Lucy's Pov
I sighed in relief the moment my performance finished. I took a robe to cover myself and walked towards my room. I'm not in the mood for another round of drinks with Cana.
I approached my room, but before I got there, I stumbled upon Madame. She's barely wearing any make-up. Her hair is tied up in a messy bun, and she's wearing a blue asymmetrical dress. There's a lit cigarette in her fingers, and she's holding her phone up to her ear.
I made eye contact with her as I passed through. She gave a small nod with an added smile.
I opened the door and collapsed on my bed.
Lucy, you have to remember, this is all for mom.
The Next day
I knocked on the door of her room before opening it and greeting her with a warm smile.
"Hey mom, how are you feeling?"
"A lot better." She smiled, she's noticeably much healthier than before, which I'm glad about.
"Here, I brought these for you." I showed her a box of muffins from her favorite store.
"Thank you, dear." She took a muffin out of the box and started eating it. "Juvia-chan visited me last night."
There are times that Madame visits mom, just to check up on her whenever I can't. She's also the one who's handling the finances for mom's treatments, so she's the one the hospital often talks to.
"Really, what did you two talk about?"
"Nothing too important, we just chatted for a bit, she's really nice, you're lucky to have someone like her as your boss."
"Yeah, she's the best." I couldn't help but smile. My work isn't something to be proud of, but it's the only thing that's helping my mom. My experience could have been worse if I hadn't ended up working for Madame, she might be some sort of criminal, but she's not a bad person, not at all.
I stayed with mom for a couple of hours before leaving, promising to visit her again tonight.
I walked out of her room and in some wicked twist of fate, I bumped into him... Again.
"Lucy!?" He was shocked to see me at the hospital. His shocked face then turned into a grin. "Missed me already."
"In your dreams!" I huffed.
"What are you doing here?" He asked.
"I'm just visiting a relative of mine." I vaguely answered. "What about you?"
"Well, I smelled your scent inside this building and I followed it till I bumped into you." He playfully chuckled.
"Natsu, try to be serious for once." I raised a brow. With all of our bumping into each other, I unconsciously started addressing and talking to him so casually, that I used to just call him Mr. Dragneel.
"I dislocated my ankle." He answered truthfully. "But I'm fine now, see." He giggled and twirled his right foot.
"How did you end up hurting your ankle?" I asked.
His cheeks started turning fifty shades of red and stayed silent.
"Come on, tell me. I won't judge." I reassured him.
"Promise not to laugh." He said and I nodded, though I really can't promise anything.
"I fell on my bed."
I tried my best to hold onto it, but it was of no use. I just burst out laughing.
"You promised you won't laugh!"
"I'm sorry, it's just that, I expected a much more extreme reason from you," I said in between laughs.
I saw him pout like a child and I continuously apologized just to make him feel better.
"Do you have anywhere else to go?" He asked after calming down.
"Not really, I'm going straight back to the nightclub," I replied.
"I'm on my way there as well, I can give you a ride." He offered, but what intrigued me was the reason for his visit.
"That would be nice." I smiled and we started walking to his car.
No one's Pov
Natsu started driving, there was a comfortable silence between the two.
"Why are you going to the nightclub? You do know that it doesn't open when the sun is still out." Lucy made the question as casual as possible.
"That's classified information." Natsu chuckled, his eyes focused on the road. "No need to be jealous, besides if I try anything with her Gray would kill me."
"Why would I be jealous?!" Lucy retorted his claim.
"Because you are charmed by my stunning good looks." Natsu grinned from ear to ear.
"Good looks? Where? I can't see it?" Lucy giggled, teasing the salmon-haired man.
Natsu simply laughed at her antics and Lucy joined him soon after.
"About Madame and her boss, what exactly are they?" Lucy asked. Though she has an idea, it's not quite clear.
"Those two are complicated, you'll hurt your brain thinking about it." Natsu chuckled.
"The girls at the nightclub think they're dating. Cana says they're just hooking up, I tried asking Ms. Alina about it but she said there's nothing going on between the two of them." Lucy voiced out.
"Which one do you believe?" Natsu asked.
"Ms. Alina knows Madame the best, but Cana has the ability to read anyone like an open book, you can't hide anything from her," Lucy replied. "I don't know which one is right."
"How come you're so concerned about this?" Natsu asked the blonde.
Lucy lowered her head. "Madame isn't just my employer, she isn't just my boss. I owe her a lot. I'm concerned because sometimes behind the soft smiles she gives us, I can see the sadness in her eyes."
"She's lucky to have someone like you around then." Natsu patted her head, comforting her.
------
Make me your Aphrodite
Make me your one and only
But don't make me your enemy
your enemy, your enemy
The song is played through the speakers with a slowed and reverb effect just to make the performance much sultrier than it already is.
Lucy twirled and danced around the pole, her eyes focused on the crowd. Chills ran up her spine. She's been working at Amber Sin for a year now, and yet she still never got used to the predatory-like stares she is given with her every move. It still disturbs her.
One Year Ago
"Lucy, darling, give it a little flair. You have to sell sex, you gotta make those bastards horny as hell." The blue-haired maiden advised her new recruit.
Lucy meekly nodded and started her routine again as the blue-haired maiden observed.
"That's a lot better, you'll be part of the backup dancers for now," Juvia said, and the blonde nodded. "I advise you to take notes whenever the others are performing, it'll help. Your payment depends on your performance and how the crowd likes it, I may be the one paying your mother's hospital bills, giving you shelter and food, but you have to work hard or I'll find no use for you here and when that happens our contract will be terminated."
"I understand." Lucy bowed at her superior. "I'll work my hardest."
Juvia smiled and gave the blonde a small pat on the head. "Don't work too hard, it's not good for you." She giggled to liven up the mood.
Lucy's contract is what binds her to Amber Sin and to Juvia. That contract is the reason why she's still alive, why her mother is still alive.
"Go ahead and take a rest, you had a long day," Juvia told the blonde.
Lucy nodded and thanked her boss before leaving the stage.
After Lucy's performance, she changed outfits and went straight to Cana to get a drink.
"We have new arrivals, they're all really good." Cana giggled, holding an opened, half-empty bottle of one of the new brands of alcohol the nightclub serves.
"Maybe next time, I'll take my usual," Lucy said.
"Suit yourself." Cana shrugged and prepared her for the drink.
The Next Day
Gray groaned as he carried the raven-haired woman's shopping bags.
"I think you bought enough." He complained.
"I still haven't found the one I'm looking for." The woman giggled as she dragged him towards another store.
"Seriously!" Gray shouted.
The said woman is Ultear Milkovich. She's the daughter of Gray and Lyon's teacher Ur. They might not be related by blood, but the two share a sibling-like relationship.
Gray sighed and walked towards one of the couches at the store, then he bumped into someone.
"I'm sorry." He immediately apologizes as he picks up the scattered bags on the ground.
"It's fine." Came in a very familiar voice to the raven-haired man.
"Ju-Juvia."
"Hmm..." The blue-haired woman looked up, making eye contact with the raven-haired man.
"Hey, Boss." She smiled and got up.
"Again, I'm sorry." Gray apologized once more.
"I told you, Juvia's fine." She giggled.
Gray took his time to observe her from head to toe.
She's wearing a navy blue cut-off dress over some black stockings and a pair of black pumps. Her blue curls cascaded all the way down to her hips.
"Hey, Boss. It's rude to stare." She covered herself up with her arms and playfully teased the man.
"It's not like that." Gray shook his head, his cheeks glowing redder by the minute. "It's just that, you look beautiful... as always."
Juvia smiled and then giggled at his reaction.
Ultear saw and heard the entire thing unfold before her. She smiled as she watched the two.
"I have no idea how she makes him act like this."
"I need you to hire me an assassin," Gray ordered his subordinate Loke to leave.
"What kind?" Loke asked.
"A good one."
"I think I know a person." Loke snickered, "But you have to come with me."
"Why?" Gray raised a brow.
"She prefers to meet the person she'll be working for in person." Loke briefly answered.
"What is this place?" Gray asked as the two of them exited the car and exited the car.
"Amber Sin." Loke replied, leading the way towards the entrance. "It just re-opened a year ago."
The double doors open and the smell of sweat, booze, and smoke is scattered all over the place.
Gray followed Loke as they approached the table closest to the stage.
"Hey, Juvia," Loke called the woman sitting alone on the couch.
The woman perked up at the sight of the orange-haired man. She's wearing a long black sequined dress with a slit at the side showing her long legs and a pair of black pumps, her hair tied in a neat bun.
"Loke, my favorite customer!" She chuckled. "Who's the hot guy with you?"
Loke smiled, motioning at the raven-haired man standing next to him."This is my boss, Gray Fullbuster." Loke then shifted his attention towards Gray. "This is Juvia Lockser, she owns the place."
"Pleasure to make your acquaintance." The woman nodded with a smile.
"We're here for business actually," Loke stated.
"Oh." Her perky demeanor suddenly changed. "If that's the case, have a seat." She said, motioning to the empty space beside her.
The two men nodded and did as they were told.
"So, what business are we talking about here?" She asked, lighting up a cigarette.
"An assassination request," Gray replied as Loke handed her a folder in which she started rummaging through the contents.
Juvia thoroughly reads through the contents of the folder as she listens to Gray explain the assignment and the subject of the payment.
She puffed smoke from her cigarette and closed the folder, placing it on top of the table.
"You got yourself a deal, Mr. Fullbuster."
