Chapter 8: Detective
A smoky and almost burnt aroma filled the environment. Levy Mcgarden sat at a table, her mind going miles a minute.
"Levy." The voice of her best friend woke the bluenette out of her trance.
"Are you okay?" The blonde asked.
"I'm fine Lu, just thinking about a case." Levy smiled.
"You're such a hard worker." Lucy giggled.
"It's just rather difficult, I can't keep my mind off of it," Levy replied.
Lucy has always admired Levy. She has helped her in more ways than one. She's the one who gave her job at Amber Sin, which is a little odd because Levy is a detective.
"Don't work too hard okay?" Lucy said to her best friend.
"I promise." Levy smiled.
Lucy glanced at her wristwatch and excused herself.
"I gotta visit mom. I'll join you back to the precinct." Lucy offered, but Levy denied it.
"I'll stay here for a bit, you go." Levy nodded, assuring Lucy that she could leave.
Once Lucy was out of reach, Levy pulled out her phone and dialed a number.
"I can't believe I'm doing this." She scolded herself.
"It's rather rare for you to call Detective." A soft voice spoke through the phone.
"I... I need your help." Levy started. "It's for a case."
"I see." She paused for a bit before continuing. "I'm rather busy at the moment, can we meet at 3."
"Sure." Levy nodded.
"Great, you know where to find me. See ya, Detective."
------
Juvia stared down below. She's in deep thought, thinking of her next move. Her fingers tapped down the wooded armrest of her chair. She reached over a piece and made her move. However, the man in front of her wasted no time and made his move.
"Checkmate."
"Dammit." Juvia cursed under her breath. "Mr. Yakov, Juvia's not good at this."
The man chuckled and started cleaning the chessboard. "You just need a little more practice little one."
Juvia sighed and lit up a cigarette.
"By the way, what's up with you and Mr. Fullbuster?" Yakov asked. "You work for him right?"
"Huh?"
"I've met him a few times when he's around the club, he seems like a nice guy," Yakov said.
Juvia coughed up smoke, out of shock. Yakov Smirnoff isn't the kind of person to say things like that.
"What you doing?" Juvia looked at the older man, questioning what was happening.
Yakov chuckled. "Oh, little Juvi. You know what I'm talking about."
It took a minute for Juvia to realize what Yakov was talking about and her face started heating up.
"You got it all wrong." Juvia retorted, puffing a cloud of smoke.
"What do you mean?!" Yakov exclaimed. "The sexual tension between the two of you is so thick you can cut it with a knife!!"
Juvia deeply sighed. "It's complicated."
"You're at the rightful age to look for a partner. Although, I wouldn't blame you if you decided not to."
Juvia looked toward the man. Ever since her parent's passing. Yakov has become her guardian. He taught her everything she knew. She owes her life to him.
"It takes two to tango and I'm waiting for him to take my hand," Juvia spoke. "I'll wait for him, no matter how long it takes."
------
Levy took a deep breath before she knocked on the mahogany door.
The door opened and Levy greeted the woman behind the door.
"Madame is waiting for you upstairs." She said.
This is the first time in three years that Levy has stepped inside this building. The woman led her upstairs and opened another mahogany door.
"Madame, Miss Levy is here."
"Brilliant." A soft voice responded.
Levy walked further inside as the woman closed the door. She saw two figures approaching her.
"Detective." The woman greeted the petite blunette.
"Juvia-san." Levy bowed slightly.
"Please take a seat." Juvia gestured over to the couch. "You don't mind Mr. Yakov being here don't you?"
Levy glanced over to the figure beside her. He has blonde hair and a neck tattoo. He smiled at her as he took a seat in front of her.
"Not at all."
Juvia nodded and walked over to her kitchen, leaving Levy with Yakov.
"Care for a cigarette, Detective?" Yakov offered a stick of cigarettes to Levy.
"I'm good." Levy politely denied the offer.
"How did you meet little Juvi?" Yakov asked, an intimidating aura surrounding him. Levy felt like she was being interrogated.
"Mr. Yakov, please don't scare her." Juvia walked in holding a tray of tea and snacks. As she placed it down on the table and served each of them a cup of tea before sitting down on her chair.
Yakov chuckled as he took a sip from his cup. "I'm just curious that's all."
"Don't worry, she's not a rat," Juvia responded, before turning her attention to Levy. "How can be of service to you Detective?"
Levy took a deep breath. "I have been assigned a case and I need your help."
"What kind?"
"I need information, information from a man named, Alphonse Cloutier," Levy added.
"Ali? What do you need him for?" Juvia raised a brow, growing skeptical about the blunette's objective.
"Fabrico Savala was found dead last night and Alphonse is our main suspect due to their rivalry, but I have a gut feeling that something else is responsible for his death. I need to have a talk to him to gather enough information to clear him from any suspicion and maybe find some information on who could be Fabrico's killer."
"Hmm. Interesting." Juvia hummed. "I trust you, Detective, I'll talk to Alli about the Fabrico situation and give you the information you need."
"Thank you." Levy smiled.
"Don't disappoint me, Detective. I placed my trust in you." Juvia chuckled, but her stare at the petite bluenette sent shivers down her spine.
"Of course. Betraying you would be idiotic." Levy nodded.
------
Flashing lights and loud music enveloped the entire club that night. Juvia walked over to the bar and sat next to a man with long brown hair that was tied up in a neat bun.
"Hey, Ali." Juvia greeted the man.
"Juvi." The man chuckled and smiled at the woman.
"I've heard that Fabrico's dead. How are you feeling?" She asked as she ordered a drink.
"Oh, that." Alphonse lowered his head. "Such a shame that he's gone. My tradings are no longer fun without him trying to steal my clients."
Juvia chuckled. "And here I thought, you're the one who killed him."
"Don't be ridiculous, I'm not that petty."
Juvia laughed. "Sorry my bad, but you're not the one who killed him, then who did?"
"Alexander Holland."
Juvia's eyes bulged out. "Didn't expect you to know that."
"What got you so interested?" Alphonse raised a brow.
"Nothing much. Juvia's just bored. Nothing special has been going in her life recently." Juvia took a sip from her drink.
Alphonse looked at her and started laughing. Juvia joined him afterward.
"Nothing special? What about Fullbuster then?" Alphonse wiggled his brows in a teasing manner.
"That's different." Juvia playfully rolled her eyes.
