Chapter 22.
"I can't believe we did this!" I chuckled as I put in the large tray of uncooked dough with toppings inside the heated oven.
Once the guys left, Vanessa convinced me to make pizza. At first I thought it was a stupid idea considering the fact that this is Zayn's house and not hers and there wouldn't be enough time to make it afterwards. But I was wrong, we had more than enough time to make the pizza with some ingredients left in Zayn's fridge and still have enough time to hear it up.
I still didn't have any idea where they went or who needed to meet then so urgently but one thing's for sure, Zayn lied about not taking to long.
All of those thoughts were soon forgotten as I found spending time with Vanessa was better than I expected. She's been telling me about all these times Harry and her would go out and it'll always turn into a hazard and about the times she was younger and Zayn would do these stupid things.
She's a really nice person, and to think I wouldn't like her so much. I'm glad the guys left, Vanessa and I had a blast.
"Told you," She smiled, "Whenever they say they're going to go somewhere, just know they'll take about the hours or so."
"Yeah but," I paused to close the oven's door, "Doesn't that worry you? I mean, Harry's your boyfriend? Aren't you curious of what he might be doing?"
I thought my question was totally out of the box and defiantly not my business but I couldn't help it. How could she be so calm when they've been gone for so long and haven't even called or texted?
"Well, at first I was but then I noticed they really don't do anything I'd be interested in or any other girl." She chuckled.
"What do they do?" I asked a bit curious.
Vanessa stayed quiet, thinking for the right words to say. "Just guy stuff." She finally spoke.
I wasn't fully understanding her answer towards my question but decided to just leave it alone and move onto a different subject.
"So so you think Zayn would get mad we did this?" I asked.
My feet walked up to the countertop where I started to clean up the mess of dough around it.
"Harry wouldn't, but Zayn might." She answered.
"Wait?" I quickly asked. Why would Harry have anything to do with this?
"Harry?"
Vanessa nodded, "Yeah, they're roommates?"
Everything started to make scene again. The way Vanessa was here when we were got here, the way there were cars parked in the driveway, and the way Zayn was all quiet when I asked him questions. But why would he be so worried about admitting that he shares a home with his friend?
"Oh, I didn't know that."
"I know." She smiled, "Zayn doesn't like admitting that to anyone. "
"Why?" I asked.
Vanessa shrugged her shoulders.
It seemed as if Vanessa knew a lot about Zayn, stuff I might not even know and I want to know. But my instincts told me not to bother asking. It was rude to find out stuff like that and now that I think about it, if Zayn has something to tell me he would.
I looked back down and started to put away the stuff with Vanessa. Everything was quiet for a moment and then...
"He really likes you." Vanessa said.
My head jolted back up to look at her making her giggle towards my reaction.
"What?" I asked.
"Zayn! I think he really likes you. I haven't seen him bring a girl home for another reason other than s--." Vanessa quickly shut herself up, "Nothing."
I know how he used to be, it's not like everyone should feel like they have to hide it from me. Does it bother me? I try not to but the more people bring it up, the more it makes me think about it and makes me feel useless.
"But anyways, I haven't seen him act like this in a while." She smiled.
"I'm pretty sure it's not because of me." I chuckled.
"But it is."
I glanced back at the countertop, my fingers suddenly becoming very interesting.
"Paige." Vanessa called moving over to the stool in front of the countertop I was leaning against in.
I looked up just as she sat down.
"It's not bad to make someone happy." She smiled.
"Really?"
"Of course not!" She chuckled, "Why would you think that's bad?"
I shrugged my shoulders, not knowing how else to respond. These are the kinds of subjects I don't feel comfortable talking about with other people. It's nice that she thinks that but really, I never changed anyone. At least not that know of.
"You're funny, Paige." She smiled.
I couldn't help but crack a smile on my lips too.
We stood there quietly laughing for a moment before we heard a loud knock on the door.
Vanessa rolled her eyes, "Ugh, that must be them." She paused to look at me, "Paige, would you mind getting the door for me and see what they want, I'm going to go get the living room ready."
"Sure." I smiled as I started to walk towards the door.
There were a few more knocks against the door as I reached it. Without asking who it was, guiding myself from what Vanessa was saying, I swung the door open and revealed a tall and strong figure.
This was not the guys.
"May I help you?" I asked nervously.
"Actually," He smiled, "May I help you? "
I kept the door close to me incase I needed to shut it in his face and run away to get Vanessa.
"Do you realize where you are, love?" His British accent spoke.
I stayed quiet, not bothering to give out any personal information.
"You're in Zayn Malik's house? Is he in there?" He asked glancing around my body to see if he could spot anything inside.
I only closed the door even more. Who on Earth is he?
"Pardon me, I must be scaring you. Zayn's my friend, I'm Liam." He smiled handing me his hand.
Still not so sure about his gesture, I surely reached out for his hand, "Paige."
"Nice to meet you, Paige." He shook our hands. "Are you alone?"
"No. Zayn went out with some other guys and they should be here soon." I answered, my fear beginning to settle down towards the towering male in front of me.
"Okay, well, I was told to come by around this time to watch a movie or something."
"Right, come in." I smiled opening the door wider.
Liam stepped in and looked around.
"Did Zayn invite you our did Harry?" I asked.
"Actually, it was Vanessa's idea to do all of this." He smiled.
"Liam?"
We flickered our vision to a soft voice coming in from the living room. Vanessa popped her head out before noticing Liam and walking up to him.
"Hey, you." He smiled.
"I thought I heard your voice." She smiled.
"Paige, this is Liam, he's a boxing trainer around where the guys work." She introduced.
I smiled and before I could say another word, the front door behind me slammed open. I jumped at the sudden sound and turned around to see Zayn barge through the entrance.
"Woah!" Liam exclaimed.
At first I didn't notice anything but then I saw the cuts and marks on Zayn's knuckles.
"Zayn what happened?" I asked.
He ignored me and continued walking over to the stairs. My vision darted back over to Louis who came in right behind him.
"Louis, why is Zayn bleeding?"
Looking at him closely, I noticed he wasn't so stable either. He had a bruise under his left eye and his bottom lip was swollen.
Harry walked in along with a blond headed guy and they were also badly bruised. Something definitely happened and it has only one name written all over it.
"What happened?" Liam asked Louis as we led them to the kitchen.
They all took a seat in one of the three stools in front of the countertop while Vanessa shuffled through the cabinets.
"What do you think?" Harry scoffed, tapping the bottom of his nose with the palm of his hand to wipe away the blood.
"We got into a fight." Louis said.
"Yeah, no shit." Liam scoffed.
"With who?" I asked.
They all looked at me, there was a long period of silence before the blond one opened his mouth, "This guy named Ezra."
