Tyler.

"Allison!" I screamed.

She turned a corner right that moment. By the time I did the same thing my heart couldn't relax, beating as fast as possible. It was a dead end. A huge, brick wall to be exact. All the way back to what I'd say would be around 7 feet. Even one of those big trash cans were sat aside and I knew right there something was definitely up.

"Allison!" I exclaimed, trying to catch my breath at the same time. "Why didn't you stop? I called your name a hundred times?"

Allison kept looking down at her phone, her breaths coming out in panting noises as she just shook her head. "I-I don't get it?"

"What?" I asked, cupping the right side of my waist as I felt a harsh pain start to sting. I was definitely not ready for this run.

"He was just here? How can he just disappear like that?" She asked.

A loud noise of boxes falling, glass breaking, and a cat screaming from it in fear sounded the next second. One after the other. I was definitely not liking this.

"Allison, I think we should get out of here.." I started tugging on her long jacket sleeve but she would only object.

"No, he's here. I know it." She started tapping the screen of her phone urgently.

"Allison, seriously,  I think this is a trap." I begged.

The sounds got louder. By the time I noticed, five shadows stepped from the dark and had both Allison and I surrounded between the brick wall.

I turned around, gasping as I clutched Allison's arm tighter. This is happening again.

"Hello, beautiful." A voice very familiar sounded.

I still couldn't make out their faces for the shadow from the wall covered his face.

"Looking for something?" He chuckled.

Out of the shadows, the next second, Tyler was pushed to the ground. He was tied up, ducts tape covering his mouth. The terrified scream Allison gave off only made things worse.  She could've ran up to him but I held her back. Who knows what they could've done to her. Do to us.

"Shut that bitch up!" One of the five guys stepped out, pointing a gun to Tyler's head as he sat crunched up on the floor. Allison cupped a hand over her mouth to prevent her from screaming, her hand gripping mine with all her force.

"Or I'll shoot this motherfucker right through his skull." The guy smiled stepping back into the light of the moon sky, just enough for me to make out his face.

Ezra.
