Chapter 12: One more drink
Lucy was out with her fellow dancers at the mall shopping for clothes and maybe lingerie.
The blonde was rummaging through the racks of clothing, finding something she likes when suddenly she heard her name being called.
Lucy looked up and saw a girl with long blue hair tied up in twin tails. She looks familiar but Lucy can't seem to remember her name.
"You're Lucy-san right?" The girl smiled at her in glee.
"Uhhh... do I know you??" Lucy nervously chuckled.
"Oh, Sorry." The girl backed a few steps away. "I'm Wendy, Natsu's cousin."
"Ohh." Lucy gasped. "You're that girl at the grocery store."
"I'm the one who loves Takis." Wendy giggled. "You're one of Natsu-san's friends right?"
"Sure, you could say that." Lucy chuckled.
Wendy smiled and chatted with the blonde for a bit. She greatly enjoyed her company.
"So you're in medical school," Lucy said.
"Yup, I'm in my 2nd year." Wendy nodded. "It's really difficult, would not recommend it unless you really really like it." She chuckled.
Lucy giggled in response. "I never finished college."
"Really?" Wendy gave the blonde a sympathetic look.
Lucy nodded. "My mom got sick and it's just the two of us so I ended up dropping out and started working, then a friend of mine recommended Amber Sin and honestly it's the best decision I've ever made." She smiled.
"Juvia-chan's really kind and sweet." Wendy giggled.
"She really is." Lucy giggled. "I'm gonna miss her."
"Did she leave or something?." Wendy arched a brow.
"Madame left, she said it's some family business and she might be gone in a couple of months, she actually gave us a little bonus before she left and that's why the girls and I are here."
"I see." Wendy lowered her head. "Juvia-chan never talked about her family that much, I feel like it's a very sensitive topic for her, I believe that's where all her sadness dwells."
"So you noticed it too."
Wendy nodded. "I hope she gets better after her trip."
"Me too." Lucy nodded. "After everything she has done, she deserves happiness."
"It's a common theme about us. There are certain instances where happiness is the one thing we simply can't have." Wendy lowered her head.
"That can't be true."
"Unfortunately it is." Wendy smiled bitterly. "Happiness is short-lived, love isn't something you can hold onto yourself forever, it will inevitably get taken away."
"It must be though." Lucy nodded. "But even if you have a limited amount of time with someone you care about, I guess the least you can do is make the most out of it. Sure, the world isn't all sunshine and rainbows but that doesn't mean you have to be miserable."
Wendy smiled and laughed wholeheartedly. "You're right, Lucy-san. Thank you."
"This is nice but unfortunately, I have to go." Wendy stepped aside, preparing for her descent. "I had fun, I hope I get to see you again Lucy-san."
Lucy smiled and waved her goodbye. "Likewise."
------
"God it's weird sitting here when she's not around." Natsu chuckled.
"Tell me about it!" Loke nodded and popped a can of beer.
"Call yourselves lucky that Alina even allowed us to sit here," Jellal added.
"I'm pretty sure, Juvia gave Alina a list of the people that can sit here," Loke interjected.
"And you're so confident that you're on that list." Gajeel chuckled, arching a brow.
"My name might be the first on that list." Loke laughed with pride.
Gajeel rolled his eyes. "Be honest, you know who's really the first on the list."
"I'm her number 1 customer, who could possibly..." Loke rambled on until a realization struck him. "Oh... right, the boss."
"Speaking of the bastard, how is he?" Natsu asked.
"He's handling this a lot better than I expected," Loke replied.
"Maybe time away from her will finally be his wake-up call, he can't let the woman wait forever," Jellal said.
"Speaking of woman, Natsu, you've awfully chummy with a specific blondie." Loke wiggled his brows teasingly.
"I don't know what you're talking about?" Natsu played innocently, but he was not fooling anyone.
"Natsu, we all know you have a thing for the bunny girl." Gajeel chuckled.
"Lucy and I are just friends." Natsu sighed. "Also where did the Bunny girl nickname come from?"
"It was spring and she wore a bunny girl outfit, that's when I first saw her, and I've been calling her Bunny girl ever since." Gajeel chuckled.
"It's outstanding how you can come up with the stupidest and weirdest nicknames ever." Jellal chuckled.
"That's just the way I work Jelly boy."
"We're getting sidetracked here!!" Loke exclaimed. "There's gotta be something else at play here. Lucy isn't known to sit around with other men in her free time. What's the deal, how come you two are friends." Loke added air quotes to emphasize the word.
"It's simple, I don't treat her like some sort of escort that I would have sex with, it's more of a companionship than anything else," Natsu replied.
"So it's a ruse." Loke strokes his chin.
"NO, IT ISN'T!!" Natsu shouted. "Listen, I like her, she's hot there's no denying that but she's a lot more than that. I want to see and know more about the person behind her performances."
Gajeel suddenly scoffed. "Damn, your whipped."
"Says the guy who couldn't get a date out of that detective." Natsu retorted.
"That situation is ten times more complicated than yours." Gajeel rolled his eyes.
------
Lucy drank another shot of vodka deciding that this would be her last.
"Going already?" A familiar voice rang through her ears as she was about to leave.
She turned around and faced the salmon-haired mafioso.
"Yeah, it's been a long night for me, I'm gonna hit the sack."
Natsu rolled his eyes and ordered a couple of drinks. "You always say that."
"Why don't you sit here with me and we can have a couple more drinks, my treat."
Lucy scoffed. "Please, I know this tactic."
"Seriously." Natsu looked at her with a deadpan expression. "At this point, do you really think, I would pull something like that."
Lucy sighed. "You're annoying, but you're also right." She smiled and walked back to the bar and sat next to him.
"So, what are we drinking?"
------
The next morning, Lucy woke up with a splitting headache. Which isn't at all surprising because she did drink a lot. She stirred in her sleep and rolled over to her side but noticed a presence beside her. She slowly opened her eyes and to her surprise, she saw a familiar face.
"AAAAAAHHHHHH!!!" She screamed which woke up the figure beside her.
He groaned, rubbed his eyes, and smiled at her. "Good morning Lucy."
"WHAT THE FUCK ARE YOU DOING IN MY ROOM!!??"
